Man, I bet whoever starts a Somali Language 101 course will make some ca$h huh. Basically the poster wrote - What happened to the Somali youth? Why are they acting and talking like the Adoons (presumably Afro Americans)? Its odd. Have they no other way to talk? To the poster - I sag my pants and talk like a rap star. I do other things that I won't mention here. But the bottom line is, whatever I do is a preference. I recognize it reflects on the community in a negative light, but hey, it's my life. You older goons are the ones that forced us to flee our country to begin with, so before you judge us and how we act, judge yourself and ask yourself why you brought us here! Af soomaali - Waxaan suubiyo iyo sidaan u labisto waa hawl ii taalo. Intaad su'aashaas na waydiinleheed, waxaad adiga is waydiisa wixii wadankeena naga soo cayriye oo qurbaha na keene. Taas waa dadka waa wayn, adoo kale. Markaan qurbaha naa keenteen kadib baad calaacalaysaan. hehe I know that was a weak translation but I was in third grade in Somalia before the war. Peace

Wonderful stuff, if I was a White male! C'mon now man, this is clearly directed at White people. Co-habitation? I just don't see how this relates to us, Somalis, man. Perhaps add a minor anecdote to the effect that this is useful to us Somalis in what way? Peace

Definitely Hibo and Shaqsii had excellent lists. The people with the geographic meaning for being Somalis must've missed the question. Anyways, being a Somali to me is synonomous with being a refugee. I don't think anyone mentioned that, yet..

I don't get why you people even respond. Most of you girls never went on a date to begin with. Now you acting like you've dated OTHER races! looooooooooooool classic!

Social Debate: The Somali Single Mothers phenomenon

Shayma - It's really not worthwhile to take things out of context. It was a simple analogy. If you don't like it, go play with you're teddy bear. -
Arabs are dispicable. Somalis are *********** ******** *********. You figure out the astros!
-
somealien - Great point. Black men are getting with White women to climb up the social ladder. But also to get at and obtain something that was denied to them for centuries. But still I do think that Black women are ugly. I mean the good looking ones have to be mixed with something or use way too much make-up just to look half as good as their competition. Besides, more than anything else, they have self-loathing, which is a dangerous way to live. Peace.

Have we BECOME hypocrits? Try this: Have we CONTINUED being hypocrits? Somalis have been hypocrits, including myself, for as long as I've known them, which is roughly over 209 years But the parents that are proud of their kids not being able to speak the Somali language are purely ignorant and don't deserve words on this Forum. Our language is priority, especially since we're living on foreign territory. Take for instance the thread about Somalis being better than Arabs. I'm sure they're better than Arabs, Westerners, Blacks, etc. Why? Because of our oversized egos. Somalis have very little to be proud of. Even Sierra Leonne is better than Somalia because AT LEAST they have a functioning, internationally recognized government. That's a step forward towards progress. We've been hypocrits and we are hypocrits. Period.

I think its both. Black women are ugly AND that Black men want to take possession of and invade the property that for ever 300 years White men have denied them. Oppression is really a bummer. The thing about Thomas Jefferson - How is one single example supposed to place credibility on an entire argument? Its obvious that more Black men date and marry White women than White men marrying or dating Black women. Besides, by the time TJ was banging his Black slave mistress, his wife had aged and her performance in the sack wasn't quite as appealing as the younger Black woman!

THIS TOPIC MIGHT CHANGE YOUR LIFE

Nasteexo - Its a noble idea to start such a group. You've got the support of the realist. However, its not a good idea to look for support over the Net because the likes of (names omitted) find freedom behind a screen to degrade everything positive because they're missing positivity in their own lives. Either way, if you want a revolution, the best approach is grassroots. Like you said, in Europe, if this thing is real, then it'll cross the mighty oceans and reach its way globally. Either way, keep up the good work and "Harlem shake these groupies off you quick.." -

A retarded question deserves an even more retarded answer, no? The sky is green on weekends and red on holidays. Cheers, kids!

Social Debate: The Somali Single Mothers phenomenon

The difference is simple: I would take new clothes over used ones ANYDAY. No offense to the garoobs in the Forum! -
Um, I suppose no one's noticed the irony yet. Man of Wisdom - With a nick like yours, I expected you to shine these forums with exactly what you claim to be in possession of: wisdom. I wonder where the wisdom is in spreading typical, sophomoric cliches about the differences amongst the genders. Oops, I forgot this is the Internet. Let's all claim things. I claim to be from Planet Rap where everyone raps and is a superstar with money, girls and cheddar. How lovely.

lol@sue and that single mother comment looool This is a no brainer tho. No man wants an aging bimbo when he can find a younger one with a firmer body. Marriage age should be when the woman chooses but she knows the market gets tougher as she gets older. So cut the "you men are pigs" speech and speak in accordance with reality. That's real talk.

MY FAVORITE - "If you fart consistently for 6 years and 9 months, enough gas is produced to create the energy of an atomic bomb." looooooooooooooooooooool Man that was a classic! I wonder if Saddam Hussien knew about this? lol And I also wonder how they figured that one out   ? Anyways, that was funny!

BARWAAQO - Way to live up to you're nick! For once a thread that sheds a positive light in Somali gender relations. HACKER, Mr or Ms - You must've woken up on the wrong side of the bed! I don't see the point of inflating our minds with more negativity in the one thread that spreads a positive message. Besides, "honor killings" aren't considered a "crime" to some. If they were a "crime" to the perpertrators, then the word "honor" would certainly disappear wouldn't it? I think its unfair to judge others' cultural values n heritage by the standards of you're own. Anyways, BARWAAQO, good message!
-
Nin Yaaban - I think you forgot to name the source you've copy & pasted from. Here: Source: Somalia: A Country Study, 1993. Anyways, the Ogaden War of 1977-8 was a complete misjudgement on the part of the Somali government. We should've been more concerned for internal development than pursuing risky wars, using an ideologistic perspective. Cause if one were to think about it, the Ogaden War was simply a war fought to save the Somalis who were under foreign rule. It failed miserably and it can be argued that its because of the lost war that ultimately led to the fall of the Somali nation-state.

CM - Great point! QUOTE: "Islamic culture is not synonymous with Arab culture and pursuing an Islamic culture does not mean embracing Arab cultures/subcultures as you've stated." POSITIVE - I've yet to see a Somali person who looks at Arabs and their culture as sort of the "symbol" that Somalis and Somalia should follow. Perhaps, if you limited you're label at "Islam oriented," you'd be able to find many under that category.

lol@pulling our legs ha ha ha I swear y'all keep gettin' funnier! Continental Airlines, I already said no hard feelings kid but you seem to have been offended, so let me try the Somali version of "ma bad, homie." Xaal qaado - Bur iyo sambuus at my house, next week!
-
SXB - Continental Airlines, homie, no hard feelings! The rest of you back up singers, EAT MY SHORTS

Ayan Hersi Ali aka the self-titled Somali or modern day Salman Rushdie is a pathetic excuse for a human. If she can't see a distinction between her personal life and the lives of 1.5 billion Muslims across the globe, then she truly is beyond pathetic. AND she certainly has points but Islam was, is, and WILL NEVER be a backward religion. OPINIONATED's support for this lady doesn't suprise me at all. I mean it was OPINIONATED who claimed that some of us (on SOL or perhaps the general Somali population) are "as backwards as our parents." You'll find this quote under the post "Somalis Fear Children will Falsely Claim Abuse." Beauty of the Internet: everyone has a Ph.D.!
