  1. Useful pointers some Faarax's are in dire need of.

  3. May Allah bless her and the many like her who have dedicated their lives to serving our people.
  4. It's a real slap on the face for new professional immigrants, who give up everything they had in their countries and spend every penny on making the move in hopes of leading more prosperous lives here; only to find themselves trapped and manipulated by the system. Medical professionals are hit the hardest I believe. I have a friend from Egypt, an MD with 12 yrs of medical/public health experience as well as postgraduate degrees who's been struggling to find a career in the health care field for years now. She's now given up and resorted to doing yet another postgrad degree in public health to give her that sought after 'Canadian experience'. Extremely frustrated and literally wishes she had never left home. Fortunately, her husband who is also an MD miraculously found a residency position with a rural health region. Thousands more of IMGs find themselves in the same predicament. It's huge issue that must be takled by the government that keeps attracting while misinforming these poor foreigners.

Beautiful. Thanks for sharing them with us.
  6. Interesting project with an interesting name. I hope you applied Khalid, for the second post esp -- a great opportunity to make a difference.
  7. In a world moving at a faster pace than we can catch up, not a half bad idea .
  8. Masha'Allah, very beneficial advice. I really admire this shaikh, a great asset to the Somali Islamic scholarship, may Allah bless him. P.S. Maakhiri, that's a nice site. Are you the founder? If so, I had a suggestion on the tazkiya series Insha'Allah. Thanks.
  9. Assalamu Calaykum, Very interesting associations you're making there, Shaikh Nur. Regarding Al Gore, did he make that statement during his documentary (which by the way I tought was quite an informative and educational piece)? What did he really mean by it? While I may be quite unlearned/naive in the politics of it all as I am focusing mostly on the environmental perspective, I believe the kyoto protocol is a brilliant global agreement that not only serves the interests of key players, but has the potential of having an immense impact globally. We are already experiencing the devastating impact of greenhouse gasses on our climates. Thus, I sort of fail to undestand the connection you are making between greed and these global environmental initiatives/commitments; please enlighten me on this issue, Insha'Allah. Let me steer away a bit from the moral of your story and continue on with the environmental issues. With respect to Muslims, I've always been quite stunned at how Islam promotes Environmental awareness yet the majority of Muslims are indifferent to it to varying extents. If you look at Muslim populated lands today, majority of illnesses and public health threats are essentially stemming from environmental degredation and pollution, primarily through water/air/food contamination. Do you think the face of health promotion and disease prevention in those countries could be reshaped if tackled through Islamic awareness? Would certain Muslim populations (the more vulnerable, disenfranchised and illiterate) be more receptive of such strategies and show more compliance if campaigning is done by say Islamic scholars rather than the traditional health care professionals? I wonder. Also, it's interesting when you say spiritual pollution correlates with STI's. Very true. Aside from spiritual practice curbing illicit health-risk behaviours, it appears that spiritual pollution would also have a great impact on chronic illnesses and health in general. Spirituality and health is a hot area of research nowadays. A collegue of mine who has a background in Christian theology and who's now doing his PhD in Epidemiology sparked my interest in the area, and so I've done a brief literature review; to my suprise I have yet to come across any research focusing on the role of Islam on the health of its adherents, but abundant work on christianity. I hope to see ambitious Muslim researches looking at the impact of increased Iman on the quality of life of those afflicted with lethal illnesses for instance, in the near future Insha'Allah. Either way, it's quite plausible to see spirituality as a new or rather a revived dimension of health care in mainstream traditions. As for marriage, inoo soo ducee Insha'Allah, esp those of us to whom it's not a top priority yet, righteous partners for the single folks out there Insha'Allah! P.S: Sorry for getting off on a tangent.
  10. Pretty sad, really, but not shocking. Originally posted by Emperor: ^War nimankaan Kenyanka ah I think waxba nagama caqli badnee, the International community helped and preserved them where as we Somalis were left alone butchering each other. Hahah. Amusing. If memory serves me correct the international community did try to intervene but the sheer savagery and lack of caql displayed by your countrymen (which exists to this day) is what drove them away and eventually led to their indifference about Somali affairs altogether. Besides, hadaanan lagaa caqli badnayn why would you require the assistance of a foreign man (his caql) to stop you from butchering your own brother, mother or sister? Caqli la'aan waa waxa Somali meeshaa dhigtey, maxaa been la isu quudinayaa?

