  4. Rob Ford crack scandal: Councillors to strip mayor of power By: Robyn Doolittle City Hall, Published on Tue Nov 05 2013 It was a stunning admission that took Rob Ford’s own staff by surprise: “Yes I have smoked crack cocaine.” For one of his most loyal allies, Councillor Denzil Minnan-Wong, it was the breaking point. “I think he’s lost the moral authority to lead,” Minnan-Wong said moments after Ford’s impromptu press conference. “We’re in unchartered territory.” As a member of the mayor’s cabinet-like executive committee, Minnan-Wong is a leader among council’s conservative faction. He has been critical of Ford throughout the mayor’s various blunders and scandals, but always remained loyal to the agenda and ultimately the mayor himself. Now, even Minnan-Wong appears in favour of curbing Ford’s power. At the next council meeting, Minnan-Wong will table a motion calling for Ford to “apologize for misleading the City of Toronto as to the existence of a video,” which appears to show him smoking crack. Other councillors are considering more aggressive motions. “Some councillors have been talking cutting the mayor’s office budget so dramatically that it wouldn’t be able to function,” said Councillor Jaye Robinson, “but I don’t think that has the support to get through council.” Council is considering passing a symbolic confidence motion, but it would be a “slap on the wrist” without teeth, Robinson noted. More likely, city council will pass a series of motions stripping Ford of his power. Left-wing councillor John Filion has already put forward his plan. Filion has recommended that council prevent the mayor from being able to “appoint and dismiss” the chairs of the standing committees as well as the deputy mayor position. The idea is that this would give councillors in positions of power the freedom to oppose Ford.
  5. How cute, Apophis knows how to use his backspace key. I'm not sure why anyone bothers responding to your posts, you never have anything to say and you are deliberately obtuse. No one cares for your knee-jerk defenses or what you think our mayor was smoking in the video, and it's strange that you feel this invested in a political issue taking place in Canada.

SomaliPhilosopher;984606 wrote: you are getting quite repetitive and dull bud. we get it you found Stalin, great, I don't think he understands Marxist-Leninist thought, because his opinions on SOL tend to lean to the opposite end of the political spectrum and I have yet to see him post anything remotely Communist. He should start describing himself as a neocon or neofascist for accuracy.

Rob Ford : 'Yes, I have smoked crack cocaine.' Published on Tue Nov 05 2013 “Yes, I have smoked crack cocaine,” Mayor Rob Ford admitted at a surprise news conference just after noon. “I am not an addict,” he told the media. “I wasn’t lying. You didn’t ask the correct questions,” Ford explained to why the admission was so long in coming. “You guys kept referring to alcohol,” he told the media. “I want everybody in the city to see this tape. I don’t even recall there being a tape. I want to see the state I was in. “No, I don’t do drugs.” Ford said he smoked crack about a year ago. “I don’t even remember. Probably in one of my drunken stupors. You guys have seen the state I’ve been in.” The admission comes six months after Ford said at a May 24 news conference, “I do not use crack cocaine. Nor am I an addict of crack cocaine.” Since that May news conference, Ford has said many times he does not use crack. The news conference came a week after two Star reporters disclosed that they had seen a clear video of Mayor Ford smoking what appeared to be crack from a glass pipe, calling Justin Trudeau, now Liberal leader, a “fag” and his high school football players “f------ minorities.” At that news conference, Ford said he would not comment on a video “that I have never seen or does not exist.” It was only last Thursday that Toronto police Chief Bill Blair confirmed the video does exist and it does show what the Star’s Kevin Donovan and Robyn Doolittle reported. Blair’s news conference followed release of half a police document about months of surveillance of Ford and alleged drug dealer Alexander “Sandro” Lisi. Lisi was charged Oct. 1 with drug charges and on Thursday with extortion related to “threats” to recover the video. Breaking news so I'll post articles as they appear...
  8. I'm a little surprised Cadale, I would have guessed you would lean extrovert. But then again, your poetry and songwriting must come from somewhere, right? AfricaOwn;984536 wrote: Alpha is the type of dude that get cyber bullied and threatens to call the cops (SOL mods), don't be saying that stuff. All geeks often have huge e-persona, this thread confirmed who Alpha is in person. Do you mean my post? It was tongue in cheek, and Alpha was obviously playing along by pretending to take offense. We did meet in Hargeisa this summer like I described and hung out a few times the week I was there... he's a great guy, wicked smart, and really funny too. There are no awkward silences with Alpha (and he paid for the tibs), I was just messing with him.
  9. Alpha Blondy;984518 wrote: who said i was mad? i see you're developing an extroverted persona. this ''in-your-face-isms'', loudness and brashness wa laga ficanyahay, you know. LOOOL ruunta iska sheeg....you're really a pseudo-introvert and a sell out, somaha? ;p Introverted doesn't mean I'm not blunt and direct with people, dee. You're mistaking shyness for introversion, introverts can still be assertive and to the point
  10. Alpha Blondy;984514 wrote: i can write disparagingly as well, ma garatay? you made me look like a middle aged man on the verge of being caught with child pornography, dee. WTF is up with that? i aint that bad eh?

