ARE CABLE INTERNET CONNECTIONS VULNERABLE TO HACKERS? A PC that is connected to the Internet via a cable modem (i.e., using a cable television ISP) is always vulnerable to a malicious hack attack whenever the PC is on. Even if a browser is not opened, merely turning on a PC with a cable connection renders the device vulnerable to attack. Why is this? Because cable ISPs, in providing the Internet access to a user, essentially are creating giant always-connected networks of PCs comprised of all their customers. Cable connections utilize Ethernet cards, which render the user one link in a giant network. Even if a browser is never opened, a cable-connected PC links to the Ethernet-enabled network (i.e., the Internet) as soon as the PC is booted -- just as a connection to a LAN or other corporate network renders the device vulnerable to attacks across that network. This gives a hacker access to the user's hard drive, and opens the door for many kinds of malicious hack attacks. One way to protect a cable-connected PC from malicious hacks is to disable file-sharing and print-sharing capabilities in the operating system. This is a simple solution for some but for others not a reality as this method basically disables any kind of home networking. A better method is to install either a hardware or software firewall. A hardware firewall typically is a small device that the cable and the Ethernet card are both connected to. All transmissions pass through the hardware firewall. A software firewall, which is the more common and cheaper of the two methods, is a piece of code that resides on your PC and is always running. The software watches interactions between the PC and the Internet and blocks any suspicious activities. -
I hope this helps you as much as IT has helped me. I am hoping though that more people who know what they are talking about could add their two cents here. I've been reading up on this would like to share. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A WORM, A VIRUS, AND A TROJAN? The most common blunder when the topic of a computer virus arises is that people will often refer to a Worm or Trojan Horse as a Virus. While the words Trojan, worm, and virus are used interchangeably, they are not the same. Viruses, worms, and Trojan Horses are all malicious programs that can cause damage to your computer, but there are differences between the three, and knowing those differences can help you to better protect your computer from their often damaging effects. A computer virus attaches itself to a program or file so it can spread from one computer to another, leaving infections as it travels. Much like human viruses, computer viruses can range in severity; some viruses cause only mildly annoying effects while others can damage your hardware, software, or files. Almost all viruses are attached to an executable file, which means the virus may exist on your computer but it cannot infect your computer unless you run or open the malicious program. It is important to note that a virus cannot be spread without a human action, (such as running an infected program) to keep it going. People continue the spread of a computer virus, mostly unknowingly, by sharing infecting files or sending e-mails with viruses as attachments in the e-mail. A worm is similar to a virus by its design, and is considered to be a sub-class of a virus. Worms spread from computer to computer, but unlike a virus, it has the ability to travel without any help from a person. A worm takes advantage of file or information transport features on your system, which allows it to travel unaided. The biggest danger with a worm is its ability to replicate itself on your system, so rather than your computer sending out a single worm, it could send out hundreds or thousands of copies of itself, creating a huge devastating effect. One example would be for a worm to send a copy of itself to everyone listed in your e-mail address book. Then, the worm replicates and sends itself out to everyone listed in each of the receiver's address book, and the manifest continues on down the line. Due to the copying nature of a worm and its ability to travel across networks the end result in most cases is that the worm consumes too much system memory (or network bandwidth), causing Web servers, network servers, and individual computers to stop responding. In more recent worm attacks such as the much talked about .Blaster Worm., the worm has been designed to tunnel into your system and allow malicious users to control your computer remotely. A Trojan Horse is full of as much trickery as the mythological Trojan Horse it was named after. The Trojan Horse, at first glance will appear to be useful software but will actually do damage once installed or run on your computer. Those on the receiving end of a Trojan Horse are usually tricked into opening them because they appear to be receiving legitimate software or files from a legitimate source. When a Trojan is activated on your computer, the results can vary. Some Trojans are designed to be more annoying than malicious (like changing your desktop, adding silly active desktop icons) or they can cause serious damage by deleting files and destroying information on your system. Trojans are also known to create a backdoor on your computer that gives malicious users access to your system, possibly allowing confidential or personal information to be compromised. Unlike viruses and worms, Trojans do not reproduce by infecting other files nor do they self-replicate. Combating Viruses, Worms and Trojan Horses The first steps to protecting your computer are to ensure your operating system (OS) is up-to-date. This is essential if you are running a Microsoft Windows OS. Secondly, you should have anti-virus software installed on your system and ensure you download updates frequently to ensure your software has the latest fixes for new viruses, worms, and Trojan Horses. Additionally you want to make sure your anti-virus program has the ability to scan e-mail and files as they are downloaded from the Internet. This will help prevent malicious programs from even reaching your computer. If this isn't enough protection, then you may want to consider installing a firewall as well. A firewall is a system which prevents unauthorized use and access to your computer. A firewall can be either hardware or software. Hardware firewalls provide a strong degree of protection from most forms of attack coming from the outside world and can be purchased as a stand-alone product or in broadband routers. Unfortunately, when battling viruses, worms and Trojans, a hardware firewall may be less effective than a software firewall, as it could possibly ignore embedded worms in out going e-mails and see this as regular network traffic. For individual home users, the most popular firewall choice is a software firewall. A good software firewall will protect your computer from outside attempts to control or gain access your computer, and usually provides additional protection against the most common Trojan programs or e-mail worms. The downside to software firewalls is that they will only protect the computer they are installed on, not a network. It is important to remember that on its own a firewall is not going to rid you of your computer virus problems, but when used in conjunction with regular operating system updates and a good anti-virus scanning software, it will add some extra security and protection for your computer or network. source

