  1. Unfortunately, it seems that Africans need a leader to speak for them. Seems like all Black People do. If its not Mandela, then it must be Malik or Muhammad Ali. The average African or Black person cannot do anything for him/herself. And those put in the positions to help their people? They are too busy burning and killing, feeding their greed with any and everything they take off the people. The people who are too busy trying to survive. That is if they dont burn and kill on their way to the top. I dont know why the Africans cant speak for themselves. Maybe its because they have been repressed for so long that they have forgotten how to use their voice. But what about the Africans in the West? Hhm? What about the fully "educated" (since that matters so much) Africans who live here? What is stopping them from helping their people. Do we need the white man to come in and "save the day"....after he ruined it? If anyone can do something, it will be us. Who have the knowledge and who can get the power..... But no....seems like we need a leader as well....
  2. I, the chairWOMAN of the WOMEN FOR POWER organisation, will lend full support to my SISTERS in any cause they deem worthy. The reason men should be outlawed? Well, they are the cause of everything harmful... MENstrual stress MENopause MENstrual cycle And I will put the organisations money, and resources into fully wiping men off the face of the earth, making them pay back everything they have done to us until they are nothing but crying, sniveling pieces of..... *disappears into daydreams.....*
  3. Black History Month is October in England. And yeah, I celebrate it. There's a lot of conscious stuff that happens that sometimes you may not be able to get to during other times of the year. It's actually quite good. I wonder why Dinkiwinki thinks black people are niggers ? You do know that if you class other black's as that you are classing yourself as one, since all other races can't see the difference between other blacks and Somalians? Not that there is much difference. Oh, and Aren't we all human beings, aren't we all from Adam and Eve??!
  4. Bisinka!! Check this!! I scored a 92% on the "How Somalian are you?" Quizie! Never thought that!

  7. Amazing. Amazing. AMAZING. As a poet this is a jewel of information. Thanks to all who contributed. I love it!
  8. Salaams Wow, so many people loved "The Alchemist"? I'm gonna definitely have to pick up a copy then! I LOVE to read. I go through like a book a day if I dont have to study! OK, one book you have to read is The Good Women Of China by Xinran (I think! Don't quote me on that!) It's an amazing book of several true stories about different women the author interviewed/spoke to when she lived in China. When I read it, I could almost see Somali Women who have suffered, maybe not the same plights, but had the same feelings of loss/unhappiness/suffering. It was so powerful. To this day I've got to take it out and read it every couple of months, and I've had it over years. Anyone else read it?
  9. Thanks for the comment, sis. But its not meant to be about a "one-night stand".   Why do artists always get misunderstood??!! *distraught*
  10. Hershey Kisses Hershey kisses given in sundown rain a sweet pleasure that’s almost like pain and this sweet passion we share is quite insane but then I dont think I’ll see you again I dont want to end this goodbye but there is no us; only space for I and solitude is where I have to fly but how/when you send my soul so high I remember when we laid all night so right, felt like I’d died gone to heaven that night but my heart had to tumble/from that blissful height you…send it to Irrespective of our differences and our past I want to create a love that lasts I want to let you live inside my love make you the star if our love cast but…such a fantasy/ is sadly not meant to be Yet you settled inside my soul with a supple ease/took complete control and before I could inhale your love was in here…made me whole But the worst is still to come/the reaching of our end "Goodbye" is such a hard word to say, my friend I fear you will never truly understand what I feel but even if we part...our passion will always be real ~~~

  14. Nefertiti, I am currently working on my problem...but I can't seem to make up my mind on when to do it...hhmm.... I've also realised...I lack the energy to go after what I want... I lack the energy to tell the voices in my head to "shut up!" I lack the energy to finish my book, eventhough the voices are increasing their violent words toward me. Lastly, I lack energy. To do anything. For instance right now...I...have..to... *runs out of energy*
  15. Oh, here we go again. From QQ: i am not saying somali men are perfect. but u should take easy on the brothers who sit on coffe shops. u sould consider that these men that u see sitting on coffee shops were engineers, doctors, pilots, senators in their country. but the country got destroyed and came here to live as immigrants, who probably have to work either in taxi caps. or own xawaalad, or xalaal meat place. u should know they are going through things. it is not fair that u judge some ppl, who have more knowledge than u like that. u should consider everything then be harsh on them. yes there some lazy bumps who don't wanna do anything. but every culture has those ones. That is not a *censored* excuse. They are going through "things"? What things?? Please, I beg of you, inform me! Could it be they are too lazy to go and find a job? Could it be they are too inflated with their own importance to take a look at their children? Could it be that they dont give a d@mn about those children (who they can't stop bringing into the world) to show them a better way? To show them hard work, which will enable those children to become doctors, etc? And if they held such great jobs and were so educated, why on EARTH did that war start? WHY-OH-WHY do they still hold onto their useless tribal views that actually KILLED our culture, our TRUE culture? I dont understand why some here choose to pull the wool over their eyes. Choose to glorify everything. The reason why some sisters bash somali men is because THEY WONT ADMIT THEIR MISTAKES!!! Other races might, but soomalida? Oh, no, they're bleeding perfect! I'm going to watch Location Location Location on C4...thinking of moving...you see.... *wanders off*
  16. Well, since I'm perfect in almost every way, I was hard pressed to find something I lack...but I suffered and toiled and lost sleep and weight and my hair and had to take some Prozac to stay awake so I could finally think of something....so...brace yourselves... I lack the component that enables me to make up my mind! Sound familiar, Nefertiti?
