Asalaama Alaikum Wr Wb As many of the sisters have already mentioned my ideal husband does not exist (either that, or I have yet to find him). When I turned 18 family members began asking "when will you be getting married?". In fact, I was asked the same question tonight by my uncle  . Right now I am not ready to take on the responsibilities of marriage, amongst many other things, I need to AT least secure a degree, as if I were to get married and my husband decided to leave, I would need to be in a position where I could financially take care of myself (or any children). I have already given a lot of thought to adoption, I know it is not the same as having your own children, lakiin it comes a close second. I must admit that I do not have a lot of faith in my Somali brothers, when I was in college wallahi sometimes I used shake my head with disgust and question whether these people would be the future of Somalia? Because from where I stood, Somalia did not seem to have a future. "At any rate, Wallahi if there was no obligation from Allah I would advocate non-marriage status-why would anyone with their right mind wants to take the risk" My point of view exactly Sophist walaal, why should any one risk their mental, financial, emotional stability on another individual???? Personally, I have enough trouble with my own family, thank you very much; I do not need someone else adding to them. (Am not implying that by getting married, the couple completely rely on each, it is not healthy, lakiin there is a certain degree of dependency). All said and done, marriage is what Allah (swt) has prescribed for us and Allah (swt) knows best; and so if I were ever to get married, my marriage would be based on compatibility, a brother who does not pray, for me personally is not acceptable, a husband should help me to increase my knowledge of Islam and help increase my imaan, if he does not add to me in any (useful) way, then there is not point in pursuing the relationship any further (of course diin is not my only requirement, but is number one on my priority list). Ma'Salaama

Salaams & Ramadan Kariim Well I'll try to answer some of your questions as best as I can (mind you I haven't been able to sleep and its 4.00am so bare with me). "Can someone know the whole truth?" Well, before we can answer that question, we firstly have to define truth and truth is defined as "justified true belief", meaning something can be true to you as long as you are able to JUSTIFY your belief. In the world of philosophy, most say that someone alone can not know the whole truth, there are too many variables and strategies for defining truth, but as long as you can justify it, then it automatically becomes true to you. For example, how do we know the world is round and not flat? Have you ever seen the world from outer space? If we can't see it, touch it, smell it...how do we know that the world is actually round? These may have been proved to us by rules of correspondence, however if we observe something, does it automatically become true? Observations depend on sensation and perception and in life, there are two certain things, two truths, we are born and that we die. "Can it be really exactly same as what was truth." Again, if you can justify it, and have evidence to support your claim it becomes true to you. "How do you know it's the hole truth? It's just some words past to another and then another. How do u know it has a merit by the time u get that truth." This is where belief comes in, if you mentally accept something and your conviction in it is strong, and again can justify it, it becomes the truth. In one of my lectures last week, our Professor asked us, "how do we know we are all here? How do we know that this is not all a trick played on us by our minds and that the people we see are all figments of our imagination and that in fact, we are all alone?" This is because we have precieved a world beyond ourselves (empirical world) and we assumed to have a material basis/existance and as long as we are consistent in our perception, there is an external world beyond us and that is our belief, it is justified through the laws of perception. Now in the context of religion...if we want to know the truth, just look in the quran and it has already been laid out for us by Allah (swt) ...there are things that Science has only discovered in the last century (20th) and have been in the Quran for more then 1400 years!

Salaams I thought I was over you, I guess I thought wrong. Everything was going good, Better than I thought it would. Then you had to come along with your sweet smile, I never realized how much I missed your style. You asked me how I was doing and gave me a big hug I stood there surprised and answered with a shrug. Life was easier when you said you didn't care, Now I'm a wreck, life isn't fair. You've hurt me so many times before, and the sad thing is am letting you do it once more

Salaams I no longer know that woman I see in the mirror, staring back at me she’s not someone I would like to know her eyes are shaded by a haunted glow I ask her "who am I, if I'm not me" she looks back, eyes empty makeup on, hair done, time to go the facade complete, everything just so. Her friends never hear her sighs of regret that is something they will never get and they will never really see the woman in the mirror, the real me

Asalaamu Alaikum I’m my own worst enemy and the world is no friend Who can I look up to? On whom can I depend? In my mind, my life has begun a downward, spiraling trend In my heart I feel a pain you could never comprehend In my life I’m under constant assault but feel no need to defend Through my eyes I see hypocrisy and hate, Some try to explain with no desire to relate I’m under your constant scrutiny Placed on thin ice as you wait for me to fall through None of these things are new to me But still I fail to do what I know is just and true It’s my choice not to succeed, but I still sense your control You could never hurt me physically, what you damage is my soul...

