  2. This guy is nuts! ------------------- Jackson stirs controversy in UAE ooooops! Rock star Michael Jackson has stirred a small controversy in the United Arab Emirates by entering the ladies room in a shopping mall. His publicist said Jackson, who arrived in Dubai this week as the guest of a champion rally driver, did not understand the Arabic sign on the door and left the bathroom as soon as he realised his mistake. But local newspapers reported that the 47-year-old performer was spotted applying make-up in the women's toilets in a Dubai mall. Jackson's host, Mohammed bin Sulayem, dismissed the story as rumour. "Upon his exit, he was recognised and a crowd ensued. He had to wait in a nearby bookstore until police arrived to escort him through the crowd," the statement said.

  4. procastination is a deadly habit. habits can be learned and un-learned, so there is still hope for those of us who suffer from this disease. the best way I found to eliminate it is to break it down and write it down. "Kill the monster while it is young"
  5. Xiin, why isn't murdoch in the list? Originally posted by Castro: ^ Muhammad, all things considered, Friedman is the lesser of many evils. Though he is conservative and was for the invasion of Iraq, I think he is still better than the likes of William Safire. The latter is a genius of words and a snake of ideas. I sent him enough venomous emails these past 3 years to make me feel good. I don't even read the NY Times anymore. What rubbish! isn't that 'snake' retired? yet? true, i hate to admit, but Friedman is somewhat 'likeable'
  6. If their faces are not 'Awra, who can claim that their voice is 'Awra? In brief, what the fuqaha’ have said about women’s voices is that they are not ‘awrah in and of themselves, and there is nothing wrong with listening to them when there is a need to do so, so they do not forbid listening to them, but certain conditions apply, as followsp an online fatwa on the subject

  10. It is an story I always enjoy reading, JZK brother Shams. Abdullah bin Mas`ud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "I know of the last of the inhabitants of the Hell to be taken out from there and the last one to enter Jannah. He is a man who will come out of the Fire, crawling on all fours. Allah, the Rubb of glory and honour will say to him: `Go and enter Jannah.' He will go to it and think that it is full up. He will then come back and say: `O my Rubb, it is full up.' Allah will say to him: `Go and enter Jannah.' He will again go to it and think that it is full up. So he will turn back. Allah will again say: `Go and enter Jannah. For you have what is equal to ten times the world.' He will say: `Are You making fun of me while You are the King?'' At this I (i.e., the narrator) saw the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) laugh till his premolars were visible and he said, "Such man will be the last dweller of Jannah in its lowest rank.'' [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
  11. the charges don't look as bad as I feared, _________________________________________ Wednesday, November 16, 2005 Leader of area mosque arrested by U.S. agents Terrorism task force grabs Somali native, but immigration cited By JOHN IWASAKI SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER The respected leader of a Rainier Valley mosque was arrested Monday on an immigration charge, surprising those who knew his work in Seattle's Somali community. Federal agents with the Joint Terrorism Task Force arrested Abu Abrahim Sheik Mohamed at Sea-Tac Airport as he got off a domestic flight, federal criminal justice sources said. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman Lorie Haley said only that Mohamed, 37, was "in custody on immigration violations" and is being held at the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma. She declined to specify what immigration regulations Mohamed is accused of having violated. While he is being held only on the immigration violations, the Joint Terrorism Task Force is continuing its investigation, a source said. Mohamed, a native of Somalia, has led prayers as the imam of Abu-Bakr Mosque for the past five years. The mosque originally was on Rainier Avenue South but moved earlier this year to a simple building on Martin Luther King Jr. Way South. "I know the man. I'm shocked to hear that (he was arrested), if he's the one I have in mind," said Hisham Farajallah, president of the Islamic Center of Washington. Farajallah said Mohamed, whom he saw at the end of the recent Islamic holy month of Ramadan, has a green card and is a legal U.S. resident. Several Somali immigrants expressed surprise Tuesday after hearing of Mohamed's arrest, saying the imam was well regarded in the community for his counsel on a wide range of family issues. "He is a leader for all the Somali community, not just for the mosque," Hassan Nur said as he arrived at the mosque for midafternoon prayer. Nur and a man named Ali said that Mohamed would solve "99 percent" of the problems brought to him, helping people with questions related to marriage, parenting, addictions and youths. They said Mohamed even started a summer program at the mosque to keep youths off the street and out of trouble. "I've never heard of him doing anything wrong," Nur said. Mohamed is "a wise man in every aspect," said Mohamed Abdi, president of Somali Community Services of Seattle. Nur said he heard that Mohamed was returning from Dallas when he was arrested. Another man traveling with Mohamed was not detained but was told that the imam was going to be "held for a few hours," Nur said. Mohamed has been the only imam at the mosque, which started six years ago without a prayer leader. Though open to Muslims of all national origins, the mosque is used mostly by Somalis. In November 2004, the Joint Terrorism Task Force arrested 14 people at about a dozen Seattle-area locations, including a business one block from the original location of Abu-Bakr Mosque. Among those arrested in the November 2004 raids was Karim Abdullah Assalaam, who told an FBI informant that "his whole Muslim crew" is involved in an ongoing bank fraud scheme for personal gain and because "you can't go to war broke," court documents say. In a tape-recorded conversation about guns, Assalaam told the informant, "I just want to die a Shaheed," which he defined as a martyr "who dies in the cause of Allah." Assalaam is to be sentenced next month after acceding to a federal plea agreement. The agreement has been kept secret. P-I reporter Paul Shukovsky contributed to this report. 15. Toobaa Lil-Ghurabaa! JZK sis Simply_I, and welcome to Somaliaonline. I love the nasheed - ghurabaa ghurabaa, I'll see if I can find it online. So, if the believer whom Allah has blessed with wisdom and knowledge wants to tread upon this path, the path of Allah, then let him be prepared to resign himself to the life of a stranger among his people, just like his predecessors who accepted Islam were treated by the people. For indeed, he will be a stranger in his beliefs, because his people have corrupted their beliefs. He will be a stranger in his religion, due to what the people have done to it. He will be a stranger in his manner of praying, because the people are ignorant of the prayer of the Prophet (peace be upon him). He will be a stranger in his ordering of good and prohibiting evil, for the people have taken what is evil as good and they have abandoned what is good as evil. In short, then, he will be a stranger in all his matters of this world and the Hereafter, calling to the path of Allah and withstanding the harm of all those that go against him. brings tears to my eyes. that was the way of the Anbiyaa, including Muhammad(pbuh) in the early years.

