  2. Yeah in hardship I’ll help my people, in fact that’s my main goal in life…but it’s up to me whether I’d do on the picket lines or not. And it’s also up to me whether I want to or not So fine Northerner, you spread the word (whatever that is), but just don’t try to force feed it to people using the techniques you used earlier. It might be a little different in your planet but in my planet people don’t take insults too kindly, much less get swayed by them.
  3. Excuse me?! When I said you could call me westernised I didn’t mean it literally and I certainly didn’t say you could call me typical. How rude! Being typical would be blindly following a cause I have no knowledge about …am I’m definitely not one to follow the herd, even if it means I’ll get called names. I had more respect for you....pity you never had any for me.
  4. Sure I’d support a good cause, but the question is… is it a good cause? Sorry but call me westernised or whatever but I’m not one to join bandwagons just because I happen to be Somali too, especially when you haven’t a clue where it’s heading. But oh well this obviously doesn’t concern me, since I’m not even on the same continent!
  5. I've tried so many times! I can't get more than 42, I swear it's fixed! Maybe I should take heed of what Albert said.
  6. I know I took absolutely ages to reply, but Mutakallim I actually meant my Somali (believe it or not). As you might or might not have known I have a few problems with my Somali, purely because I've raved on about it so many times on SOL! I’m never one to shy away from indulging in a little sarcasm at the expense of others… when need be (of course!), but this time I can honest say (hand on heart!) that I was not mocking you in any shape or form and I thought that was pretty clear. However, I find that some people are often too busy reading between lines that they all too often fail to see what’s starring them straight in the face. **Disclaimer: this message contains sarcasm, and should be taken lightly** ^^^ clear enough?

  8. Wow, you read my mind, thanks for the encouragement and for the reminder. I feel as though I’ve started to slack these past couple of days…I’ve been finding it harder to get up for suxuur or pray on time for that matter and even my prayers are fast and thoughtless. Thanks and Ramadan Kariim to you too!
  9. lol Luv, yeah it's official it's an epidemic! No seriously I noticed I've been feeling a little better but I’ve been getting more frequent headaches. But I think you just need to take it easy, stop rushing about even if it means you'll be late SLOW DOWN!, because quiet frankly it's not worth ruin you health over. In time you'll notice that you'll feel way better! You should probably try going to sleep earlier and having breaks in between tasks. As for forgetting things at home, I took our nomads advice and got myself a routine, so now I always return my keys, cards, purse in the same place and I never put my ID or bank cards in my pockets…I’m bound to leave it at home the next day!
  10. looooooool great joke! I knew this joke would be promisingly different, when you said... "The blonde, who had just opened her book, closes it slowly..." The fact that she's actually reading is a good sign, don't you think??!
  11. some very interesting findings of Dr. Tariq Al Swaidan: Tariq Al Swaidan discovered some verses in the Holy Qur'an that mention one thing is equal to another, i.e. men are equal to women. Although this makes sense grammatically, the astonishing fact is that the number of times the word man appears in the Qur'an is 24 and the number of times the word woman appears is also 24, therefore not only is this phrase correct in the grammatical sense but also true mathematically, i.e. 24 = 24. Upon further analysis of various verses, he discovered that this is consistent throughout the whole Qur'an, where it says one thing is like another. See below for astonishing result of the words mentioned number of times in Arabic Qur'an: Dunia (one name for life) 115. Aakhirat (one name for the life after this world) 115 Malaika (Angels) 88 . Shayteen (Satan) 88 Life 145 .... Death 145 Benefit 50 . Corrupt 50 People 50 . Messengers 50 Eblees (king of devils) 11 . Seek refuge from Eblees 11 Museebah (calamity) 75 . Thanks 75 Spending (Sadaqah) 73 . Satisfaction 73 People who are mislead 17 . Dead people 17 Muslimeen 41 . Jihad 41 Gold 8 . Easy life 8 Magic 60 . Fitnah (dissuasion, misleading) 60 Zakat (Taxes Muslims pay to the poor) 32 . Barakah (Increasing or blessings of wealth) 32 Mind 49 . Noor 49 Tongue 25 . Sermon 25 Desite 8 . Fear 8 Speaking publicly 18 . Publicising 18 Hardship 114 .... Patience 114 Muhammed 4 . Sharee'ah (Muhammed's teachings) 4 Man 24. Woman 24 And amazingly enough have a look how many times the following words appear: Salat 5, ***it's acually 20 times but if you divide down to the nearest odd number it's 5*** Month 12, Day 365, Sea 32, Land 13 Sea + land = 32+13= 45 Sea = 32/45*100=71.11111111% Land = 13/45*100 = 28.88888889% Sea + land =100.00% Modern science has only recently proven that the water covers 71.111% of the earth, while the land covers 28.889%. Is this a coincidence? Question is that Who taught Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) all this? Reply automatically comes in mind that ALMIGHTY ALLAH taught him this. As the Qur'an also tells us this.
