The point is they claim that their reason for secession is mistreatment by the Siad Barre regime and now they are saying, well Siad Barre wasn't that bad afterall.

Tensions high in Somaliland capital following violent riots 28 Apr 28, 2008 - 1:27:24 PM HARGEISA, Somalia Apr 28 (Garowe Online) - Police forces in the capital of Somalia’s separatist state of Somaliland clashed with hundreds of angry rioters on Sunday, prompting opposition parties to condemn the government for using “excessive force” against civilians. In a joint press communiqué, Somaliland opposition parties Kulmiye and UCID condemned the breakaway region’s government for the “ugly and excessive use of force against civilians,” adding that the episode showed the residents of Hargeisa that the “current government is more merciless than that of [former Somali President] Siad Barre.” The harsh criticism from the opposition parties was issued a day after Hargeisa police opened gunfire on rioters, who were reportedly burning tires and throwing stones at officers. At least two civilians were confirmed dead and more than 10 police officers wounded, sources told Garowe Online. Local newspapers reported that the protestors initially began their demonstration in opposition to the Hargeisa city council’s decision to add three new districts to the Somaliland capital and rename one district in the southern quarter of the city. But as more protestors joined the demonstration, rioting began and protestors expressed their dissatisfaction with a range of issues, from President Dahir Riyale’s controversial one-year term extension to the sky-high prices for food and gas. The rioters were eventually convinced to return to their homes after Air Transport Minister Ali Waranadde read aloud an official document signed by Interior Minister Abdullahi “Irro” Ismail. According to the Interior Minister’s letter, the Hargeisa city council’s decision to create three new districts was “illegal,” citing that the Interior Ministry was not informed before the decision was taken. But growing dissatisfaction with the Riyale administration is not limited to the public. On Monday, Hargeisa-based independent newspaper Jamhuuriya reported that lawmakers in the Somaliland parliament’s upper chamber, the House of Guurti, had “threatened each other with pistols.” A group of dissident House of Guurti legislators wanted to introduce a motion rescinding President Riyale’s one-year term extension, which was overwhelmingly approved by the House of Guurti earlier this month. [ READ: Somaliland Leader Gets Controversial Term Extension] But the acting chairman of the Guurti, Sheikh Ahmed Sheikh Nuh, told the dissident lawmakers that the motion will first have to be studied and approved by the House’s legal counsel before being debated on the parliament floor. His comment immediately sparked anger inside the parliament and eventually led to legislators throwing fists at each other. Outside parliament, legislators continued to exchange heated words regarding President Riyale’s term extension, a development that has generated public anger and condemnation from the opposition parties. One dissident legislator, MP Awil Hussein Ahmed, told Jamhuuriya that Second Deputy Speaker Said Jama Ali pulled a gun on him while at a hotel. “The parliament leaders are acting in such a way today that they pull a gun out on anyone who speaks [his mind],” MP Awil told Jamhuuriya. Somaliland, composed of Somalia's northwestern regions, unilaterally declared independence from the rest of the country in 1991 after a decade of armed struggle against the government of Somali dictator Siad Barre. No country has recognized Somaliland as an independent state, although the separatist republic has its own government, currency, flag and security forces. Source: Garowe Online

He is not obsessed with the idea of secession the same way u are. As he stated, he is for unity as long as the conditions are right. And that means to have an administration in place with the Moral Authority to win the admiration, respect, and loyalty of the Somali people. Kashafa, Horta bal ii sheeg, why do genuine Somali's who care about Somalia fight and die for the idea of Somalinimo, while people like Norf stand on the sidelines, waiting like naag duday oo sasabaad u baahan. Why should we fight for Somalia, why should we convince people like him? Why should we take this burden on ourselves? wadanka ma anaga kaliyaa iska leh? If we spill all this blood and sacrifice so many lives of our people why do we have to share with those that supported the enemy and those that stood on the sidelines? Mid kalena waxa weeye, if you are tolerating people like Norf to stand on the sidelines, why shouldn't every group in Somalia stand on the sidelines? Clearly standing on the sidelines and hinting the existence of Somalinimo has its advantages.

Just ask yourself how many people are locked up somewhere now? and then ask yourself how many Somali women oo tahriibaya ayaa meelahaas lagu helay, lagu dilay, ama ay dad u xidhan yihiin?

'Free Tibet' flags made in China Police in southern China have discovered a factory manufacturing Free Tibet flags, media reports say. The factory in Guangdong had been completing overseas orders for the flag of the Tibetan government-in-exile. Workers said they thought they were just making colourful flags and did not realise their meaning. But then some of them saw TV images of protesters holding the emblem and they alerted the authorities, according to Hong Kong's Ming Pao newspaper. Tibet independence The factory owner reportedly told police the emblems had been ordered from outside China, and he did not know that they stood for an independent Tibet. Workers who had grown suspicious checked the meaning of the flag by going online. Thousands of flags had already been packed for shipping. Police believe that some may already have been sent overseas, and could appear in Hong Kong during the Olympic torch relay there this week. Known as the Snow Lion Flag Introduced in 1912 Banned in mainland China The authorities have now stepped up the inspection of cars heading to the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and onwards to Hong Kong. The Olympic torch is due to tour Hong Kong on Friday. It will then travel to a series of cities in mainland China before reaching Beijing for the start of the Olympic Games in August. Its progress around the world has been marked by pro-Tibet demonstrations in several cities - including Paris, London and San Francisco. Rallies began in the main Tibetan city of Lhasa on 10 March, led by Buddhist monks. Over the following week protests spread and became violent - particularly in Lhasa, where ethnic Chinese were targeted and shops were burnt down. Beijing cracked down on the protesters with force, sending in hundreds of troops to regain control of the restive areas. But it has since agreed to resume talks with representatives of the Dalai Lama.