  18. U.S. official admits phosphorus used as weapon in Iraq Last Updated Wed, 16 Nov 2005 05:31:27 EST CBC News A spokesman for the U.S. military has admitted that soldiers used white phosphorus as an "incendiary weapon" while trying to flush out insurgents in the northern Iraqi city of Fallujah last year. "White phosphorus is a conventional munition. It is not a chemical weapon. They are not outlawed or illegal," Lieut.-Col. Barry Venable told the British Broadcasting Corporation. He added that though used mostly to provide smokescreens and flashes of light, in the Fallujah battle, "it was used as an incendiary weapon against enemy combatants." High-ranking American officials had earlier insisted that the substance, which can burn to the bone when it comes into contact with skin, was used only to help illuminate battle scenes. "U.S. forces do not use napalm or white phosphorus as weapons," the American ambassador to London, Robert Tuttle, wrote in a letter to the Independent newspaper. * FROM NOV. 8, 2005: 'We will be successful,' Rumsfeld warns Fallujah insurgents An unknown number of Iraqi women and children died of phosphorus burns during the hostilities, Italian documentary makers covering the battle for Fallujah have claimed. Other reporters on the scene have said U.S. forces used a combination of white phosphorus and explosives known as "shake 'n' bake." Venable's comments could expose the United States to allegations that it has been using chemical weapons in Iraq. The suspicion that former president Saddam Hussein was developing chemical weapons, as well as biological and nuclear ones, was one of the Bush administration's main justifications for the 2003 invasion of the Persian Gulf country.
  19. US troops used white phosphorus as a weapon in last year's offensive in the Iraqi city of Falluja, the US has said. "It was used as an incendiary weapon against enemy combatants," spokesman Lt Col Barry Venable told the BBC - though not against civilians, he said. The US had earlier said the substance - which can cause burning of the flesh - had been used only for illumination. BBC defence correspondent Paul Wood says having to retract its denial is a public relations disaster for the US. Col Venable denied that white phosphorous constituted a banned chemical weapon. Washington is not a signatory to an international treaty restricting the use of the substance against civilians. The US state department had earlier said white phosphorus had been used in Falluja very sparingly, for illumination purposes. Col Venable said that statement was based on "poor information". 'Incendiary' The US-led assault on Falluja - a stronghold of the Sunni insurgency west of Baghdad - displaced most of the city's 300,000 population and left many of its buildings destroyed. Col Venable told the BBC's PM radio programme that the US army used white phosphorus incendiary munitions "primarily as obscurants, for smokescreens or target marking in some cases. "However it is an incendiary weapon and may be used against enemy combatants." And he said it had been used in Falluja, but it was a "conventional munition", not a chemical weapon. It is not "outlawed or illegal", Col Venable said. He said US forces could use white phosphorus rounds to flush enemy troops out of covered positions. "The combined effects of the fire and smoke - and in some case the terror brought about by the explosion on the ground - will drive them out of the holes so that you can kill them with high explosives," he said. San Diego journalist Darrin Mortenson, who was embedded with US marines during the assault on Falluja, told the BBC's Today radio programme he had seen white phosphorous used "as an incendiary weapon" against insurgents. However, he "never saw anybody intentionally use any weapon against civilians", he said. 'Particularly nasty' White phosphorus is highly flammable and ignites on contact with oxygen. If the substance hits someone's body, it will burn until deprived of oxygen. Globalsecurity.org, a defence website, says: "Phosphorus burns on the skin are deep and painful... These weapons are particularly nasty because white phosphorus continues to burn until it disappears... it could burn right down to the bone." A spokesman at the UK Ministry of Defence said the use of white phosphorus was permitted in battle in cases where there were no civilians near the target area. But Professor Paul Rodgers, of the University of Bradford's department of peace studies, said white phosphorus could be considered a chemical weapon if deliberately aimed at civilians. He told PM: "It is not counted under the chemical weapons convention in its normal use but, although it is a matter of legal niceties, it probably does fall into the category of chemical weapons if it is used for this kind of purpose directly against people." When an Italian TV documentary revealing the use of white phosphorus in Iraq was broadcast on 8 November it sparked fury among Italian anti-war protesters, who demonstrated outside the US embassy in Rome.
