One hump or two? Camel milk ice cream is here By Chris Mercer 24/08/2006- A leading dairy firm in the Middle East is attempting to trade on the health benefits of camel's milk by using it to make a lower fat, reduced sugar ice cream. Al Ain Dairy said it had launched the first camel milk ice cream in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), positioning the product as a healthy alternative to other ice cream products. Camel's milk has long been considered healthy in the Arab world, but discussion on its commercial potential has increased in recent years. Al Ain, which has set up a camel farm and processing facility, said its new ice cream would be available in supermarkets and petrol stations in chocolate, caramel and strawberry flavours. The group has targetted weight watchers by highlighting that camel milk ice cream contains only 2.5 per cent fat, compared to between six and nine per cent for standard ice creams. It added that camel milk ice cream was safe for consumers with lactose intolerance, and contained three times more vitamin C than cow's milk. One would still get much more vitamin C from fruit and vegetables, but it is health benefits like this that have seen camel's milk capture more attention in dairy circles. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) said recently that camel's milk had strong potential with millions of consumers across Africa, Europe and the Americas. The FAO was instrumental in developing the first camel milk cheese, dubbed 'camelbert', in 1992. Since then, camel milk chocolate has appeared, while an Israeli scientist, professor Reuven Yagil, reportedly developed a camel milk ice cream in 1999. Low fat dairy, such as semi-skimmed and skimmed milk, has taken market share off full fat products in several western markets. This trend has been particularly visible for ice cream in Europe over the last few months, with three large firms, including Unilever and ingredients group Danisco, announcing new low fat products. Camel's milk, as well as being low in fat, also contains vitamin B, iron and unsaturated fatty acids. Its nutritional value has led to a range of health claims. One small study, released by the Camel Applied Research and Development Network, found camel's milk could help treat Type 1 diabetes. Some doctors and researchers have also said camel's milk may help treat a range of other illnesses, including ulcers, tuberculosis and even breast cancer. More studies will be needed, however, to bring some of these claims out of regional folklore.

The Norfolk Hotel in Nairobi serves camel's milk ice cream over a macadamia nut tart baked with acacia-infused honey. Dried fruit tops the ice cream and three dabs of passion fruit coulis — the color of egg yolks — sparkle on the side. NPR Correspondents' Choice Nairobi: Camel's Milk Ice Cream at the Norfolk Hotel by Gwen Thompkins The Norfolk Hotel in Nairobi serves camel's milk ice cream over a macadamia nut tart baked with acacia-infused honey. Dried fruit tops the ice cream and three dabs of passion fruit coulis — the color of egg yolks — sparkle on the side. NPR.org, April 16, 2007 · Real Kenyans, for the most part, dine at home. Truth be told, that is where the best food is. So if an invitation is offered — pounce! They can be as rare as a leopard sighting. After the hustle and the clawing of the day, after the pushing and the dust and the heat, Kenyans prefer a little peace at home, which means — no offense — a home without you. Most of the finest restaurants in Nairobi are already in the guidebooks. They serve plenty of meat dishes, because this is the kind of place where beef is what's for dinner. Or goat. Or, at Carnivore (off Langata Road, Nairobi, 254-20-605-933), one the city's most famous eateries, the menu looks like the opening credits of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. There is roasted crocodile, camel, buffalo, gazelle and ostrich. There is also a variety of Indian fare in Nairobi. And Kenya's sizable Indian population has commanded ample space on nearly every menu for vegetarian dining. Here, even Wimpy's (in Sarit Center Food Court off Parklands Road, Westlands, Nairobi) has a veggie-burger special. But the best (and freshest) foods in Nairobi often are found along the side of the road, where farmers sell their own maize, pineapples and mangoes. They sell boiled eggs that were laid the same day. They sell yummy green lemons, with rinds that are so rough and bumpy that you are tempted to call a dermatologist. And all that meat? Well, it is walking around town every day. In the lush, green neighborhoods of Nairobi, traffic often stops to let a herd of goats or cows go by. Some restaurants even keep a cluster of worried-looking goats a few steps away from the grill, just in case. And when there is drought, herdsmen have been known to water their cattle downtown. Here's a good food tip — a culinary poem, worthy of D.H. Lawrence at his food-writing best. When the air is angry with heat, think ice cream. The best ice creams in Nairobi are fresh and homemade, of course. On the Delamere Terrace of the venerable Norfolk Hotel, they serve camel's milk ice cream, which rests on a simple, macadamia nut tart baked with acacia-infused honey. Dried fruit tops the ice cream, and three dabs of passion fruit coulis — the color of egg yolks —- sparkle on the side. For the purists, the ice cream can also be served in a simple scoop, alone in a dish. They make it right there at the Norfolk, which dates back to the turn of the last century, when British colonials ran Kenya as both a playground and a mighty frontier. The camel's milk comes from the semi-arid stretches of northern Kenya, home to Kenyan pastoralists and thousands of Somali refugees and Kenyan Somalis. It is a staple there, but the milk is also sold in small quantities at grocery stores in Nairobi. Camel's milk ice cream is heavy and smooth on the tongue, and tastes a wee bit musky. The milk itself is so thick and sweet that it is simultaneously milk and cream. The ice cream has a quiet bite to it, as if there is some Creole cream cheese or light sour cream mixed in. The dish — "Muranga macadamia nut tart with camel milk ice cream" — isn't available at the restaurant every day, which makes it extra special. You have to wait for when the time is right. So wait. Because from the first cool mouthful, the ice cream enlivens the imagination to think of distant and exotic places: places where the moon rises over the desert like a flare, where no amount of shouting could fill the silence of an empty landscape, where even the din of downtown Nairobi recedes. Executive chef Abdalla Masoud brought camel's milk ice cream to the Norfolk, but what he really brought was a hint of grace. Norfolk Hotel — Harry Thuku Road, Nairobi, Kenya. Stealth, The site is working fine, OIC - Organization of Islamic Conference and Arab league are well-known for being the first to defend