What's the end goal Kashafa? Is it the defeat of warlordism, dabadhilifs, TFG, whatever name you deem is appropriate? Is it stable, peaceful Somalia , united under the banner of Islam? Or driving Ethios outta Somalis soil will do? You already said the end product: A united, stable, and peaceful Somalia, under the banner of Islam. Something we all want. But we're getting ahead of ourselves. We're saddled with the biggest pink elephant in the room: The Ethiopian occupation(do you notice how very few want to talk about this glaring reality ?). Can we come to grips with the fact that we're an occupied country. Occupied in all spheres, military, political, and economical, by our ancient archenemy: Ethiopia. Let's have the courage to discuss the reality on the ground, as it is. We all want peace. We all would prefer diplomacy to war. We all are concerned about the humanitarian conseqences of war. But let not our wishes over-colour the reality on the ground. Facts take precedence over all sorts flowery analysis and prognosis. A) The TFG may have nominal international support, but they're utterly discredited in the eyes of the people. Politically speaking, they're done. Khalaas. Finito. The minute the Ethos withdraw(or are kicked out) is the minute Liberation of Somalia 2.0 happens. I could list a whole litany of why the TFG and it's fake.*** 'leaders' shouldn't have any say in Somalia's future, but only one reason will suffice: They are traitors who invited Ethiopia to occupy Somalia. No amount of verbal back-flipping(Duke & Co) will change that fact. So first off, let's agree that the TFG and it's leaders(Yusuf, Gheedi, Qeybdiid) have no credibility and are only to be dealt with as the criminals they are. That said, it would naive to expect them to just go away. Somalida waxay dahaan: Ninka Tag lama daho. Waxuu kutago aala tuusaa. So Baashi, if you agree with me that this Vichy-TFG entity is a discredited, traitorous grouping of war criminals(nuclear waste intee ka galee ?)that should be gitten rid of, How do we tos(show) them waxay ku tagaan ? Do you still insist on diplomacy ? If so, I'd like to hear your reasons. Keep in mind that these are power-hungry hyenas who have shown, time and again, that they will do anything, including the unthinkable, in order to get a shot at the kursi. Faarax-Brawn, the only dialouge between the TFG and the Resistance is this: Ethiopia Out. Then we'll talk. No kalaam kateer before that.

Everywhere: work, school, gym, soccer pitch, these new heroes were hailed & saluted. Not by the 'religious crowd' per se, but by the entire mass of Somali-dom. Odayaal, Rag, Dhalinyaro, Dumar. Heck, I bet even the dugaag were celebrating . It would go on to be a historical year with even more successes, laakin adiga sheekada noo see wad. I'd say it would be more relevant if you focused on the overall themes of that time-period(as u did in the 1st post), instead of making it a character-study(Liiban, Nuraddiin). Let the characters serve the story and not the other way around. Great stuff. Let's get the 4th installment.

^^ I agree with that, to a certain extent. Targeting low-level 'nabad-doons' or shaxaad-raadis when you have the bulk of the occupying enemy and the leadership of the TFG, does seem to be both a tactical and strategical mistake. The case could even be made that it's morally wrong(although I disagree with that last point) One big caveat tho: We're not on the ground in Somalia. We don't know the socio-political-military dynamics that's causing the Resistance to adopt their current tactics. What might seem to you and me to be folly(or even injustice) just might be the exact right thing to do. I'm not saying let's have blind faith in the Muqaawama, but I am saying that since they're on the ground and we're not, and since they are privy to information and projections that we don't have, that we should put our trust in them. Teddy Roosevelt said it best here: It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again; because there is not effort without error and shortcomings ; but who does actually strive to do the deed; who knows the great enthusiasm, the great devotion, who spends himself in a worthy cause, who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement and who at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly. So that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat We, the onlookers, the pundits, the fadhi-ku-dhirirs , happen to be the critics. You were no naive illiterate camel-herder recruit, but a high-ranking officer who reaped the bitter seeds of death that he sowed I take no particular joy in the death of the average soldiers, be they Xabashi or Dhabo-dhilifs. For the most part they are poor geel-jires recruited to serve in their Tol militia. Or Ethiopian peasents forced to serve in their country's military. The 'way of the gun' is all they know and understand in the harsh unforgiving enviroment of post-1991. That does not excuse their actions, but sheds light on their motivations. But with "sarkaal sare's"(Senior officers, military & civillian), it's a whole different ballgame. These are policy-making men with full knowledge of their actions, it's consequences, and the stakes of the game they play. Macalinkaan Faarax Aglal ladahaayo may have left behind orphaned kids and a widow, but so do millions of Somalis that have been brutalised by the Ethiopian invasion and subsequent occupation. Major chapters would include a overt anti-Islamic campaign that culminated in the execution of 11 Islamic scholars, the best Somalia had to offer. The annhilation of Hargeysa with fighter-jets and indiscriminate artillery fire. Using the Somali National Army as his personal toy, subject to his whims. Inoculating a personality cult(Aabo Siad), and more. Siad Barre's Positives(accomplishments): You could also write a book about it, wrapped in it's warped Somali Nationalism(Somalinimo-on-steroids), as it is. Exhibit B: Warlord & Dhabo-dhilif, Inc's Negatives: Compounded genocide, ethnic cleansing, grand treason, destruction & dismantling of the Somali State, gutting it to the ground. Using Somali soil as burying fields for nuclear waste, endangering not only those living but the unborn generations as well(congential disordesr, deformities, cancer, etc), and much more. They may all be SOBs who should fry in hell for their crimes, but there is varying degrees of SOB'ness and Warlord & Dhabo-dhilif, Inc simply take the cake, cream, and butter when it comes to that. A degree of objectiveness is in order here. Nobody holds Siad Barre and his Socialist-kacaan-Hanti-Wathaag experiment in more contempt than I do, but even I have to acknowledge the advances Somalia made, especially during the 1969-1977 period. Contrast that with the rebel groups turned Xabashi slaves that now plauge Somalia and Siad Barre 'shines'. Academic and intellectual honesty demands that a clear distinction be made between an evil dictator with a personality cult who took the country down with him when he was kicked out and shameless collaborationist traitors who were and continue to be Ethiopian pawns.

Excellent idea, Um Zakariya, and with Ramadan coming up, right on time too. Although, I'd propose a slight change. Instead of winning a cash prize when you achieve your target goal(5 Juz, 10 Juz, etc), you would have to 'forfeit' and pay up a predetermined amount of money to a sadaqa of your choice(also to be predetermined). Basically put, this thread would act as an accountability partner. You would post your target Qu'ran goal and give yourself a deadline. You would give periodical updates of your progress and if your deadline date rolls by and you haven't met your goals, it's time to pay up to the sadaqa. In order for this to be effective tool, it's gotta be a substantial(relatively) amount that would put a dent into your other materialistic plans(shopping, bills, etc). You wouldn't have disclose the amount you paid but you would have to post the fact that you either achieved your goals, or paid up. It's a win-win deal all around: You either do what you gotta do, put in ur time and meet your goals and memorize the Qu'ran.....or you get ajar by paying up for Sadaqa as well as deterrent not to slack off next time. As Um pointed out, it happens all the time in International Qu'ran competitions, which can be pretty lucrative. First-place winner can make like 50K(Saudi Riyaals). Again, it's all about using money as a tool, not an end in itself.
