Cadale people of Mogadishu adopted gangster culture though the city has calmed and some sort of normalcy has returned but people will still sell arms people tend to take allot of serious security measures for their close relatives and to protect their assets. They cant trust the security forces i believe. You have to fight the culture i dont really blame them reer Mogadishu lived in turmoil constant shelling and wars and attacks it became normal for them, it takes time for them to accept normal life that its not normal to have guns on the streets of a capital city. U wont grasp this because u haven't lived there in the 1990s up to now.

Sudanese FM says his country impartial in Egypt-Ethiopia crisis over Renaissance Dam Sudan is neither on Egypt's nor Ethiopia's side and will pursue its attempts to bridge the gap between the two countries, says the Sudanese minister of foreign affairs , Wednesday 19 Feb 2014 Sudan’s Foreign Minister Ali Ahmed Karti attends the Arab League foreign ministers meeting in Baghdad March 28, 2012. (Reuters) Related Egypt to officially demand halt in construction of Ethiopian dam Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Karti said on Wednesday his country is not taking sides in the crisis between Egypt and Ethiopia over the construction of the Renaissance Dam. "We will continue our efforts to bridge the gap between Ethiopia and Egypt on the disagreements about the Renaissance Dam," Karti told Sudanese newspaper The Sudan Tribune, stressing on the neutrality of Sudan in the talks. The planned Grand Renaissance Dam is a $4.2 billion hydro-electric dam on the Blue Nile, one of the main tributaries of the Nile. The project has been a source of concern for the Egyptian government since May last year, when images of the dam's construction stirred public anxiety about possible effects on Egypt's share of the Nile water, the country's main source of potable water. Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan formed a tripartite technical committee to study the possible effects of the dam and try to generate consensus. Ethiopia maintains that Egypt's water share will not be negatively affected by the successful completion of the project. In recent meetings in Khartoum, the tripartite committee was scheduled to formulate a document that entails "confidence building measures" between the countries, and also to form a special international conflict-resolution committee. However, the tripartite committee's success was thwarted last December when Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir announced his support for the dam during a meeting with Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn. The Egyptian minister of irrigation said on Tuesday that unless Ethiopia offers a mutually agreeable solution, Egypt may officially demand the Ethiopian government to stop the construction of the Renaissance Dam.

Training disciplining the security forces is number one priority if the SFG does not pay the forces on time or sometimes doesn't even pay them. They will neglect the security Alshabaab can easily give them 300 dollars to logistic explosives for them. Thats the biggest challenge you need to enlarge the interior ministry make sure the interior ministry and defense ministry focuses on Mogadishu and make sure the intelligence service has ears every where but it needs a proper budget and people with knowledge to execute those affairs. It seems the government in Mogadishu wants the African union troops to do all of that but the issue is only Somalis can secure the region the African union troops can only beat shabaab from the regions they can never maintain the security.

Move Over Djibouti, Somaliland Is Comming.."Berbera Port Set To Grow"
Xaaji Xunjuf replied to CidanSultan's topic in Politics
I dont mind their investment they going to invest in berbera port but it needs to be not a long term contract not more than 15 years. Djibouti currently has monopoly of Ethiopian export and import, it earns close 2 a billion dollar a year every year actually through dubai port. If bollore wants to expand berbera port its good but SL government needs to be careful not to sign something like 30 or 40 years. Remember Bollore is eyeing Ethiopia and we understand that but Somaliland should have the best deal out if it. -

I wanna know exactly how long the SL government wants to lease the berbera port i know bollore is interested but SL should not go for long term leasing the port not more than 15 years. -
Federalism might have been a short term solution but it kills the idea of citizens ship of a state we see it in lower shabelle lower jubba places of mixed Clans. Tribal federalism will eventually lead to further fragmentation. It might work for Puntland because Puntland is more homogeneous one clan and before Colonialism that part of the Somalia was part of the Maguartiania Sultanate. But what about a person from galguduud mudug hiiraan Banadir lower shabelle middle shabelle middle jubba etc. Puntland already introduced its own identification cards if every other region does that Somalia will not exist as a nation but as a lose country confederated between local Tribal Presidents and flags.

