  1. No one called him a messiah he is just one of the many Somaliland politicians from the Garaad clan. He started as a Puntland candidate for the presidency of that region he lost.He was offered the ministry of fishery in the faroole administration he said naa , nothing for me. He than went to nairobi where they were cooking a clan conference for the garaad clan. Hogaanka badbaadinta ssc he was chosen as the leader of that entity by his clan elders. He held that position for 2 years and eventually ended up fighting for the unity of Somaliland. Its a short cycle most garaad clan politician go through. For example Abdisamad cali shire he started off as a Somaliland police chief in 1994 ended up as the vice president of Puntland i will not be surprised if his end goal will be Somaliland. The same way with Keyse abdi Yusuf he started as a Somaliland MP in 1991 became the governor for Puntland in widhwidh in 2006 than joined the ssc rebels in 2010 than made a u turn and became the Somaliland state Minister for eastern affairs. See the most ironic thing is they all begin with Somaliland and end up with Somaliland at the end. Puntland is short stop for most of them. Or Xaabsade started off as the speaker for Somalilands parliament in 1993 went to Puntland and became the interior Minister of Puntland. Switched sides and became the Somalilands information minister.
  2. The newly appointed Somali foreign minister Fowziya Yusuf speaks during the appointment of Somalia's cabinet at the presidential palace in Mogadishu November 4, 2012. REUTERS/Omar Faruk Inter Press Service By Abdurrahman Warsameh Nov 20 2012 (IPS) - As little-known politician Fauzia Yusuf Haji Adan was sworn in as Somalia’s first female foreign minister and deputy prime minister on Monday Nov. 19, the stateswoman who hails from the unrecognised, self-proclaimed republic of Somaliland is tipped to become the country’s “Iron Lady”. This is according to Adan´s political ally Mohamed Daahir Omar, who used to work closely with her in local Somaliland politics, in which he is currently active. “We know Fauzia as a person with strong determination and as an approachable individual who likes to form consensus. But when she has to make a decision, she just goes for it and works to convince others of her way. She was mostly successful, and for that she can be considered Somalia’s Iron Lady,” Omar told IPS from Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland, referring to Adan’s strong will. Adan, who returned from her first state visit to neighbouring Djibouti on Nov. 18 and missed the official swearing-in ceremony of the cabinet on Nov. 15, takes on the mantle of leadership in a country with a number of tough foreign policy challenges. While details of Adan and her background are sketchy, and she has been reluctant to grant interviews to the press, Omar said that because of her skill as a consensus-builder, the new foreign minister could play a role in bridging the divide between this Horn of Africa nation and Somaliland. One of her first tasks will be to advance tentative and delicate talks between the Somali government and politicians in the northern state. Somaliland unilaterally declared independence from the rest of Somalia following the collapse of the country’s government in 1991. “The talks between Somalia and Somaliland will be an acid test for Adan because as a northerner she will have to show her people that she does not want to force them into a union (with Somalia) that they don’t want. “But at the same time as a key minister in the federal government she has to represent the views of the government – the sanctity of national unity and sovereignty,” Garaad Jama, an analyst from the Centre for Peace and Democracy, a think tank in Somalia, told IPS. Adan, who is only one of two women in the 10-member cabinet appointed by Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon, will also have to deal with the growing friction between Kenya and Somalia over the formation of local administration areas in southern Somalia. The Kenyan military captured the Al-Shabaab-controlled southern Somali port city of Kismayo in late September. The port was one of the key strongholds of the Al-Qaeda-linked Islamist radical group. But Kenya has reportedly been pushing for the region in southern Somalia known as Azania or Jubaland – where Kismayo is the main city – to be given the status of an autonomous state, to serve as a buffer zone between Kenya and the chaos in Somalia. The Somali government has repeatedly voiced its opposition to the creation of such a state, which it fears would become a Kenyan satellite rather than a local administration that would fall under its control. Although Kenya vehemently denied the charges, its soldiers in control of Kismayo’s airport prevented a Somali government delegation from entering the city on Nov. 7, after a local militia leader objected to their arrival. “The signs are already not good, with deteriorating relations between Kenya and the new Somali government and other tough and pressing challenges,” Maryan Muumin, a women’s rights activist from the Somalia National Women’s Organisation (SNWO) in Mogadishu, told IPS. “It seems that the daunting task for the new foreign minister is clear cut and it’s for Adan to deal with the challenges facing her, not only as Somalia’s foreign minister, but as the first woman to hold that post,” she said. Adan will also have to deal with Al-Shabaab, which still poses a threat to the government in many parts of southern and central Somalia. Al-Shabaab, which is opposed to women taking up roles outside the home and has imposed strict Sharia law in parts of the country that it controls, has threatened to target Somalia’s United Nations-backed government leaders. The militant group led a failed attempt to assassinate the country’s new President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Sep. 12, his second day in office. “Although Al-Shabaab is now on the back foot, the group is the greatest threat to any government in Somalia,” Jama said “How this new government deals with the militant group, which has assassinated several ministers and other top government officials, will be a major test for the ministers, including the first female foreign minister.” Adan described her appointment as a precedent that will open doors for Somali women. “This is a historic day not only for Somali women but for all Somalia,” Adan said after the announcement of her appointment on Nov. 4. Haliam Elmi from SNWO told IPS that Adan’s appointment was “a gift not only for Somali women but also for Africa and the world at large because women’s situations are similar in many parts of the world.” She said she hoped that it would result in the acceptance of women’s participation in politics in this conservative Muslim country. “This is a step in the right direction and we hope that society will finally accept women’s ascent on the political ladder,” she told IPS. But Adan will have a tough road ahead of her. Not everyone has welcomed her appointment. Somalia’s Islamic clergy, for example, said that Adan’s appointment was against the teachings of Islam. “In Muslim society women are given the highest role a human being can take, which is rearing children and being head of a Muslim home. What we hear from the government is in contradiction to our way of life as a Muslim society, and nothing but calamity will come from giving such political leadership roles to Fauzia, not only for her, but for her family and society in general,” said Sheikh Ali Mohamoud, a Muslim cleric in Mogadishu. http://www.trust.org/trustlaw/news/tough-challenges-for-somalias-iron-lady

  7. Thats not important professor cali khalif galaydh is a politician who knows what he wants. And he makes no mistake when he is talking to his opponents the message he was sending was clearly to the likes of Kalshaalenews and Taleex.net. Not to Somaliland if the professor wanted to wage war against Somaliland he would have done that years ago. I sure know one thing and that is the professor will not be a member of parliament for a long period.