Alpha Blondy;984499 wrote: i hardly make eye-contact with folks. you'll probably never believe me when i say the real Al is a soft-spoken, polite and mildly engaging sort of person. not mention that i posses several further 'miskeen' traits. lakinse, i could probably kill someone without a moment's hesitation, if i had to, that is....dee. introverted folks are not nice. they are quite for a reason. you cannot trust them. i speak from experience when i say they are not daacad in their opinions, values, actions and the niceties they present to folks :p. lakinse, extroverted folks can't not be taken serious because of their consistent loudness, khiyaale and group-based activities. their behaviour is prone to unpredictability, inconsistency and mood swings. they probably couldn't survive on their own....also they are defined by folks. anyways, folks to have control their mouth and actions, somaha, dee? what do you think? I can confirm... Alpha mustered the e-courage to ask me out for dinner when he learned I was in Hargeisa again this summer, but when he picked me up and we settled down at a local Ethiopian spot, he couldn't even make eye contact or get a sentence out because he was so flustered. As an introvert myself, I panicked at his inability to carry conversation (two people can't be listeners, after all), so we finished our tibs in complete silence until I asked the waiter for the bill in my broken Amharic. Conveniently Alpha stepped out at that exact moment, having "left" his phone in the car, so I paid the bill and asked him to take me home. It was certainly one of the most awkward first dates I've ever had, but I gave him another chance later in the week when he begged me to hang out again via SOL PMs. As he opened up to me over time, he became more personable and easier to talk to, though I know much of that has to do with the sheer quantities of qat and shisha we were ingesting at his house. Who would have thought Alpha's garden is actually a real hobby of his? I even saw all the books and furniture he's collecting for his library and research centre. So beyond his trollish SOL exterior, Alpha is actually a smart, kind guy with a great sense of humour, ee sida ula soco. Alpha and I have been the best of friends ever since
  12. Best of luck to Abdi Warsame during the election tomorrow, we're all rooting for him

SomaliPhilosopher;984483 wrote: Of course 16 is a child to you given your urban dweller status in West Philadelphia immigrated and raised squatting on uncle toms playground where you spend most of your days. 16 is a child when you define a 16 year old as a mily cirus idoler, cootie hungry vampire, "help me cook cereal" kid.. war how do you compare that to the 16 year old Somali girl who just built her family an aqal or the 16 year old hafiz leading tarawih. 16 is a child as defined by the West. But anyways the West knows best somaha mr.west phili? 16 is young even back home, regardless of their responsibilities in the household. I spent quite a bit of time around young women this summer when I was in kililka 5aad and I was struck by how similar they are to teenagers here personality wise, some even seemed younger to me. Still gossiping about each other, giggling and talking about boys, and I even saw three girls about that age gang up on and beat up another girl for making fun of their clothes. It was like watching Mean Girls There are also a host of complications linked to having children at that age, like obstetric fistula, which is a major problem associated with young marriage age in the Horn (in kililka 5aad, there were girls marrying at 13 and 14, and I even met a 16 year old on her second marriage). There are other problems related to marriage at such a young age as well, like education and economic security. But I think this is all a different topic altogether.
  14. Khayr;984466 wrote: Saff, What was the name of Sheldon's girlfriend in the show? You remind me of her but you fit on the more green and liberal spectrum. I don't think that people fit on any one side of the fence. Most people are average and have a slight dominance of personality type over another. I don't have a TV, but I googled "Sheldon's girlfriend" and found this  I think I'm cooler lol
  15. Khayr;984467 wrote: ^ Can we appropriately rapists people with a sexual interest too? Does anyone have a sexual interest? Leathers and whips anyone? lol Do you see my point? Using the word sexual interest instead of illness or criminal act, gives acknowledgement to pedos. That's what a paraphilia is, though -- an abnormal sexual interest, which is why the DSM classifies it as a disorder and not a sexual orientation (which this thread is incorrect about). The APA has nothing to do with the law, they are interested in psychology and understanding disordered thoughts and behaviours. And just because someone has this disorder doesn't necessarily mean it translates into behaviour, so not all pedophiles commit criminal acts.
  16. Tallaabo;984445 wrote: Is it that white dude? It's not SP, he's a joker Not the white dude either... this guy is Somali. White people understand that proposing out of the blue and professing your love for someone is psycho lol
  17. Khayr, how can you define what a pedophile is without using the term "sexual interest"? I don't see how that validates anything about their thoughts or behaviours, it's simply description. A 17-year-old wuu ka caqli badnaan karaa a 21-year-old, wuuna ka akhlaaq wanaagsanaan karaa. Same with a 15-year-old ka xishmad iyo edeb wanaagsanaato mid 23 jir ah. MMA that may well be true, but I was talking about the laws here in wadamada galbeed. "Muslim ayaan ahay" won't work if you find yourself on trial in Canada for statutory rape for your relationship with a 16 year old girl lol.
  18. lol Haatu I'm fine, I'm young and I'm enjoying not being committed to anyone right now. I mean I woke up this morning in my own apartment, sleeping diagonally in my queen sized bed dee, I'm not giving that up anytime soon Marriage isn't on my radar and likely won't be for years, and I've always thought it would be something I'll consider when things progress to that with the right person, not something randomly put on the table by a guy friend who gave me no indication he even had feelings until now lol. SomaliPhilosopher;984433 wrote: ^^war saffy why are you exposing me like that on the web!!! It is not that I can't do it, I can and I do, I just find it boring and draining. If it was not for work, I wouldnt see or talk to other people outside of immediate family and friends. lol Haha I liked what she said in the talk about how no one is complely introverted or extroverted, so maybe you're more in between than you think. I was a shy, quiet kid but as an adult I'm no longer shy and I've developed some extrovert attributes too. But at the end of the day, I still prefer my alone time and doing things on my own, and I find people exhausting lol.
  20. Alpha Blondy;984419 wrote: listen wisely. congrats. lol why are you congratulating me, I'm not even considering it. And I'm annoyed now because he thinks my opinion will change and he won't move on and let me be, I woke up to some strange texts this morning.
  21. I got a marriage proposal tonight. It was an awkward and unexpected conversation
