  2. ^^^ QacQaac i second that, dreams will only ever be dreams and nothing more, however willful they may appear be. Sofine talk is cheap and often misused; those with a will to accomplish something need to get up and act on their ambitions advisably today and not next year. Think of it this way; the world will never come to a halt and wait for you to catch that ambition train. I like to think we're here for two purposes, One to worship Allah (SWT), lead our lives according to the sunnah. & secondly to make the most of our lives, to lead a meaningful livelihood (not that living life as a muslim is not meaningful enough), if to accomplish something great which ever way you may envision this, is what you believe will lead you to a more meaningful life... then so be it, all power to you girl. As for me, at this point in my life i'm not sure where destiny will lead me.....hopefully towards my own type of greatness and i'm happy with that. It's easilly arguable that everyone may be destined for greatness......how do you meassure greatness?, and is there a common interpretation of the word?. Like OG_Moti put it, one female may be content with becoming a housewife & maintaining a good home and this may appear to be a form of greatness to one person... whereas to another it may not

OG_girl some funny questions but an OK-ish quiz overall, here are my results; April 3, 2005 Men See You As Choosy Men notice you light years before you notice them You take a selective approach to dating, and you can afford to be picky You aren't looking for a quick flirt - but a memorable encounter It may take men a while to ask you out, but it's worth the wait
  7. Originally posted by The Rendezvous: A Non Muslim Woman Experiments with Hijab I covered up that day out of choice, and it was the most liberating experience of my life. I now see alternatives to being a woman. I discovered that the way I dress dictated others' reaction towards me. It saddens me that this is a reality. It is a reality that I have accepted, and chose to conquer rather than be conquered by it. It was my sexuality that I covered, not my femininity. The covering of the former allowed the liberation of the latter. The Rendezvous... i find the ways in which female sexuality are exploited in everyday western life to be more than saddening, even to the point that the manisfestations of the female body make me sick to my stomach, its a fact of life for those of us living away from their mother-land. I thank Allah at every possible chance for Islam, al'xamdulilaah that this woman has opened her heart to Islam and may others benefit from her experiences. Thank you the topic...i have to say its one of my favourites so far on somaliaonline, and that's pretty good by 3merald's standards

  14. <-----------SHAKES HEAD&TUTS Brothers, talk about outstaying your welcome ladies i think its about time we started a somaliaonline petition to get these section-less brothers of ours their own section (in addition to the Sports section where willo does the female posting on our behalfs) I suggest it be called * MEN?* pretty clever ey &if you must know i consider this idea a masterpiece... so don't go bursting my bubble. So who's with me? i trust the more we express our annoyance of male related posts in the WOMEN section ...the more likely ADMIN may find it in their hearts to give the brothers the *MEN* section
  15. *Mabruuk OG* as for me, i might visit that place called Canada, that is if the family are not coming to the UK, i best buy my ticket before they do
  16. Why is the admission price in MINNEAPOLIS,MN =$10 when in Columbus,Ohio a ticket for the same film costs $8? I wonder what Olol productions are playing at, do they think MINNEAPOLIS somalis are more likely to easily part with their money?
  17. before i forget... 1 baquet style but shorter piece of bread (yuum) freshly baked to eat dillac bilaash with = 1000 shillings. 1000 shillings also gets you a bag of 3 massive ice cubes. nutella chocolate spread = 2-3 dollars (now thats really expesive) detol/dis-infectant = around 2-4 dollars wrigleys chewing-gum (with all the flavours)= close to 1 dollar, its imported the price is unbelievably high for a this brand chewing gum, you can jus as easilly enjoy 7 sticks of gum somali/arab made for 1000 shillings and it tastes just as good. Somali made coca-cola/fanta ect... = 3000 shillings, 5000 if you taking the drink home (2000 shillings for the glass bottle), but if you take back the bottle they pay yu back 2000 shillings for each returned bottle
  18. 1000 somali shillings = 3 lollipops/a chewing gum packet/3 small biscuits 3000 shillings = 1 plastic comb (you kno them big ones for mad hair) 200 thousand shillings (bac-weyn) = expensive catar to be more precise >a large bottle al-baquur/a pair of nice shoes from Bakaaro market, 200-300 (bac-weyn) thousand shillings = maaro to make baati/saako out of, the sewing price not included 10 U.S Dollars = latest fashion jilbaab str8 from Dubai(taliban style) also found at Bakaaro market ^50 thousand shillings = indha-shareer to match new jilbaab 60 - 80 Dollars = average price for the rent of a 4 bedroom house + its own daash/+kitchen& large sitting room>villa style $20 = average monthly electricity 5-10 dollars = almost clean water from a tap/monthly or weekly i'm not sure, don't quote me on this list to be continued, that is if i think of anything else.