  10. Published Tuesday, Nov. 20 2012, 10:16 AM EST The rebel takeover of the key Congolese city of Goma has sparked fears for the future of one of Africa’s biggest and most war-torn countries. In the short term, the victory by the M23 rebels could trigger a wave of human rights abuses in the city of a million people, where thousands of refugees are fleeing. There are widespread worries that the rebels could settle scores with reprisal attacks against their opponents in Goma. MORE RELATED TO THIS STORY Congolese rebels penetrate Goma, take airport AFRICA Anxious Congolese flee rebel advance VMEVIDEO Video: Congolese army fires at rebel bases In the longer term, the rebel victory could destabilize and weaken the fragile government of the Democratic Republic of Congo, opening the door for a foreign carve-up of eastern Congo, a mineral-rich region that has attracted rebels and invaders for many years. The rebels, unofficially headed by indicted war-crimes fugitive Bosco Ntaganda, walked into Goma almost unopposed today after the city was abandoned by Congo’s notoriously underpaid and unreliable army. United Nations peacekeepers, which had deployed attack helicopters to strafe the rebels with cannons and rockets on Sunday in a futile attempt to slow their advance, appeared to give up and allow the rebels to take the city today. It’s the first time since 2003 that rebels have controlled the city. Congolese soldiers were reported to be retreating southward after looting homes in Goma as they left. The rebels have threatened to advance further in eastern Congo, targeting the other major city, Bukavu, to the south. It’s unclear if this threat is only rhetorical, but it raises concerns about the entire eastern region of the country. It also has the potential to ignite a broader war between Congo and neighboring Rwanda, which is reported to be a key source of support for the rebels. The rebel takeover will mean a huge boost in regional power for Rwanda, which is believed to be providing financial and logistical help to the rebels, including sophisticated weapons such as night-vision equipment and heavy mortars. The fall of Goma is a serious blow to the credibility of the UN peacekeeping force in Congo, and it could also jeopardize Congo’s national government in Kinshasa. Protests have already erupted in Kinshasa today, with security forces firing shots in the air and tear gas to disperse several hundred people who were angry at the rebel takeover. Protestors also attacked the governing party’s headquarters in Kisangani, the country’s second-biggest city. Congo’s president, Joseph Kabila, said he will withdraw Congo’s ambassador from Rwanda in protest at the situation. The International Crisis Group, an independent think-tank, warned today that the rebel victory “could send shock waves” through eastern Congo and could “relaunch open warfare between the DRC and Rwanda.” Jason Stearns, a leading Congo analyst, said the rebel advance in Goma may be intended to “nettle the government, underscore its ineptitude, and hope that it will collapse from within.” The humiliating defeat of the UN and Congolese military forces in Goma will shine a spotlight on Rwanda’s involvement, yet the international community will have little choice but to ask Rwanda for help in controlling the rebels, Mr. Stearns said. Other analysts said the rebel capture of Goma could complicate efforts to trace and control the flow of “conflict minerals” – also known as “blood minerals” – that help finance wars and atrocities in Congo. With its unofficial control of Goma, the Rwandan government could find it easier to smuggle minerals out of eastern Congo. Meanwhile, the humanitarian situation in eastern Congo is growing worse as thousands of people flee their homes and some aid workers are withdrawn from Goma. Oxfam estimated that up to 100,000 people could flee as a result of the rebel advances. A growing number of camps for displaced people are under threat as the fighting spreads, Oxfam said. “The atmosphere in the city is tense, people are worried,” said Grace Tang, a Canadian who heads the Goma mission of Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders). One camp, Kanyaruchinya, is now empty after 60,000 people fled in panic, MSF said. “Medical teams report thousands of new arrivals since yesterday with people desperate to be registered,” the agency said. The UN children’s agency, UNICEF, said it is “deeply concerned” about the deteriorating situation in eastern Congo. “The renewed conflict is putting children and their families at risk, leaving them exposed to physical harm and mental distress,” UNICEF said in a statement. “UNICEF is particularly concerned about the psychological trauma faced by children, in addition to the risk of cholera outbreaks following a recent upsurge of the disease among internally displaced people in Kanyaruchinya.”