the unity and territorial integrity of Somalia in all international gatherings and forums, Somalia owes so much to Muslim and Arab brothers for their huge support Earlier, you claimed that the majority of MPs of Egal admin were from Sool, provide the source; the list of MPs, unless it was another lie ! In 1989, 1990 there was no war in North, Hargeysa was very calm and peaceful that’s undeniable fact, and people from SNM clan were returning to Hargeysa Burco in a huge numbers Already good “me” provided the evidence from a reliable source, this document is convincing because it was confidential one time "Winds of Peace Blowing Even in Northwest Somalia." - I**** clan are in fact returning to Burao and Berbera in growing numbers and, we were told, even larger numbers to outlaying villages. We met and interviewed some these. - GSDR and Somali army seem to be facilitating return if displaced persons. As Samantar promised (Mogadishu 2585). We no sign and heard no report of any harassment or punishment - On the other hand we saw precious little evidence of material help available to returnees, notwithstanding prime minister’s statement that foodstuff, medicines, and water supply equipment have been sent to Burao. Unfortunately, there was Somali people from every region in Somalia in refugee Camps for last 19 years, although most regions in Somalia were peaceful There was no major war in northern Somalia in 1989 and 1990, if you claiming that there was a war, its you who don’t know what you talking about, snm did committed major war crimes against non-snm tribes, and this criminal organization still waging aggressive wars against the people of sool sanaag and Cayn. recently when this mafia invaded Dhahar you said arrintu meel fiican bey marasaa, maxaa ka danbeeyey? however some troops battled for few hours and then it came into a hault. It cannot be considered as major. Don’t tell the war that forced the clan-state to fire its minister of defense was a small war If you have any clue of how this modern world works, you wouldn’t have entertained the notion of clan-state, 16 hopeless years is a clear evidence This is the position of the international community that includes Muslim nations UN The Security Council…reaffirms its commitment to a comprehensive and lasting settlement of the situation in Somalia and reaffirms its respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, political independence and unity of the country, consistent with the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations. OIC – Organization of Islamic Conference 1. Reaffirms its commitment to the restoration and preservation of the unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of Somalia. Arab League 1.7 - Reaffirming the unity and sovereignty of the sisterly Republic of Somalia, and supporting the efforts aimed at achieving national conciliation, peace and stability in this country To give you good example, let me take Somali galbeed as an example. Very poor example, you got F grade for this There is no similarities between the occupied somali region in Ethiopia, and the former british Somaliland 1. First smell the coffee, we are not in colonial era, the former British Somaliland colony ceased to exist in 1960 and its irrelevant today, while Somali region in Ethiopia is still occupied, some people are way behind and living still in colonial, its 50 ago for gods sake British somali colony is a dead entity just like east german, Soveit union, 2. The current clan-faction that is based in Hargeysa and the former British somali colony are two different entities, and have no link 3. Somalia doesn’t recognize the fake border between Somalia and Ethiopia, I consider soomaali galbeed as occupied land dhul soomaali ka maqan 4. In Somalia there is 18 regoin and not 2 regoins, markaa dadka qaar waxeey ubaahanyihiin inay iska saaraan caqliyada uu ku beeray isticmaarkii ingriisku 5. Laascaanood and Hergeysa don’t situate in same region, Laascaanood is in sool region, and Hargeysa is in Woqooyi galbeed, two different regions 6. Borame, Bosaaso, Hargeysa, Burco, Laascaanood, qardho all situate in Northern Somalia because they all locate north of Galkacyo 7. The people who live in the territories in former colonies of Britain and Italy are all Somali people one single nation that share one religion, one culture, one language, some of them even from same clans, while people from Somali region (Ethoipia) are different from Ethiopian people in many ways 8. Somali region is occupied territory by Ethiopia, somalia ayaduu dhulka maqanyahay , cdina dhul kama heysatu 9. Somali people freely and happily united together and created a country called Somalia, 10. All Somali people in the Somali region are against the Ethiopian occupation, while some people in the territories of former British colony want to secede from Somalia No referendum will take place anywhere in the foreseeable future, its 16 years and there is no referendum yet, Edna Aden said previously 2003 will be the recognition year Originally posted by stealth Secndly, those folks in Somali galbeed need to handle their own business, since offcourse they named the whole area under one tribe, then you are on your own peeps. There are many things for me to worry about in Somaliland. Such as making sure folks get better education, better health facilities and care. And all around good system of government which Insha Allah I hope follows the Islamic guidlines. First things first. You already acknowledged that you don’t care about Somali people in the occupied Somali region, The clan faction of so-called somaliland, its leaders (riyaala, siilaanyo waraabe), and its supporters all regard Melez and Ethoipia as a trusted and valuable ally For me, I still cannot understand how can a muslim and somali person can glorify colonial era and advocate for colonial borders, and consider Xabashi as a friend . Let alone someone who claimed to be Mujaahid and supporter of Islamic movement, ucuudubilaah dadka qaar munaafiqnimadooda yaad la argagaxasaa Bada cas is the guy who said that Faisal Waraabe is like the president of Islamic republic of Iran, he is the only in this forum, who openly celebrated when the noble blue flag is burned in Hargeysa No surprise that this fool considers the Ethiopian regime as an ally of the so-called Somaliland, and actually believes the infamous saying of his adeer Faisal, that Hergeysa boy is closer to Addis Ababa than boy from Mogadishu, very strange creature Snm was a mafia created by habashi secret service as a tool to destroy Somalia, hired by Habashi, fed by by habashi, clothed by habashi, and most members of snm were thugs, traitors, murderers and criminals. Other tribal factions were no different Why Ethiopia is welcome in Hargeisa, not in Mogadishu? Somaliland opposition leaders seem to have lost their political campus since the Ethiopian-backed Federal Transitional Government (TFG) routed the Islamic