Book Review: Ronny drives past the bridge all the time and he always sees a man standing on the bridge waving. One day he sees the man about to jump and stops his car to save him. Only to find out the other man's name is Ronny. The book is littered with characters that I can't help, but think have been recycled from movies and reappropriated. The book is called wide open by Nicola Barker. She has a way of writing that is very bleak and gray. She is discriptive, but her discriptions are like walkling down a dark alley way. They leave a pit in your stomach of something bad that is to come. I felt nauseus the entire time I read the book. But when it came to an end the feeling of nausea eases slightly. All in all I would give the book a 3/5. no scratch that a 2.5/5

I don't know what it is about that question whether it be a job or dating situatuion... but it allways makes me want to lie. And lie terriblly obvious lies at that too.... like "so what do you do?" "Oh I'm an astronaut. But when I have spare time I look for wild jungle flowers that may or may not cure cancer."

Somali's first moved to Dixon cause it was close to the airport... in case they had to make a quick escape. But then like all new immigrants to an area they imported other Somlai's that would have settled elsewhere in Toronto.... "hebel hebel lives there.... we are distant cousins"

He comes to live with K'naan's family in Somalia because his mother (Aunty Asha) passed away. At first he does not speak when he gets to his new home, but later on he breaks his silence after K'naan defends him from Abdirahman and Janune who tease and harass him for not speaking. le sigh one of the things I miss about Toronto is Mercury Espresso Bar
-
I hate Starbucks!!!!!!!!! In Toronto I live in this neighborhood called Leslieville and Leslieville was the last of the downtown gritty hoods. You know the usaul rich f.a.gs and rednecks side by side. And then a starbucks opened up right on the corner of Logan and across the street from the best cup of coffe in T.O might I add. And ever since then I have been willing the building to burn down. And glaring daggers at whoever comes out of there. But back to what I drink...there's this place on Queen just west of Carlaw called Mercury Espresso Bar.... best damn cup of coffee in Toronto. Fair trade and Organic and the best cup they have is the soy, white pepper, honey lattes complete with dark chocolate shavings....mmmmmmmmm

For the leaky eyed female and the sensitive male yes. You just have to wink while rubbing your nose with your fore finger at the store counter. Then they take you to the back where they sell tissues in crates past the martian outdoor gear. Yes, I have those conditions are just as heart breaking. to quote Stephan Colbert: "buying her diamonds say let's exploit Africa all over again."

^^ That's like saying a b.o.m.b is just a material and it all depends on how people use it. NEWSFLASH!: there is only one way to use a b.o.m.b and the same applies to a AK. I dunno know about you but this is one time I am withholding my best b-day wishes.

I saw this wicked amazing documentary last night. Unlike the docs I normally see that are very beautiful visaully and have a hopeful message tied into the sadness and impotent anger. This one was hopeless from the get go and just kept getting worse. By the end I was left with a black and grey picture of this young boys life and the feeling that he had a long shot. it was called the Devil's miner and watching felt like watching someone slowly die. It was about silver mining in Bolivia. The star of the movie was a boy by the name of Basillio who was 14 at the time. When we first meet him he has just finished a double shift at the mine (24 hrs) complete with dynamite. His brother who is 12 years old helps him out. And it just keeps getting worse. I was struck most by what the priest said about these children: "They are like Jesus on the cross all over again and we...can't help them all we can do is watch as they sacrifice themselves for us." I highly recommend it. Rent it with an open mind and a crate of tissues.

okay so there are self-hating Jews ... I guess that leaves room for self-hating Somalis

I thought it was a very beautiful idea as well *thinks to herself* why is it that people defecate all over hopeful ideas and embrace the hopeless just as easily?
