  6. Somali rapper K'naan visits famine-struck homeland By ABDI GULED, Associated Press – MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) — Somali-born rapper K'naan brought his waving flag back home Sunday, promising to help his countrymen as they struggle with a devastating famine that has killed tens of thousands of children. The rapper, who left Somalia as a child more than two decades ago to settle in Canada, made a brief visit to Mogadishu on Sunday. He was mobbed by famine refugees who tried to shake his hand or hug him as he toured Mogadishu's Banadir Hospital and met with malnourished children. "I came to Somalia to see the situation here and give any donation I have to the people and anything else available," he said, speaking in Somali. "I will do all I can to help my people in Somalia." He did not perform his hit song "Wavin' Flag," which tells of the difficulties he faced growing up in the lawless, impoverished Horn of Africa nation. A version of that song was used for a Coca-Cola campaign when South Africa hosted the 2010 World Cup. The United Nations says more than 3.2 million Somalis need food aid. The U.S. says 29,000 Somali children under age 5 have died. The U.N. says tens of thousands of people already have died in Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia and Djibouti and has warned that the famine hasn't peaked. More than 12 million people in the region need food aid, according to the U.N. Somalia has been hit hardest because of a confluence of conflict and climate change. Decades of violence in Somalia has left population vulnerable to the vagaries of weather changes. Islamist insurgents are also attempting to overthrow Somalia's weak U.N.-backed government. The most dangerous among the groups is the al-Qaida-linked al-Shabab militant group, which has barred aid agencies from operating in the territories it controls in southern Somalia. The southern parts of Somalia, which are mainly under the control of al-Shabab extremists, have been worst affected because of the group's refusal to allow in key humanitarian groups including the World Food Program, the world's major aid provider. 7. I set up a trap and you fell right into. LOOOOOOOOOL. It was so easy, all I had to write was "tolerated" and you came rushing in just like I predicted. Sike! p.s. I could care less what you stand by, I didn't ask you about your life stories.
  8. You are lonely man, and you are only in this thread because you felt left out! I don't blame you though, it's tough out there. Now thanks for keeping this thread active and on top. Seems you can't stop following me around SOL. I should be thankful for the attention, but I'm not. Click click! The same guy who wrote on SOL "H'da oo sida Alle u hooseysa" is here acting all innocent. Haha, the nerve of Abdi Iley!
  9. The fact is, you cried when I commented on your thread a while ago, "SOL wey weyntahay meel raadso" is what yelled out, and now here you are arriving late for the party I threw uninvited. You feeling left out? poor thing, you sound jealous to me. I'm actually enjoying this now, it proves how much power I wield over you. You simply can't stay away from Somalina's threads.
  10. I'm guessing when Abdi Iley gets bored he rushes in to crash other folks' parties.
  11. This is a positive thread, I would like to keep it that way. Kindly exit if you have nothing positive to add. Trolling will not be tolerated here indeed.
  12. Scale of reported Somalia food aid theft implausible, insists UN Stolen food sold in Mogadishu markets amounts to no more than 1% of total assistance, says World Food Programme spokesman Mark Tran guardian.co.uk Tuesday 16 August 2011 17.03 BST The UN's World Food Programme (WFP) has rejected as implausible areport of widespread food aid theft in Somalia, where more than 3.2 million people are relying on a massive international relief operation. Associated Press claimed that vast piles of food bearing stamps from the WFP, the US government aid arm USAid, the Japanese government and the Kuwaiti government are for sale in Mogadishu markets. AP said it found eight sites where thousands of sacks of food aid were being sold in bulk. Other food aid was also for sale in numerous smaller stores, it was reported. Among the items allegedly being sold were Kuwaiti dates and biscuits, corn, grain, and Plumpy'nut, a fortified peanut butter designed for starving children. However, according to WFP, the key player in the relief effort for Somalia, early estimates based on the evidence provided by AP suggest the diverson of food aid amounts to about 1% of food assistance the organisation is bringing through Mogadishu. WFP is shipping 5,000 tons a month of food aid into Mogadishu. "From our perspective, the scale of theft alleged is implausible," said Greg Barrow, a WFP spokesman in Rome. "The scale of theft suggested would require a logistical operation comparable in size to what we are doing in Mogadishu." For the past two weeks, planeloads of aid from the UN, Iran, Turkey, Kuwait and other countries have been arriving in the Somali capital almost daily. Supplies by ship are also on the way. Five areas of Somalia are officially in a state of famine, and the rest of southern Somalia could follow within the next four to six weeks, according to the UN.