  12. Sorry for being soooo vague, but a work colleague of mine was telling me about a scholar who does many lectures of the scientific proofs of Islam and general intellectual proof. And he said that one day this guy was lecturing and this old woman stood up and said “excuse me, but why do we have to proof Allah exist?!†and the scholar actually broke down in tears and asked for forgiveness for being so ignorant and then asked Allah to bless him with the same wisdom as this old woman. I thought it was a nice story and wanted to share it. I’ve also heard about a recognized French scientist becoming Muslim once researching into the Quran. Thanks for the site Aniga, it seems very interesting though!
  13. Even though the joke was so predictable, I couldn’t help but chuckle…nice one! lol Oh I know this other amusing joke I got in an e-mail, chances are you’ve probably seen it before…it’s a small world! ------------------------------------------------- While visiting England, George Bush was invited to tea with the Queen. He asked her what her leadership philosophy was. She said that it was to surround herself with intelligent people. Bush asked how she knows if they're intelligent. "I do so by asking them the right questions," said the Queen. "Allow me to demonstrate." Bush watched as the Queen phoned Tony Blair and said, "Mr. Prime Minister, please answer this question: your mother has a child, and your father has a child, and this child is not your brother or sister. Who is it?" Tony Blair responded with, "It's me, ma'am." "Correct. Thank you and good-bye, sir," says the Queen. She hanged up and said, "Did you get that, Mr. Bush?" Bush noded: "Yes ma'am. Thanks a lot. I'll definitely be using that!" Bush, upon returning to Washington, decided he'd better put the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to the test. Bush summoned Jesse Helms to the White House and said, "Senator Helms, I wonder if you can answer a question for me." "Why, of course, sir. What's on your mind?" Bush posed the question: "Uhh, your mother has a child, and your father has a child, and this child is not your brother or your sister. Who is it?" Helms hemmed and hawed and finally asked, "Can I think about it and get back to you?" Bush agreed, and Helms left. He immediately called a meeting of other senior Republican senators, and they puzzled over the question for several hours, but nobody could come up with an answer. Finally, in desperation, Helms called Colin Powell at the State Department and explained his problem. "Now lookee here, son, your mother has a child, and your father has a child, and this child is not your brother or your sister. Who is it?" Powell answers immediately, "It's me, of course." Much relieved, Helms rushes back to the White House, finds George Bush, and exclaims, "I know the answer, sir! I know who it is! It's Colin Powell!" And Bush replied in disgust, "Wrong, you dumb sh*t, it's Tony Blair!" ---------------------------------------------
  14. ^^^ lol @ personal Alarm! I wonder who would come running to your rescue in Somalia if you were getting attacked?! My guess is it would be the police who were attacking you in the first place. I definitely plan to go back to Somalia; I should start saving I guess. I want to have a nice house out there with all the essentials and I’d probably get by shopping shipped over, I better have Internet access at home too, so I can shop online…lol. I would love to set up a biomedical lab in Somalia so that they can investigate and properly diagnose patients from the Somali hospitals. I realised the need for this when I first went to Somalia and found that their haematology department was so bad! They actually wrongly diagnosed a close relative of mine with malaria, which of course is every serious! And it made me wonder what other things they’ve done and the death toll caused by them prescribing the wrong medication. Obviously this isn’t something that’ll happen over night but it would be great if other students or people working in other specialised fields were to go back to Somali and help their country progress.
  15. If you live in London I found something that’ll help so you don’t have to worry about all this. I mentioned this topic to my cousin and she also thinks that this is definitely something that needs to be addressed before you get married and before it’s too late. She heard that at Brixton Mosque everyone who wishes to get an Islamic marriage certificate from Brixton mosque must have a full health check before they’re allowed to get married. And that obviously includes a blood test, so i guess instead of saying hey why don’t we get a blood test... just in case you have HIV or some other STD. Why don’t you say hey lets get it done at Brixton Mosque? Oh and if you are going to get a blood test I suggest you also find out (If you're a woman) whether or not your Rh positive or negative.
  16. ^^^ You're not serious are you? Please tell me you're not!
  17. mutakallim, I actually understood that, and Amen to that. You know what they say ignorance is bliss.