Courts in Mogadishu. Forgetting that Somaliland depends on Ethiopia for its bread and butter, Somalilanders consider Ethiopia a friend in deed and trustworthy ally Earlier, Ethiopia supported SNM and sheltered Somaliland refuges that fled from Somali Army bombings in 1988, this event reshaped Somaliland public view towards Ethiopia. Somalilanders consider Ethiopia a friend in deed and trustworthy ally. Somaliland National Movement (SNM) with mainstream of Somalilanders fought against Siyad Barre to liberate their territory and lastly formed Republic of Somaliland. Until today, Ethiopians are treated as Brothers. Its first time of Abyssinian History to have reliable friends in horn of African territory, besides its straining relations with Eritrea and Djibouti. Somaliland provides service and security facilities to Ethiopian, including high stable border security and Berbera port services. Berbera Port is major Ethiopian sea access point to international community. Ethiopian commercial goods pass through Somaliland peacefully with full scale protection. The border between Somaliland and Ethiopia is open, where Ethiopian citizens have free access to Somaliland territory, where they travel from Addis Ababa to Hargiesa without Passport, only Identity Card is required to ensure Ethiopian identity and vice versa. Ethiopia and Somalia went into war twice from 1960, where its border with Northern Part of Somalia (Known today, Somaliland) was hotbed for Somali infiltration into Ethiopia, and Ethiopia lost a lot of its soldiers due to infiltrating Somali Forces from northern parts of Somalia. in most parts due to what some here like G. Canood call a government. What you call a government? the clan-fiefdom TFG is an internationally recognized government of somalia like it or not I consider TFG as the legitimate government of all somalia, just like you consider the clan-faction led by former NSS officer Riyaale as the legitimate government! Nin walba waxa uu asagu yahay ayuu dadkale umaleeyaa Runtii, ninka ee cidna garaneen meel loogu soo hagaagtu iyo meel uu ujeedo waa Bada cas, Malaasoo soo qaaday wax yar hadii laga sheego snm cabaad buu aflabadii yeedhayaa, dadkale sida ssc kama nabad galayaan Based on his writing he seems a confused person with no principals,he has no position at all, he lacks adequate skills and behaviors to adequately contribute to a healthy debate When it comes to his clan-region its about the choice of the people, when it comes to SSC region its about former British colony, perfect example of hypocrisy Basically he is a hater, he enjoy bashing everything of SSC regions and united Somalia, although he is passionate supporter of the unity of the British colony, at same time he get angry when some says something about the snm or the clan faction I believe every Somali is welcome in Laascaanood who believes Somali unity I think its him who will go crazy and will cry crocodile tears , if he ever see a guy from Garowe or Mogadishu in places like Burco or Hargeysa , he will say a guy from Garowe is from Italian Somali colony not from British Somali colony, very backward mentality Also, he still cries about Siyaad regime, he think that siyaad is here to harm his home region northwest , somalidiid waxba ma oga Sool, sanaag and Cayn haters and somali midnimo haters are really jaahiliin, because they have colonial mindset, they believe that Somalia should be divided the way British and Italian colonials divided land of Somalis. So-called Somaliland admin is clan faction nothing else, no sugar coating, it’s the harsh truth, some people need to face, because they are Out of Touch with Reality If you cannot contribute, you don’t have to start insulting other members of the site personally, you need to focus on issues not cyber individuals like che and G. Canood Markaad marmarsiiyo uweydey gumeysigu waxa uu xarxariiqay, ayaad aflagaadeen iyo calaacal bilowday,

When in 1991, the SNM took control of the North of what is known today as Somaliland. In 1991 snm took control of northwest regions, after the government forces left north, when the central government in Mogadishu was overthrown In 1989 and 1990 north Somalia was under the full control of Siyad regime, there was no fighting or war, north Somalia was calm and peaceful For instances, the areas such as Awdal, Sanaag, and Sool. These areas are mostly inhabited by tribes other than the 'majority' tribe in Somaliland, which the SNM consisted mostly of. The period between 1991 and 1997 there was civil war between the snm sub-clans tribes, therefore Sool and Sanaag were not under snm militia Sool Sanaag and Cayn were never under the control of snm faction Only in 2002 that Riyaale militia invaded Sool and occupied Adhicadeeye If people of Sool Sanaag and Cayn are not yet part of so-called Somaliland, they can’t minority in the clan-state of Somaliland The SNM did commit crimes against these people, but however on very low scale, at least much less than was expected. Do you think that SNM should have committed more crimes against other tribes? What do mean much less than was expected? SNM fans can downplay the crimes of snm, however SNM militia particularly under the leadership of Siilaanyo did committed major and countless crimes against the people of Awdal, sool sanaag and Cayn SNM Militia waxaa caada u aheed inay xasuuq u geesatu dadka shacabka ee reer awdal, sool, sanaag cayn, ayada oo ku adacoonasa inay ka aar goosanasu dowlada SNM sects of Col. Ahmed Mire in Sool and Sanaag fronts killed some people who were previously accused of assisting the Barre campaign False, you can make exuses for snm SNM killed many innocent people including children, elders, women because of their qabiil affiliation Boqolaalkii xasuuq ee snm u geesatay dadka Awdal Sool Sanaag iyo Cayn, Waxaa kimid ahaa dhacdadan; Waxaa jirtay in maalin ciida in snm malitia eey kudishay magaalada Xudun dad kabadan 80 oo salad ciida u taagan oo ee kuu jiraan ciroole iyo caruur, dumar iyo rag however not large scale as what went in Southern Somalia. What took place was similar in nature, the differences were the circumstances 1) The northern Civil war took place when the government was still in power, the people from non-snm tribes left Hergeysa without being concerned about snm baclash . While in Mogadishu there was no government to facilitate the exodus of people from non-usc tribes to leave Mogadishu 2) Comparing to Mogadishu there was very small communities from non-snm tribes in Hargeysa, while in Mogadishu there were large and established communities from non-usc tribes. 