^I second that, barakallah feek dear. I'm just waiting to see the custom made ones mom will bring me from the khaleej Insha'Allah, then those Moroccan ones on that site will be mine  . So cheap too! Ps. Thanks Cambaro, I will try to check the store if I make it to London this Summer bi'idnillah.
  12. It's a wonderful idea actually, whether it'll materialize or not. There needs to be an appropriate forum where we can exchange health care information and update each other and others on relevant health/medical research outcomes and developments. I'd promise to deliver my part!
  13. May Allah reward you both for the dua's. I would like to share the supplication of prophet Yunus calyhi salam during his imprisonment inside the fish as a punishment from Allah: Laa Ilaaha Ilaa Anta Subxaanaka Inee kuntu Mina Dhaalimeen (There is no God but You, Glorified be You! Truly, I have been of the wrongdoers.) -- Anbiya,87 The Prophet SAW said that No Muslim ever prays to his Lord with these words for anything, but He will answer his prayer. It was also recorded that he sallalahu calayhi wassalam said, "Whoever offers supplication in the words of the supplication of Yunus, will be answered." I personally admire this supplication in that it really gives me a spiritual uplift when I recite it during times of distress or times when I feel my imaan has lowered, as a means of repentance. I feel much better afterwards. A great form of dikr to memorize and to make a habit of reciting.
  14. ^That's precisely what I was thinking: aside from social concerns, the consumption of this drug especially in exlusive qaad-houses would pose a public health risk whereby airborne illnesses could easily proliferate among the users/abusers. I wouldn't be surprised to see enteric illnesses as a result either as I doubt the hygienic handling of these leaves from the farm to shipping to the distributers in the west. Thus, if anything, its use should be highly regulated and marfishes regularly inspected or it should be banned altogther from a health care prospective. PS: Wlc to SOL Marc. Most of us SOLers are quite nice and not so judgmental. And believe it or not, we're just as concerned as you are about our current state of affairs and we all in some way or another try/wish to make a difference.
  15. Subxanallah, I was just speaking of nifaq in politics. I remembered how in Light of Guidance, Shaikh Yasir spoke of the dangers of hypocrisy by highlighting how Allah subxanahuu watacala mentions the mu'minoon in 4 ayah's in the beginning of Al'Baqarah, the kaafiroon in two, and a whopping 13 ayas warning us about the evil and dangers of the munaafiquun and illustrating their signs so clearly (and in other suras as well such as taubah and almunafiquun). Indeed Allah caza wajal will not permit us to enter jannah unless He differentiates the mukhliseen from the munaafiqs. Thanks bro, for the reminder.
  16. ^Nifaaq, my dear sister, describes the sad story of the lives of many people among us today. Despite their manipulative ways and great attempt to hide their inner selves, Allah subxanahu watacala exposes them and humiliates them through their own speech. They're like metastasizing tumors within the body of a society if you will; the only remedy is to eradicate them altogether from this body, or else they will lead to its ruin. If you were to tell these very people that an Islamic state has been established in Somalia today, they'd be the first to rush to the front line and claim, "We're with you wholeheartedly, akhuunaa fil Islam."
  17. Nephy, nothing is better than in-laws ku koolkooliya (I'm the best dumaashi, I shall know ). So, u tag reerka, after all eid is for family.
  18. ^Can you share some of that bakalava, I haven't made that or eaten it in ages. So, what are you planning to get quruxleey? Has she asked for anything yet? I wish I could spend this eid with hooyo macaan and the rest in Makka. But I just have to settle for next door Edmonton to visit some family members and get spoiled. Insha'Allah, it should be fun. Have a joyous holiday everyone!
