Sis, thanks for the reminder. Indeed time is most precious and may Allah help us spend our time wisely. I personally have found this site helpful in that it allows us to experess ourselves positively and we also learn from our bro's and sis's. It's the only somali site that i'm a member of. The best thing to do is go for the threads that you think will be of benefit and avoid those that are waste of time, that's what I do

Observer, I completely agree with you bro. Originally posted by Shyhem: In my world money comes next to religion,it just sits there next to my believe in God. Wanacuudu bilaah...man I hope you were joking, money next to God?? Subxanalah  I think money is just a tool, a means to an end or the end itself for some (my prayers are with those ppl walaahi)...It does make life more comfortable however, one should always be content with life with/without money. It has no importance what-so-ever, even if you're the richest person on earth, when your time comes your money won't leave with you but your camal will. As muslim's Allah (swt) told us in the Qur'an : "Inallaha yarzuqu man yasha'u bigheyri xisaab" Allah guarantees us that he will provide for us without any limitation. As believers, we should have faith in our creator and we should always keep in mind the fact that whatever we achieve or we do not achieve in this world is merely a test of our faith in Allah. Therefore we should NEVER put an emphasis on materialism or aim to achieve worldy things. Humans are very vulnerable and materialism is the one thing that can lower our imaan and come between us and God. Just look at those who are blessed with fortune yet who become mutakabirs and forget their purpose in this world...Some somalis I heard used to say "al faqiru yucalimu du'ah"...allahu manajinaa. My point is, life was never granted to us, let's appreciate what we have ie our lives, our deen and imaan, our health, the ability to do good and make a difference in this world and let's only aim for that which will help us succeed in the hereafter!

Baashi, afkaaga caano lagu qabay walaal, you summed it up very well. I wish if more nomads thought like you. Originally posted by Baashi: it is about the very idea that presupposes ‘educated lady’ and then associates with a disdainfully self-importance profile that is inaccessible to most of the nomads. This is my point exactly. The more these men have this perspective on this issue, the more they push the ladies away.

hibo, thanks xabibti. I will try the qumbe insha'Allah
-
well actually smart ones don't run away...and the rest hesitate mainly because of fear of rejection...the problem is that most somali people esp guys have this rather ridiculous presupposition that educated girls are arrogant and snotty....hello, thats just plain B.S walahi  you want an example? there's many guys with this sort of theory in this very thread!! and besides...as they say, shimbir walba shibirteedey la duusha (or sumthing like that) so that should eliminate any kind of frustration between the two

Originally posted by Tamina: If you can't handle an educated, independant, religious sista like me, than you better step aside!!! You go girl, tell it like it is The truth is I'm quite sick and tired of hearing these irrational stereotypical comments about somali women in the west. The decision is very much yours to marry whom ever you want from Somalia or anywhere you wish...you guys also have our blessing...just do us a BIG favour, stop pointing fingers!!! We want the best for you guys as our brothers in Islam and as our somali brothers, So why is it so difficult for you guys to wish the same for us...subxanalah. And my brother Khayr...it's good to know that your worrying about us in the "west" but there is no need cuz last time I checked Allah (swt) did not limit our options to Somali men only...Thank God eh If some somali guys cannot appreciate successful women who have their lives in perspective and who have a vision of their future and who also to my knowledge love and respect and are willing to commit to their somali brothers....then they will simply find Muslim brothers who are willing to do that unconditionally insha'Allah P.S Good luck with your journey Khayr, may Allah help you find the "right" woman insha'Allah

Hibo, I have tried nonbaked cheesecake before but it just doesn't set nicely as the baked one...and i'm obsessed with decorating desserts so if I can't get that perfect cut I won't make it. but it's tasty. Just a little tip with the creme caramel...instead of plain milk you can use canned carnation milk...gives it really tasty creamy touch. Hey, I wanna try the reer xamar sweets...do you have the recipes of qumbe and that fried thing they make with forks or combs..don't really know

Fish, I owned three cute little goldfish and I even had names for them til my crazy little niece decided to overfeed them and sadly they died I also like Cats...I owned one back home, but I agree with Ilhaam, it's too much to maintain them and not to mention the microbes they shed everywhere in the house.

Maskiin, Allah Yarxamo. May Allah swt grant him Jannah and guide his family through this tragic time.

Originally posted by rayaana: try and invite her for a night over ur place  and girls will actually agree nowadays? boy that makes me old-fashioned then. But the cooking part sounds nice although it only comes in handy after marriage Personally, I think the best thing you can do is to be yourself and to be as honest as you can, don't ever try and be someone your not or adopt characteristics you don't truly possess just to impress her...cuz at the end of the day, it could be the very thing that draws her apart from you. For instance, if your woman is very traditional/modest/religious type of woman, you probably don't wanna show up at her door on valentines day with red roses and a box of chocolate and say "happy Valentines hun" because that's an insult, to some at least. So to sum it up...you really need to know the core of what makes the person who they are in order to decide your approach...cuz really, everything revolves around that in a relationship...well that's what I think. About moving the r/ship to the next level, I think it depends on your personal values and standars...If your only at the beginning stage and you wanna move to the next level emotionally, it's not something you stop and ask, it will happen naturally if the feeling of interest is mutual. If you wanna move to next level in terms of intimacy (like many nowadays)...Then I suggest you think about good Marriage proposal techniques..lol PS If I just rambled on with nonsense, my apology...it's probably cuz its really late