3) When SNM took control over Hergeysa in 1991, there was few people from non-snm tribes, while in Mogadishu when USC took over the city, there millions of somali people from non-usc tribes in Mogadishu, somali people who left Hargeysa were also in Mogadishu "Xabadikeentay baa loo bixiyey", there was also large foreign communities like Yemenis, indians in Mogadishu Burco conference to establish what is known as Somaliland today. Those who attended hailed from all major/minor tribes of the North, almost no one was left out of that burco conference. If some individuals from SSC attended those conferences, well they are calooshoooda u shaqeestayaal since the majority of from SSC are against the secession Just like you lebelled Kallun, Sifir, Buubaa, many MPs from Northwest as calooshooda u shaqeestayaal for attending Somali reconciliation and peace conferences in Djibouti and Kenya No it's not because we 'fear' anything, we have no reason to be. If it’s not fear then why you guys oppose to join somali people? don't tell because they were colonized by Italians or because of Kacaan regime territorial integrity which is claimed by Somaliland are the territories which were marked by the british that joined the South (ex. Italian colonised territory). The clan faction of SNM has no right to claim all the territories of former British Somaliland People from SSC regions fought more than 60 years against British imperialists and more than one third of people sacrificed their lives to liberate their land over invaders and to eliminate the unjust fake border that British created to divide families, brothers, sisters, parents and their children, and dad walaala ah oo ah ul iyo diirkeed Somalia is commited to to preserve its unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of Somalia. The international community that includes most of the countries, All the international bodies like UN, Arab league, Organization of Islammic Conference, African Union, IGAD are as well committed to preserve the sovereignty, unity, independence, political independence and the territorial integrity of somalia UN The Security Council…reaffirms its commitment to a comprehensive and lasting settlement of the situation in Somalia and reaffirms its respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, political independence and unity of the country, consistent with the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations. OIC – Organization of Islamic Conference 1. Reaffirms its commitment to the restoration and preservation of the unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of Somalia. Arab League 1.7 - Reaffirming the unity and sovereignty of the sisterly Republic of Somalia, and supporting the efforts aimed at achieving national conciliation, peace and stability in this country. though many think that SL consists only 1 qabiil Secession is the Brain child of snm, and snm unitarily declared so-called Somaliland Proverb"Three things cannot long be hidden the sun, the moon, and the truth." . majority- can be define in SL as qabiil majoriy who mostly inhabit the areas known as Somaliland today. or it can be regarded as the 'will of the majority' defing the voices of those who want seccession vs. those who don't. b. As for 'minority'. It can also be being a minority, because one belongs into smaller qabiil or it can be a role which points out that one is outnumbered as far their voice against the seccesion.. Waxaad leedahay qabiildada qaar baa ah small or minority, sheekadii qabiilkeyga ayaa kaa badan ayaad lasoo shirtagtay Yes it's true the majority of rer sool are against the secesion of somaliland and most parts of Sanaag as well, however these areas are outnumbered by those who are for the seccesion in other areas of somaliland. Thus if referendum was taken in the areas which is claimed by Somaliland, the outcome would be a 'yes' vote for seccesion more than likely. How about this Yes it's true the majority of reer woqooyi Galbeed are against the unity of Somalia, however these areas are outnumbered by those who are for the unity in all other regions of Somalia. Thus if referendum was taken in the 18 regions of Somalia, the outcome would in a landslide majority Yes for unity of Somalia for sure people of SSC as well have the right to decide their destiny, and be part of Somalia as they choose, no one can force them to join clan feithdom Ps. as far as domination, reer sool made up the majority in the Somaliland parliament in the Igal admin as far as single clan family was concern. Haduu qofku been sheegayo, been run u eeg waa inoo sheegaa si loo rumeestu Provide the list of MPs to prove your baseless claims that reer sool made up the majority of So-called Somaliland parliament in Igal adm! Its undisputable fact, that Somaliland is dominated by snm clan One thing somaliland has done suprisingly is being very flexible to all clans, and today there are representives for each region that is willing to being part of somalilnd or otherwise. Only in the minds of snm fans, so-called Somaliland waging aggressive wars against the people of Sool sanaag and Cayn, in Adhicadeeye and more recently Dhahar There are representatives of woqooyi galbeed in somali government and parliament

Appointment of Special Envoy for Somalia Secretary Condoleezza Rice Washington, DC May 17, 2007 I am pleased to announce that I have appointed Ambassador John M. Yates as Special Envoy for Somalia. He will represent the United States with the Transitional Federal Institutions and other key Somali groups, as well as coordinate on Somalia with our regional and international partners. The United States is committed to helping Somalis develop their national institutions and overcome the legacy of violence and disorder of the past. By supporting the people of Somalia in this effort, we are also contributing to the peace and stability of the Horn of Africa, and to the African continent as a whole. 2007/400 Released on May 17, 2007 Rice names US envoy to Somalia Published: Thursday May 17, 2007 US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice announced on Thursday the appointment of a special envoy to Somalia to help the country overcome a "legacy of violence and disorder." The envoy, John Yates, a career diplomat and Africa expert who retired from the State Department in 2002, will represent the US government with new Somali institutions and with regional and international partners, Rice said in a statement. "The United States is committed to helping Somalis develop their national institutions and overcome the legacy of violence and disorder of the past," Rice said. "By supporting the people of Somalia in this effort, we are also contributing to the peace and stability of the Horn of Africa, and to the African continent as a whole." An Ethiopian-Somali offensive last month ended weeks of clashes with Islamist-led insurgents that killed hundreds of civilians and forced tens of thousands to flee. More than a dozen people have been killed and scores wounded in separate attacks since then, mainly by homemade bombs and grenades. Somalia, a nation of 10 million, has been without an effective government since the 1991 ouster of dictator Mohamed Siad Barre sparked a bloody power struggle that has defied numerous attempts to restore stability.

