  1. ^I was reflecting on the the same verse couple of days back myself; it's a beatiful reminder of Allah's mercy for the believers, esp at times of difficulty. It used to be that I read the Qur'an every night before sleep to keep my connection with Allah, the Exalted. A routine I took pride in as it helped me stay grounded and focused on my purpose in life. A beautiful dose of heart-softener! As of late, that routine has been disturbed for various reasons I am well aware of, and I take least pleaure in. I saw myself slowly drift away, beguiled by worldy charms, and yearning to excel in endeavours that I know very well will be of no benefit to me except with the pleaure of Allah subxanahu watacala. I've become occupied from the nurture and care of my heart; who am I becoming? Yesterday, as I was cooking and listening to Shaikh Shuraim read a beautiful Surah, came this aayah where Allah asks: "Has not the time yet come for the believers that their hearts should be humble for the remembrance of Allah" It struck me deep. He continued, then Allah summed it up for me, I heard what I direly needed to be reminded of in that moment: "Know that the life of this world is only play and amusement, pomp and mutual boasting among you, and rivalry in respect of wealth and children. (It is) like a rain (Ghayth), thereof the growth is pleasing to the tiller; afterwards it dries up and you see it turning yellow; then it becomes straw. But in the Hereafter (there is) a severe torment, and (there is) forgiveness from Allah and (His) pleasure. And the life of this world is only a deceiving enjoyment." Indeed, like a vegetation that dries up after its appointed time is up. Amazing are the parables Allah puts forth for us, but little do we reflect.

You need to post it please, I wasn't following. Why is it somalis always act all strange in front of the camera horta?
  4. ^LoL. Dooreyduna maxey ahayd toloow. A&T, eeg walalo, whatever was said was said, and it was indeed unbecoming of someone like you (if it's of any consolation). Two of my girlfriends had their pretty ones filled, and I seriously think they shouldn't have.
  6. Sheeko qaanfuur baad heysaa, adeer. I still stick to it.
  7. ^Horta who are the infamous reer mudug waa su'aalee? Sideey u egyihiin? Ma dad dadka indhaha faraha ka galiyaa indho-adeeg dartii?
  8. ^LoL. Wakhti qaanfuur baan maqli jirey. I wonder if anyone here has ever rejected a potential suitor primarily because of their physical attributes? Is it transgressing the xuduud of decency and rationality, though one has the full right in this case?

    Relocating

^It may be free, but there's absolutely nothing enticing about this health care system which is inevitably heading to ruins due to reasons I don't even want to get into right now; pay a visit to your local ER and you'll know what I mean. Talk about need for serious policy changes. Anyways, about the topic...I personally subscribe to the old saying of 'meeshii lagu qubeystaa lagu qalajistaa' or something along that line. In essence, I dislike change. I did however have to make a move last yr for studies, and it was a pretty darn difficult experience. Insha'Allah, there's another one pending come next spring; where? Allahu aclam! Maybe back home in ON, the States, Africa -wherever my career path takes me. Meanwhile, if an opportunity presents itself to settle in Mecca, Madina, or Morroco (even temporarily), I'll be more than delighted to pursue that and explore other aspects of my life. For now, I'll just be the student with many tentative plans.

Allah ya'izak for highlighting that, that's precisely what came to mind after reading the post. Cadaan, my brother, when it comes to matters of the dunya, the believer should always compare himself to those who are less fortunate but when it comes to matters of the deen, he shall compare himself to those who are superior. You are a strong, smart and capable man whom Allah has blessed. Allah has chosen you specifically among your peers for His guidance; He has enlightened you with the truth, now the onus is on you to become grateful for this favour by perfecting your deeds and embarking on a journey of pleasing He Who has bestowed His mercy upon you. This is not a light matter, brother. It's time for you to seriously reflect - being content with meeting the bare minimum is not an attribute of the grateful one. The grateful believer is the one who seeks excellence in all of his endeavours, never becomes satisfied with his current state, and who's forever seeking ways to enhance his imaan. By Allah bro, when you discover the bigger picture and seek the path of Allah with sincerity, He will facilitate your path in this dunya with ease and provide for you in ways which you could have never anticipated. This is not wishful thinking, but rather the promise of Allah. Once you establish this connection, all else shall fall into place InshaAllah (including a good woman ). PS: I haven't heard too many praises about the Calgary Somali community, so if I may, I urge you to change your social circle and seek the companionship of better Muslims who will assist you in perfecting yourself.
  11. How appaling her audacity to say, 'we will open with the Qur'an' and in the same sentence manage to say, 'waan tumaneynaa'. Subxanallah. Truly, when the hearts become blind, the ears don't hear and the eyes don't see. Xasbunallah. Walee been maxey dad isku dhureen.

^Ma saas baa? Mise you thought my general comment in response to the topic was addressing you? Hehe.
  15. ^At last, you made it to London? Serenity, this negative is but an everyday reality for millions, dear. Marka, ha ila yaabin if I fail to grasp the occasion that calls for a celebration. Africa is in dire need of its people, and unfortunately, we are still not willing to look back.

I am really not daydreaming or anything of the sort - I am just planning a trip to Banff, lol. Cubic Zirconium sure does fool many, doesn't it. Simplicity all the way! 18. Their people are suffering, countries ridden with endemic diseases that will soon wipe 'em off the earth, and the continent is in complete havoc, yet all they want to do is dance and celebrate on Africa Day? Exactly what is there to be festive about? Caqli Afrikaan baan maqli jirey.

That's a terrible scenario. Off topic a bit, but I do wonder sometimes why the heck some men feel they can sway a woman with material things? The more extravagant the gift, the more they presume she will be swept off her feet. What an utter insult! So Nephy, how many carat are you flaunting?
  20. It's about $1.30/L here. It's getting scarier.
  21. Is this where odayaasha SOL showcase their xodxodasho talent (or lack thereof) . I find Somali love letters too fairy-talish and exaggerated.

    MBA

^Spill your thoughts out, I'm sure he won't mind. Not to sound like a jerk..but they teach you that in your first year Intro to Business classes. Oh yea? I wouldn't know. I am not a business student now nor was I as an undergrad. The policy class I was referring to was mainly comprised of health care researchers and clinicians who have not had prior introduction to the material; besides, the MBA degree caters to people from very diverse disciplines, therefore, it is not assumed that one has a solid business background (or so I think). P.S. I just checked that link...Sophist intey dhaheen bey iska daayeen!
