Somaliland: Back Around The Table With Somalia Monday, 21 January 2013 20:13 Dr M. A. Omar Somaliland Foreign ministerSomalilandsun - Bilateral talks between the new administration of Somalia and Somaliland will resume soon. Below is an article published by All Africa: Somaliland's Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr. Mohammed Abdulahi Omar has told journalists that the stalled talks between the new administration of Somalia and Somaliland officials will resume soon. Dr. Omer said the talks would be a follow-up of the earlier talks in London and United Arab Emirates. A similar statement was made by Somalia's Prime Minister, Ali Farah Shirdon, a day earlier. Prime Minister Shirdon told reporters that the talks would resume "soon" and expressed his hopes that they would be fruitful. The talks halted because of the ending of the transitional process in Somalia and the elections of a new Parliament and a new President, as well as a new administration, last year.

Africa should have one president’-Mugabe January 16, 2013 in National, News, Politics PRESIDENT Robert Mugabe yesterday said the forthcoming African Union (AU) summit should discuss the appointment of a President of Africa to foster unity among Africans and ensure that member states adhere to the founding principles of the continental body. Report by Everson Mushava Mugabe was addressing journalists at State House after a two-hour meeting with President Thomas Boni Yayi of the Benin Republic, who is also the outgoing AU chairman, in Harare. Yayi said he was in Zimbabwe to discuss the challenges Africa was facing as a continent and to get advice on ways to end conflict, in countries like the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali and Central African Republic, among others. The proposal to set up a United States of Africa was first made by the slain Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in 1999 as a way of ending the continent’s conflicts, but it failed to secure enough support from his African counterparts with some suspecting Gaddafi wanted to rule Africa. But Mugabe yesterday emphasised Africa should have one president who would help fight divisions and move Africa to a continental power from the regional shell he claimed it was today. “Yes, we need a President for Africa,” Mugabe said. “That is what we are going to discuss at the AU summit. Africa is not a united continent. We are not at the stage our founding fathers wanted us to be when the organ was formed.” Mugabe said the AU had failed to integrate Africans, with some seen in the context of Anglophones and others Francophones. Mugabe said he was pleased that even though Zimbabweans had political differences, they had realised they were guided by the same destiny and hoped the forthcoming elections would be peaceful. Yayi, who yesterday defended the move to request Nato forces to end the conflict in Mali and stop the Islamic rebels from seizing the Malian capital Bamako, said he had fruitful discussions with Mugabe. “For Mali, we had to invite Nato because the situation was critical. It was an issue of religious intolerance and a matter of terrorism,” he said. Yayi left Harare yesterday.

British PM promises referendum on staying in EU by 2017 BY GUY JACKSON, AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE POSTED ON 01/23/2013 4:13 PM | UPDATED 01/23/2013 5:49 PM In an image grab from pooled video footage taken on January 21, 2013 shows British Prime Minister David Cameron © speaking in parliament in London as Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg (L) and Foreign Secretary William Hague look on. AFP PHOTO/POOL LONDON, United Kingdom (UPDATED) - British Prime Minister David Cameron on Wednesday, January 23, promised to hold a referendum by the end of 2017 giving British people the choice of staying in or leaving the EU if his party wins the next election. In a long-awaited speech in London, Cameron said he wants to first renegotiate the terms of Britain's membership of the European Union because "public disillusionment with the EU is at an all-time high". He said: "When we have negotiated that new settlement, we will give the British people a referendum with a very simple in-or-out choice." Cameron said that if his party wins an outright victory in the general election, it would hold a referendum during the first half of the new five-year parliament, by the end of 2017. He warned that if the EU failed to bring in the reforms that he wanted, Britain could "drift" out of the 27-member bloc. Cameron said the EU was grappling with the eurozone, "a crisis of European competitiveness" and the gap between the EU and its citizens had "grown dramatically in recent years". "If we don't address these challenges, the danger is that Europe will fail and the British people will drift towards the exit," he said. Cameron has faced intense pressure from the eurosceptic right wing of the Conservative Party to take a stand on Europe, an issue that has long divided the party. But his pledge to hold a referendum drew an immediate warning from one of Britain's main European partners, France. "It risks being dangerous for Britain itself because Britain outside of Europe, that will be difficult," French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius told France Info radio. In a speech that he had originally planned to give in Amsterdam last Friday before the Algerian hostage crisis intervened, Cameron said his party would make the referendum pledge in its campaign for the 2015 general election. "The next Conservative manifesto in 2015 will ask for a mandate from the British people for a Conservative government to negotiate a new settlement with our European partners in the next parliament," he said. "And when we have negotiated that new settlement, we will give the British people a referendum with a very simple in-or-out choice to stay in the EU on these new terms, or come out altogether. It will be an in-out referendum." Cameron said a rethink of Britain's membership was essential because British people resented the intrusion into national life of unnecessary rules and regulations set by the EU. The prime minister said he understood the "impatience" of those who want to hold a referendum immediately, but insisted the time was not right now. "I don't believe that to make a decision at this moment is the right way forward, either for Britain or for Europe as a whole," he said. "A vote today between the status quo and leaving would be an entirely false choice." Explaining why he wants to wait, Cameron said the eurozone crisis will leave the EU transformed "perhaps beyond recognition" and that Britain wanted to help shape the future of the bloc that emerges from it. His insistence on holding a referendum with a stark in-or-out choice will anger his coalition government partners, the pro-Europe Liberal Democrats. The leader of the main opposition Labour party, Ed Miliband, said the speech would show Cameron was "a weak prime minister, being driven by his party, not by the national economic interest". It will also dismay many business leaders, who have warned the referendum pledge risks creating uncertainty which will harm Britain's economic prospects. Cameron has also faced warnings from Britain's close ally the United States against isolating the country from the EU. - Rappler.com

Not true Xiinfaniin the President does not believe in a forced union he wants a union but not a forced one unlike what many of you demand in you're circles. Second the President talked about how the union was formed in 1960 as two equal states at a time there was a sense of Somalinimo. He insinuated that there might not be even a union when he said hadiba aynu midowno. At the end the president of Somalia will let the decision of statehood to the people of Somaliand because that's the way forward. You Xiinfaniin and the President do not share the same political values not on Jubbaland and certainly not on the republic of Somaliland:D
