Smh, tonight's episode of Law & Order SVU is based on Somalis.
-
I should have applied...
-
Chrome issue I was having has been fixed, thanks admin
-
Morons struggling over power at the expense of Somali children in Toronto. Why do Somalis do this? They are misinformed and have no real critique, yet they are hell-bent on destroying the school board's Somali task force because they're not on it. If I had known about this protest, I would have shown up just to ask them what the hell they hope to accomplish by attempting to cut down the efforts being made to curb the high dropout rate for Somali students in Toronto.

@Admin said: Safferz just sent us a note that says this: In case anyone is having the same issue -- try a different browser, Chrome was giving me problems ('submit' button at the bottom right wasn't visible) but Safari with an expanded window is working.
-
I like it, but I wasn't able to post using my usual browser (Chrome) and have to use Safari, otherwise the 'submit' button at the bottom right doesn't appear on my screen. But I let the admin know and he's on it.

I haven't read too much about it so I don't know if that's true, but that's what they're angry about. lool the mods edited out the clan names in my post I don't know how useful SOL rules against clan names are in threads like this, it's almost impossible to talk about what's going on without referring to it and it's necessary to explain what the grievances are that are leading to these protests.

Three flight cancellations later, I'm finally home for the holidays Toronto is still in pretty bad shape after the ice storm, but the ice covered trees are so beautiful! This is how is the view from my window, out into my parents' yard:

Thanks, happy new year to you too

I was thrilled when I found out this little secret. Please dismis me as some over excited old uncle (I classify myself as old nothing beats 33). It's okay STOIC, I see that you've edited I'm not terribly concerned with anonymity and I know you're not the only person to have pieced together enough info to figure me out, but I don't need every SOLer knowing who I am either lol.

Reeyo;992025 wrote: lol walle I feel for you hun. Once you get home do what I discovered this holidays, binge-watching! I am in between old seasons of the Gilmore girls and breaking bad... Cheer up. I'll be alright, trying to focus on the positive -- at least I live here, I'm not one of the people who has to sleep in the airport tonight I've actually been off for a few days now, I started binge watching earlier in the week as well... I started and finished Scandal in two days (two seasons + the 10 episodes of season three so far), and I'm currently watching House of Cards so I will get back to that tonight. I'm waiting until I get to Toronto to start Breaking Bad with my sister

Thanks Reeyo. They just cancelled the rest of the flights to Toronto, so heading back to my apartment with all my luggage now ($40 cab ride each way ), hopefully I'll have better luck tomorrow. Ordering Thai food to comfort myself, not like I have food in my fridge anyway
-
I'm stuck at the airport on the busiest travel day of the year trying to fly to Toronto, which is in the midst of a severe ice storm and state of emergency, they're saying the runways are too icy and planes are frozen at the airport... my flight earlier today was cancelled, as was my evening flight I rescheduled for. So making a last ditch effort to get on the last flight tonight, if not I'll have to find a flight tomorrow that isn't full. I'm positive they'll lose my luggage in this mess too. I JUST WANT TO GO HOME

STOIC why is this qarxis necessary

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought it would be someone posting that he had died But glad to see that's not the case... I hope his Dewey lectures at Columbia are made available online soon, sounds really interesting.

A few indications why it's a fake letter: - the letterhead is Ville de Quebec aka Quebec City, an entirely different municipality about four hours away from Ottawa -- had the person who photoshopped the letter known French, they would have known to use letterhead from Gouvernement du Quebec not Ville de Quebec (ville means city). - Ottawa and Hull border each other, but they are two different municipalities in two different provinces. Officially, there is no such thing as Ottawa-Hull and therefore no such thing as a "Department of Welfare and Social Services of Ottawa Hull." - Welfare/social services are provincial programs, not municipal, and therefore fraud cases would not involve municipal police either. - If fraud was committed in the City of Ottawa, it would be fraud committed in the province of Ontario and have *nothing* to do with Hull or the province of Quebec. The ministry would then be the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services.

Have you read Outliers? Because reading through your post it seems right up your street. Malcolm Gladwell goes through the working habits of those working at world-class level. It has become a little cliched recently with the 10000 hour rule and all but its a good read! I have! He's a really interesting and engaging writer and speaker, plus he's Canadian so what's not to love
