  1. A series on Alshabab from another terrorist sympathiser! Its almost a self-critique. Would be interesting to hear what they have to say.
  2. A very engrossing and intriguing book. Very well written. The humour is gentle and the story very compelling!
  3. Bulgakov tells the story of a poet who encounters Satan when he shows up in Moscow and then goes on to wreak havoc throughout the city with his unholy band of companions. The rampage involves mass hypnotism, the distribution of fake money, disappearances, mysterious deaths, and the driving of many people to insanity. The core of the story is about the Master, an insane novelist who rewrote the New Testament from Pontius Pilate's point of view in a way that parallels Moscow society in the 1930's, and Margarita, the beautiful woman who sells her soul in order to liberate the Master from his insanity.
  4. Ishiguro's prose is graceful and eloquent, and his understanding of human relationships is deep. It left me feeling very disturbed and I sincerely hope that we never have to come to such a point where we raise clones just to make them donate all their organs when they're at the peak of their lives - full of youthful love and hope. 9/10
  5. Forget the romanticised view of India portrayed in the likes of Inheritance of Loss and A Passage to India. This is a tale from the other end of India, where corruption, murder, money and power are at play. Where corporate India collides with the poorest of the poor. It is told through the communications of a self made entrepreneur writing to the President of China who is due to vist. He tells of his rise from pauperdom to riches. His tales of corruption and murder that he has commited to achieve his sucess.All told in a gritty and sardonic way and totally devoid of any sentimentality. Brilliant;
  6. Very personalised account of the Nigerian Civil War, told from multiple perspectives, all of them Biafran in their political orientation, and yet very coherently presented. The voices of the intellectual, the domestic, the rich, and the british all are clear and quite beautiful in this book.
  7. When reading this books, the reader always infuses much of his own meaning and interpretation into the writing.It is saturated with satire and absurdity of the human beings trying to bring identity to their own selves, at the centre of which is a buddhist teacher and his disciple. Pelevin teaches to separate mind from physical substance and abandon the individual's self in order to learn exactly what "self" means. Funny, thought-provoking, powerful.
  8. How long do you intend on going on with these C'mon son tirades. In a way, the C'mon Warya videos are complaining about the saqaajanimo and stereotypical tendencies of Somali people. I for one applaud the efforts undertaken by these guys.
  9. Originally posted by Abaay Heylay: Max come to Canada, since all the innocent girls are in Canada, I am sure they will welcome you with open hands. I once dated a Somali-Canadian girl. She lived in Canada and I in London at the time. We use to call our 'love' the special transatlantic relationship. We spoke every night on the phone, and used other forms of technology to communicate. I use to buy £2.50 cheap international calling card, after her phone contract was cancelled for going over its limit, I assumed it was because of the long distance calling. The card I think, lasted for several days unless it was Friday night. She was a nice girl. I liked her loads. Its a shame I never got to meet her.
  10. Mental disorder? name calling and accusing people of disorders is not something I subscribe to and quite frankly I am shocked and disappointed by the attitude taken by certain individuals. When all else fails, people shouldn't resort to name calling. I am not surprised! This is expected.

  12. ^ This is merely your interpretation of events. It has no logical or reasonable basis. I don't pretend to be something I am not. You don't know me to come to such a conclusion. Faheema, unlike you I don't have a rose-tinted view of the world.
  13. ^ Eedo Faheema, Do you really think I have sympathy for those who transgress against the law and at the same time endanger the life of their passenger without any regard for their welfare and safety. The selfish and inconsiderate behaviour of Somali people shouldn't not be excused and brushed under the carpet. I fail to see how I could have embarrassed myself in the quote. Perhaps you are seeing something I have missed out.
  14. Outrageous! is the word that comes to mind after the behaviour of certain Somali individual. Last night, A friend of mine and I were told to pull over on the motorway for allegedly speeding. My friend, the driver was uninsured and did not have a license, this is a guy who has been driving for as long as I can remember. Whats more he tried to mess around with the police officer by repeatedly giving the wrong date of birth. What a saqajaan! I on the other hand, gave the officer the correct details, and was driven to the nearest station tube station after striking a polite conversation with the officer in the confiscated car, while the criminal was put in the police van to spend a night in the Hammersmith Police station Cell.

  16. My earliest memory was when I was four. I dont remember much of life before 2000. According to research memories are always shifting. Each time we remember something, its a recollection of the last time we remember that particular memory.

  18. ^ calm down dear its only a youtube clip.
  19. I heard this film is tipped for great success. The best french film of all time is La Haine La Haine - Full Movie on Youtube A French version of 'Boyz In The Hood' or 'Kidulthood'. A brilliant and brutal Multi Award Winning movie showing the side of Paris that doesnt show up on the tourist map. Following 3 Young Men/Teenagers trapped in the Parisian economic, ethnic and social underclass.
  20. @juxa Anyways the matter has been resolved. If you want to continue to sit on the fence that choice is entirely yours. You should have no expectations of anyone. @IBZ Universities as I understand follow a secular code, which ensures that students are free from any act of propagation or religious instigation. Freedom within the guidelines of the university code of conduct is also protected by law. The Islamic Society in my university has been seen in campus harassing other students and sending notes calling for females to be covered and for males not to interact with the opposite sex. The mentality, which breeds this sort of behaviour, is the mentality that forms the perfect birthplace of extremism. And it therefore becomes urgent that the university takes solid steps in discouraging such behaviour and holding those who engage in it accountable.
