Burahadheer what Galbeedi also misses was the days of the SNM are gone the SNM came in and destroyed the regime and gave the decision to the people. what do you want and the people said anagu xamar dooni meyno. What ever intention SNM had to rule the entire Somali republic (Somaliland and Somalia) was killed when SL declared independence, this ambition died, SL declared independence and the Koonfurians are colonized by AU troops. Somalilanders feel that the union did them wrong , and that Mogadishu was never a credible partner for the union, they had a vision for the union , but the koonfurians made it impossible. The youth want jobs i agree with galbeedi and would do everything to pursue their interest , but being second to koonfurians is for them to no go , they will not make the same mistake their grandfathers made.

REAL IMAGES OF THE DESPISED, DEBASED SOMALI LOT April 10, 2014 By Faisal A. Roble Two things do not add up together: On the one hand, the internet has been replete with images of Somalis being harassed, maimed and humiliated in Kenya. It became omnipresent in the media where Kenyan soldiers hit Somalis with batons, the butt of rifles and other torture weapons. On the other hand, we are treated with images of the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, hugging in an ugly and non-kosher manner, the President of Kenya, President Uhuru Kenyatta, who had authorized this large scale expulsion of innocent refugees. Kenya_expells_Somalis The proximity of grief and gaiety Not only that, but the only speech the President gave on this matter was more supportive of the extra judicial act of the government of Kenya and non-sympathetic to his people; he said Somalis are being subjected to this condition because of Al-Shabab in their country. While we are with both presidents in fighting against Al-Shabab, we totally reject the logic of rounding up innocent Somalis and their family only to expel them from their homes and business in Kenya to the makeshift airport in Mogadishu. Meanwhile the government in Mogadishu stopped a solidarity demonstration Mogadishu residents organized (Wardheenrews Radio, April 9, 2014). The questions is who is going to speak for the multitude of Somalis that are victims of extra judicial torture, rounding up of innocent civilians and extradition of displaced persons, all of which are in total contravention to international laws that protect and provide status for refuges. Adding an insult to an already festering wound, “Somalia’s ambassador to Nairobi, Ali Americo, told the BBC Somali Service that he had discussed the arrests with Kenya’s Interior Minister Joseph Ole Lenku at a meeting on Monday.” The Somali ambassador, seemingly in concert with the action the Kenyan government took added that “he had been informed that most of the 2,000 people arrested were Somalis.’ Nothing that the good ambassador said speaks about the plight of his people. At the closing of the week, the number of refugees rounded up shot up to 5,000 persons. Somali_ref KenyaHow does that make the action of the Kenyan government consistent with Human rights principles and protocol? The President of Somalia owes a national apology to the nation in general and to the family who had so far suffered in the hands of cruel police action. He intentionally omitted from his speech the scapegoating of innocent Somalis, to which Neil Carrier, a lecturer at Oxford University whose research focusses on Eastleigh said: “There is this cycle of always coming back to see Somalis as the handy scapegoats. I would imagine it will keep on like that, unless there is some sort of radical change in the way the international community deals with it.” Where do the priorities of the inane Somali government rest? Not long ago, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the home of the holiest shrine in Islam, has suddenly without due process ejected thousands of Somalis in a cruel manner. The government in Mogadishu uttered not even a single sentence in solidarity with its people. Granted that Somalia is not much of a state in the real sense of the word; but the Mogadishu government is the closest national sovereign state that Somalis have at this time. As such one would expect that Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud would say something, even if it is a mere but supportive and caring national speech, about the plight of his people. Very sad!! The powerlessness that Somalis feel today is akin to that of 1958, when Somalis helplessly watched the colonial power of England slice their land to friendly forces such as Ethiopia and