Salaams lol mizz alpha my sentiments...every sense I was young I always HATED WEDDINGS and I vowed I would never have a big wedding myself...you'd be lucky if you get £500 from me...I'd rather go to Hajj (insha Allah) buy a beautiful car...take a holiday or put the money aside for a rainy day... I've seen a Somali spend up to £20,000 on a wedding in England...and it wasn't even that great....the next week I heard peeps bad mouthin the couple. Anyways everyone is diff...whateva floats your boat I say...ain't like you can force your ideas on other peeps.

Salaams Beautiful poem harmony...Abortion seems to be more and more accepted in the society we live in...in England abortion is made illegal after a fetus reaches 24 weeks (becomes considered a person)...but what is the baby is 23 ...life does not seem to have a meaning...Anywayz...I just wanted to add my thoughts... A tiny life, just barely begun A little baby, won’t see the sun It’s up to her, she's made her choice But doubt sits heavy in her my voice Tiny fists, clenched so tight She wonders "Is what I am doing right?" Miniscule feet, sit up above This little child, conceived by love... The metal tube, so long and thin It sucks the life from deep within A tiny life, will never see day And she, the mother, just walks away....

Salaams lol sweet gal I think you've startd a great topic and well done to Pixie for her contributions...I really enjoyed the first poem....well here is my attempted...the title was kinda difficult lol A Symphony in Green Near a spring, in a meadow of green a girl sits alone with her memories, as the white organdy dress floats in the breeze and the sweet perfume of orange blossoms mingle around her like honeysuckle’s in the wind. Softly her long brown hair blows in the wind, distracting her with thoughts of a love she longs deeply for in all her dreams. Sounds like music of a great symphony play across her mind as she holds her book tightly to her breast, sighing as sweet thoughts drift to her love who flies around the world and fights a war. She wonders if he thinks of her in times of rest. Will their love stand times test? Will memories branded in meadows of green on a warm summers eve become a misty memory? She'll return to this place on a hill listening for his voice in the wind longing to touch his lips again, tenderly praying, God once more, let love be. Title of next peom PARASITE

Salaams Whether we like it not, qabiil will always remain part of who we are Allah (swt) said in the Holy Quran to use qabiil "so that you may know each other". However, the way Somalis using it, killing a particular person because of what Allah swt made them is completely wrong. I completely agree with Afrikan Theory and Ameenah "This theme of "qabiil is what destroyed our country," that's been circulating around lately is really pathetic. The Somali Republic as we knew it was NOT destroyed by qabiil or qabiils. It was destroyed by ignorance." Many people claiming that they were done wrong by the "xamariis" during the Barre regime, but what many fail to remember is that Barre was Darood and that before he attacked Hargeysa he killed his own people (other daroods- the ********* ) because they attempted a counter revolution. The problem with Souther Somalia now is that it is the ****** that are killing each other (sub clans, the Habar gidir and Abgaal i think). They from the same qabiil, yet they are killing each other till this very day. And as Ayoub said, qabiil could be used to do good... Ma'salaamah

Is it Wrong to say,I'm from SomaliLand and Somalia?

You know what Baby Gurl am a sista thats confused as well. ************************ ************************************************** ********************** ************************** *********************** ********************** ********************EDITED NO QABIIL TALK HERE PLEAAAAASE ******************* *********************************************************************** ******************* ************************************. I wasn't raised in Somalia nor was I born there...as my mother raised me, I speak like her (koonfur dialect) and when ever my dad introduces to one of my adeers or my cousins, I dont have a clue what they saying because I don't understand them. Yet I don't feel like, speak like them...either way I look at it I find myself confused. Am I supposed to go saying to people am half Somalilander and Half Somali????? lol To Ameena sister, I find myself disagreeing with you. "to non Somalis I am a Somali but to Somalis I prefer using the term Somalilander." Somaliland is a country seeking independence thus breaking any links it has with Souther Somalia. Puntland is doing the same. The way I see it, if you telling other Somali people you are a Somalilander, then you might as well say the same to other non Somalis. A couple of months ago a friend of mine (non Somali) told me she went to a bookstore and asked the owner if he was Somali, but he replied with no I am a Somalilander. I think if you are with the whole independence thing then you should refer to yourself as Somalilander through and through. lol@ Somaliland Queen you posted "If your from somaliland then you say your from there and if your from somalia you say your from somalia what is hard you understand." But your post was undermined by you quote "united we stand and divided we fall". Shouldn't we as Somali people stand united as we share the same religion, culture, looks etc. being united would enable us to share our country's resources (although limited they are). The problem with the north is that it only has one major port, united would ensure the use of the ports in the south of the country, enabling much needed medical and food supplies to come into the country quicker. United we would have a better chance against an invading country...(we might be the next on the hit list of the Americans terrorist list). But thats a whole other issue.
