I'm not surprised at all that this type of hate-inspired rhetoric is coming from Denmark. The notion of diversity, tolerance and multiculturalism is incredibly foreign to these ppl with whom I've had the unfortunate luck of living with for years. I can only imagine how prejudice and discrimination against minorities has heightened to paramount level after 9/11. I'm content with how the Islamic leaders have decided to deal with this. I feel you sis! It's anything BUT flattering, and quite degrading if you ask me (assuming of course you're referring to males here)...to me, even those who look beyond the 1st gaze would make me extremely uncomfortable let alone hadal lagugu tuuro. While it's quite unlikely for a modest muslimah who's covered from head to toe to get complementing remarks on appearance from total strangers (the beauty of hijab, alhamdulilah), I wouldn't spare them a 2nd thought/look if it did ever take place. However, what I personally happen to find quite bothersome is compliments coming from those whom you actually know (ie Muslim male acquaintances), and although they may mean it well and it may just be their way of showing utmost respect and admiration (while some have completely different intentions) , it's still lacking in Islamic etiquette and I make sure I let them know. Nevertheless, I consider it an awakening call for it shows that I might've slipped a bit and revealed a bit more than I should have. From females, I'm quite indifferent, of course I would still show appreciation and reciprocate (sincerely)

Sponsoring a child (the poor, orphan etc.) is a deed that's considered extremely righteous in Islam and very much encouraged ; there's an authentic hadeeth of the prophet (saw) where he said the one who takes kafila for a child will be beside him in Jannah (not exact wording). With the depressing plight of many muslims around the world today and the ever-increasing number of orphaned, displaced, impoverished children, we should give this more consideration Insha'Allah and perhaps sponsor at least one child (esp since many Muslim relief/humanitarian org's are making it feasible for you to do it without you having to bring the child here). Motherhood is the easiest thing in the world. Any id!ot, fool, loser can bear a child. Sis, bearing a child is one of the greatest gifts Allah bestows upon us, and although some of us usually take this for granted, not everyone gets so fortunate in receiving this precious gift. I Know this lady who's been married for more than 15 yrs and has been trying to get pregnant for the longest time but still hasn't, though she's quite patient and Allah has given her a husband with great Imaan, I can only imagine her continuous yearning and distressing. ^salam, not was it only an exellent story of knowledge but one that also illustrated mankind's dire need for guidance and great virtues such as patience, humility, respect...even Prophet Muhammad (saw) regretted prophet Musa's (as) hastiness during his encounter with Khidr for had he remained patient, he would have imparted more wisdom. Ibn kathir's tafsir of the Qur'an (with excellent commentaries explaining the context in which ayahs were revealed) is a great source of reference if you would like to read the complete story: The story of Musa and Al-Khidr. Also, if you read further down the Surah, you will come across ayah's supporting the claim of him being a prophet and a reference to why he was called al-Khidr. While you're at it, let me suggest to you to also read the incredible story of prophet Musa (as) who was as you may know one of the five greatest prophets and extremely unique in that he was the only Prophet with whom Allah (swt) had bestowed the ability of speaking to Him directly...the story is related in many surahs in the Qur'an but surah Ta-Ha describes it in great detail. Enjoy.
