yes, i didnt mean this to be in the womens section but i guess it could fit. i started this thread cause ive heard people here using it, and i know you have too. im not making this shit up.

i hear this alot here and i dont know what to make of it. its kinda hard to dicipher really especially when a lot of you guys seem to think islamic culture and somali culture are inter changeable. for me the only way you can be a somali sell out is if your ashamed of yr people, rather see yr own personal prosperity at the expense of yr people (ive never seen htis yet in our culture, so its pretty hypotheical), or denies his/her somali heritage. i got some questions for yall, but ill wait til i see yr replies.

i got the answer right here and its been tested and everything. ignore the other posts cause they dont know what theyre talkin about. it has nothing to do w wanting to be protected, or because nice guys can get walked all over (thats not ""nice", thats being a push over and people whether male or female sont respect pushovers). first of all i think most girls like nice guys, nobody WANTS to be treated poorly, except masochist but tjats another thread. women who go for the "bad boy" tend to think that they can change him, its all about the challenge of CHANGING him into a nice guy like yrself. they make excuses like "hes not always like this" "when were alone its different" etc etc

i think the letter is more of a social critic at how af.amricans are living and what ideologies are being held (ideologies that are shown in black pop culture, think of state of hip hop today) than a speech to belittle af.american opinions. not all blacks fit into this category, but unfortunately a large majority do and the middle class blacks who havent had to struggle as much are too ashamed to admit a problem in black commuties. if this letter were written by a white person, or even by a person of color who was not supportive of the black struggle than id agree it is racist, but i think if you read closely youll find glimpses of sincerity rarely found in racist rhetoric. to the girl who said that somalis are better off than af. americans in america, i have to agree w/ you but its only because somalis are immigrants and the gov. doesnt feel guilty towards you, and hasnt been running a campaign against yr "people" since the 19thcentury... think about it for a little.

i dont think that verse degrades islam, i think he just meant like a holy book, any holy book. he coulda used ghetto bible but prolly chosed quran cause it sounds better. about the educated uneducated comment i think its a lil unfair cause most rappers just wanna sell to an audience, a young, frivolous and self indulgent audience. it doesnt necessarily mean their ****** , in fact i think thats a lil buisness savy, except they do this at the expense of their own communities, which is selfish, not ****** . young kids ll sell dope just to rock a nice chain (that will no doubt be responsible for the slaughter of an entire village in congo). yr right, being a "muslim" is seen as a trend (ususally when the economy is down and activism takes the front page). its cool to be about something (treach from naught by nature, q-tip,dead prez, etc) and you gain a loyal fan base because of it. but sometimes their are rappers who are muslim because they were raised that way, or because they found something honest in that faith. whether they do/ dont practice every doctrine their faith precribes is where i personnally wash my hands... its none of my buisness.

i wasnt talking about you, but people in this thread were.

Originally posted by SHAKA ZULU: if you're his Girlfriend then you should sleep with him. because where in Islam does it say about B/F and G/F? there is nothing called boyfriend or girlfriend and if you accept to fall in that category then yeah do whatever he asks of you to do because it is not more than what you deserve. big up to all the girls who respect themselves enough to keep their knees locked togather and for those who didn't then count me out of your male suitors. real mature.

these rappers arent waddads, or teachers, theyre reg. folk. i dont get what kind of satisfaction you guys get in wagging yr finger in disapprovement at people but i dont think its right. if you dont like what theyre doing than dont buy their albums, easy as that. what are they supposed to do, renounce theyre faith cause the "experts" disapprove? or give up their passion which is music? i dont get it. if you think rappers are a bad influence in black youth today than say so,id prolly agree, but dont nit pick about whichever book theyre (not) staying true to.

she cant sing, but lately she has been hiting the voice coaches and i applaud her for it. she cant dance and she certainly cant write. shes just another pop singer that made it with her looks. i also have a sneaking suspicion she doesnt know the origin of her name.

mos def is a born and raised muslim, his father was one of the first people to join malcolm x when he left the nation of islam. if any of you own his album youll see that he begins it with bismillahi rahmani raheem, and in the footnotes he thanks Allah and says, and i quote : " whoever hears this and hears good, know that its from Allah, whoever hears this and hears bad, know that its from me and my own short comings." i love this cat to an almost stalker-ish degree. i wanna see him live. any somos in san fransisco, i hear theres a hot show with pharoh monch, madd skillz, mos and talib. its definitely worth seeing, im just hoping they come near where i live cause i think there the only mcees worth seeing now a days. www.mosdefinitely.com <---------- is a hot site who said mos is a sellout? mayne... thats not cool at all... you cant see me right now but im shaking my fist in a threatening manner. *shakes fist* but why do you think that, exactly?

Originally posted by Simple Woman: somealien theres no such thing as "virginity" wat do u mean??? i mean yr either a virgin or yr not. there is no essence called virginity, there are no degrees of virginity (small, medium, large), youve either had sex or you havent, your either waiting for mr right or mr right now, but either way there is nothing yr really "saving" or"sharing" other than an experience. also suban, i dont mind you putting what concerns our people in the for front, but what i disagree with is the idea that this is a new phenomenon. i sincerely doubt there has evr been a time or a place in all of history where people didnt have pre-marital sex, regardless of culture or religion. secondly, not every muslim is religious. remember people usually claim the religion they were born into, which doesnt mean they re practising it. another thing is that i didnt mean to offend you if thats what you thought, but yr original post did sound a lil "high and mighty preacher sister"... at least to me it did.