Feminism, ideas, recipes, family values?
Seeking Paradise replied to Valenteenah.'s topic in General
How has complaining about the term 'feminism' being wrongfully attached to us morphed into questioning the state of our iman? Yaa rabi...protect us from the sneaky hypocrites among us. -
^I wonder why you specifically choose Baashi? Couldn't you make your point without naming names? being married and having 3000 posts in under 12 months is straight up pathetic. no matter how you look at it. This is really getting to be annoying. What's this latest obsession with post numbers? Let's look @ you shall we? 83 posts in only a little over a month? Do not be judging others while your doing the same thing haye? And why do people suddenly care how many posts one makes in how many days? Don't you guys have a life instead of checking the post number of every xaalimo and faraax and making a comment out of it? Is this how honestly bored you are? Please pick some other hobby to occupy your time...cause those people are entertaing us while u lots are boring us to death with your righteousness, whining, & silly complaints.

I hurry towards the park With a heavy heat and weary legs Catching a glimpse of it through the tall skyline Anticipation builds inside me Until I cant take anymore Im ready to burst but counting the minutes tell I reach my slice of paradise calms me keeps me sane Instinctively I wrap my arms around myself And hang my head further towards my chest With downcast eyes And a grim mouth I ignore the world around me I feel comfortable in my own company And feel intimate with loneliness I need to be by myself To think and at the same time clear my head And to escape the drama unfolding at home Yet again Nearing the gates of my personal heaven I carefully pick up my skirt And break into a run Uncaring of the stares Tossed my way And the whispers that chase My disappearing form With a slump I throw myself across my bench Its carved ebony arms embracing me Like a long lost friend The sun kissed wooden seat warms my aching back As I stretch and let the tension slowly drain from my body With sweet ecstasy the muscles in body relax One by one When I have reached the state I’ve searched for I lazily open my eyes Look around And drink in the beauty around me The awesomeness of God’s creation Amazes me Surrounding my bench in a circle Are full blooming apple trees The fragile, pale pink blossoms blending into white at the tips of the soft petals releases their fragrant perfumes in the air the breeze carries the sweet scent to me and it envelopes me promising summer and good times ahead To the North as far as the eye can see And the mind can conceive Stand proudly the majestic mountains Snowcapped Truly breath-taking Each one magnificent in its own right But together they are glorious Their silent power hypnotizes me I gaze as they gentley touch and tease the cotton candy clouds on their secret journey to the heavens Leaving the bench I head home And notice a slight spring in my step Its hard being mad With such intense beauty Around me

A study conducted by UCLA's Department of Psychiatry has revealed that the kind of face a woman finds attractive on a man can differ depending on where she is in her menstrual cycle. For instance, if she is ovulating she is attracted to men with rugged and masculine features. However, if she is menstruating, or menopausal, she is more prone to be attracted to a man with scissors lodged in his temple and a bat jammed up his @ss while he is on fire. Further studies are pending.