Bada Cas, Saxib, you should calm down first, I was just responding to your earlier nonsense When I say Somaliland, I am highlighting the areas in which was Ex-British Somaliland offcourse. Somaliland should include all the land of Somalis, forget about this colony You worship for this colonial entity, its history now and its irrelevant In order for these areas to seceed, let us say that Sool and parts of sanaag don't want to seceed, then referendum would be taken and more than likely, as these areas don't make the majority, they would lose out and therefore Somaliland' case would go into effect. First Sool Snaag and Cayn are not part of the Somaliland faction, No referendum will take place in SSC region, because people of SSC don’t recognize Somaliland So, now, I am not saying that people of Sool and Sanaag have to be forced to join Somaliland, Well you saying that referendum should take place on all the territories of former British Somali colony, which means you don’t respect the choice of the SSC people simply discuss or present a point. Yelling at me isnt' going to make a case for yourselves. No one yelling at you, the truth bothers you Lastly, my dear brother GC, neither Northerner nor I support Riyale Kahin, we actually think he is full of it, he is an id1iot no question about that, and NO we don't back that idiotic statement made by Faysal cali warabe which he said 'boy in addis is closer to me than the one in Xamar' that is really absurd, neither of us back that up. You admire Faysal Waraabe and even you said that he is like the president of Iran speak for yourself, don’t say we Who you fooling, we all know you support riyaale, waraabe But you clearly support Abdullahi Yusuf, there is no question about that buddy, anyhow that is another topic. I support TFG just like you two support so-called SL faction (snm)

Sheikh Nasser receives Zenawi in Kuwait City Kuwait, Ethiopia urge Somali unityPublished: Sunday, 13 May, 2007, 09:04 AM Doha Time Sheikh Nasser receives Zenawi in Kuwait City KUWAIT CITY: The prime ministers of Kuwait and Ethiopia yesterday called for the unity and independence of war-torn Somalia to be protected and for an end to the violence, a Kuwaiti official said. The official Kuna news agency quoted an official source as saying the two leaders emphasised the need to resolve disputes between African nations through peaceful means. The call was issued after a round of talks between visiting Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi and his Kuwaiti counterpart Sheikh Nasser Mohamed al-Ahmed al-Sabah. Kuwait City and Addis Ababa also agreed to boost bilateral co-operation in fighting terrorism, the official said. Zenawi, who arrived in Kuwait earlier yesterday on a two-day visit, said he would sign three agreements in tourism and culture, and his talks would focus on boosting economic ties. - AFP

^^do you expect me to take someone who cheers the TFG and Ethio seriously when it comes to this issue? Its a time saving exercise,,,,,, You support another habashi puppet - the former siyaad spy (riyaale) who openly supported the Xabashi invasion of Mogadishu You also support Waraabe, and you actually believe his famous saying

^^Some heart tingling brovado there. My what true 'somalinimo' Disputed SSC parts make up approx 35% of the whole SSC regions in my book and thats being generous. and you showed true somalilandnimo, Disputed region make up 100% of all the territories of the former British Somali colony Ever heard of the international community referring to the unity and the territorial integrity of Somalia

Bad Cas, Originally posted by Red Sea Sool and Sanaag are least developed in the region, is there any doubt about that? NO…. the people there are loyal to Pland for one thing only, qabiil. That is all… However, mostly they are anti Somaliland not only because of seccesion but because of Qabiil, You already admitted the people from SSC are pro-Somalia and are anti-somaliland, although you unjustly said those people from ssc are qabiilist Have we always been united, I bet you heard about the UNION in 1960, havent' you? Have the territories of former British Somali colony been always united? Never, you heard about the British colonizers Somalia is a country created by Somali people themselves, British Somaliland colony was created by British colonizers People of Somalia were united to create a country called Somalia, but people of the former British Somali colony didn’t want to create a so-socalled Somaliland , British Somali colony was a colony created by British colonizers, the colony came to existence only when colonizers came to land of Somalis and ceased to exist when colonizers left the land of Somalis. Same with Italian Somaliland it was created by Italian colonizers Forget about British Somaliland and Italian Somaliland it’s a past, no one wants to go back to the dark colonial history Well two parties gotten interested in each other, note two parties (present day Somaliland and Somalia). You are wrong here; the current Somaliland and Somaliland British colony are two different things and have no connection, only people with qabiilist mentality associate the somaliland faction (snm) with the former british somali colony The current Somaliland/snm only represents Woqooyi Galbeed region (Hargeysa, Burco and Barbara), Sool, East Sanaag, and Cayn are not part of the current Somaliland Sool and Sanaag were in the bandwagon of Somaliland, and thus share the same history, sub culture, dialect etc.. with the rest of Somaliland. Sool and Sanaag wanted to unite with rest of Somalia, and they still want to remain in the union People sool and sanaag share the same history, same subculture, same dialect with people of Puntland just like people of Daroor/Gaashaamo and people of Hargeysa/Burco share the same history, sub culture, dialect etc.. As for Somalia, the present day Puntland and Southern Somalia made up what was the other 'party' which were involved in that agreement of the union. You are behind, you the mind of the colonial era You talking about Italian Somaliland which is irrelevant and NOT talking about Somalia Today there is something called Somaliland (Hargeysa, Burco, Barbara), Puntland (Garowe, Laascaanood, Boosaaso, Dhahar, Laas Qorey, Galkacyo), Hiiraan, Banaadir, Juba, Shballe In 1960 two colonies united (NOT two nations) Pland and the rest