  4. this is one version of the story of the origins of valentine's day.....to my eternal shame i have never realized how christian the origins of this story was....and what it represents...but thanks to classique ....there will be no more valentine's celebrations of this nomad....thank u sis..... ps...plz lets all remember to learn more about the events or dates that we celebrate.....and lets not be like sheep and follow the herd to oblivion... The History of Saint Valentine's Day Valentine's Day started in the time of the Roman Empire. In ancient Rome, February 14th was a holiday to honor Juno. Juno was the Queen of the Roman Gods and Goddesses. The Romans also knew her as the Goddess of women and marriage. The following day, February 15th, began the Feast of Lupercalia. The lives of young boys and girls were strictly separate. However, one of the customs of the young people was name drawing. On the eve of the festival of Lupercalia the names of Roman girls were written on slips of paper and placed into jars. Each young man would draw a girl's name from the jar and would then be partners for the duration of the festival with the girl whom he chose. Sometimes the pairing of the children lasted an entire year, and often, they would fall in love and would later marry. Under the rule of Emperor Claudius II Rome was involved in many bloody and unpopular campaigns. Claudius the Cruel was having a difficult time getting soldiers to join his military leagues. He believed that the reason was that roman men did not want to leave their loves or families. As a result, Claudius cancelled all marriages and engagements in Rome. The good Saint Valentine was a priest at Rome in the days of Claudius II. He and Saint Marius aided the Christian martyrs and secretly married couples, and for this kind deed Saint Valentine was apprehended and dragged before the Prefect of Rome, who condemned him to be beaten to death with clubs and to have his head cut off. He suffered martyrdom on the 14th day of February, about the year 270. At that time it was the custom in Rome, a very ancient custom, indeed, to celebrate in the month of February the Lupercalia, feasts in honor of a heathen god. On these occasions, amidst a variety of pagan ceremonies, the names of young women were placed in a box, from which they were drawn by the men as chance directed. The pastors of the early Christian Church in Rome endeavored to do away with the pagan element in these feasts by substituting the names of saints for those of maidens. And as the Lupercalia began about the middle of February, the pastors appear to have chosen Saint Valentine's Day for the celebration of this new feast. So it seems that the custom of young men choosing maidens for valentines, or saints as patrons for the coming year, arose in this way.

  13. hip hop culture has always exploited women....i mean for god's sake have any of u heard any of r. kelly's songs..." the jeep song", its always been this way .....i think that it has just gotten too graphic and now everything that was taboo is normal, cause ppl r not satisfied with innuendos any more. these women who r in this business call themselves ho'fessionals, they make alot of money pandering to the lecherous fantasies of these men. besides we r forgetting that these ppl have not been raised in our culture so they neither have the reiligion upbringing nor moral compass we were raised with....all we can hope is that we r neither participating nor enjoying this " phenomena"....as long as there is demand ....the exploitations will continue.....and as long there r ppl who support and think that "it is alright"...for ppl to behave this way....the only solution is to turn away from it....and not participate .... peace

Two things: ONE, I was being sarcastic. TWO, you proved my theory by taking what I said seriously, and finding yourself in a defensive position once again. Then again, I bet you're used to that sorry ....( just to point out to u am being sarcastic....incase u r wondering....didn't want to confuse u) to be the one to burst ur bubble ..... , but u have no idea how to be sarcastic, u must thing sarcasm is a good thing...the intent of a sarcastic remark is to ridicul, if that was ur intent why do u think that i was defensive..... do u expect me to lay about and take ur " sarcastic" words....think again, interpret my words any way u choose, but i would suggest that u understand what u r posting ...for ur own good..... ps....to get u started here is a hint of what the word sarcasm means....."A cutting, often ironic remark intended to wound."....i hope u take the hint and pick up a dictionary b4 u write again, thinking u meant something when u obviously don't know what u intended to say...
  22. wind.talker: Walaal, if the door is closed to you, I'm sure there's a perfectly good reason. No reason to break down doors and end up getting charged with a B&E in court. Besides, I think a gentle knock would get the job done - and its more polite. Cheers! walaal, what works 4 u is ur business.....so don't force ur "peacefull" on me....incase u misunderstood....sweetie itsn't an actual door but rather a hypothetical one....got it....besides nobody decides what doors r open to me.....ok... The Paradigm am sure This crap will be the best statement in SOL this year. [smile] This comes in plenty when someone only FEARS ALLAH. [smile] thank you....am sure u thought by calling my statement crap that u thought that would have some effect on me....guess again...unlike u am not going stoop to ur level of name calling....if u can't handle others opinions without getting low....maybe u should reconsider sol....it might not be the place 4 u.....u sound 2 judgemental and juvenile 4 me....
