Mario B;868517 wrote: The lady [Hilary] was loud and clear when she was in London, "no break-up of Somalia ". Somalia is big enough for all the clans. Those peddling " clan international borders " and a "President " in every tuulo are just plain mad!! Hillary Clinton should worry more about whether obama selects here again as the foreign secretary of state or not. The united states policy on Somalia and Somaliland hasn't changed a bit supporting the dual track approach for Somalia and Somaliland the support of clan federalism in Somalia. The Fight against islamist in Somalia, continue to support Somaliland democratization process and let Somaliland and Somalia clarify their own future relations. The West including the united states is very neutral on the case of Somaliland and Somalia. The united states well the bush administration clearly said that they will support Somaliland recognition if its done through the African union the Bush administration went even as far as saying that they should swift the power to Somaliland. Its not like kurdistan that is being hold hostage by a NATO member Turkey and a US ally in the region. Somaliland has the best case in Africa legally and it will take a political solution in the long term Neighboring IGAD countries are not clearly opposed to Somaliland statehood. But they only fear for their own territorial integrity Mobassa secession in Kenya and the O'gaden secession in Ethiopia. Egypt has a new regime because of this new govt that took over Egypt they finally started to formulate a real foreign policy for the first time since Anwar al sadat. The Mubarak Govt allowed sudan to split they lost pretty much all their influance in Africa that the gamaal abdulnasir regime built in the 50s 60s to comete with the Israeli influance. The First visit of the Egyptian foreign minister was not to Washington or brussels but it was to sudan khartoum. Egypt wants its influance back in the region and in Africa and they want to focus on that.Former African union chairman Alpha Kunare was very pro Somaliland the case of Somaliland was raised at the african union a few times the Egyptians strongly opposed any discussion of Somaliland and they suqashed the efforts of alpha kunare to give SL a associate member status in the AU. He suggested that Somaliland should start talks with the TFG but at that time Somalia was a total mess there were Ethiopians icu muqawamo shabaab .But talks are now starting to take place so lets see how that goes i predict a very peaceful future of Somaliland and Somalia.

Somalia needs Samater because of his experience and intellectual , it will be very disappointment if his not member of the new admin. Strongly urge Pro Samater to join the new admin Very unlikely Samatar is not going to work under this Govt i can tell you that right now.

Somali militants claim responsibility for hotel blasts Reuters – NAIROBI (Reuters) - Somalia's al Shabaab rebels carried out a bomb attack on Wednesday that targeted a Mogadishu hotel where the president and Kenya's visiting foreign minister were holding a news conference, the group said. "(Al Shabaab) successfully targets a hotel near the airport in Mogadishu where a high profile meeting was being held," the al Qaeda-linked insurgent group said on its official Twitter handle. Somalia's new President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Kenyan Foreign Minister Sam Ongeri were not hurt in the attack. (Reporting by Richard Lough)

Ethiopia’s ruling party prepares to elect new chairman (ADDIS ABABA) - Ethiopia’s ruling coalition, the Ethiopia Peoples Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) is expected to hold a meeting on 16 September to elect the party’s new chairperson who also will most likely be the successor of the late prime minister, Meles Zenawi. Following the death of Zenawi on 20 August, the deputy prime minister and foreign affairs Minister, Hailemariam Desalegn has been the acting prime minister of Ethiopia. Desalegn was supposed to be officially sworn in on Thursday however the ruling party delayed the appointment raising concerns from opposition groups and uncertainty from the public on the viability of the post-Zenawi new leadership. Ethiopian Democratic Party (EDP), one of the country’s biggest opposition groups on Wednesday said the fact that the country still remains to be led by an acting prime minister indicates the country is not in a full functional state and could create a power vacuum. Speaking to Sudan Tribune some opposition groups have speculated that the delay on the appointment of country’s new leader might be due to internal conflict among the heavy weights within the EPRDF leadership. The Ethiopian government has dismissed concerns from the public that the death of the late premier could create power vacuum in the horn of Africa’s nation. According to government officials, the newly elected chairman of the ruling EPRDF party will most likely take on the government until next elections in 2015. “We are expecting the council meeting to be on the 16th,” Seikoture Getachew, the foreign relations head at the Ethiopian Peoples’ Revolutionary Democratic Front’s secretariat, told Bloomberg. “There will be the assignment of chairperson and deputy chairperson.” He added. Ethiopia, on 2 September, held a state funeral of the country’s long-time leader. Tens of thousands of people including dozens of African leaders and hundreds of foreign dignitaries’ attended the funeral. All leaders of Ethiopia neighbour’s attended the funeral ceremony with the exception of Eritrea. However the Red Sea nation which remains at loggerheads with Ethiopia over the unresolved border dispute has gave its respects over Zenawi’s death via Binyam Berhe, Eritrea’s envoy to the Africa Union. Berhe signed at the condolences book and has also shook the hand of Azeb Mesfin, the wife of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi. Ethiopia and Eritrea fought a 1998-2000 border war over their disputed boundary that killed an estimated 70,000 people.

NGONGE;868396 wrote: ^^ A&T is being lazy and playing the "waxa la yedhi" card. But, I wouldn't totally dismiss the fluke he made here. There are lots of questions to be asked about the future relations between the two sides. There are questions to be asked about the UK's "Consulate" in SL and the fact that it will report to Matt Baugh instead of the guy in Ethiopia, etc, etc, etc... Is Siilaanyo hedging his bets here or does he believe some of this stuff does not matter? Like I say, if "unionists" such as A&T had it in them, they could come up with loads of uncomfortable questions for SL and its future, fortunately, they're all great experts when it comes to "waxa la yedhi" only. The Hargeysa consulate will be linked to the Embassy in Addis ababa rather than Matt baugh in Nairobi. The Somaliland govt knows that you will hear more about this in the coming weeks.

The presidential position is not symbolic i think the Prime Minister is the head of the Government running the governments daily affairs while the president is the head of state with executive power appointing ambassadors commander in chief of the Armed forces -