  17. Marriage is a choice. That's why you say "I do" not "I have to" (notice that this is an example. Please dont jump all over me and proclaim me to be a kaafir *jeez*) Since this is a thread that encourages us to share our personal views, I'll share mine. To me, marriage is not neccesarily a great thing. I agree with Jasmiine. Marriage is work, and is known to make you often more unhappy than you were before. Why else are the divorce rates so high, even amongst Somali households? And even if there is no divorce, no one can say to me that the majority of Somali marriages are happy, stable constitutions. In fact, a recent study showed that the two happiest groups of people are married men and single women, so what does that say? I've known people who never got married (and yes, I'm talking both Muslim and Somali people, so dont think I'm talking about any other race) and were perfectly happy with their life. Its a personal thing. No one can tell you whether marriage will make you happy. What if you marry on the advice of your parents/friends and end up miserable from age 20ish (since that seems to be the requisite age of getting married) 'till "death do you part" ? (again, only an example!!). That was my £2000 (a bit more than a twu-pence...lol)
  18. Ok, well...I took that test.... Your sanity is wearing thin Figures Also, I thought the summer was only boring for students? Unless you lot are like this all year long.... Dang...
  19. lil friendly advice from the LayZieOne Some of you pple have no business talking about fashion, much less coming up with new fall fashions or ways to wear / re-model certain materials... It's true, some of you have no fashion sense, therefore do yourselves a favour and just keep on moving What an inteligent response! And totally in accordance with the supportive and constructive conversation some where having!! Lazy: Get a life
  20. Ladies, ladies, you're bringing some good ideas here. I'm big time into afrocentric fashions, but I can't stand the whole dirac thing, its too impractical for me. Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful, but I'd prefer the dirac design (some of the calmer ones, not multi-coloured like someone said) in a skirt? Especially wrap skirts in the summer.... Also, whoever said they're too thin is right. Some thicker material would be lovely. I do know a few people who can make skirts and dirac (firstly, my mom), so its just a case of looking around. Go to you local seamstress. Good luck.
  21. *shakes her head* There's some "funny" replies on here for sure! What's all this "allowing" business? Doesn't your husband have a mind of his own? Would you like him dictating who you can be friends with? Frankly, I wouldn't give a d@mn. If you can't trust him, why you with him? I myself have several close friends, both male and female. I've never had a problem being friends with someone from the opposite sex, in fact, sometimes I prefer it. There's none of that silly jealousy thing that a some (I said "SOME") females have. Also, the guys I know have a straight-forward, no-nonsense manner that I quite like (in a FRIENDSHIP WAY!!!). Why do some people assume that being friends with someone of the opposite sex will lead to having sex? Ever heard of CONTROL? Or are those who cant keep that friendship just plain on the lookout for some "nookie" all the time??? But I must say, my absolute best friend is a guy. And oh *shock gasp horror* he's not even SOMALIAN!!! (Dang, I must really be bad  )
  22. Nefertiti, thank you so much for your compliments. I'm blessed to know you in real life and have your drive behind me every step of the way. You better be there when I blow into London! Love you so much and thank you for being there for me. QUANTUM LEAP, sister. Thank you. I hope to get a lot more Somalians put on the map because our talent is sorely being wasted. I hope to see you at one of my performances some day (if you're UK based!) Thanks again. To all others, where y'all at??
  23. First of all: Ameenah, great topic. Originally by 508: however I only blame women, cause Somali men don’t beat up women, it is a shameful act in Somalia if you beat up a female, so if the man is not performing his duties, she can walk away and don’t look back, instead they choose to complain and make fuss out it. Somali men don't beat up women? What planet are you from? Now, I dont know where you live, but I've seen and heard of plenty of cases where Somali men beat up women. Again, it's the classic "pick-and-choose what you want of Islam" case. A lot of people (both male and female) are not willing to behave according to ALL parts of Islam. It's a sad fact that Somali men DO beat up women. But hey, so do a lot of men of other races. And I'm pretty sure some women beat men (yes, yes, it's a fact). Why, every time we question our people, everyone pretends we are Angels and held to a higher standard? Being Somali does not stop you from making mistakes!!!. Getting back to the original question, NO I do not think that a women is worth only her womb. As someone said in a previous reply (I forget who) in Islam, the bearer should be saved before the baby. What does that say? Why judge a woman according to whether she can give birth? We might as well judge men based on their "sperm-powers." If they're "shooting blanks", are they then worthless? People seem to forget that it takes two to make a baby. I'm pretty sure males wouldn't like it if they were considered useless if they couldn't get women pregnant, right?
  24. Greetings everyone. To all poets, this is an invite to come out of the woods and show our fellow people that Somali people have bucket loads of talent, no matter what field you specialise in. I see plenty of poets on this site who have a great talent, but do not share it with anyone. So I say this, it's time our people woke up from this comatose state and showed all others that Somalians can deliver something else than a crazy fellow in the Big Brother house ( I know you were all watching ) . How come Asian people can get it together and display their culture, from foods to clothes to music? In fact, plenty of Asian-themed songs are in the charts. Now I'm not saying that a Somali artist should hit number one next week (oh, how I long for that day ). I am just tired of going to poetry slams/gatherings/festivals and being the only one to represent my part of Africa/the world. If you have a talent to share, be it singing, art (in any form) writing, music, dance or anything else at all, please get in contact, ESPECIALLY if you live in Birmingham, UK. There's a lot that happens in this city, and I would love to go see a Somali poet one day, doesn't matter what your message is. It's so sad that a culture as rich as ours is being wasted and lost, all because we are too busy with whatever else (mostly killing ourselves) to salvage our heritage. I'm not saying I know a lot (in fact, I know very little) but I'm learning, and I feel it's time we did more to portray our country in a positive light. So to all artists, if you want a good place to start try The Drum . It's a great centre that holds lots of events. And if there are artists who already hold gatherings, feel free to send info my way. And if our brothers & sisters in other countries already do this, feel free to give us some pointers. Salaamz