I have said before on these boards that ethno nationalism was destine to fail with in the Somali state because Somali nationalism was conceived on weak principles, Somali state hood was easily undermined just by tribal grievances. Somalis never had a common shared history a shared a plight which could bind them together as under one unified nation the 1960 union was mostly a union conceived on emotions it didn't last long. The tribal nature of Somalis is not the only problem ironically Somalis all seem to be proud of their Somali heritage and culture, but the moment politics and sharing a nation or a state is presented to them they become all waranles like 3 centuries ago all carrying their waran trying to strangle their tribal opponents in the wilderness. I wonder if the African union troops leave who would be the dominating factor in Somalia the international community does not want nature to be nature Somalis have created a parallel strength of structure which makes it impossible for ever to be a dominating factor. Another obstacle in the whole nation forming of the nomadic Somalis, who are the founding fathers of the Somali state or even from a historic point of view some say ina cabdulla xassan but half of the Somalis in Southern Somalia have never heard of him The former regime tried to illiterate him as a Somali nationalist,But Most Somalis of today who can read a few books will figure out he had more in-common with today's shabaab. Or Imam Axmed Guray but even he might have been an ethnic Somali , but the man was more situated in Seylac and Harar and waged a jihad against the Abyssinians not like a Somali national but as a Muslim fanatic and the adal empire at that time had so many ethnics living there. The closest Somalis and in this case Somalis from Somalia is the SYL. But even in post war Somalia no one really hold them in high regard.

WHERE IS SOMALIA’S QAZI? February 19, 2014 By Abdi Farah Laqan In August 1920, in the aftermath of the 1st World War, the victorious allied nations met in Sevres, just outside Paris, to sign a treaty that dictated the partition of Anatolia (present day Turkey), which had been the seat of the defeated Othman empire. To make things worse, large chunks of the Turkish homeland were given to historical enemies of Turkey. A region in the west was to become part of Greece. Eastern provinces would become a new Armenian state. A region in the south would be given to the Kurds. Russia, Italy, France, and Britain grabbed the most productive parts of the land for themselves. What was left for the Turks was a rocky expanse in central Anatolia with no access to the Aegean or the Mediterranean seas. This was not to be. What the allied nations failed to grasp was the resolve of the Turkish people in general and the man who emerged as their leader in particular. Enter Mustafa Kemal Ataturk Mustafa Kemal first emerged as a military hero in 1915 in the protracted battle of the Gallipoli Peninsula. The British, who considered the Turks incapable of resistance, undertook a massive marine landing at the beaches of Gallipoli in order to capture Istanbul. Nearly eight months later the Allied troops (Britain, Australia, and New Zealand) retreated after suffering massive casualties. Forty-four thousand Allied troops died in the failed attempt to capture Gallipoli. Twice that number of Turks died defending it. Mustafa Kemal came out of the war a national hero. But what made Mustafa Kemal a legend was his dogged determination to stop the planned dismemberment of his country. Using the Sevres Treaty as a rallying cry, he organized and led a rebellion against the occupying powers. And against all odds, Mustafa Kemal and his clique of guerrillas managed to kick all foreign troops out of Turkey. After this huge triumph, the historic title of “Qazi” (reserved for great warriors and defenders of the faith) was bestowed on Mustafa Kemal. For the rest of his life Mustafa Kemal was known as “Qazi Pasha” or simply the Qazi. Today, it’s Somalia that is in danger of being dismembered. There are so many regions (of Somalia) that claim to be either autonomous or independent, so much so that I lost count. MogadishuThe demise of united Somalia is evident in the emergence of multiple mini-states, each one of them being the creation of a dominant clan in a geographical area. To survive, these clan fiefdoms stumble over each other seeking protection, as puppet mini-states, from Somalia’s neighboring countries, two of which (Ethiopia and Kenya), I suspect, have sinister motives in Somalia. It’s significant to note that these two countries have a long-standing mutual defense pact dating back to 1964 and renewed twice in 1980 and 1987. Perhaps it’s because of this defense pact that both maintain troops in certain regions of Somalia. It’s not far-fetched to surmise that, at best, they want to keep Somalia weak and divided or, at worst, annex parts of it. At this juncture, there is no central authority that has the moral capacity or the fortitude to lead and govern a united Somalia. The so-called Federal Government controls (with the help of foreign troops) no more than few blocks in Mogadishu. The current leadership is no different than those who came before them. Like their predecessors, they are nothing more than kleptocrats, eager to loot the meager sums of aid money donated by the international community to sustain the Somali people. After they stash enough cash in international banks they leave office, move out of the country and settle in foreign countries, leaving behind destitute citizenry. In Somalia, things are so broken that even those who have a shred of integrity left in them are swept in a clannish tide that never seems to recede. We’re continuously fighting among ourselves – clan against clan, sub-clan against sub-clan – that we seem not to know what it means to be a citizen of a country, any country. Even those of us who lead successful lives in North America and Europe, with college education and professional jobs are not immune to the toxicity of parochial views disseminated by clan propaganda machines. We seem to be always in the grip of clan sectarianism from which we can’t untangle ourselves, regardless of how hard we try. Even the best-intentioned of us, who may be inclined to believe in the sacrosanctity of united Somalia, find it almost impossible to shake this curse. Think about it, every time a new government is installed in Muqdisho, Hargeysa, Garowe, or any of the other autonomous entities, the first thing that every Somali, anywhere in the world, wants to find out is the clan composition of the new government. Qabiil1It appears that at every step of the way, clan loyalty trumps nationhood. Sure, we all claim that we belong to the nation of Somalia. But, seriously, who are we kidding? We all know that we’re hardwired to pledge allegiance to our respective clans first and foremost, with the idea of nationhood relegated to a distant second. So I ask you, what is the sense of having a national flag if no one is willing to fight for it? Why assemble a national army if the soldier who is supposed to defend the homeland would rather die fighting in a clan war. Why pretend to form a national government knowing that it’s based on a diabolical formula – the wicked 4.5 principle – which continually divides the Somali people into clans and sub-clans. The truth is we cannot be a viable nation while holding on to the misguided notion that clan lineage is paramount to the basic idea of nationhood. Yet that is exactly what is happening. Every (so-called) government constituted in Somalia in the last two decades has been formulated on clan basis. The problem is that there are far too many clans and subclans to share the limited number of senior positions, and every clan or subclan expects to be represented in the government. This, of course, is impossible since there is only one president, one prime minister, and a handful of ministerial positions. It’s only natural, given the limited supply of positions, that some clans will go empty-handed. Not being able to meet the political expectations of every clan is a problem that has no solution. As long as there are clans or sub-clans who feel that they have not received their equitable representation in the government, the stability of the government, any government in Somalia, will remain an unattainable dream. Perhaps that is why we have tens of thousands of foreign troops stationed in the country to prop up the clannish (and weak) government in Mogadishu. It is unfortunate that President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud fails to understand the futility of trying to pacify the population by military force, and a foreign one at that. That didn’t work for Sheikh Sharif or Abdullahi Yusuf either. Given the succession of bad leaders that Somalia had over the last twenty-some years, it is easy to conclude that the country is beyond repair; that the people are too polarized to find common ground; and that the genie of tribalism is out of the bottle and cannot be recaptured. That is all true to some extent, but it is wrong to assume that the situation is irreversible. The question is whether Somalia has the good fortunes to produce someone (among its sons and daughters) who can do for Somalia what Mustafa Kemal had done for Turkey. Let us hope so.