  18. I thought this would be of interest to you all, especially those who use this section regularly. The messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “Four things are among my followers from the traditions of Jahiliyah (the ignorant state of mind before the prophet was sent) which will not leave; pride of lineage, slandering kinship, use of astrology for rain and wailing.†(Reported by Muslim from Abu Malik Al-Ash’ariy) The messenger of Allah (SAW) also said: “Whoever invites to tribalism, or aids in tribalism and is killed, he dies the death of jahiliyah…he is not of me, and I am not of him.†(Reported by Ahmad, Muslim, and Al-Nasaa’iy from Abu Hurairah) “On the Day of Judgement you will see those who lied in the face of Allah. Their faces will be blackened, is there not in Hell an abode for the proud †-(Al Zumar: 60) “…But today you shall be recompensed with suffering humiliation because you were prideful in the earth without just cause…†-(Al-Ahqaaf:20) Remember pride is the fuel of disbelief! And from pride stems racism! **I edited the title because this reminder is needed, especially after some of the posts we've had lately**
  19. Justcause, walaal Somalis are Africans, by saying you're proud to be African you’re ultimately saying you're proud to be Somali too! (Doesn't it? :  I assumed this was true because these people who were surveyed for the article were only asked about their particular country and how they felt about their country and then it was obviously concluded that these were the collective thoughts of Africans about Africa. I see Somalis are so eager to separate themselves from Africa, next you’ll be professing to be a continent of your own. I’d say I was proud to be African, but I believe pride is poisonous and I’ve read that pride is also the fuel of disbelief. I don’t know about you lot but pride also seems to be the next top reason for conflict and war next to money and power. In the Qu’ran it says: “Indeed he does not love the proud†(An Nahl :23) “…But today you shall be recompensed with suffering humiliation because you were prideful in the earth without just cause…†(Al-Ahqaaf:20) You know I think that’s why Somalia and Somaliland suffers so much, we’re so ridden with pride and for what? We’re not a religious nation in fact we have nothing to be proud about yet we brag about nothing and kill for the sake of it. And the messenger (SAW) said: “He will not enter paradise who has even a speck of pride in his heart†(Reported by Muslim from Ibn Mas’uwd) We should be humble and thankful to Allah for what little we do have.
  20. ^^^ Goodness me, this sounds like the CV's of up and coming future MP's. My credentials aren’t as accomplished as the rest I'm just a student representative for my course at my university (I don't attend meetings any more ) and I'm also a member of the National Union of Student (NUS), but so is everyone other student in the nation...probably because you get so many discounts on things that'll keep you away from studying. I almost forgot I'm also a member of two Islamic societies, one for women and another general one for all the universities in London. I would like to join the Somali students association but I'm not too sure how but I did join the msn group they have.
  21. I think you're right I'm getting myself some Iron tablets inshallah and I think the stress is due to me being so disorganised. So thanks everyone! Oh and Lander maybe you are, so get it checked out or take some of our Nomad's advice or do what I'm doing.
  22. Because I was really eager to learn about the history of Somalia without having to worry about it being biased to one clan or the other so I searched on the net and found this seemingly innocent looking website that came across to me as rather mutual and reliable. (Probably because it was referenced pretty well) So if anyone has the time please have a read through it and tell me if you disagree or agree with any of it. http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/History-of-Somalia Should I celebrate my 666?! Or does that sound creepy, it's the devil's number!
  23. Thanks or the tips and ‘warnings!’ (King), But I don't think I have Alzheimer’s and inshallah I won’t. Lander inshallah I’ll try and make routines and be more healthy, I’m hoping that will help and I think my memory problem might be due to poor sleeping habits and be generally not feeling myself because I’ve been having little bouts of dizziness, black outs and I on the odd occasion feel a little light-headed and there’s my other little weird problem with focusing my eyes. Damn! I sound like I need immediate medical attention! But seriously it isn’t as bad as it seems. I’m probably slightly anaemic and I just haven’t bothered to get it checked out properly. I should probably slow down a little because I’m forever rushing about; maybe all of this is paying its toll on me. Wow I just diagnosed myself, no need for doctor when I have myself aye. Xoogsade, I think seeking medical attention is going too far, you make me sound like I’m some sort of crackpot. I might come across as glum and sad but hey not everyone is happy and cheery in this world. Thank you sheherazade for having some faith in my ‘mental well-being’ as xoogsade put it. But I think that my forgetfulness does affect my day to day life, because I waste so much time going back and forth because I left something somewhere. Like when I leave my house I have to turn back at least once or twice because I left something in my house, that’s if I’m lucky enough to remember it when I’m half way up the road. Other times I’ll remember when it’s too late and I’m on the train or went I’m at work or uni. Anyways enough of my problems, I’m starting to sound like a real life weirdo with real medical problems.
  24. Oh teach me! Because there are somethings I would love or do anything to forget!
  25. ^^^ Walaal I don't rely on them but because my memory has got so bad I'll do anything to help me remember...but even that has started to fail. (Or maybe it never worked in the first place) I've also started to keep a general diary on what I've been doing (when I remember to) and it's crazy, because when I read back I feel like I’m reading the diary of a total stranger I don't remember doing half those things. I was also wondering about how thoughts and memories appear to people or how you picture things in your mind, because I’ve heard they can be visual with colours, mostly sounds or words. But I just see the still image of the object or person I'm thinking of and have either a feeling or sound/ voice attached to it. My work colleague was also just suggesting using links or thought chains to remember things, but I’m not too sure on how that works, any ideas?
