Little Mogadishu, Addis Ababa... I saw the real Somali embassy too, Alpha And it's off to kililka shanaad in 8 hours, inshaAllah. I'm told I can get an internet stick when I'm in Jijiga that will work rurally, so I should be back online within a few days

Argh it is almost 3:30pm and I'm STILL HERE waiting for relatives to pick me up, what a waste of a day  I was ready to head out for the Piazza area at noon when they called me to say they're coming in the early afternoon, and I've been waiting since.

Wadani;961139 wrote: Do women deserve their God given and natural rights such as most of those mentioned above by others? Ofcourse they do. But should the natural order of of things among Somalis be turned on it's head to mimic the athiestic and morally bankrupt feminist social experiment of the West? Hell no, unless we want rampant teen pregnancies, divorce rates above 70%, men reduced to boys due to loss of agency, and professional women in their 30's and 40's looking for marriage without any luck as men refuse to be castrated by masculinized women already well past their prime, who did as they pleased with who ever they pleased during their 20's thanks to sexual liberation. These are just some of the effects of western feminism. So be careful what u people wish for. Reeyo, by equal do u mean there are no physical, mental and emotional differences between men and women? Because that's how I understand the term equal, hence my reservations. You're more intelligent than this.

Thanks for the info nuune, I'm looking forward to my time in the Somali kilil Alpha Blondy;961206 wrote: ^ LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL you chew khat? you're alright, you know. i like. i like very much. i've learnt so much about your personality, ma istidhi? i insist we chew together in my house when you come to Hargeisa. :p:p LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL...... You're falling in love with me, it's making me uncomfortable dee And no I can't chew with you, out of respect for ayeyo and my gossip-y relatives I must behave like a proper Somali girl when I'm in town loool. So my relatives here have found me, I was hoping to go out on my own today but I am now an unwilling qadho guest and some cousins are coming by to pick me up. People watching again in the lobby until they show up, it is.

Alpha Blondy;961199 wrote: LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL@saffz, are you a cougar/post-MILF? how can you allow your person to be unhinged by an axmaar like that, inabti? lol bal what's wrong with you that you think someone who works at the place lighting up a shisha pipe for me is anything more than that? And why aren't you more bothered by the fact I was with sitting on the floor with a bunch of Amhara men chewing qat? lmao Alpha... anyway I should get ready and head out so I can be back in the evening, I have to be at the airport for my flight to Jijiga at 6am tomorrow.

Alpha Blondy;961070 wrote: i'm sorry, but this 'doesn't' count as an actual discussion. y'all sat there in the Sheraton and drank ethical trade boona, somaha? these diaspora Ethiopian professionals you speak off have had too much injera made with GM yeast, which perhaps explains the civility in their tone.......hence why they use terms like ''borrowed''. the Ethiopians, i know, have 'extremists' learnings in matters pertaining to axmaari nationalism. they actually think ahmed gurey was axmaari........... can you believe that? No, I went to some spot (Olympia area, I think) that looked and felt straight out of Somalia... qayil rooms you rent for the evening where you're supplied with qat, shisha and shaah, fadhi carbeed seating and everything. I told you I have to get away from the Sheraton every day dee It was a civil conversation because they knew better, but it was interesting to see a group of educated people still spout the same BS when it comes to history and politics.

Reeyo;961043 wrote: Observable and empirically verifiable facts? What are we discussing here, a scientific experiment or Somali social attitudes towards women? My observation and personal experience is all I've got mate. I fought tooth and nail for my postgraduate education, my travel experiences and a lot of other rights in my personal life. I believe our mothers and elderly females need to recognize themselves as oppresses instead of being obsessed with maintaining the shallow image of the obedient Muslim girl that breed for to be pregnant and maintain a household. And what is with this fear of this word, equal? every man shakes in his boots when a Muslim female mentions the obvious, I am equal to you. Well said, Reeyo.

I care cambuulo, sorry to hear that Alpha Blondy;961040 wrote: you're better off asking the axmaar than our saffz. This is true. However I did end up at a shisha and qayil session with an interesting mix of diaspora Ethiopian professionals, and we talked a lot about historical and political stuff that helped confirm to me that Ethiopian nationalism is even more delusional and irrational than I thought. One guy was talking about reclaiming Djibouti as part of Ethiopia, because Ethiopia only let France "borrow" it. Someone else told me Somalis "ruined" qat's reputation in 1991, when the Americans associated Somalis' night attacks with the stimulant (I'm pretty sure he learned that one from Black Hawk Down). I didn't say much though, it's always a difficult place to be in with certain crowds because you never know who will remember you and what you've said, and whether that will make things difficult down the road.

lol I ended up somewhere more random than Gerji tonight, you would stop talking to me Alpha

Alpha Blondy;960687 wrote: ^ we're on the same GMT, dee. how comes you've been absent from these boards? I thought about that last time you said "I'm out, y'all" and instead of the usual ~7pm I'd see that post, it was like 3am I haven't yet adjusted to the time, I passed out around 8pm and now it's almost 4am and I'm up. I have internet access but I've been going out during the day to explore the city and meet up with folks I know in town for lunch/dinner, so I haven't been on SOL too much... but good news, it looks like even the smallest of tuulo in kililka shanaad will have internet access, I just need to pick up one of those USB internet sticks while I'm here for my laptop and I'm good to go

I made a similar thread based on the Schomburg exhibit MoonLight posted above a while back, and it did not go well lol.

Wadani;960816 wrote: Equal how? and in what ways? Throwing around the amorphous term 'equal' without backing it up with concrete observable and emprically verifiable facts is meaningless. You're really going there with your argument?

Haatu;960734 wrote: Safferz, what were the Axmaar saying? I only caught a little bit, one woman asking a man whether they are Somalis sitting there, and they kept looking over. But then again, I was people watching too so I won't assume it was anything but normal curiosity about the folks in the lobby

Alpha Blondy;960717 wrote: :D i could swear the Sheraton is $450 per night? you staying there is ridiculous, ruunti. why don't you stay in the million other decent hotels in town. balse, this is neither surprising nor shocking. in FACT, this is expected of ciyaal who were born with 'a sliver spoon in their mouths' .. i'd very surprised if you understood a single word of their conversation. unless, of course, you're insinuating your Amharic is that good? LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL It's not cheap, but it's not $450 a night either, though some rooms are that much and more. I'm not the one paying for it so I don't mind indulging during my time in Addis dee I'm understanding a lot more Amharic than I expected to, which is nice.

Alpha Blondy;960705 wrote: ^ gerji is famous for two things......Somali-land 'embassy' and khat. sow ma agartid......i told you these SL landers are hopeless..... where are you staying? don't tell me the intercontinental? that's where the 'somali diplomats' on the begging-bowls circuit, usually go..... LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL Intercontinental kulaha. I'm staying at the Sheraton, seems to be a popular place to be seen so there's a lot of traffic here in the lobby, which is currently packed full with people dressed up just to have an overpriced coffee. And I am wearing sweatpants I moved so I can't hear the Somali meeting anymore (which just got a little bigger), but in an odd twist, the Amhara next to me are talking about the Somalis.

Alpha Blondy;960693 wrote: please don't tell Ban Ki Moon, adigo mudane. .............what the hell were you doing in gerji? lol I go everywhere dee, and I needed to get as far away from this stuffy hotel as possible. But now I'm back in my hotel lobby and people watching, eavesdropping on what I think are Somali diplomats next to me (no one knows I'm Somali here ).

Look what I found in Addis dee...

Misogyny underpins patriarchy and the belief in male dominance. It's BS, and there's nothing natural about male supremacy.

What's natural about misogyny?
