SomaliPhilosopher;924374 wrote: The doctor has a point. A double standard of praise for Chavez and condemnation of Barre seems to exist. Doctor, I think this double standard can be explained through the fact that the general ideals and values propagated by "Socialist" leaders such as Chavez and Barre are one of which we admire. Though when these leaders nastily infringe on the "rights" of its citizens as a means of consolidating power is when we begin to to turn this admiration to condemnation. As Somalis, we are able to criticize Barre because these infringements have been felt by us or people close to us in essence it is personal whereas the infringements of Chavez is something very distant to us, something that is hard to see or feel. So instead we can only see Chavez in the lens of his values and ideals. There are good dictators and bad dictators as i see it Good dictators Hugo chavez Isaias afewerki Ismael omar geele Robert Mugabe Bad dictators Meles zenawi Muhammad Siyad bare Gadafi Mubarak

NGONGE i am not sure Wadani might have started as a weak opposition but when the likes of Dr Gaboose joined i am not sure, if the government can pull it off. By the way the Somaliland and Somalia talks is a separate road map, should not be confused with the conference. Also Sultan Faisal ali is unpredictable.
-
NGONGE this conference will be different it will be chaired by Hassan culusow and David Cameron the previous conference was not like that, what will Somaliland benefit from attending such a conference, so far the government was invited but they said we have to think about it. If they go they shoot themselves in the foot , both of the opposition groups are against this conference. I still have hope that Oday Siilaanyo will not make such miscalculation.

I was watching President hassan sheikh on TV qatar special lecture , the man is charismatic and knows what he is talking about i think Somalia after a long period of civil war it has a President with a plan. Now ofcourse many would say its just talk and we still haven't seen anything special so far but what i want to say is , Somalia for the first time a leader that walks acts talks as a President and not as a warlord and that its self is a huge achievement. http://www.ustream.tv/channel/special-lecture-somali-president

The problem why Somalia is not moving forward
Xaaji Xunjuf replied to Xaaji Xunjuf's topic in Politics
Another dilemma is the Somali identity till the day of today we sill have no clue what it really stands for. Often confused with term Somali politicians love to use which is Somalinimo , is it a political construct an ethnic construct or a cultural one , the subconscious alligence to the people not the country but clan sub clan and culture one finds it that Somalis do not identify themselves with Somali before they adopted the name Somali.Reason why Somalis , do not act as a nation not in midevil time and certainly not now in the 21 century. Its because the nation they were forcing to create, was just a mere step in the political evolution that was about to take place because of several factors the colonial experience and because the neighboring states in east Africa were going through a similar process. And so that its people could overcome the problems facing the Somali race but it backed fired, and the question is why? -

Welll he claims to be from a different country and has nothing to do with somalia, while those from Mogadishu and Kismayo claim to be from the same country you have to understand faisal ali waraabe doesnt consider reer Mogadishu his country men lets be clear on that he said several times he consider somalia a dead body, that is being dragged behind somaliland. -

People in Pennsylvania didn't trust the people of Georgia, who didn't trust the people of Tennessee, who didn't trust the people of New York, etc. And this was perfectly fine, because the US Federal Government was tiny . It did almost nothing at all. But over time, these state identities no longer mattered, and people stopped seeing themselves as "New Yorkers" or "Georgians" and started seeing themselves as Americans instead Somalis need to find their own system a system they are happy with , only then they can move forward, the plan to have a goverment that is not really a goverment is perfect , a goverment that just assists with security but allows the states to develop their own regions actually being boss of their own regions is a perfect plan. My friend Pan Somalism was a very un Somali concept our fore fathers believed never in a state a governing system for all Somalis , every one ruled his own little turf, our ancestors only started with the Pan Somalism, 80 years ago , to create some sort of a state some where in the late 30s they started establishing political parties , based on pan Somalism. SYL SNL . But we were never liked it was unSomali it was a reaction to colonialism. But when the colonialists left we went back to our own Somali nature, Somali nationalism never really existed in our households we went along with it , the notion to be ruled by a structured state is unfamiliar, in Somali societies. So you're idea might just work for Somalis. -

The problem why Somalia is not moving forward

I think that is very good idea if its conducted in the correct way, i think that idea should be considered, because if that is done for like 20 or 30 years, Somalis than would evolve their statehood and upgrade it and they would have a real functioning state, and allow more of the goverment in their daily society. i think its a very good experiment and i think it would work if you ask me., because its part of the Somali political culture that we never liked to be governed Somalis do not like to be told what to do by a superior power. -

Wadani i have observed Somalis allot in their political capabilities their leaders and their political culture , the only way Somalis to stay together under one country is if they are forced. Like general siad bare did ,nin walba meel ba u cad cid badinaysa na wali ma hayno lol -

Jacpher;924095 wrote: Xaajiyoow you could be right with all that but you conviniently leave out one thing that unites most Somalis regardless of the war, Somalia is to stay together and never break up into pieces. I doubt it ,1/3 of the Somalis believe that they already broke away, the rest is busy creating clan states between a centralized system and a clan federalism. i dont think all Somalis believe in this unity , further more a Somali in Mogadishu feels more closer to general Bahuku than a fellow Somali from Kismayo. The other Somali from Kismayo believes that general kwuanku is closer to him than a fellow Somali in Mogadishu. And we still dont have a winner.