the soon-to-be nation of Kenya. Mohamed Haji Ismail, aka Balaayo Cas, or Barkhad Cas, a Somali poet whose patriotism was deep expressed his dismay and helplessness about the scheme abrasive act of Western countries in dividing the Somali society at the closing of the Second World War and the dawning of Somali nation state. That poem is tragically appropriate today for both the conditions and the absence of a credible and forceful Somali voice are similar: It expresses the powerlessness of the Somalis and the option of crying by those who care as being the venue to grief: Awowgey ninkii indhaha tiray Ninkii aabbahay addoonsaday Ninkii anigana i iibsaday Ninkii ifka igu adduun tirey Lidaan li’i baa ishaa i bidee Haddaan ogohoon ka aarsan karayn Haddaan, Aadanow, unuunka jarayn! Ninkaa araggiisa uurkaan ka nebcee Aan ooyee albaabka ii xira! Isagoo Iglan jooga buu i diloo Ushuu soo fidshaa i iimaysoo Waa taa aramidu i oofa tirtee Asaag li’i baa ishaa i bidee Ninkaa araggiisa uurkaan ka nebcee Aan ooyee albaabka ii xidha! Arladii ka samroo adduun ma hayee Haddii la ilaashay afkaygii Haddaan ikhtiyaar aqoontay hadlayn Haddaanan erey qudha shirkaa odhanayn Ninkaa araggiisa uurkaan ka nebcee Aan ooyee albaabka ii xidha! Wixii arrineen Ilaahay jecleyn Haddaanan addimada ku oolin karayn Aayaadka Quraanka wada aragtoo Udgoonena yidhi “Indhaha ka qarshee” Ninkaa araggiisa uurkaan ka nebcee Aan ooyee albaabka ii xidha! Ugaadha ninkii dhaqdee ururshaa Ruuxii eegayaa adduun ka baxshee Raggiinnii ogaa horruu u arkee Ninkii ooridiisa u geynahayow Inkeeg iyo shaal ayuu ku arkine Iimowdey axankaaga weynee! Libaaxa Annayiyo Abaarso ka ciyey Abuuriin lo’da joogta baa urisee Oodday jebisaa in ay u dhacdoo Anshaxuu markaa ka guraa idilkeed Waa kaa Ingiriis iidahayee Idinna u dabbaaldegoo ariyahow! Ayaanu ninna oran “Soomaalaan ahee” Ordoo magacana ka iibsada! Not long ago, such a melancholic sentiment of being Somali and powerless hit me in the face. Invoked by a video that I watched, where Kenyan police men were whipping a helpless Somali man with multiple lashes, I felt an excruciating pain in the gut. So painful appeared the ceaseless and stream of lashes that the Somali man was receiving that he literally rolled back and forth, turned one side that was already bleeding to the other side in the hope of lessening the pain and suffering, just like slaves did when whipped by their masters/slave riders in the Southern belt of the United States, the infamous slave states. As a Somali in the Diaspora, who is cognizant equally of what Black America went through, and who read roots and other antebellum literature, I wept with my brother and jotted down my silent wailing words in an article I called “Wailing with My Brothers in Garissa and Eastleigh in Kenya.” Out of pain and sorrow, I equated the current Somali status in the scheme of the world to that of the “nigger,” as in “nigger” meaning “powerless”, “despised” and “debased” by all (Ralph Ellison, the Invisible Man). The current extra judicial act by Kenya against Somali refugees is nothing but debasing of thousands of innocent and peace loving people, telling them that they are less than, and showing them who has the bigger whip and lashes. I am profoundly sorry to see my people in this “wretched” condition. What irks me most is the answerless question of who is responsible for our predicament? Is it the silly and selfish cohort of politicians who had destroyed the Somali pride that was not long ago the envy of all others in the continent? Who turned what could have been a recoverable nation into a “Rentier Market State” where the highest bidder has the last word, as opposed to the citizens of the country? What is a nation state if it can’t utter a word of solidarity with its people in time of needs and suffering? In the end, though, none of these matter. Somalia is suffering from its own undoing of its statehood and had perfected the art of exposing its inner sanctum of nationhood to its enemies, thus rendering its citizens an open season for all to whip them, thrash and flog them. Today it is Kenya, yesterday it was South Africa, and tomorrow it may be someone else in the neck of our wood. This is one of those rare case where I get tempted to say Somalia have no one else, no African friends, no Arab friends, definitely no Anglo Saxon friends, aka the architects of the “war on terror”, the underlying philosophy that sanctions Kenyan action against Somali refugees. I say so because, all these forces have one time or another enslaved Somalis, killed them, or looked the other way when suffering befell them. This is, therefore, a moment of looking for a final consolation, solace albeit succor that we have in Allah the Almighty whose rivers of mercy and compassion never dry. Faisal A. Roble

