  1. A brilliant idea. But I have to admit, nowadays families rarely find the time to even have a meal together (with everyone's hectic schedule), let alone the time to play a game or spend quality time together (esp. when all have left home and married ). I'll definitely keep this interesting game in mind for my future family though, Insha'Allah  . I'm sure it would make a tremendous difference in the family dynamic and contribute to personal development.
  2. It's an occupation, obviously no good news can be expected from it. May Allah subxanahu watacala have mercy on our people.
  3. Looks like travelling season has begun... Val, I'm glad to see you had a lot of fun sis. It's about time Australia got some review at least

Where's Malindi again? LoL. I actually could've had the chance of doing a health related internship with the IOM in Mombasa this summer but decided not to pursue it because I've never been to Kenya and its surroundings, don't know anybody there either, and quite truthfully, I've always been somewhat apprehensive about going there much less working there. I did however always wish to visit Tanzania. Maybe one day waan isku wada mari doonaa, Insha'Allah. Enjoy your vacation walal (I'm sure you already have ), and please get us more pictures if possible, esp of the resorts and maybe the Arab influenced architecture that I've heard of? Salaam

  6. Ilaahay ha unaxriisto marxuumka reerkiisana sabr iyo imaan ha siiyo. It's truly sad. I actually used to know his family here in Canada, must've been a heartbreaking ordeal, Allah ha u gargaaro.
  7. Adoo raali iga ah walal, wax toosi igama aheyn, ee bas khalas isbadalkan yar umbaan ka hadley. In any case, your dacwa, whatever form, is always appreciated and is of great benefit to many of us alxamdulilah. Lakiin, sidaad sheegtay, softwaano ayaa lagugu bartay oo darteed ayaan anigu u soo booqdaa dhankan, badanaa sidaan break uga qaato dhacdooyinka iyo arimaha maanta taagan. Siyaasadna inaba iskuma fiicnin, lakiin koleyba dad badan ooy ugu baxdo ayaa jira. Xiin, waad salamantahay walal. Adiga iyo golihii siyaasada yaa badiyey? Xal la gaadhay ma jiraa so far?
  8. Assalamu Calaykum shaikh Nur, You seem to be politically inclined these days walal, maxaa jira? Looks like my all time favourite eNuri pieces are being sprinkled with politics  Everywhere you turn these days, breaking news and the ill works of some wicked politicians and corrupted people baa ku hor yaala...aduunyadoo dhan baaba iska qasan.
  9. This is just Incredible. May Allah subxanahu watacala reward these young Muslim professionals who've initiated such an amazing project. I also hope that more Muslims follow their path and venture into the nonprofit health care field. Esp, in the states where there is a tremendous health disparity present and more states/counties with extremely high poverty levels exist. Very inspiring, really
  10. Lots of amazing postdoctoral fellowships and funding opportunities. Though I'm not there yet, it gave great ideas for future funding Insha'Allah. I shall now focus on my masters first, for which some of the mentioned organizations actually provide funding, nice! Thanks sis
  11. And if I may add to that, even when it is permitted, it is encouraged to be sought as a last resort. The Qur'an directs the husband to seek other means such as communication (warning, advice) and forsaking intimacy with his misbehaving wife first.
  12. Waaban kuu sii wadeyee sideen ugu dhacay? LOL. To come to think of it, the little girl does resemble a lady I know of reer Kitchener.
  13. A disheartening aspect of the virtual world, esp in Somali circles. Hence why I don't blame Somalis for being incredibly paranoid of sharing pics online; I too would never post anything, even on rather safe sites, so long as Somalis have an access to it. Makes you wonder what compels these Farax's to be so immoral and unethical.
  14. ^ @ Kitchener. Xilwa walee. Xageey tolow ka degenyihiin magaalada aan soo ziyaartee? We could be of some assistance in getting them back together, ya know.
  15. Originally posted by nuune: Lately, Kenya just became a tool used by Ethiopia and America. Kenya is just proving to be the poor and corrupted African country that it is, with no respect for international laws nor human rights. Not that shocking of a news in that part of the world really. Moreover, Ethiopia has actually been the major tool used to create havoc and instability in the horn. I'd say it's playing its role quite well, and in return, its achieving its goals (not for too long, bi'idnillah). I can't imagine what a horrendous ordeal it must've been for the detainees, considering Ethiopia's long history of brutal and inhumane torture techniques in prisons in addition to starvation. Having a family member among the imprisoned myself, it's been a terribly frightening couple of months, not knowing what might be happening to your loved one at any given moment or whether they're even alive or dead. At least the foreign nationals have people who can speak on their behalf and advocate for their safe release whether successful or not, but what about the hundreds of poor, innocent Somalis (men and women) and Oromos or members of other ethnic minorities in Ethiopia who are continuously being captured by this brutal regime and tortured to death each day? Those whose families don't even dare to question about their status or else, they too will join? Awfully disturbing walahi... Whether they happen to be held in secret prisons in Ethiopia, Morocco, Guantanamo or any other location in the world run by the US, I pray that Allah subxanahu watacala protects our Muslim brethren from the oppression of the kufar and facilitate their release, safe and sound.

