Somaliland: A Raila Odinga Presidency in Kenya is Healthy for Somaliland Saturday, 02 March 2013 14:19 Raila Odinga friend of SomalilandCould Raila Odinga finally be that neighbour with sugar for Somaliland? By: Robleh M. Lafcanbe Somalilandsun - The Republic of Kenya will be electing a new President for the first time since the 2007 Presidential election that was marred by violence and corruption. The world will be closely watching the outcome of the election with hopes of Kenya redeeming itself from the past election. Their neighbors are also paying considerable attention towards the election. The people of Somaliland are keeping a keen eye on the Presidential election to see who will lead their neighboring country. At a time where the Horn of Africa has recently seen a change of leadership, the government of Somaliland remains hopeful of achieving statehood. Ethopia's former strongman Meles Zenawi passed away last summer and was replaced by youthful Deputy PM & Foreign Minister Hailemariam Desalegn. Somalia moved on from its transitional period and selected rookie politician Hassan Sheik Mohamud as their new President. President Mohamud has picked up where the transitional government left off by preparing to continue the talks between Somaliland and Somalia. Prime Minister Hailemariam has picked up exactly where Zenawi has left off, maintaining Ethiopia's close – but not close enough – relations with Somaliland. Kenya's outgoing President, Mwai Kibaki, hasn't acknowledged or reached out to Somaliland during his two terms as President and just as Kenyans are eager see him go, Somalilanders are ready for change as well. The presumed front runner, Raila Odinga, is no stranger to Somaliland. During his tenure as PM, he's gone to unexpected heights by inviting and welcoming delegations from Somaliland. He met with several ministers including the Foreign Minister of Somaliland, Mohamed Abdullahi Omar. Odinga is the only high-ranking politician in Africa to do so. His fellow party members have also made headlines declaring their support for the Republic of Somaliland. Richard Onyonka, Kenya's Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and ODM party member, announced in May 2011 that his government supports the independence of Somaliland and that he would advocate for its recognition. This time around, if Odinga is elected, the international attention that we've tirelessly been yearning for will fall in to place. That doesn't mean we will achieve recognition right away. In 2011, the world welcomed South Sudan as a new country and it enlightened the people of Somaliland. We prematurely assumed that we would be granted recognition and follow their steps to statehood. A year and a half later, South Sudan hasn't made any effort to explore the idea that we've dreamed of. This is an example why it is imperative that we keep in mind that a new relationship with Kenya – if Odinga is elected- will be built slowly and carefully. We will likely see an Odinga government that will start focusing on enhancing Kenya's current diplomatic relations with Somaliland. There will be a primary focus on battling Al-Shabaab. After Kenya was devastated by terrorist attacks within the past year, an Odinga government will be looking for support to achieve this. The current Somaliland government's strong attitude towards national security and its efforts of countering Al-Shabaab is exactly what Odinga will be after and it will beyond any doubt strengthen our relations. Raila Odinga has reached out to Somaliland when our calls have been ignored. From his years as an opposition politician to PM of Kenya, His sincerity and loyalty towards Somaliland hasn't been seen before by any African politician. As he rose through the ranks, he hasn't forgotten us. And as he seeks the highest office in Kenya, we wish him nothing but the best.

Somalia: Ethiopia, Somalia to Form Joint Ministerial Commission Ethiopian Foreign Minister Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and Somali Foreign Affairs Minister Fowsiyo Yusuf Haji Aadan agreed to set up a joint ministerial commission, Ethiopia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced Tuesday (January 29th). "The signing of this agreement here today will open a new chapter in our relations, further strengthening our unique ties and provide us the opportunity to further cement the existing relations between our peoples," Ghebreyesus said after the ceremony on Monday in Addis Ababa. Aadan thanked Ethiopia for its contribution to peace and stability in Somalia. "Ethiopia has been a great supporter of Somalia," she said. "You have been with us in all these difficult times in the past and we are grateful." The first meeting of the joint ministerial commission will be held in Mogadishu.

Kenya ethiopia what is the difference , dont they both occupy Somali territories , and what do you mean active love for Ethiopians, its not that there are Ethio's in Somaliland yet they are in 4 regions in south central Somalia under Ethiopian troops never heard you reject those?. Somaliland has little to do with Ethiopia ,Ethiopia is just a neighbor of Somaliland nothing more nothing less like djibouti and yemen.

Somali and Nomad discriminatory and politically incorrect?

Raamsade you have no clue what you are talking about the Somali ancestry doesn't come from one place but several places and ofcourse some indigenous to the Somalia some go beyond Somalia. The notion of using the African origin its self is very flawed what is an African origin you sound like those African Americans who think Africa is a country or a city state, the sub clades and different haplogroups proves that the so called ethnic Somalis come from different origins but some how with the rise of islam they assimilated and formed one identity, because they were the few only Muslims in the Horn, the Somali identity is very wide open for every one can be a Somali, you speak Somali you can be a Somali, yet you can come from north Sudan south Sudan or Ethiopia, Kenya it doesn't matter these are not my opinions these are genetics speaking for themselves. -
Its very simple the 2 kids in the play illustrate that the Somaliland kid is in disagreement with the Somalia kid on the case of Somalilands for statehood, which is a reality case in 2013. Why should we hide it from our kids. The Somalia kid plays that he wants Somaliland under Somalia the Somaliland kid refuses to be under Somalia, i think its a good play for other kids to watch. By the way i think there is nothing Xenophobic, you have special cases when people just dislike other people because of things that happened civil war, and than sometimes emotions cannot be controlled. But there will always some sort of cultural bond between Somalia and Somaliland, and there will be maybe some sort of political Somali solidarity in the horn. But we are not that far yet, because i know a kid he is not a kid any more but in 1989 he was 15 years old back than, his father was a soldier and died in the 1977 war so he grew up with out a father, when the war broke out in Somaliland in 1988 his mother was killed in the war. i remember when i was in London few years ago and there was a demonstration against the Ethiopian occupation of xamar and many Somalilanders took part of the demonstration and he was asked to come and show somali solidarity. He told the people who invited him adeer, Hooyaday na Somalia dishay , abahay na Ethiopia dishay aniga waad i simantihin kuwa kala doonta. So there are cases of deep seated hatred, but it will fade away after 2 generation or so.

Its not hatred kids should be prepared for life politically economically and socially , parents teach their children about their being identity religion heritage their country history so when they grow up they stand strong in their feets the kid 10 years old he is not a baby over 5 years wa qaan gaadh naag ba loo guurin kara.

Very funny they will be good actors when they grow up , its good for the kids to know where they are from they are the future leaders

Jubbaland will be very hard to solve , because SAHAL community would say they are dominating because they have the vast majority districts when you unite gedo with the lower jubba and middle juba, and the HAG will never accept to be be dominated , clan federalism can work in Puntland , galguduud and hiiraan, shabeelada dhexe and shabeelada hoose , to some extend, even though shabeelada hoose is very diverse. The same with bay and bakool, lets see how it goes in the next coming months. -

Even than you have the right to kick all Landers from SOL LOL So far no conferences planned in Middle shabelle to form a state with lower shabelle. and bay and bakool still want to be involved in the Jubbaland formation , it will be interesting how this clan federalism works out. The 3 sub clans of the Habr ganster clan were never united under one Entity , they were only united to expand to the lower shabelle and lower jubba. But never united in galguduud so i dont see that happening and especially not with reer hiiraan. -

I dont see that happening reer galguduud would never share a state with reer hiiraan i dont see that happening the rest might be possible Reer Djibouti call reer Somaliland , lali. -