And how do we know the Woman is from Somaliland where did she say she is from Somaliland who siad she is from SL , these people are Koonfurians and they were deported from Kenya at the end of the day its shameful for Somalia that their citizens are being abused in Kenya, its very sad that the topic opener uses this as an attack against SL. I mean if you call the woman that praises allegedly ur president a village lander what connects you with her. There are no Somaliland refugees in Kenya , the SL refugees fled in 1988 to Ethiopia to their ancestral home land in the Hawd and reserve area under Ethiopia and returned in 1991. The only ethnic Somalilanders are elites Kenyans who migrated there in the 19 century like the Grandfather of Amina Muhammed Kenya Foreign minister. Johnny former MP candidate in kenya and many residents from Isiolo, Somalilanders are not in the slums of isli. Trust me all the refugees Kenyan Somali mp ducaale was defending were all Koonfurians from Mogadishu baydhabo etc

Darkness in parts of Hargeisa, Republic of Soomaaliya
Xaaji Xunjuf replied to SomaliaRising's topic in Politics
Electricity has been a problem for quiet some time and energy is needed another reason to support the grand Renaissance dam of Ethiopia, the region will have cheap electricity. Having said that Somalia has more pressing issues Somalia rising dont you have to worry about UN agencies leaving Garowe and they being gunned down there, not that long ago and if you care about south central Somalia there was a blast in Mogadishu yesterday. This should be your first priority http://www.hiiraan.com/news4/2014/Apr/53962/blast_kills_regional_official_in_mogadishu.aspx -

Galbeedi you are making the same mistake as the kooonfurians do ,i thought as a man from Somaliland you know the difference between the public even , if Siilaanyo loved to be part of xamar, he cannot sell it to the people SNM elites were the closest unionists he even wrote a powersharing formula between SL and Somalia in 1990. But the poeple were fed up and said no more sharing a nation with Somalia. And its to late now, to reverse any of that 23 years we the old generation might remember an old Somali republic , but the youth have no clue of this its not the SL elites who decide its the people. In Somalia its their elites and their African union troop overlords who decide. in Somaliland its the people who want this independence cost what cost. Even the Awdal MP as you say are in this,, they might want more representation and support for their regions how ever they are committed to the republic Burahadheer Galbeedi is entitled to his opinion and let him share with us what he experianced in Somaliland.. Its good to see other peoples perspectives he is one man and a citizen of SL and every SL citizen , has one vote, in Somaliland its all about one man one vote

CREDIT: REUTERS/AMMAR AL-BUSHY RELATED TOPICS World » Syria » (Reuters) - Bashar al-Assad's Lebanese ally Hezbollah said his Western foes must now accept he will go on ruling Syria after fighting rebels to a standstill - a "reality" to which his foreign enemies seem increasingly resigned. Echoing recent bullish talk coming out of Damascus, Sheikh Naim Qassem, deputy leader of the Iranian-backed Shi'ite militia which is supporting Assad in combat, told Reuters that the president retained popular support among many of Syria's diverse religious communities and would shortly be re-elected. "There is a practical Syrian reality that the West should deal with - not with its wishes and dreams, which proved to be false," Qassem said during a meeting with Reuters journalists at a Hezbollah office in the group's southern Beirut stronghold. He said the United States and its Western allies were in disarray and lacked a coherent policy on Syria - reflecting the quandary that Western officials acknowledge they face since the pro-democracy protests they supported in 2011 became a war that has drawn al Qaeda and other militants to the rebel cause. Syria's fractious opposition - made up of guerrillas inside the country and a largely impotent political coalition in exile - had, he said, proved incapable of providing an alternative to four decades of rule by Assad and his late father before him. "This is why the option is clear. Either to have an understanding with Assad, to reach a result, or to keep the crisis open with President Assad having the upper hand in running the country," said the bearded and turbaned cleric. Qassem's comments follow an account from another Assad ally, Russian former prime minister Sergei Stepashin, who said after meeting him last week that the Syrian leader felt secure and expected heavy fighting to end this year. Officials said this week that preparations would begin this month for the presidential election - a move that seems to reflect a degree of optimism in the capital and which may well end with Assad claiming a popular mandate that he would use to resist U.N.