@LLLP, these things happen in all socities even in the most of the so called Islamic societies. The difference is that over there it is hidden and concealed whilst in the West it's open. Somalis go clubbing, drink,, screw each other; Somalis sells drugs which are all prohibited in Islam, but somewhat they accept no Somali homos to exist? Hiiraan just displays stories about Somalis from the world media and this is just one of them...they are not making a judegment....

There is no such thing as patriotism, it's just an imagined and constructed feeling....

Nur, I disagree with you about America holdin the moral ground on freedom and whatnot and then losing it now..This is the same America that did what they did to the Japanese and you also had the civil rights movement..It is not first time America has sought to go go on imperial wars, thus hasn't lost it moral ground in Palestine, Iraq and others. They lost it in Nicaruaga, Chile, Grenada, the Congo and various other places were their policies hurt the local people. But there still great freedoms and rights in the U.S, hence the obvious contradiction between how America treats its own citizens and what is does in the international stage. I would say in the West there are still plenty of things you could still say about world events which you can't say in many other places of the world. But these days you can get arrested for just about anything. This is probably were the fear comes from, ie not knowing what you can say and what you can't. And I would say Bin Laden is winning the war, infact I would say more Muslims are waking to what Bin Ladens ideology would mean for the Muslim world. Even the Sunnis that fought in their Jihad in Iraq are starting to turn their back on Alqaeda, an organisation that always ends up insulting the local tribes and culture of Islam in which seek to return to the "beginning".....

Originally posted by Naxar Nugaaleed: whats engagin you in our capital is your government. as long as you sideline them and keeping talking about ethio this and that, most people wont "buy" it. by the way, am not selling anything! Adeer, when I said buying, I didn't mean that you were literaly selling something, rather I was referring to making people understand your point of view from a logical prespective. I am not by any means suggesting that Ethiopia is the monster of all our problems. Also, I do not pretend that some sections of Somali society hold Ethiopia's role in Somalia to be a positive nature. However, what I do object is your contradicting and somewhat revisionist rewriting of the situation in Somalia. On the one hand you claim that the Ethiopian regime, through it's military dare I say, literaly saved the Somali Government, is protecting the Somali government and that Ethiopian presence of thousands of troops is needed to create democracy, stability and governance in Somalia. On the other hand you attempt to downplay the signifance of Ethiopians troops and their role in Somali politics at every opportunity, thus making you look like a blind supporter of the T.F.G. I mean everytime sonme unlawful incident is reported about the Ethiopians, you and you cyber clique attempt to sideline and downplay this issue by resorting to the card of "ooooh what about that Somalis for the past sixteen years" or " stop focusing on foreigners". Of course I am not saying there is nothing wrong with this opinion,However, it doesn't make sense to claim that the Ethiopians(strongest instution currently operating in Somalia) are the key to resurrecting the Somali State and then on the other hand claim that their presence is insignificant when ever their role in Somali politics is scrutinized.

quote:Engaging the international community especially our neighbors They are already engaging us in our own captial city, thus however much you try to sideline the issue of Ethiopians troops in Somalia and try to make people talk about " implementing democracy", most people wont buy it. Just a bit of advice!

You have to understand that some PLs on this forum don't particularly support the T.F.G per se, rather it is alla bout supporting one individual. When the officials in the T.F.G opposed this they were chastised as warlords, thugs and criminals, but when they go on aboard with this individual they become Santa Claus..... As for the question, you need to rephrase it mate.... Patriotism means nothing....you can sit infront of your computer, chew some khat, put on your macawis and play some loud Wadani Music whilst waving the Somalia Flag....this can be considered as patriotism....

Mogadishu admin cracks down on warlord media [about time]
Fabregas replied to General Duke's topic in Politics
Strange that you called the MOG media "warlords" when the very man who is cracking down on them is a warlord himself, but you gave the fancy title of "admin". -
