^ I presume the idea is wajigu kolkuu qanciyo inuu inta kale iska sii eego to prevent future disappointment - ridiculous and xaraam. I hear it's become quite the norm in some of the arab countries (esp khaleej) to not only approve of this but to actually prep the girl before the suitor's arrival (wearing fancy dress, make-up and etc.), and this happens in religious families as well. What's wrong with people? I have no clue where such interpretation of the ahaadeeth regarding this issue stem from. To my knowledge, the different schools of thought hold that 'may look' is only confined to that which is 'apparent'; I don't see the need for a fatwa on the issue, really.

^Probably in Tanzania dissociating himself from the current somalinimo. I was watching it few nights ago with mom; quite a nostalgic documentary.

This is wrong; world's largest exporters of grain are stockpiling to prevent domestic increase in prices while billions of people could possibly starve to death as they were already food insecure. I don't think the average N. American consumer is worried much about the effects of a global food crisis just yet though; the skyrocketing gas price is the primary concern now. Anyone shopping for a hybrid yet? God help this world.

Aah, I miss this beautiful section. I've turned out to be a big slacker these days Br Nur...dunya is getting the best of me . I really want to ponder on this one but I am going through exams right now. Insha'Allah, I shall return - at least read and reflect if I am unable to contribute. Keep me in your prayers my dear brother. Salaam

Originally posted by Nur: " Agah! Ma Musxaf baa?" That was hilarious, br Nur. I'm sure that's more of a constructed myth though, no? I really think reer miyi are a lot more clever than they project. Fatboy, with all due respect why are you dwelling on this topic if you're neither married nor in the process? Besides, there are books written by ancient scholars explaining the 'sunnah' approach which you could read in your own privacy instead of questioning about it in a public forum.

^Congrats hon. I was never a big fan of trolling but you can surely visit us during your evenings, no? This place would be dull without you InshaAllah, all the best with work, and I am delighted you found Muslim colleagues. It's always a bliss.

No wonder we haven't seen you here for so long, show mid buufis qabtaa buufiskeeda kugu daaratey Seriously, I never understood the real meaning of this term as I've heard it used in different contexts. I was under the impression that it more or less referred to some type of stress-induced condition (nervous breakdown?). As for those you've mentioned, most people in that part of the world are living under conditions we would find unacceptable. They're only trying to seek better opportunities for themsleves and their families despite the desperate image they may project to some in the west. Could you really blame them without having lived in their shoes or experienced the difficult circumstances under which they live?

^an extra month in Madina or Mecca sounds enticing. I've seen honeymooners who've opted for that option. A blessed way to begin a family!

Bilan, she and the composer used their artistic abilities to speak against an unjust regime that was oppressing its own people. Despite what the direct repercussions may have been, she displayed utter bravery and refused to be complacent (like many great artists before her). That's waxey faa'idey.

Very poignant indeed. Reminded me of . Couldn't find the Sa'ad Al-Ghamidi version. Mid kalaan ka danqanayey, tana wey iigu darsantay. "lan nubaalii bil quyud, bal sanamdhi lil khulood... Naxnu jundullahi dawman, darbunaa darbul ubaa..."

So they finally aired it. I was expecting it to be released in English. Our courageous women! Inspirational walahi! Victory is near, Inshaallah. Thanks Ladif.

Who cares about what they think? I'm not trying to sound conceited, but really?

I find something peculiarly charming about some white men in academia; those in their 30s/early 40s with few grey hair here and there. If only they were Muslim...

Nice song. Ameen to their supplications.

Shame on the English press. All this for instigating further Islamophobia? *waves at Ibti wondering how exams are treating her*