of Somalia have the SAME history and experience, while the people of Sool and Sanaag have the same history and experience as those living in Hargeysa, Awdal, Togdheer etc.... All your arguments are based on colonial legacy to justify the current tribal faction of snm British and Italian Somaliland are history and irrelevant today brother People of Sool and sanaag and the people of Bari, Nugaal have same history and experience,I don't know what you talking about however it may come as a suprise to some of you that actually the folks in Laas Canood are more closer to Burco, ….as far as dialect, sub culture than those in Gorowe and Bosaaso. Yes, as far as qabiil you may say they are related. Again Qabiil isn't a factor here. Thats not true, because if its true you wouldn't have said that people from SSC are qabilist so nomads from Laascaanood in SOL, don't share this nonsence (subculture) with you Its fact that people of Daroor/Gaashaamo are closer to people of Hargeysa/Burco then those in Laascaanood, How will you explain? According to Somaliland websites people of Daroor and Gashaamo are beelo Somaliland ah, while those from dhagaxbuur and wardheer are not beelo Somaliland ah tell why? And don’t tell it is because those from daroor/gashaamo share same dialect, subculture with Burco and Hergeysa while those from Dhagaxbuur/Wardheer are not People of Laascaanood are closer to people of Garowe and Boosaaso then those in Hargeysa and Burco as far as dialect culture as far as dialect, sub culture are concerned People of Zeylac are closer to people Djabouti then those of Laascaanood as far as dialect, sub culture are concerned So what is your point? Every two Somali communities that are neighbors, live side by side and intermarried for hundred of years there is nothing special about the relationship between the people of Laascaanood and Burco , people of Laascaanood and Garowe are one people and also they are neighbors the people in Ceerigabo are more closer to those in Dhahar Same families and same sub-clan lives in Dhahar and Ceerigaabo! You ask any brother/sister from Laas Canood of their relations to reer Burco, or those in Ceerigabo to their relations to those living in Badhan or Dhahar, they will tell you, their causins, aunts, iyo abtiyaal are from either ceerigabo, Burco and so forth. Also ask any brother/sister from Laas Canood of their relations to reer Garowe they will tell you, their causins, aunts, iyo abtiyaal are from Garowe, Galkayo, Boosaaso, Ask any brother/sister from Burco of their relations to reer Daroor, Gashaamo they will tell you, their causins, aunts, iyo abtiyaal are from Daroor, Gashaamo (Somali region) Ask any brother/sister from Zeylac, Lo'yacade of their relations to reer Djibouti they will tell you, their causins, aunts, iyo abtiyaal are from Djibouti Also ask any brother/sister from Daroor and Burco of their relations to reer Dhagaxbuur/Wardheer, they will tell you, their causins, aunts, iyo abtiyaal are from Dhagaxbuur/Wardheer The only thing that relates one from galkacayo to one from Laas Canood is qabiil blood, The only thing that relates one from Burco to one from Hargeysa is qabiil blood? The only thing that relates one from Hergeysa to one from Barbara is qabiil blood The only thing that relates one from Daroor/Gaashaamo to one from Burco is qabiil blood Think before you write, people will use the argument against you, because your arguments are very weak and have no basis Are you sure the man in Laascaanood isn’t much closer to Garoowe as far as " history, sub culture and dialect" is concerned? Hargeisa iyo halkaa fog maxaad ula aaday Daraawiishta? Nugaal baaban ku ogayne? Sanka, Bad Cas is manufacturing stories to support Somaliland’s unjustifiable claim over SSC region Northerner, ^^please say people of 'parts' of SSC regions (the disputed regions are 'parts' and not all of the SSC regions). The SOL theory of the whole SSC regions being in dispute needs to die down. When so-called Somaliland and the secessionists stop claiming all the territories of the former British Somali colony, then we might consider reviewing the SSC term The disputed region covers all the territories of the former British Somaliland not just parts of the SSC regions

Somehow I knew you would miss the point You certainly misunderstood why I posted this article, I posted this article is to show that soc-called Somaliland faction is weak and confined only in Hergeysa, and fortunately you can’t say the article is bias because it was written by a confused secessionist Sxb cuqdada saar, don’t make it big deal if I posted small article written by a insignificant man who has no country complaining about the ineffectiveness of his rebel faction See other articles I posted in the politics section, instead of making issue of why I posted this article You don't accept Somaliland as a nation yet here you are posting an article that clearly does so! The fact is that it doesn't exist, Everyone including children knows that there no country or nation called Somaliland, The author is revealing the weaknesses of the sland faction that’s the point When a British reporter or MP criticize the wrongdoing of his government like Mr.Gollaway, Some people like Arabs and muslims are welcoming because they are against the British imperialism Recently, secessionists in this site supported some Somali politicians like Sheikh sheriff, Aweys, who oppose TFG, although these politicians consider themselves as somalis from Somalia, support the territorial integrity and unity of Somalia, and most importantly some of these politicians condemned the notion of secessionism, why they still support ? Because they willing to support anyone will oppose or challenge the TFG When a secessionist criticize the weaknesses of his rebel faction (clan militia), those who oppose the secession will welcome, thats common sense It's obvious that you have a soft spot for the idea Miskiin, I am sorry to disappoint you, in reality you don’t know what you talking about I never supported the secession, and I will never support it get that, I believe it’s foolish to entertain unfeasible daydreams of snm faction like outdated clan-feithdom, restoration of old European colony war es dheeb ban ku edhi. oo yaan isku dhiibaa mawaxaan jirin, jiridoonina war hurdada ka kaca, waxaa lasoo gaaray wakhtigii aad naaf taada u sheegileheed cid dunida maanta u diyaar inay maaaweelisu riyada sland majiru Or else, you're just mad Don’t insult me, simply discuss the issues not G. Saxib, my country is Soomaaliya, The article is solely the opinion of the writer; it doesn’t reflect my own opinions I don’t always post articles that reflect my views, like some SOLers who all they know is propaganda, I read what others think, and sometimes I share articles wrote by those who don’t support my views This article is for northwest Somalis (ee ayagu isku bixiyey Somalilanders)

