Lower Shabeele Region: The Epicenter of Somalia's Civil War Legacy

Its seems Alshabaab understands the true definition of peace and reconciliation. Give credit where its due when Shabaab was ruling these regions people never heard of clan fighting. When the so called liberation forces came Amisom and Militia came, result was tribal clashes on daily bases. -
Hawdian clan issues are very sensitive in the houses of the Koonfurians, they don't put it in the open they keep it behind close doors but that it self is a major problem so they are very suspicious about each other. This never creates harmony or trusts between communities. Where as in Somaliland you will hear clan disputes being discussed in the open on TV on the national television u will hear the Presidential adviser calling u out an entire tribe and calling them selfish and being hypocrites after the Taleex clash few weeks ago. So if some one throws A qabil joke even they take it to the heart which is a problem they dont know what is serious and what is not, they feel very uncomfortable talking about Qabil though they want to talk about it but they dont know why.

Lower Shabeele Region: The Epicenter of Somalia's Civil War Legacy

Lagama tegeyo because there was. national reconcilation. Somalis want problems to go away they don't want to face them. Elders never reconciled clans in somalia not between galmudug and ximan iyo xeeb clans. Maybe nation wide reconcaliation is needed but somalis are not ready for that because allot of old wounds will be re opened. -

Somalia symbolically ended the 22 years civil war after a permanent government was established and the Somali elders selected members of parliament. But substantiality the civil has turned a different course where Somalis are still fighting along tribal lines.Somali academics intellectuals have gradually repeated that reconciliation is the way forward. But than a question rises who reconciles with whom , who is the victim who is the aggressor. And in Somalia talking about the civil war on a national level still remains controversial and highly delicate. Yesterday the Somali president spoke in the media calling for a peaceful solution but his government lacks the very tools and functionality to win the trust and minds of the people he supposed to govern. People can say allot about Alshabaab with their extremist views and policies but tribal warfare was unknown in the regions they previously governed. Though Somalia is making steady progress in some area's Mogadishu the capital being under construction people being able to return but the problems as how a country functions remains the biggest challenge for the government but also for the citizens. The army still functions as a militia and is still not able to take a single village with out the African union troops. How ever we should take in account that 2 years ago Most of Somalia was under Alshabaab today this is not the case but the problems cant be tackled by those in charge. The year is ending we are heading towards 2014 soon it will be 10 years since the first TFG government was put together of Colonel Cabdilahi Yusuf. And it some how remains Somalis are still struggling with the same problems

If you want to socialize with somalia be my guest but don't try to socialize with the somalilanders while claiming that you want divide their nation along clan lines.I know kenyans slaughter eachother during the elections but have u seen somalilanders do that. No somalilanders get along fine and they don't need some foreigner from kenya to the bidding for somalia another country. You said before u don't care if somalia and somaliland go their separate ways officially in the eyes of the world but you have the greater Somali fairytale map on your page. You hate the fact that somalilanders buried that dream, you want somalis of somalia and somaliland to play a strong role in your betterment in kenya. But we made sure you are on your own and this hurts u deeply . -

Never play with your cards to early by the way why would somaliland go against the hags, those who are making or calling the loudest for injustice in lower shabelle also sidelined others in lower jubba. He is an honest man i hope if ucid wins the next presidential elections i hope his presidential candidate Jamaal can execute his policies well and he can be the hidden Ayatollah behind the curtains.

Second day of deadly clashes in South Sudan At least 66 dead in fighting, and 10 senior officials held in what president says is a coup attempt by former deputy. Last updated: 17 Dec 2013 18:37 Ads by BetterSurfAd Options Fresh clashes have broken out in the South Sudanese capital Juba, and at least 66 soldiers have been killed, a day after President Salva Kiir said security forces had put down an attempted coup by supporters of his former deputy. The US embassy said on its Twitter account late on Tuesday that that all of its citizens in the country should "depart immediately". The account tweeted that it would outline evacuation options on Wednesday morning. "So far we have lost seven soldiers who died while they were waiting for medical attention and a further 59 who were killed outside," doctor Ajak Bullen said on the local Radio Miraya. Poor communications in Juba, where the mobile phone system has not operated since Monday evening, meant it was difficult to obtain a broad picture of the number of dead during the clashes, which have involved heavy arms and artillery. Kiir said on Monday the fighting between army factions was a bid to seize power by the former vice president, Riek Machar, whom he sacked in July. The two men, from different ethnic groups, which have clashed in the past, have long been political rivals. Analysts said divisions between them run deep and rivalries in army ranks have long simmmered. Al Jazeera's Rawya Rageh, reporting from neighbouring Nairobi, spoke to South Sudan's Information Minister Michael Makuei Lueth who confirmed at least 10 very senior former government officials have been arrested, including six cabinet ministers. The government named the men on its website. There are conflicting reports about the whereabouts of Riek Machar. The government claims he is on his way to Unity State, whereas Machar's spokesperson said he is in fine condition and "very much still in Juba", Rageh said. Heavy weapons Gunfire - including the sporadic firing of heavy weapons - resumed in the early hours of Tuesday and was still audible at 9am (0600 GMT). It appeared to come from a military headquarters, a few kilometres from the centre of town. South Sudan's president says coup attempt 'foiled' Residents near Juba airport, which has been closed since Monday, were woken before dawn by gunshots and blasts, a UN worker said. Others also reported bouts of shooting. The streets of Juba were deserted, with only military vehicles to be seen and civilians barricaded in their homes. Kiir had said in a statement on Monday that security forces had regained control, although a dawn-to-dusk curfew had been imposed. "The attackers went and [the] armed forces are pursuing them," Kiir said. "I promise you today that justice will prevail." Details of the claimed coup remained sketchy, but South Sudan's Foreign Minister Barnaba Marial Benjamin told the Associated Press news agency that troops in the main army base raided a weapons store in Juba but were repulsed. Civilians take refuge The UN deputy special representative for South Sudan, Toby Lanzer, told Al Jazeera on Tuesday that about 16,000 civilians were now taking refuge from the fighting in two UN compounds. "We will of course do everything we can do protect people. Many people who are coming require health care of all types," he said. "Some people have been injured. We've got challenges of a variety - and the water and sanitation situation is also something that we are grappling with." Tension had been mounting in South Sudan since Kiir's sacking of Machar. The men belong to different ethnic groups - Kiir to the Dinka, the most powerful, and Machar to the Nuer, but it is not clear whether this latest tension is due to ethnic or political divisions. Machar, who has expressed a willingness to contest the presidency in 2015, told Al Jazeera in July that if the country is to be united it cannot tolerate "one man's rule or it cannot tolerate dictatorship." His sacking, part of a wider dismissal of the entire cabinet by Kiir, had followed reports of a power struggle within the ruling party. South Sudan's government has struggled to create a functioning state since it declared independence from Sudan in 2011 after years conflict with Khartoum during a war that often saw south-south clashes.
