What a poignant story!!...life in the western world is indeed a "tug of war" for many Somali teens and adults for that matter. I guess all we can do is pray for them...may Allah steer them towards the right (Islamic) path and ease their journey of self-discovery.

Salam, Is it permissible, diinean of course, for a couple to find out the sex of the fetus? your replies will be much appreciated

If you can only pick one word to describe yourself, what will it be?
Haneefah replied to BORN_BRANIAC's topic in General
I would say tough...so i hear from everyone around me...can sure have its advantages sometimes though -
why do broke people buy the most expensive things?
Haneefah replied to BORN_BRANIAC's topic in General
Or when they buy BM's when they're working in a factory or making $13/hr, helloo!! Obviously because of stupidity and lack of understanding the purpose of life!! -
You're right, beauty doesn't depend on skin tone but some somalis (esp guyz) have this pre-conceived notion that beauty comes with lightness and i stress guyz because i've seen many pretty light-skinned girls who r with very dark guyz which tells me that most girls are not too concerned about it. As far as i'm concerned, i have nothing against darker skinned ppl...in fact i think there are a lot of very attractive girls and guyz who have darker skin, but i have to confess, when it comes to guyz...i'm more attracted to lighter (+ cute of course) ones and that's not because of prejudice but merely because of taste! PS. Cutie...if i were ur friend and u described me like that...honey,u'd be dead meat

Being an only girl with 5 older brothers (i know the girls r going  ) i wouldn't even dare mentioning dating to them let alone dating their friends... some bro's are just waaaay too protective and can never see beyond u being their baby sister, wuts up with that guyz? Going back to the point...my youngest brother somehow has the cutest friends, and i swear, even the wildest ones lower their gaze when they see me...and i (being a quiet person) have to go outa my way to say Hello, go figure!...SO it's a big NO NO area for them...and to come to think of it, i wouldn't be very comfortable with them either for obvious resons.

SUCKER!!...it was so not funny after few clicks

Shayhem & Muraad, ala dhib badnidinaa!! lol...take it easy on the poor girl guyz, she was just trying to express her point of view...besides what good does personal attacks bring, afterall the beauty of a debate is the disagreement and being able to see everyone's perspective about the subject. Ameenah...tell these ppl dee!

Salam So are u guyz serious about this thing that Daroods have descended from arabs?...i mean i always thought it was some lame story some ppl made up when they didn't know our real roots. So then where are the other somalis from...like the Dir ppl? About the Eritrians, it's actually quite surprising to hear that we have common ancestors...no wonder they always mistaken me for one of them...i guess from now on i won't be so offended when they do. Horn, couldn't agree with u more sweety, indeed Islam comes before anything!

Hey Ladiif, it was very sweet you to basically give me the whole list of well known singers, i hope i find time but i do know some of them esp Mooge, Tubeec have written amazing songs...and yea, i wouldn't mind seeing your taste and checking out your special list of "heeso la xulay" Aplus...hahaha, buddy, i might not be up-to-date with my somali music, but i know this much...it was sooo not Tubeec's song!! Now, it looks like the joke is on you!

loool....i just had to laugh at your first comment....watch out, he might just jump on ya signatures...there's so many good ones especially those that have to do with Islam...but can't quite reacall any right now.

Is PM a real condition and do women use it as an excuse?
Haneefah replied to QUANTUM LEAP's topic in General
It's a condition that exists as Burwaaqo mentioned and obviously it affects every woman differently because of physiological reasons. However some women might take it to the extreme, but the idea of using it as an "excuse" is kinda silly and many would not do that i think. But seriously...some symptoms are extremely painful and some guyz may see it as a joke, but wallah, trust me...you men DO NOT wanna experience it!...i happen to be one of those ppl with bad symptoms, and that's the only time i sincerely wish if i were a man (just momentarily) -
Looool@boycott, that was funny , thanks for speaking for us...gotta luv ya. Yea baaaby, newbies rock!! To be honest, i think this whole issue of newbies vs oldies is a bit lame...LAKKAD,u could have done better than that bro! and to the rest of you, what's the big deal...let these bro's and sis's express themselves...afterall, what attracted us to the site is the atmosphere that you oldies have already created for us....so show some luv will ya!!