Dr osman what is happening in Turkey is between Somalia and Somaliland and not between Somalilanders u will never see Somalilanders being reconciled in a Foreign capital. Somalia and Somaliland 23 year dispute was a dialogue initiated by the international community . But u will never see Somaliland leaders being told to reconcile by Kenya or Ethiopia or Egypt or Ugandans or Turks. Guurti elders are a political institution Dr osman they are not just normal tribal elders, they are the upper parliament , even Somalia wants a guurti chamber of house. Guurti elders the upper parliament of SL
-
Dr osman its a different waraabe though lets not confuse the warabes lol Fighting in parliament happens every where in the world but in Somaliland the guurti the upper parliament take their responsibility to solve every dispute in Parliament even when it comes to a government dispute in parliament a tribal conflict between clans everything its a very effective institution of Somaliland. In Somaliland the elders of Somaliland in the guurti spared the people of Somaliland the humiliation to go foreign capitals and be mediated and forced to reconcile in Kampala addis ababa cairo. Every dispute is solved from with in and that indeed is the beauty of the Somaliland republic.

Osman again ur argument is flawed if u believe that only a couple of paid soldiers and politicians is keeping eastern sool and central sool with SL u are wrong this is laascanood during the political rallies are u saying SL paid all of these people Tilamook tell that to reer Khatumo who says other wise Dr osman dawasho wacan laascanood cali sandulles welcome
-
Detoore osman has not presented one argument his whole argument was that the people of sool will pick Puntland over Somaliland , when we all know the vast majority of the people of sool decided to share a country with their fellow kin and people in Somaliland. And kicked out Puntland out of their city in 2007 now the others who have grievances against SL formed ssc and Khatumo ssc joined Somaliland and khatumo is about to merge with SL , puntland holds not a single town in sool , Taleex and boocame are under Khatumo militia , the res tof sool is under Somaliland. If detoore is telling the truth that the people of sool wanted to be part of Puntland they would have alligned themselves with the pirates long time ago , and thats not the case. Puntland interrupted and undermined their conference not that long ago and waged a war against them.
-
sool has a few Elders and leaders all claim that sool is not Puntland so where do u get from that Sool is Puntland and if it was Puntland , where is their leadership in sool?