Somaliland is Hargeisa only and Hargeisa is Somaliland In this country at all levels of government, elected and appointed officials are making decisions that profoundly affect the people. These decisions do not reach the people outside the capital Hargeisa. Elected and appointed officials must be concerned about the views and interests of all their constituents in the whole country. If these officials ignore the voters in the regions they would not hold office very long. The five other regions of Somaliland is entirely isolated from the capital Hargeisa. There is no media whether radio, television or news papers that can reach the regions. The only source of information in this modern technology today is the people traveling to and from Hargeisa. These people often bring speculative information not the facts. If the government makes a statement in a public forum which carries more weight, there is no timely media coverage. Speeches are especially powerful means whether in parliament or the executive and needs to be presented live. Important events are not known by the people in the regions. There is a national television as well as commercial television stations in Hargeisa. The national radio and the daily news papers are also in the capital only. All these do not reach even the regions near the capital. There is ministry of posts and communications and there is no even local postal service in the country. The internet which has become an essential communication in the world to reach the people is not widely used here. It is not possible to know the groups and individuals who are arguing against the position of this administration and there is no means to address these issues and offer counter argument timely. It is not difficult to at least upgrade radio Hargeisa to reach the whole country but the resources are being used at the wrong time and in the wrong place. There are no good roads which connect the capital to the other regions as well. Al most one third of the population of Somaliland lives in Hargeisa. This is the only city where you can see business movements. All the resources of the country are spent in the capital and still Haregisa is a ghost city. The only road of Hargeisa is not even repaired. The trenches in this main road of the capital can damage your car. Rubbish is every where and the hygiene situation is appalling. The water is also rationing and the people get their water from dirty manholes under the bridge. The borders of Somaliland are open and it is easy to have access from any border point. Burao is completely not connected to Somaliland and uses the old notes of Somalia and have business transactions with the southern Somalia. Counterfeit products are sold in the stores. These items are sometimes expired and nobody bothers the health hazard this can cause to the public. The trees are cut for charcoal and There is dangerous erosion to the good soil. Donor agencies are all stationed in the capital. They usually finance the organizations in the capital and only finger tips reach the regions. The local councils are incompetent and cannot even look after what the private sector is engaged. There all sorts of products that are sold in the market and sometimes not valid for human consumption and nobody bothers. The people in the councils are badly untrained and are engaged to grab the meager resources of the public for a bribe. Almost all the budget of the central government is spent in Hargeisa and you cannot see any development any where. Corruption plagued all levels of government and it is difficult to get a remedy in future. The government of Hargeisa is so far in different to the new developments in the south as if it does not affect them. If they do not comment on the situation and inform the public their position on time this will create the administration and the people to head in opposite directions. Keeping silent in these situations will make the issue more complex and not easy to solve in future. Understanding politics is not simply a matter of learning about different forms of governments and elections only. Politics is the attempt of people to regulate the society in which they live. The people want to control their government but do not want their government to control them beyond the limits of providing law and order and a healthy society. The problem of creating workable balance between liberty of the individual and authority of the state is the crucial job which must be accomplished before any system can work and survive. Democracy means active participation by all citizens in all the affairs of the country. The participation of the people in the decision making of their country is exercised through their elected representatives and the political parties who will make the check and balance on behalf of the people. This will greatly increase the size and functions of the government not reduce it. Allowing more political parties will cut the chain of three parties with the same leadership dominating the political scene for ever. More political parties contesting are sound democracy in action. It is not possible that only 3 persons dominate the political spectrum forever. This means keeping always a loosing candidate at the party ticket. In this respect the constitution is the highest law of the country. An amendment on the provision of the political parties needs to be made so that this can address contemporaneous practical problems. It is not fair that every body take the law of the country in his own hands and make interpretations of his own to fit their choice. The parliament being the legislative body of the country should enact this amendment before the presidential election so that the country is saved from authoritarian rule which ultimately lead to conflicts and turmoil. The parliament already experienced the single