Originally posted by Kashafa: Me, At this juncture of Somali history, Secession is NOT an issue. It's NOT a problem. It's the last thing that should occupy your mind. If you've got a surplus of argumentative energy, then please use it to destroy the flimsy dhabo-dhilif arguments. Use it map a way forward for Somalia instead of accusing sincere brothers of hypocrisy. Northerner has showed more Somalinimo iya inoo ka damqado xasooqa than the loudest of the loudmouthed Somaliweyn'ist(many who gloat and cheer on). How do you like that ? He is not obsessed with the idea of secession the same way u are. As he stated, he is for unity as long as the conditions are right. And that means to have an administration in place with the Moral Authority to win the admiration, respect, and loyalty of the Somali people. An administration like the Islamic Courts of Somalia. An administration that has implemented social healing and the de-tribal'fication of Somalia. Even if Somaliland secedes and gets recognition(longest of long shots), that is NOTHING compared to the existential threat of the Ethiopian occupation. Yet u remain happy to prattle on about a completely theoretical possibility, all the while Somalia burns under the fire-torrent of Ethiopian aggression. Whats wrong with this picture, abti ? You have good intentions, laakin priorities aa kaa khaldan. Riyaale's dhabo-dhilif admin will be dealt with in due time, but there's the not-so-small matter of a Ethiopian occupation and their slaves that we have to deal with first. Kashafa, 1. Norf can speak his mind as he said it himself. If he believes in what you said, he can say it himself, no need to downgrade yourself to his spokesperson. I personally have never seen him distance himself from the secessionist idea. I have also never seen him support any kind of Somalinimo during all the time I spent on this forum. I have had plenty of discussions with him and he is consistent in his support for the secessionist idea. Marka I don't know where you got.... Northerner has showed more Somalinimo iya inoo ka damqado xasooqa than the loudest of the loudmouthed Somaliweyn'ist(many who gloat and cheer on) Maybe you are new to the word of the Somalis and you take whatever BS they say as the truth. Norf is practicing the same old my enemies enemy is my friend crap. Ta labaad, maxaa loo kala reebanayaa the enemies of the Somali nation? Are the secessionists better then the TFG supporters? Are the supporters of Dabageed better then the TFG supporters? How about those that support Puntland? Gowracaada yaa loo horeesiinayaa horta? My friend you should have one set of rules for all traitors, but I see that in your case some traitors are better then others Your vision is blurred Kashafa, open your eyes and see aduunyada aan ku nool nahay. I like your energy and spirit, but you need to slow down and learn. This is a long war and not everything is what it seems so choose your friends carefully. May god guide you.

Who should SL gain independance from? horta define indepedance for me.
-
Norf the Ethiopians control the TFG militarily, while the SL is controlled politically by the Ethios. You speak of 'independence' but independence from whom? You come here telling us that SL should become independent from Somalia, while SL is actually under Ethio domination. Why don't you advocate for the independence of the little corner your trying to carve up from the xabash? You do not want SL to become independent. You may say so. You may even believe you want it. But actually you’re facilitating the domination of SL by the Xabash. You point fingers at TFG supporters, while the entity you support does everything the xabash desires. The entity you support prostitutes itself on daily basis. Yet you are here, stubbornly defending it. You like pointing fingers at TFG supporters while you close your eyes from everything SL does. Maybe doing that eases your conscience.
-
Norf I asked you a question, that you still haven't answered. My question was: How is supporting the TFG a mental condition and supportying the secessionist cause not a mental condition. Explain that to me.

Well your hypocrisy doesn't cease, that’s why we go around in circles. As ever you have peanuts to offer. Put up or shut up as they. Well peanuts is all it takes to stop your hypocrisy. TFG supporters ayaad hadal la doonanaysaa adoo iyagoo kale ah.

my question was directed at Norf and his hypocracy. Abtigiis, what happened in the past happened and there is no way to turn back the time. But we are 17 years further now. Soomaali wey is taqaanaa maanta. So lets not pretend we are naive. Waaya arag ayaan noqonay . All I am saying here is, lets talk like brothers, lets resolve our differences in a peacefull manner, but lets not pretend we are fools. The mistakes of the past will not be made again. So in order for me to forgive there should be a genuine reconciliation. Hadii kale Soomaali ey aa cunay, ciyaartuna waa bandow. Soomaali hor u maraysaa ma jirto ilaa teeda la xaliyo. Hadii aad rabtidna taada waa lagu darayaa.