I couldn't help but notice someone saying, Cumar dhuule ilahay ha u naxriisto...is he dead?...Gee there goes my dream of him singing the "hooyoo" song at my wedding..lol. (if he is, may he rest in peace) I never was into somali music but my mom is big fan of classics, like magool, hibo nuuro, tubeec etc. So i kinda know a lot oldie songs because of her singing around the house or even for me when i'm in bad mood...funny thing is i don't know who the singers are to many of the songs i know But i kinda started this yr..check this out..i go to this music store in Toronto, of course not having a clue what i wanna buy, and the sales person(funny xamaraawi guy) goes to me "abaayo, fanka maa cusubtahay?" OUCH! my girl and i just cracked up and i go...no aboowe cuz i still havent joined!! so that was my little experience of my 1st time buying somali music

OG...Gotta luv that calan, lol...just wanted to say hi to everyone. And yea, those pic's look good! MMA...you crack me up. Guyz, I'm having difficulties with comprehending the concept of TIME, or the speed of time rather...i've been off almost for 2 weeks and can't think of one productive thing that i have done during this time...even worse...i don't feel like i've gotten one bit of rest...weird huh?

Proudsista, sweety if you try and pay attention to what brotha Che has posted, you will see that he asked if somalia was better off dividing into individual states. And i merely stated that in light of what has happened in our country and what is still going on...that we would be better off with anything that would bring peace and harmony to our people...even if it comes in the form of separation. I understand the fact that some of you believe that somalia will be more susceptible to outside intrusion upon the separation, perhaps from the Ethiopians or the Westerns but...NEWS FLASH!!...Somalia today is more vulnerable than it has ever been and will ever be. Therefore, it's about time that some of you look back and see the current condition somalia is under. THEN maybe you will agree to any solution that will influence the current state of affairs!! Let's try and be realistic for just once in our our lives. JUST recently, in an article on the Record, the present president of Somalia was pleading to the Canadians to assist them with the anarchy ...I don't have the exact quote but his words were something along the line " We have great natural resources in Somalia which the Canadians will be able to EXPLOIT if they come to our country"...Do i blame him? NO, because i know that we are the most stubborn ppl one can govern. He's only human and there's only so much one can tolerate...nevertheless, I may not be a political analyst but if we have reached a stage where our "government" is surrendering to the westerners then what more have we to say? So i'll conclude by saying that as long as qabiil, hatred, and lack of Imaan(faith) exists among our people, we will never attain stability and unity in our country. However, going back to my point, if each ministate leader (from the north, east and south) is officially given the goal that he strives for(the presidency seat)...root of the main problem...then rivalry between the qabiils will reduce because they will now have their own states, then fulfilling basic human needs such as security can be established and then people(at least the vast majority) will no longer be motivated to kill and to shed the blood of their brothers and sisters...to be violent period!. Hence, reconciliation between states can occur which may eventually lead to unity (All with Allah's blessing of course). Now i don't have much more to say than to tell you guyz that, because of the love that i have for my people and the well being of my country and how much it hurts to see what innocent people have to endure everyday ...in each prayer i ask Allah(swt) to give us His mercy and to unite us...afterall, only He is able to bring abouts such a miracle!!

salam, I agree with some of you in that i believe purest somali is spoken in SOMALI GALBEED God, i hope i'm not being biased, but hey that' s my take on it! BTW, where is Nugaal?