Frankly i did'nt take lightly to you suggesting that i have 'HATE' for my fellow somalis particularly when you don't have a shred of evidence to support yur argument or know me at all. To be completely honest i find it quite amusing that yu only picked up on the P.S part; denial not being a river in egypt was a simple joke & garowe never in a million years becoming CAPITAL CITY is my honest opinion, and last time i checked i was entitled to it. Wiil Duco all i ask is that you show me where this 'hate' "for my ppl" as you so put it comes into play.

    POEM

Salamucaleykum,I stumbled across what i think to be a beautiful poem, and want to share it with somaliaonline. I am a Muslim woman Feel free to ask me why When I walk I walk with dignity When I speak I do not lie I am a Muslim woman Not all of me you'll see But what you should appreciate Is that the choice I make is free I'm not plagued with depression I'm neither cheated nor abused I don't envy other women And I'm certainly not confused Note, I speak perfect English Et un petit peu de Francais aussie I'm majoring in Linguistics So you need not speak slowly I run my own small business Every cent I earn is mine I drive my Chevy to school & work And no, that's not a crime! You often stare as I walk by You don't understand my veil But peace and power I have found As I am equal to any male! I am a Muslim woman So please don't pity me For God has guided me to truth And now I'm finally free! Found at: www.jannah.org/sisters

    A Good Woman.

Originally posted by BOB: "a good woman is obedient to her parents & husband" BOB... I APOLOGISE IN ADVANCE IF I AM MISTAKEN&MY ARGUMENT ONLY APPLIES IF YOU INTEND "OBEDIENT" TO MEAN SUBSERVIENT AND PASSIVE WITH NO REAL VOICE IN THE MARRIAGE. Umar ibn Al-Khattab's daughter Hafsa and later the wife of the prophet (sw) loved to discuss issues with her father and loved to discuss every issue with the prophet (sw). Hafsa loved to practice this newly acquired privelege and would argue with the prophet and much often. Refined and kind hearted, he allowed her to say what she thought and this continued for some time, until one day 'Umar ibn Al-Khattab, when speaking to Hafsa's mother, said,"I think I shall do so-and-so". When the lady answered "But it would be better if you did so-and-so" Shocked Umar said "Are you arguing with me woman?" "Why not?" she answered, "Your daughter keeps arguing with the Messenger of Allah until she upsets him for the whole day". Umar put on his cloak and went directly to his daughter's house, when he asked her if this was true she answered; "Indeed, I do" When he was about to chastise such ill-breeding, Muhammad(sw) entered the room and would not allow him to touch her. Before Islam women were not supposed to have opinions of their own or object to anything their lords and masters chose to say. Islam decrees that a woman has the right to think for herself and express her beliefs as men do. She is a free, responsible being before Allah (SWT). Well, i just wanted to share that piece of knowledge with you, and to set the record straight i am not a full blown feminist i like to think of myself as a good muslimah PS please don't feel that i am mis-informed of the husband's rights over his wife i am well informed in that area too.
  25. May Allah (SWT) bless us all good women with good men and vice versa.....AMIN
