I haven't really been progressing well with the hat, I got to about 20 rounds and muddled up the increase stitch and then lost interest for a week or two. After putting it off for so long, yesterday I finally decided to stop dragging my feet and start over. I've got to about 6 rounds and I'm adamant to follow it stitch by stitch. This part of the pattern just seem so difficult! This is what will allow knit to increase and become wider for the slouch part of the hat. -------------- *K1, M1knit-wise, K1, P1, M1 purl-wise, P1* (I recommend using the "nearly invisible increase" from TECHknitting. You can also use this technique to make 1 purl-wise too.) At the end of this round you should have 72 stitches. ---------------- Here goes nothing I guess!

More often than not, when someone is telling me a story all I can think about is that I can’t wait for them to finish so that I can tell my own story that’s not only better, but also more directly involves me. Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong. Have you ever been walking down the street and realized that you'regoing in the complete opposite direction of where you are supposed to be going? But instead of just turning a 180 and walking back in the direction from which you came, you have to first do something like check your watch or phone or make a grand arm gesture and mutter to yourself to ensure that no one in the surrounding area thinks you're crazy by randomly switching directions on the sidewalk. I do this everytime, I always thought I was a weirdo for being so self concious. So much of that first post, I felt I could relate to...including the favourite movie one, but I've grown out of that now.

And you wonder why they're taking your jobs! You're too lazy to try, much like the rest of working class Britian. I rest my case!

You know what we really need to clamp down on are those nomads who spend their time trying to increase their number of posts by writing one liners about nonsense. We should start naming and shaming them like the MP's expenses scandal. Lets start with ... Ngonge Joined: Apr 2004 posts: 11138

I'm sure we're missing the point here. The woman was probably under a restraining order which includes any form of contact therefore a Facebook poke would obviously breach that restraining order. Makes sense to me. The thing about news reporters to sensationalise news they'll over embellish in some reports and in this case miss out the vital info.

As per every other community or government that existed you've chosen to blame all your shortcomings on the newcomers... hardly original ngonge. Had you took the time to look at the facts I think you'll find that the people posting nonsense are often the oldies. I think you're even getting senile ngonge with your old age.

Sounds like Ngonge's dictatorship plans have finally surfaced. Trust it to be sexist and discriminative of anything remotely "unknown" to Ngonge much like the BNP. I won't stand for all this discrimination!

I don't remember a BP station across from there. North you've been away too long. You mean opposite Tesco, right!

Well Welcome back! you didn't need to ask.

I don't know about your maths but to pay a maheer of £10k to £20k at 20% of what he's worth, which I assume is his salary...since not many Somali men are stock market billionaires would equate to something around an annual salary of £50k to £100k. The average salary in England is just above £30,000 according to www.payscale.com. And lets be honest many of our women don't see a penny of this money anyway. To me it's a promise and inshallah if he's a good muslim man he'll see it through... that's what I choose to take away from it all. I also think we women need to start doing our part by supporting our partners, even if it's just being the voice of reason when it comes to being unnecessarily frivolous with your hard earned cash.

BTW here is the Youtube video tutorial if you want to try the fingerless gloves... I suggest writing down the pattern as you watch because she's so fast!
-
Apologies for the long wait! I didn't think anyone was all that interested . But as I promised here are my knitted fingerless gloves which I'm so proud about and I hope to make some actual normal gloves or those cute little detachable mittens. And my cowl, I don't know what to do with just yet because of the colour I suppose. I think a soft grey would look amazing with just the right amount of stretch. My next slow and tireless project is the slouchy hat that I'm making in the same wool as the fingerless gloves...for practice sake. I think once I'm confident with it I can attempt it in a much more palatable colour.

You can watch the whole video on http://www.youtube.com/NASATelevision. Not as exciting as I hoped!
-
lol, that's so cool. I need one of those at my tube station!

I'm so proud of myself...I spent most of this weekend indoors and knitting but not just knitting the cowl but I managed to finish it and I started back on my fingerless gloves which are now complete! My only annoyance is that the yarn I used for the cowl isn't as stretchy as the one used in the original pattern...so it doesn't have any of the give the cowl is suppose to have. I think I could risk it by washing it but I risk shrinking it instead. I also think I should have thought through the idea of fingerless gloves in the first place...I'm now wondering what to wear it with and would it keep me warm? BTW they did fit I was a little too hasty with my initial judgements. Enough with the moaning, I'm proud that I've completed them and the pictures will follow shortly. I idly started knitting the hat now using my circular knitting needles have I haven't mastered...so this is going to be a slow and frustrating attempt at a Slouchy Hat. I'll keep you posted!

Thank you Ismahaan. G G don't say that, I've just been figthing this war a long time. I've come to the conclusion that change will only come when we teach our children to not discrimate against one another regardless of our differences.
-
BTW GG I agree with you, JB had no right posting those pictures on here and Ismahan there is noway you can defend JB by insisting that they deserved it for having their pictures online. No one has the right to do that regardless of what they're wearing. Islam teaches us not to speak badly of others or publicise their sins however how small or great. Had these women even chose to pose butt naked, that's between them and Allah...who are we to cast judgement?
-
Everyone is different...you can't making sweeping generalisation about beauty that varies with tastes, culture and individuals. Plus I hate this idea that women are being judged on a day to day basis purely on their looks. Not that I condone either but I don't see you comparing men here, and besides beauty isn't something you can compare or rate because as cheesy as it might sound everyone is beautiful in their own special way.

Well, some people stay the same ages for years in here. It's a bit like Never neverland, as in you never never tell. When I first joined SOL I was 19, do the maths . I always wondered why anyone would hide their age, but I think I'm approaching that age...Oh well I'm still the youngest at my work place, that's all that matters .
-
I'm forever wary about anything you tell me Ngonge. I just find it so hard to take you seriously or believe a word that comes out of your mouth. But I guess Juxa and Che would tell me if you were trying to mislead me. My village is known for its boodh, hardly green. Juxa - I made out about half that sentence, I guess I'm so detached it doesn't impact my day to day life.
-
I'm confused what the hell is qaloocan? Yes, JB power is everything to many people. BTW I beat my insomnia years ago...and I'm not missing them at all. Che - it's going well, just wish I had more hours in the day.

Do you lot think tribalism is still a big thing? I heard this Health official going on about how Somalia has a better TB surveillance system than the UK even with its tribalism and clan disputes. I personally think that's all old news, excuses for the fact that our people are more concerned about power and control in the name of any cause...be if tribalism, religion or family reputation.

Originally posted by Arac: Sue, is this that horrific incident with several Liberian boys? I remember a similar comment made by the little girl's family. Truly sickening. Yep, I'm glad they took her into protective custody. It looks like she'll need protection from her own ****** family. I wonder what it is about these types of cultures that brings about all this ignorant thinking? http://news.bbc.co.u k/1/hi/8168480.stm

On the usual commute today reading the Metro when I come across this snipet in the World Digest section. "Boy, 9, in court over gang rape" As bad as it is the bit that really peeved me off was the comment from the victim's dad. "She (the victim) has brought shame on the family because of the attack" What planet are we living on when fathers are spewing this rubbish! I wanted to scream in rage at the ****** ignorant man...but had to stifle it all because I was on the tube.

lol socks I need to learn the basics first GG, but thanks for the offer. After updating you on my knitting developments over the weekend. I decided to unravel the green wooly table cloth and do it properly this time round. I've managed to knit atleast 10 ridges/rows in garter stitch *woohoo* and it's looking the part! the pattern instructs you to have 44 ridges/rows so loads to go.