Che...u know what even though it sounds like i'm being pessimistic, i for once have given up on the hope of unity and peace in somalia, and i believe many somalis share this thought. I know that we are the new generation with fresh minds and we should be thinking forward but the truth is everyone is tired...this's all nothing but a vicious cycle that will never end...i mean if so much revulsion existed among our parents' generation, you think it won't be passed down to later generations? We have seen nothing but ten yrs of unproductivity, massacres and horrible atrocities that have had a tremendous impact on all of our lives in one form or another. WE have failed as nation and it's time that we realized that we will never be able to mobilize as a society. Sometimes i ask myself...are we genetically predisposed to all this hostility, aggression and brutality towards one another? the answer?...i have to do a massive research one day insha'Allh..lol So maybe it's not such a bad idea to split into smaller independent states like you said...that is if and only if other ill-minded somalis will let you have your own state peacefully and not claim it's theirs when they know it's not theirs...that just aggravates me!

lol@nasra...what a night huh? see that's why i don't attend mixed weddings, cuz i'll spend the night paying attention to little details and feeling sorry for the poor newly weds...what can i say, i'm a little perfectionist when it comes to weddings. U guyz wanna hear even funnier trends...somalis are going Hindi stylin nowadays eh, like that beats me...with the elangas (mind u, not the typical bride elangas) and not to mention the saris (which are not even meant for brides period), i understand if u have hindi blood in ya, but if not it's better to stick with the international white dress and even better...our traditional bride & groom clothes like many of u said.

salam God...why all this revulsion against Ethiopians?, subxanallah, besides there's so many diverse groubs within the "Ethiopian" name like ppl from Harar(cute girls) and ppl from Oromo and Eritria...all of whom are decent muslims who wouldn't want to harm others...but as far as the Habash ppl, i can understand your frustrations although even with them, i think it's the government not the public that does the damage...so guyz, pls let's promote peace! As far as dating, i woudn't mind Nothern guyz just cuz i think their accent is cute...but when it comes to marriage, although fate has its mysterious ways, I wouldn't go for none of the above and stick with GALBEED guyz...and yea, i know i'm a little picky but hey, who said this is a utopical world?
-
Tigre...lol, ur funny walaahi. And yea, i was just trying to make the girl feel better, hellooo...and u had to spoil that didn't u
-
Implants is the way to go sweetie!!...j/k, PPl let's not judge the poor girl, she's just another girl a bit unhappy about a certain part of her body just like some girls are unhappy about having rather havier glutes (which i personally think is genetically inherited) But anyhow, many girls have given you a good advice, u seem very well proportioned, so say alhamdulilah. As my mom always says...smaller chest and waste and curvy hips is a girls best figure!! (it always makes me feel better when i complain, lol) P.S does size realy matter to somalis?, i mean i always thought as long as they serve their pupose, ur good to go

Salaam, I actually think that dowry has become less of an issue to many somalis because people have gotten educated both religious and secular so money is not such a big issue, or am i just being naive? However, i've seen women that ask for the qur'an to lessen the burden on their husbands but what they're really doing is increasing it because now, the husband is obligated to teach her the qur'an...so if i were you guyz, and the girl was thinking about asking the qur'an, i'd refuse cuz that's just an immense pressure many guyz don't realize. As far as these expensive weddings that have almost become a norm for many somalis in the west...well that's just absurd, haven't they ever heard of the old saying "dabo adan lahayn laguma xaaro" ,seriously, and what's sad to know is that women are the driving force of this fitnah(not to generalize)....i mean i believe that there is no one who knows his (the husband-to-be) state better than her, so why put him through hell just to have others say heblaayo had the best wedding and i want a wedding like hers. No wonder the divorce rates have sky rocketed. As for me...i object to any part where a MAN has to pay to compensate for my needs.I believe in 50/50 and that's not to say that i have assimilated to the western society but i just come from a family where women were always independent and the thought of asking "men" for money was somewhat degrading. I also do know that there are smart, independent somali siters out there. So one piece of advice for you men since i have many brothers and i know a little about viewing things from your perspective....choose your partners carefully!!!
