IRIN - Friday, September 19, 2003 Regional suspicion of Somalia's expansionist dreams has been cited as a drawback in that country's peace efforts. Retired President Daniel Moi said that at independence, Somalia was claiming parts of Djibouti, Kenya and Ethiopia and initiating armed conflicts to try and realise this dream. Its neighbours feared that a reunited and prosperous nation might resurrect Somalia's territorial claims. Mr Moi, who was speaking at the American Defence University in Washington, said the bitter disagreements and conflicts in Sudan began soon after independence in 1956. He warned that unstable countries without organised and functional systems might be fertile grounds for terrorism. On the East African Community, Mr Moi told his hosts that by November this year, the three member states hoped to sign a customs union to integrate their economies. "It is the dream of East Africans that after integrating their economies, negotiations will begin for an East African Federation, which will ultimately take in Rwanda and Burundi," he said. Mr Moi thanked the assistant secretary of state for African Affairs, Mr. Walter Kansteiner and a former US Ambassador to Kenya, Mr. Johnnie Carson for the facilitation of his current visit to the U.S. The former head of state had earlier held lengthy discussions with Mr. Kansteiner at the state department headquarters.

Originally posted by YACQUUB: ok let me break down the question for you is Islam the solution of our problem? And if yes how can it be put in practice in our country with all these differences? i hope this clear for all. Asalaamu Alaykum! To answer the first part of your question: As Muslims we believe that the solution to every problem can be found in the Qur'aan and the Sunnah of the Prophet(pbuh). Islam is the religion of light, it guides us to enjoin what is right, forbid what is wrong and to believe in Allah. If the Somali people acted upon their religion, its teachings, forbade and stayed away from what it prohibits, they would without a doubt be among the successful both in this world and in the hearafter. You asked a very important question: how can we put this cure into practice in our motherland. I believe they best way is to encourage our people to put their faith into practice. A Muslim is not only a noun it is also a verb, to become a Muslim one has to put his faith into action, he must 'Do' what his faith commands, and 'Forbid' what it prohibits. Our people love their religion, we are very proud of it, and most of us follow it the best way they can or know. There are many people in our country who love to follow ther religion but know very little of it, they can't read, they don't have people to guide them, so they practice they best way they can. Here are is a list of what I think should be done in order for Islamic Parties to succeed in Somalia: 1. Form a Political Parties outside the Masjid. 2. Promote Education - less than 30% of Somalis can read and write. That is a very sad. These parties should promote knowledge, both Islamic and the Sciences are important. 3. Fund & Build public services such as; Hospitals, Schools, Masjids Wells, shelters, iwm. They need to win the hearts and minds of the people. They are the servents of their people - so they must serve them. I think if these three things are done, If the people of knowledge, unite themseves, establish a political party that calls people to unity, justice, and development they will succeed. Maybe not in a short-time, but in the long run they will. If they sell their seeds of peace and prosperity to the four winds they will be successful.

Pakistan - Chinese: JF-17 Aircraft Ready For Maiden Flight Next Week ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Aug 31 (PNS) - Pakistan indigenously manufactured JF-17 fighter aircraft with the Chinese cooperation is set for its maiden flight within next three or four days. With the launching of this aircraft Pakistan has achieved yet another mile-stone in defence production. Briefing newsmen chief Project Manager Air Vice Marshal Shahid Lateef said JF-17 thunder is light weight all weather and multi-role aircraft. In the surface attack and interdiction role the aircraft will be capable of striking at long distances. He said JF-17 will have capability of carrying short range, beyond visual range and anti-ship as well anti-radiation missiles in addition to carrying of high and low drag bombs, laser guided bombs, runway penetration bombs and cluster bombs. Comparing the JF-17 and the light combat aircraft (LCA) of India, Air Vice Marshal Shahid Lateef said both the aircrafts have compatible performance and combat potential, however, the FJ-17 has an edge over LCA in Aviancs technology. He said India has so far invested 1.5 billion dollars on LCA while the total development cost of JF-17 is only four hundred fifty million dollars. The serial production of the aircraft will begin by January 2006. Talking to newsmen on the occasion, the Air Chief Air Marshal Kaleem Saadat said the manufacturing of JF-17 is a new milestone in the defence history of the country. He said this aircraft will replace in future, the Mairaj, F-16 and F-7 aircrafts with the latest technology and it will meet professional requirements of the PAF. The Air Chief said resources are being explored to equip the Pakistan Air Force with the latest technology to meet any challenge in the future. He said the Pakistan Air Force is fully capable to fully respond any eventuality. He said PAF is maintaining highest safety standards and its record is much better as compared to India. He said among the existing PAF aircraft, the performance of JF-17 could only be matched by JF-16 and in some respects in would be better than JF-16. The End ::: Source : paknews.com