Shyhem...wuts with u and this "future wife" thing, hayaay...I'm afraid your gonna wake up one of these nights screaming "MY FUTURE WIFE" Hibo...how r ya girl, how's life in carabta treating you? Thanks for sharing those wonderful recipes honestly, sometimes I'm quite critical of how my brothers cook at home but after I saw some replies from our talented guys in SOL...I'm thinking, I shouldn't be that hard on them...at least they can make real meals...some can even bake cakes walahi, well just basic cakes though ok...I'm gonna share the recipe of one of my favourite desserts to make...CHEESECAKE...very quick n easy to make, even for beginners You will need: 1 1/2 cup graham crumbs 1/4 cup oil or softened butter 3 packs philadelphia cream cheese (or any kind) 3 eggs 1 cup sugar 1 tbs corn starch (optional) 1 can cherry or blueberry or strawberry pie filling (up to you...but cherry is popular) Crust: mix the crumbs and the oil, press onto the bottom of a 9-inch springform pan...or you can buy already made crust from the grocery store just to save some time. Filling: Combine the 3 cheeses and add the sugar, mix until soft on low speed. Then add the eggs, blend some more and then add the corn starch. Pour mixture onto the crust. Bake at 375 degrees for 45min-1hr. Take it out...it might have some cracks..thats normal, the topping will cover it. Let it cool then spread the filling over it. Put it in the refrigerator...best if you prepare it the nite before! If your a chocolate fanatic...instead of using a pie filling for topping you can melt some semisweet chocolate and drizzle on top of your cheesecake and top it off with some grated white chocolate...looks good too! PS...BARWAQO, make sure u use some big oven gloves when making xalwad dear...cuz xalwad making I've noticed has left very bad scars on many girls which is one reason I've never tried...and it's also very tedious, good luck though

I'm not into weddings which is why I rarely attend Somali weddings and as odd as it sounds I don't usually think about how my wedding will be like...just cuz it's not part of my plans for the near future. But in general if I had to make some changes...I would separate the traditional dances from the wedding day...maybe leave all the Dhaanto/braanbur/hilib iyo caano geel for the Nikaax and keep the weddding day strictly formal I would also change the timing, make it during the day...I'm just not into weddings that end 5am in the morning...it's my wedding night for goodness sake, I wanna be able to enjoy the "night" And last but not least...I would definitely make sure that the wedding represents me and my husband of course (although men sadly tend to care less)...I would make sure that things such as the decor, food and etc have my personal touch...like I love greenery and water, so the site will probably comprise both, maybe outdoor wedding?...and the floral arrangement is very important...I just luv lilies, orchids and of course roses...right now, I'm thinking red would make a perfect theme colour since it symbolizes love. God...the ideas seem endless, I never had a clue  But thanks Nasir...now at least I won't go errr, uhm when the time comes

My plan for this saturday is to visit some relatives in Toronto...since they say it's safe now If I could find the cure to one chronic disease, is would be...

That was beautiful khayr and very poignant as well...I mean to touch and change a person's life so immensely yet so inadvertently through your good deeds is just the ultimate goal many hope to achieve...masha'Allah, you must feel wonderlful. Btw, do you still keep in touch?

Never criticize Israel if you want your job.
Haneefah replied to Libaax-Sankataabte's topic in Politics
wow, I always heard that the jews systematically owned the states but I really never knew they had so much power in the American media which nowadays has the greatest influence on the public...no wonder so much stereotype, hostility and hideous depiction of Islam exists in the western world. But the more shocking fact is how the non jews in America are simply falling into their trap and not even aware of the fact that they are indirectly being conditioned to think and act in a certain way...subxanalah -
Ilahaam...I can so relate to you...it's the damn cars, I can't drive without listening to music...it's hindi music though I guess it's all the same....May Allah help us all!!

What you ppl need to understand is that this is a country that exists apart from Somalia and it has its own history and its own identity...and the name of the land is OGADENIA...whether you (some/many somalis) approve/disapprove, it simply does not need your validation. It is true that different clans live in this country and they have just as much right as the ogadens and NO ONE will ever deprive them of that. Anyone with doubts about the authenticity of the name or the country...please do research...go to any real public library and you will find the information and hopefully that will put an end to your, should I say "quudho wayto" Inasha'Allah, Ogadenia will be liberated with/without the help of other Somalis and Allah (swt) will hopefully bring justice and free those innocent civilians from suppression and will put an end to their despair. Sorry Bachelor, I know this wasn't the topic but some somalis just know how to turn a healthy discussion into dispute esp when it comes to Ethiopia/Ogadenia issues because of their illmindednes and their qabyalist mentalities...and quite frankly, as long as this exists somalis will never be able to unite and form a government and hence why they are vulnerable to threats from other countries especially Ethiopa which I think poses the greatest threat at this instant.

Walaahi its terribly saddening that the so called middle generation who were supposed to be united and have a vison for the greater Somalia are still thinking and acting in terms of qabiil....subhanallah....then what should we expect from the elders who took part in the corruption itself. As far as comparing the two...well there IS no comparison, everyone is fully aware of the kind of evil spirited, devious and murderer C/Yuusuf is and that he was the cause of all FITNAH in Somalia!!!

It feels sooo damn good to be finally done...Thank God cuz I don't think I could've survived any more sleep deprivation and of course all that Tim's coffee I heard some schools are still not done...Good luck guys!