-backed efforts to negotiate a transition of power. Hezbollah chief Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah also said this week that Assad is no longer at risk and that military gains mean the danger of Syria fragmenting was also receding. WESTERN RESIGNATION It is a view of Assad that - quietly - seems to be gaining ground in Western capitals. Calling it bad news for Syrians, the French foreign ministry said this week: "Maybe he will be the sole survivor of this policy of mass crimes". France, which last year was preparing to join U.S. military action that was eventually aborted, now rules out force and called the stalled talks on "transition" the "only plan" - a view U.S. officials say is shared in Washington, notably among military chiefs who see Assad as preferable to sectarian chaos. While rebels do not admit defeat, leaders like Badr Jamous of the Syrian National Coalition accept that without foreign intervention "this stalemate will go on". A U.S. official, asked about a deadlock that would leave Assad in control of much of Syria, conceded: "This has become a drawn-out conflict." Assad, 48, has weathered an armed insurgency which started with protests in 2011 and descended into a civil war that has sucked in regional powers, including Shi'ite Iran and Hezbollah who back the Alawite president and Sunni states like Saudi Arabia and Qatar behind the rebels. With Russia blocking a U.N. mandate, and voters showing no appetite for war after losses in Afghanistan and Iraq, Western governments have held back from the kind of military engagement that could have toppled the well-armed Syrian leader. More than 150,000 people have been killed in three years, as Assad has lost the oil-producing and agricultural east and much of the north, including parts of Syria's largest city, Aleppo. But he did not suffer the fate of other autocrats in the Arab Spring, whether the presidents of Tunisia, Egypt and Yemen or Muammar Gaddafi, the Libyan leader toppled and killed by rebels who rode into Tripoli under cover of Western air power. Instead, he has clawed back control near Damascus, where a year ago rebels hoped for a decisive assault, and the center of the country which links the capital to the coastal stronghold of Assad's Alawite minority. His troops, backed by Hezbollah fighters, took another key town on Wednesday. Though as much as half the country is being fought over, Assad could hope to hold at least a roughly southwestern half, including most of the built-up heartlands near the coast, and more than half of the prewar population of 23 million. This leaves Western powers reflecting on a perceived loss of influence in the Middle East. Many now see a new strategy of "containing" Assad - and the fallout from a bitter war that has created millions of refugees and legions of hardened guerrillas. "The U.S. has a stated policy of regime change, but it has never devoted the resources to effect that change," said Andrew Exum, a former U.S. official who worked on Middle East issues at the Pentagon. "The de facto U.S. strategy of containment is very well suited for what is likely to be a very long war." "STALEMATE WILL CONTINUE" Qassem said the United States, which backed away from military action in September after blaming Assad for gassing civilians, was hamstrung by fears over the dominance in rebel ranks of al Qaeda's Syrian branch, the Nusra Front, and another group, the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). "America is in a state of confusion. On the one hand it does not want the regime to stay and on the other it cannot control the opposition which is represented by ISIL and Nusra," he said. "This is why the latest American position was to leave the situation in Syria in a state of attrition." President Barack Obama said last month that the United States had reached "limits" after the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and questioned whether years of military engagement in Syria would produce a better outcome there. Qassem said: "I expect that the stalemate will continue in the Syrian crisis because of the lack of an international and regional decision to facilitate a political solution." U.N.