Originally posted by Ibtilo: Federalism wont work, you know why? Because Somaliland doesnt want anything to do with Somalia. Somaliland is and was a country, and a country and people who dont want nothing to do with SOmalia, Ibtilo [/QB] Interesting! Ibtilo, can you tell me about the history of the country that was Somaliland, first where did it get its name, 'Somaliland?' as far as I know, the majority of the people in somaliland don't speak English! I also want to know if the people of Somaliland don't want anything to do with somalia and other somalis, why do you still call yourself Somali, If being Somali is such a shameful thing and you don't want anything to do with us, why do you still call yourself somali_land? I also want to ask you who can become a citizen of Somaliland? If my english is correct, Somali_Land means, 'Dulkii Somalida or the land of the Somali people' Then aren't All Somalis citizens of Somaliland? Or is it that only certain tripes can become a citizen of this country? you asked: My question is , dont people from Somalia have any other topic to talk about other tha Somaliland? Salad dressing man cant seem to get it off his head. All the warlords cant seem to breath without sqweeking out Somaliland every once and awhile. What is it? Jealousy? Hate? when you first read this topic, can you show me where you saw, 'Somaliland'? the topic was about a vision to create a better Somalia for the Somali people! and since you already stated that Somaliland is and was a country who doesn't want anything to do with Somalia and the Somali people, why are you here, in SOL? why are you in this topic? because I see a contradiction here! If you don't want to be a Somali, it is up to you, just leave our 'somali' garments with us! Please explain these things for me, Who are the people you represent?

» Asalamu Alaykum, Akhi Nur Masha'Allah, Jazakallahu Khayr, Weli ma aan dhamayn Akhriskii, Insha'Allah I'll comment on it when I finish it! Haday Umadeenu isku xukhumilahayd Sharciga Eebe, meeshaynu joogno maanta ma joogneen! Very Interesting topic! I have been studying the PLA lately, I'm a member of China-Defence.com, a very good place to learn the tactics and strategies of the chinese military forces! I think pretty soon the chinese will catch up with the U.S. The only problem I think they have, is their Ideology, This may be the only thing that causes them trouple in the long run. The Pakistan-China relations is also a very interesting especially for the Muslim World. Israel has tried many times to create fiction and trouple between the arab-&-muslim world, it is one of their greater missions. They have already allied themselves with the Hindu-natinalists in India today! The only thing we, as Muslims should watch and becareful of is the situation is Eastern Turkmenistan(Xinjiang Province) where the Uygur Chinese Muslims live in! There have been some prosecutions of Muslim there, and that is also where China tests its nuclear, chemical an biological weapons, close the border of Kyrgyzstan.

lol interesting I can be your Minister of Mukhabarat and Minister of Jihad! my mision: the re-unification of the Somali people and the creation of a Somali Empire(khilafat) in East Africa!

Originally posted by rudy: conquest: u went to dictionary.com and found the 2 items you listed. u see an ideology is a human made system like capitalism, socialism etc., however, if you would have pluged-in the word religion, you will see following which is much different than what u posted!! here it goes!! "Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe. A personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship. The life or condition of a person in a religious order. A set of beliefs, values, and practices based on the teachings of a spiritual leader. A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion." to me, there is clear difference between ideology and religion. salamaad I did not say Islam is not a religion, I said Islam is more than a Religion, 'It is a Way of Life' If you don't believe that Islam is an Ideology, what is the Ideology of the muslims? btw: It doesn't matter if I went to dictionary.com, but isn't capitalism a doctrine or beliefs of a economic system, isn't socialism a body of ideas reflecting the social needs and aspirations of a people? or do you believe only man made things can be an Ideology?

Originally posted by rudy: my brother conquest: islam is not an idealogy!! its a religion. there is a big difference between idealogy and religion bra! Ideology: 1. The body of ideas reflecting the social needs and aspirations of an individual, group, class, or culture. 2. A set of doctrines or beliefs that form the basis of a political, economic, or other system. Are you saying Islam doesn't have Ideas reflecting the social needs of the community, or the doctrines and beliefs that form a political or economical systems? Islam - Is The Supreme Ideology! & every true Muslim knows that!
-
rudy - Islam is an Ideology, a perfect system - a way of live! The west doesn't want a new Ideology as powerful as Islam to emerge! And they will do anything to make sure it doesnt. Many people judge Islam by the actions of Everyone who calls him or herself a Muslim. That is a wrong idea, if you want to know the real Islam - read the Qur'an, And Sunnah!

yes sis I understand you! The Messenger of Allaah (saw) said: “The strong man is not the one who can overpower others (in wrestling); rather, the strong man is the one who controls himself when he gets angry.” very few people can do that!