handedness of the administration and the inability of the opposition to make any difference and I think this is a force than can move them to fulfill the will of the people requiring an amendment in the constitution allowing more political parties. The people who announced a political party should make the necessary lobbying through the proper channel (parliament) and I am sure they are ready now to listen to their constituents. If democracy is to gain root and flourish citizens should be allowed to meaningfully exercise their democratic rights and the 3 persons always at the top of the parties be challenged. Public relations are a means for engaging constituents in constructive dialogue. The news media is an excellent vehicle for disseminating information to the people. It also enhances the public awareness of the society to know what is happening in their country as well as the outside world. There is no acceptable reason at all from this administration why radio Hargeisa cannot be upgraded and developed to reach the whole country so that the people are interconnected and get information at least at the moment. Somalia: Mogadishu business companies surrender their arms Aweys Osman Yusuf Watch Images Mogadishu 03, May.07 ( Sh.M.Network) Four major business companies based in the capital Mogadishu have surrendered their arms to the Somali transitional government as huge ceremony for the occasion was held at Mogadishu police center Thursday. At least 151 Mogadishu based business firms have been registered for the weapons surrender. The head of Somali national police force, Abdi Qeybdid, and the African Union UPDF officers were among many Ethiopian and Somali officers who received the largest number of arms surrendered to the transitional government ever since it moved to the capital on January. During the occasion, Qeybded commended the businessmen for being vanguard for the other heavily armed firms in Mogadishu. The business companies have had the largest number of armed militias and the largest number of heavy weaponries, trying to protect their properties and wealthy business. Among the companies that gave up their arms were Hormoud tel-com. Telcom, Dahabshil and Amal, two telecommunication firms and two money wiring companies. These companies have also given up number of pickup trucks mounted with anti-aircraft guns “This is an important step forward and we do hope that many Mogadishu trade firms will follow,” Qeybdid told journalists. The Ugandan troops were soon busy loading clusters of AK47 guns into their pickup military trucks. The Ugandans have lately been roaming through out the neighborhoods where fighting between government troops backed by the Ethiopian forces and Islamic insurgents took place. The government promised it would position forces at Bakara Market and business centers around it. More images

A government soldier inspects weapons handed over by members of the business community, Thursday, May 3, 2007, in the Somali capital Mogadishu. Members of the powerful business community in the capital, Mogadishu, handed over 25 boxes and 20 sacks filled with weapons, seemingly heeding the government's call for the gun-infested city to disarm. The government is trying to establish full control over the city after an Islamic insurgency sparked some of the worst fighting here in 15-years.(AP Photo/Farah Abdi Warsameh) Mayor of Mogadishu Bans Weapons By MOHAMED OLAD HASSAN The Associated Press Friday, May 4, 2007; 9:30 AM MOGADISHU, Somalia -- A former warlord who has long lived by his gun was sworn in as mayor of Mogadishu on Friday and immediately ordered residents of the Somali capital to get rid of their weapons. But Mayor Mohamed Dheere offered no clear details on how that could be accomplished in a city awash in Kalashnikov rifles, machine guns and hand grenades. Previous efforts to get residents to give up their weapons have been unsuccessful. "No weapons are allowed in the city," Dheere, who spent 16 years as a warlord struggling for power in this Horn of Africa nation, said at his inauguration ceremony. "Anyone who violates this directive will be punished." The new police chief, Abdi Qeybdiid, also called for residents to disarm Friday, and said cars with blacked-out or tinted windows must go. "Anyone who fails to abide by these rules will be brought before the court," he said _ a surprising assertion in a city that has seen little more than chaos for more than a decade. Dheere is trying to build on a fragile peace carved out by clan deal-making and a fierce military crackdown on Muslim militants. Aid groups say 1,670 people were killed between March 12 and April 26 and more than 340,000 of the city's 2 million residents fled for safety as the government, backed by Ethiopian troops, pressed to wipe out an Islamic insurgency. It was not clear how long the calm would last _ extremist Islamic leaders have vowed their forces would rise up again. But the violence was also spurred by a struggle for power among Somali clans, and that element may have subsided because of efforts to appease the clans, including the weekend appointment of Dheere as mayor. Dheere's powerful clan, the ******, had complained of being ignored by the government. Somalia has been mired in chaos since 1991, when warlords overthrew dictator Mohamed Siad Barre and then turned against each other. The current government was established in 2004, but has failed to assert full control. With the crucial aid of troops from neighboring Ethiopia, Somali forces ousted a militant Islamic group known as the Council of Islamic Courts over the New Year. But the group promised to launch an Iraq-style insurgency, and the capital was soon enduring weeks of artillery battles and shelling between the warring sides. The relentless violence is among the reasons many Somalis have been reluctant to give up their arms. But in a hopeful sign for the government, several members of the powerful business community in the capital handed over 25 boxes and 20 sacks filled with weapons, saying they would now depend on government forces to protect them. But violence and crime continues to be a challenge. On Thursday, gunmen seized three boats off the coast of Somalia's semiautonomous Puntland region, said Andrew Mwangura, head of the Kenyan chapter of the Seafarers Assistance Program. Mwangura had no update on the situation Friday.
