  5. Whitechapel should be one of the hotspots? Almuhajiroun and Hizb U tahrir influence over the youth has declined somewhat over their years. Ask some of the older brothers how much influence they had in youth clubs, uni and colleges, in the mid 90s. I don't whether it's due to the government, disillusionment with their ideas or the increased Salafi propogation: they don't have the same impacy nemore! Or maybe I'm wrong?
  6. I am not interested in a competitive comparison between SOmalis and Kenyans. I don't just don't buy the over-emotional glorification of Kenyan civilization. Their leaders were ready to use the masses as cannon fodder to gain political power. Furthermore, some segments of their community were easily incited, civilized eh? If anything much credit goes the international players that operated behind the scenes to get the to sides to agree, rather then their desire or love for their country!
  7. Ignoring the details of any given conflict leads to people making unrealistic goals and assumptions. Yours is a case in point: let SOmalis magically reconcile and unite first, whilst pretending to ignore the differences between the Somali actors, and reduce them to meer tribal undercurrents. Let us pretend that one group of Somalis in this current conflict have modelled their life on Osama Bin Laden, eh? It's all about clans miya? And how do these statements work together? 1.Somalis are clannish, and they are divided along those clannish lines 2.They don’t hate each other based on their respective clan lineages 3.division is merely political.
  8. Saxiib, I don't buy those generlisations about Kenyans. A whole load of people got heated up about the tribal cleansing and many appeared easily incited. The thing that led to this compromise was probably the emergency styl meetings and intiatives set up by Kofi Anan( and Americans), as well the existence of a strong state. It would have been interesting if the government refused to negotiate with the opposition and the Americans declared the opposition as terrorists.........Afrikaan kuraas loo balan qadey baad leedihin waa civilized.......
  9. Who is Hassan Hersi? Isn that the bloke that left the ARS and said he was joining Alshabaab? I think what we are seeing is somewhat to similar to what happened in Iraq. Alqaeda(Alshabaab in this case) are trying to monopolize the resistance from the the nationalists, tribalists and the "moderate" Islamists". I doubt they can succede and great a one group junta in a such a decentralized and tribal society. I also doubt that the Somalis will accept them to impose their will on them or tell them that they can't watch movies and whatnot, not for long any way. Watch the space! This nearly broken alliance will be tested in the coming months.
  10. Kenya is too civilized, they're not tribalists like Somalis? yeah right!
  11. http://www.metimes.com/International/2008/02/28/will_divisions_undermine_somali_rebellion/2326/ In his critique of the ARS, Amriki writes that the Shabab has adopted the manhaj (religious methodology) "adopted by the Mujahideen in the rest of the blessed lands of jihad," including that of Osama bin Laden, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, and "the lion, the genius, the doctor" Ayman al-Zawahiri. According to Nick Grace, who follows the jihadist web for ThreatsWatch, global jihadist forums have taken note of the split, and opinion on them generally runs against ARS.
  12. It's funny how I.C.U members openly came to raise money and Somali conferences openly talked about resistance. I suppose there was less of an outcry as it was against African(Ethiopians) as opposed to any Western forces. Perhaps this case will set a new precedent.
  13. If you say that infront of them, they will probably say: war waa maxay waxaad sheegaysid? Sidan ma reer galbeedkaad ku soo baratay"? Hada Kabacdi Allahuakbar Alshabaab dhe". Magacan(LX) aad meesha ku qorteyna wa bidcah weyn".Lakin sawirkaagu waa hersare
  14. Are Somalis in the Diaspora the gravediggers of the Nation? We cannot stop the agony in Somalia when we face (online) each other with views which are diametrically opposing or contradicting each other. Radical Clan activists, religious fanatics, hard core secessionists, intellectual opportunists in Canada, USA, and England are spear heading political debates and problems of Somalia. http://www.hiiraan.com/op2/2008/feb/are_somalis_in_the_diaspora_the_gravediggers_of_the_nation.aspx
  15. quote:"When Arabs ask, 'But can a Turk really be a good Muslim theologian, because he doesn't know Arabic?' Well, they all know Arabic very well," Koerner says. "But they shed another light on Islam -- by bringing in [reflections from] Western philosophy, sometimes Christian theology, even." Great, a Catholic who believes another man can forgive sins is teaching Muslims how to interpret the Quran in a "new light". Are Muslims even allowed for a Christian to explain the Quran and SUnnah to them? I can't believe the government is supporting this intiative.
  16. Juje, care to explain who will carry out this cleansing of Alshabaab? Clan militias, T.F.G or Habashis? I said before and i'll say it again: the majority of the Alshabaab can be corrected and put on the right path. This can only done by Somali Ulema and other religous groups. Any secular organisation be it the T.F.G, Ethiopians or Americans will put more flames to the fire.
  17. Y don't u delete it(aflagaado comments) saxiib?

Just pick up a camera and validate everything in the name of Islam (Peace that is! ) The average young person in the West or even in the predominantly Arab-Muslim world isn't ready to digest the information of scholars. This man is here to inspire people and possibly get them on the road to reading literature from Ulema and studying Islam. Secondly, his style is more relaxted, more enthustiastic, and more enlightening to many young people than Ulema and your average Sheikhs. People get tired of, " do this and that" and, " you will go to hell if you don't pray". Young people don't neccesarily like being lectured to; this man has way of lecturing to them without them realising it and being patronizing. Muslims need to adopt new media, styles and debating styles to give dawa without straying from the Quran and Sunnah.
  19. quote:I must confess to have missed that part where liverpool were on the back foot and inter setting up attack after attack. If that is how the game was at one period then i swear to have watched a different game than you did. Saxiib, I didn't say that liverpool were back on the foot and iNter were having attack after attack. There was a smalle period where liverpool had all the possesion, but Inter were just defending easily, and Liverpool appeared to be running out of ideas. Inter were clearly trying to frustrate Liverpool and then try to nick a goal during the later stages of the second half.
  20. @Juje, some members of Alshabaab have clearly lost the plot, that is what we are disputing here. What is up for dispute is that the entire Alshabaab Somali youth should be eliminated. I believe that this idea is not based on your dislike of them mercilessly slaughtering people or shaming the name of Islam. For your hatred of the Islamic Courts was evident well before Alshabaabs started shooting people at point blank range. We also know that you and others urged people to support the T.F.G and get on board with the "government" after they and Ethiopians had slaughtered thousands of Somali people, and came to Muqdisho on top of tanks. Secondly, I believe the core group of Alshaab( ie the youth) can be changed. This means that they will be rehabilitated once( if) Somalia gets a proper government and all sides put down their weapons. But saying that they should be eliminted like the "occupiers" is just asking for more bloodshed. Who's going to do the cleansing and driving out of Alshabaab? You want the Somali clans to ask for Ethiopians and Americans to help drive out Alhabaabs like the Arab Tribes did with ALqaeda in Iraq? Or you want a fully blown out war between youths and other Somalis like Algerians? I don't believe the core of the youth are the problem, rather some of their leaders who based their philoshophy on Syed Qutb on Osama Bin Laden. If their leaders don't change, then the time the Somali people deal with them. But it isn't going to be through CIA, Nur Cade or Ethiopian tanks which will excerbate the situation and firmly place the country under foreign control!Though they are clearly not on the same level of Ethiopian occupiers as you wrongly assert.
  21. This brother is very good in terms of inspiring people and teaching them to love the seerah. He brings to life. I have seen him a few times on Arabic Televsision( read the English translation), and he knows how to interact with an audience. May Allah increase his efforts and strenghten his Iman, Ameen!