Originally posted by rudy: Conquest: sorry may be i wasnt clear enough! i am totally against the sharia practiced today by fanatical ppl--like the incident that happen recently in Nigeria!! i hope u familiar with it. just how many guys would have met the same fate, i.e., committed adultry and paid the same price. 1000s would have been killed! remember 60% of married guys commit adultry! so it dont take no rock scientist to figure out why these fanatics only apply their form of sharia to women only. cuz they, themselves have dirty laundry to hide!! rudy the shariah is a very simple system, but difficult and complicated for people who do not have knowledge or understand its reasons. I don't know where you get your polls, but to say 60% of men commit adulty is not accurate, I'm asuming you are talking about the western world, but you can't use the same % for the Muslim Men! You make it seem like if there is Muslim Fanatical Conspiracy against women. I think you have been watching too much FOX news. The reason why you may think the Shariah is only targeting Women can simply be explained. The Islamic shariah calls for atlest four witnesses to prove guilt, and they should be people known to be honest and have not lied in the past. It is very difficult to find four witnesses, when adulty is the crime, unless people are commiting adulty in the streets. That is why there have been very few people killed because of adulty in the history of the shariah. The reason why more women where found guilty than men is because of pregnancy. If the women is not married and have not been raped and is pregnent, then the truth is she did commited adulty. This is very wide topic and needs alot of explaining and discussion I hope this clarified it for you a little bit. Allah(swt) knows best!

Gediid - do you think that it has something to do with the system not having 'copy rights'. There needs to be a reward - to motivate you to do something unique and new. I mean if others are going to become rich for something you work hard for, how you going to have the motivation to write another one. They need a new system that is consistent and has rules. They should have copy rights, and awards to modivate the artists!

Instinct-Poet I know exactly what you mean! "Maroodigu takarta isaga saaran ma arkee tan kuwa kale saaran buu arkaa" Miskin Akhi, I agree with you, Insha'Allah may all somali and muslim people wake up and bring honor and dignity to their people! Aplus you know that the songs, poems, stories are a way to express the current life and what people are facing at the time. It is especially important to the African people! so it is no suprise that our singers are still singing the same songs over and over again. That shows you that our society hasn't moved ahead like other societies! And even worse that that is how much our people forgot about poetry, especially the youth! I was listening to a somali author few weeks ago who went to Western Somalia, just to meet a 70 year old man who was the only man living who knew some poems from that region. He wrote 70 pages of poetry from this one man alone! He is a library! and many like him are dying, and our culture is going with them! The youth need to step up and take responsibilies! we need to help our our people, cause if we don't no one else will! Allah helps those that help themseves! AngelEyes sis I understand your frustration, and what it feels like sometimes to see no light at the end of the tunnel, but we must never loose hope! hope is all we have!

rudy, aren't you the same guy who said lets abolish the shariah?

Snipers They are the most hated and feared men in the battlefield! But Politicaly speaking, if you want to kill your enemy, you must do it in a way that your finger prints are no where near the kill. For Example, If Somalia is a state and wishs to Assasinate Meles Zenawi, she shouldn't shoot him in muqdisho. She should send her operatives to Eritrea, and kill him in the streets of Asmara!

Originally posted by juxa: conquest,,,,, HOWEVER, i totally resent the suldan's older son should be the title-holder. it is proven fact women are goodleaders, after all they lead a whole house, everyday like a swiss watch,,,,,PERFECT. and why do we have to suffer just cause we female,,,,,,whatever ali qaloocow can,,,,,,,we can do better. If a women wants to lead people and a society, there are alot of things that she has to sacrifice! most importantly is her family i.e. raising her children. It is not easy to be a Sultan(I know these days this title has been abused)but it isn't easy, especially for women. Like Mahmood Sayfu-d-Deen Qotoz said when he became the Sultan of Egypt, after growing up as a slave, and was about to face the armies of christendom from the west, and the armies of the monghuls from the east, when he was asked, 'how does it feel to be a king, after all these years being a slave?' he said: "then I was a servern to one muslim family, now I'm a servent for an entire Muslim Ummah"

salaam lucky! I'm sure most nomads have something to say on this issue! this question has been ocupaying my mind too long that I even wondered why haven't we assasinated some of these folks. Don't we have some snipers in here somewhere? here is another thing, altho I don't want to go of-topic, what's up with this strategy of shooting people in the middle of the day in the busiest street, infront of everybody, and then running away? Then killing a innocent man who never bothered anybody, just because you can't find his brother. This is Strange! atleast when you are going to kill someone, shoot him at night or hire a sniper or even put a copra in his bed! just don't shoot him in the middle of town and if you are brave enough to do it, then don't run away like a coward and have your innocent brother killed in your place!

» Asalamu Alaykum, fellow nomads o.k. I don't really like to start threads, but I had to ask this question. do you know the two type of somali people that never retire? Musicians and Politicians - it is true! since I think most of the nomads in here are mostly youth(shabab), doesn't this shame us? seasons change so do societies, societies should be like a moving river, always fresh and clean, but ours is a lake, same water until it dies out. I'm mainly talking about our political leaders, the same people who started the first revolution and regimes are still around leading us with a mind-set 50 years back. we often heard the saying, 'the youth are the leaders of tomorrow'. but there is also another saying that seems to reflect how our society deals with our youth, 'tomorrow never dies'. why haven't we seen revolutions take place in the past 13 years? where are the leaders of tomorrow? I don't know maybe there are some of my fellow nomads who had this in his/her mind and would like to share it with me. Let The Revolution Began!