-mediated talks at Geneva failed in February to bridge a gulf between Assad's government and opponents who insist that Assad must make way for a government of national unity. Western and regional powers who support the Syrian opposition say it would be a "parody of democracy" to hold an election in the midst of a conflict which has displaced more than 9 million people and divided the country across frontlines. Syria's electoral law effectively rules out participation by opponents who have fled the country in fear of Assad's police -candidates must have lived in Syria continuously for 10 years. "My conviction is that Assad will run and will win because he has popular support in Syria from all the sects - Sunnis and secularists," Qassem said. "I believe the election will take place on its due date and Assad will run and win decisively." Fear of hardline Islamists has undermined support for some rebels even among the 75 percent Sunni majority, and bolstered support for Assad among his fellow Alawites, and Christians. Qassem said it was too soon to speak of Hezbollah pulling out of Syria, despite an increase in Sunni-Shi'ite tensions within Lebanon caused by the intervention across the border of a movement that is Lebanon's most accomplished military force and also holds cabinet seats in the government in Beirut. "Until now we consider our presence in Syria necessary and fundamental," Qassem said. "But when circumstances change, this will be a military and political matter that requires a new assessment. "But if the situation stays as is and the circumstances are similar, we will remain where we should be". Good orator and a good man to defend the people i am proud of this man, he is a great Kenyan Somali politician he defends his constituency and all Somalis even if they are not from the north eastern province. -
Detoore again you are missing an essential point which is the addis ababa agreement was guaranteed by addis ababa and it might lose its viability when the contracts end. But what you fail to realize is that Jubba admin is being pushed by Kenya and Kenya is a Sovereign state all Mogadishu has to do is make sure it empowers its self and its military apparatus in the region, and they can get the funds the support. Mogadishu can still if Jubba admin does not behave it can fully back the six state formula and this will create chaos you will get action reaction and Mogadishu has more political resources from an international point of view, and this will give them the upper hand in the long term even jubb and madoobe tries to terminate the agreement. Detoore SL hasn't launched a bit the international community kept the dual track policy based on Somalia and Somaliland , the special arrangement regarding the aid is our evidence the airspace joint management agreement is also our witness, the process of the Dialogue between the countries is also one, these are all tremendous steps the SL government took, as for the projects the bollore project was a long project its not solely Kulmiye but a long term project even during rayaale ,, Siilaanyo might finalize the agreement. I believe SL has a long way to go but its on the right path , its in a very good position Hassan and the Damuljadid and the SL government have a common understanding on a range of issues they differ on some core issues but with time it will get there, As for Ethiopia , Ethiopia wants to befriend every Somali , the one in Djibouti Somaliland and Puntland ,southern Somalia Jubba admin it wants to be enemy to non, for them they dont want to pick sides , this gives them enormous leverage. Somaliland elites are fine with this aslong as Ethiopia recognizes SL passport and is not hostile towards Somaliland independence bid like some Arab states. But Ethiopia is also not a friend if they wanted SL to be independent the AU seat is in addis ababa they would have convinced states in this dark continent to support SL case, or atleast to be discussed in the AU summits Alpha the former Ghanian chairman did more for SL and raised the SL issue at AU level. But Ethiopia it wishes to exploit us all for its own interest, never trust a bug eyed xabashi, but since SL is pursuing its own interest, SL agenda is far more important than other peoples interest. The stalemate will continue for quiet some time its like there is a big treasure Somaliland has the key , Puntland knows where its buried , Mogadishu has the ships to get us there but we are not willing to help each other.