  17. Haneefah

    Kadra

Knuckleheads dheh! As for her, I'm sure she's enjoying her popularity. After all, SOL alone has produced 6 pages of speaking about this woman and her intentions (and her nose).
  18. ^ Thank you dear, you summed it up quite well. The hijab is a symbol of modesty and submission to ones creator, not a piece of covering that can be suited to fit modern norms or reflect one's own whims and desires. It simply cannot coexist with the so called 'glits & glamour' these women are apparently seeking. And quite frankly, the khaleejis are going ridiculously over-board with this whole accessorizing the cabaaya/hijab business. It's about time people learned about the hijab's full implication and gave it its due respect and honour (of course, assuming they are wearing it for the right purposes).
  19. Paragon - waa sidee walal, ciyaartu dib beyba ka wasakhowdayee. Malaha taan uheystay maba aha. I did suspect its odd name ('Balaqleey') anyways. [Not Disco Dancer yaah Haneefah ] And you thought I of all people needed that clarification miyaa? Orodoo lo'diina raac baan ku idhi, reer af-dheer yahow Besides, ka kala aayar bahasha wiilka geel meel uu joogana maadan aragee Kimiya - I agree, Dhaanto is quite a classy and elegant dance. It's the only one I can perform with confidence too
  20. Congratulations on the new restaurant CT. The food looks delicious, in fact, I've been taken to your other location couple of times and loved the food (the salmon dish esp). You're at the forefront when it comes to presentation and creativity, both of which other Somali restaurants could use much more of. I actually make a similar dish to your chicken fantastik at home, only I substitute the cream for carnation or coconut milk, add red bell peppers for more colour and I serve it with couscous instead of rice. It really goes well with it. So yea, perhaps you should try and incorporate a bit of North African cuisine and viola, you got the ultimate fusion Insha'Allah, I'll try to pay your new place a visit on my next trip to MN.
  21. Oh how sad. Waa ka building-mada ku hoos yaal soo maha? I think I've seen it, the location is quite convenient for the residents and there's a lot of meaning attached to it for so many of them. Instead of being so 'understanding' abt the upcoming project, they should voice their opinion against it and fundraise to buy it.
  22. ^Saylici originates from the Galbeed  How is it done exactly? Never heard of this Jaandheer before, but you gotta love the swirling action combined with the white attire. Could it be the remnant of Sufi influences on the East perhaps? 'Hobow, hoobaalle, how-baallow, Hadday bil-billaabaneysaaye, anaa baabkeeda lay baraye, Hadday 'balaqley' u ektahaye! This is called gaaleeys or balaqleys? You serious? I have recognized the chorus but never knew what the actual dance was called. How interesting. I was first exposed to this beautiful dance at my brother's wedding where the reer wuqooyi half of the family organized this dance...it sure involved lots of jumping (which I enjoyed), and the tune certainly complements the movements very well. Now I finally know the name of that dance. Btw, do the women use umbrellas for this dance also or is it for another one?
  23. Inaa Lilaah Wa Inaa Ileyhi Raajicuun. Ilaahey ha u naxriisto intii dhimatay. Walee wadankan wey u dhamaatey. Allow u gargaar Somali!
  24. I heard this on the news recently, and I found it quite odd for her to have been kicked off the bus, very un-Canadian eh? Are Calgarians this crude? I understand that some people might be allergic to perfumes or simply hate all fragrances, but this was a bit extreme and embarrassing. I have to admit though, I'm not too fond of Givenchy fragrances myself; esp Very Irresistible, it's quite strong and tasteless...reminds me of Chanel and Elizabeth Taylor type of scents.