Question: Is a women spiritually inferior to a man?
Seeking Paradise replied to Seeking Paradise's topic in General
Jazakhallah Everyone for your time and help. I greatly benefited from this and my questions have been answered. Sis Wiilo, extra thanks. Very helpful article. -
Is a women spiritually inferior to a man? I ask this because Ive been depressed about some stuff I have been hearing and reading about. Does being born a woman increase your chance of going to hell (women exceed men in hell). Does being a woman automatically mean that you are more sinful? If it is women's nature to be talkative, gossiping, emotional, etc. as some claim---then why are they punished for those same characteristics? Ex. In areas of divorce and witnesses for court, women's mental state or emotional state are brought in as factors. Basically are men rewarded more in Islam and considered spiritually superior? I dont know where I'm going with this......I am just confused and its midnight now. I hope I make sense...and If I dont...I'll try to come back and clarify what I am trying to say.

Sticker Shock A lady walks into a shop that sells VERY expensive Persian rugs. She browses around, then spots the perfect rug and walks over to inspect it. As she bends over to feel the texture of the rug, she farts loudly. Very embarrassed, she looks around nervously to see if anyone has noticed her little accident. As she turns back, there standing next to her is a salesman. "Good day, madam. How may we help you today?" Very uncomfortably she asks, "Sir, what is the price of this lovely rug?" In a rather uppity up, matter of fact tone, the salesman replies, "Madam, this is one of our finest and most expensive rugs. If you farted just by touching it, I quite imagine you will probably shit when I tell you the price. -------- Damn Women Drivers Driving to work this morning on the Interstate, I looked over in the left lane and there was a woman driving 70 miles an hour in a Mustang, with her face up in the rear view mirror putting on her eyeliner. I looked away for a couple of seconds, when I looked back she was half way over in my lane, still putting on that dang makeup. It scared me so bad, I dropped my electric shaver, which knocked the donut out of my other hand. In all the confusion of trying to straighten out the car with my knees against the steering wheel, it knocked my cell phone from my ear, it fell into the coffee between my legs and DISCONNECTED AN IMPORTANT CALL!!!!! Damn Women Drivers! --------- MEN!!!!!! Long but good. The only friction in their marriage was the husband's habit of farting loudly every morning when he awoke. The noise would wake his wife and the smell would make her eyes water and make her gasp for air. Every morning she would plead with him to stop ripping them off because it was making her sick. He told her he couldn't stop it and that it was perfectly natural. She told him to see a doctor; she was concerned that one day he would blow his guts out. The years went by and he continued to rip them off! Then, one Thanksgiving morning as she was preparing the turkey for dinner and he was upstairs sound asleep, she looked at the bowl which had the turkey innards, neck, gizzard, liver and any other spare parts and a malicious thought came to her. She picked up the bowl and quietly crept upstairs to the bedroom and very gently pulled back the bed covers, pulled open the elastic waistband of his underpants and emptied the bowl of turkey guts into his shorts. Some time later she heard her husband wake up with his usual trumpeting, which was followed by a blood curdling scream and the sound of frantic footsteps as he ran into the bathroom. The wife could hardly control herself as she rolled on the floor laughing, with tears in her eyes! After years of torture she reckoned she had gotten him back pretty good. About twenty minutes later, her husband came downstairs in badly stained underpants with a look of horror on his face. She bit her lip as she asked him what was the matter. He said, "Honey, you were right. All these years you have warned me and I didn't listen to you." "What do you mean?" asked his wife. "Well, you always told me that one day I would end up farting my guts out, and today it finally happened. But, by the grace of God, some Vaseline, and these two fingers, I think I got most of them back in."

^^I think she was just clarifying it for you. N-E-Wayz...you guys all need to calm down and take a breathe.

The essence of femininity is for a woman to depend on the man she loves.

Femme, have to agree with you on this one. -
My father is of Clan X And my mother belongs to clan Y I have Grown older Seen much Heard more I forever swallow vicious rumors Fed to me by selfish hands That would surely stab my back When I turn away I am forced to choose sides divide my loyalties as if my love understands boundaries I am a love child With a the seed of hate Sprouting with within my heart Its roots firmly entrenched And hard to rip out Everyday, without delay It grows, branches and spreads like weeds Chocking everything in comes in contact with Forgiveness, peace, tolerance, and love Wither away and fade How could one tiny seed Cause such havoc in the garden of my soul? Because it’s sunlight is my anger For which it reaches for eagerly And I water it daily with my salty tears Unintentionally foolishly I nurture it When I listen to lies And refuse to speak out When I close my eyes To the truth in front of me When I follow popular opinion Instead of the Quran I am a love child Slowly dying inside