Long live Somaliland and its people

Detoore again the political climate is changing and the biggest factor in this is the civil war of the HAG groups is basically over the only last remaining cell is the Sheikh ali dhere cell in daynile and his affiliates in ceelbuur. The rest of the HAG line behind President Hassan. Consequently creating proxy to hurt Mogadishu led government will be a very difficult Mission. See Puntland interest is very simple to swift the power away from Mogadishu to Puntland and to have enormous leverage in Mogadishu. The HAG community who lacked allot of cohesive structure with in their clan dynamics. Gave Cabdilahi yusuf and the former Puntland elites to play on the grievances of the Mogadishu elites which gave Cabdilahi Yusuf and the former elites of PL a head start and to become the leaders of Mogadishu. Detoore you are forgetting the position you are in , You are a region of Somalia u might be autonomous , but the capital is in the south the embassies the government is in the south the strength, the resources of Somalia and its demographics are in the south, you have no major assets in Puntland , the oil factor if you had Oil you could have used that to lord over the southerners and claim absolute aristocracy, but it wasnt meant to be i give you that you are very ambitious, but you have the odds against you as it currently stands Jubbaland is a great initiative,, to have you say in Kismayo and alliance with Nairobi was also a good strategy and to move your former leader Cumar cabdirashid there and make sure u have allies there and even the south western state Cabdilahi Yusuf started the alliance with the bay and bakool regions, but even the diplomacy between garowe and baydhabo is diminishing. On Jubbaland the Mogadishu elites made sure there wont be an autonomous state south of them. But a Jubba region under the jurisdiction of the SFG as the addis ababa agreement indicates even we in Turkey and in Djibouti spoke on this despite our difference between Somaliland and the Damuljadid led government we have a simple code, we wont support each other foes and supporting a Jubbaland state serves no once interest , well maybe Puntland. Puntland has no friends really politically in the region. Detoore Faroole understood how to play politics with the Mogadishu elites the message was Puntland First Federalism second , Somalia 3rd he repeatedly said many times Somalia needs Puntland but Puntland does not need Somalia, Faroole strategy was to befriend Somaliland and focus on creating a strong Puntland autonomous state and Jubbaland state, and sandwich Mogadishu cost what cost. His Historic visit to Kenya showed how far he was about to go. Cabdi Cawar simply has not the balls to play such politics he served mogadishu during the TFG and is trying to appease Mogadishu. Detoore as for Somaliland , Somaliland has not been better than this government , Somaliland during rayaale exhausted its efforts to convince Bantus in the African union but they are not courageous to take steps on this though they admit that SL case is unique in the African continent, Somaliland changed its strategy on achieving recognition, Economic diplomacy showing that Somaliland is a player in the region and that it deserves recognition and ofcourse the SL government opened talks with the Somali government the key point is that, SL gets what it wants whether its aid the special arrangement is perfect for SL,it fills the gap and the needs of SL with in its own objectives and goals from an economic point of view. Development and make sure that Somaliland comes first no matter what,, before anything. Aslong as the money directed to Somaliland is not channeled through Mogadishu Somaliland is fine , Britain and Denmark already gave bilateral aid to SL and the special arrangement is a package from the European union and directly falls into the Somaliland development fund, time is of the essence, the Talks with Somalia is in Somaliland benefit all we need to make sure that the talks don't take ages and they need to be cut in its time frame and the elephant in the room must be brought to the table. Somaliland is busy with many projects the Bollore port deal investment is one of them the Oil exploration program is another Somaliland business elites are even investing in the Grand renaissance dam of Ethiopia Which brings me to Ethiopia , Ethiopia is neither a friend nor a foe as it currently stands Ethiopia just wants to maintain the status quo in both Somalia and Somaliland it understands the grievances and the differences between Somalis in general in both Somalia and Somaliland or the Somalis in the Somali Kilil. The TPLF has studied the Somalis especially the late Prime Minister Meles zenawi clearly understood the political traditional and the divisive politics in the Somali peninsula. Ethiopia knows that Somaliland will never reach out is hand to Mogadishu aslong as Mogadishu claims Somaliland as part of their country. Ethiopia also knows that Mogadishu rather loses its balls than to support Somaliland independence bid. This difference keeps Ethiopian troops in Somalia and makes sure Somaliland govt tolerate Ethiopian influences in the region. Somaliland does not expect much from Ethiopia and they are not hostile towards Somaliland cause nor are they helpful. Somaliland interest is to make sure that Somaliland the Afro hashimite nation succeeds both economically Military and politically, and its doing pretty good the past few years and allot of progress has been made the new SL strategy works they changed the route to the end goal.
