hmmm i have read what u said, and i went back to my earlier response in this topic, and in it no way did i say it was "weird" or said that this culture is "bad" and had nothing good about it. In my response, i am addressing that problem which exist in asian countries, their mentality toward women, and trying to see what the causes. In indian culture, and some places still today, practiced having a woman being burned with her dead husband, as if her life wasn't worth living or she wasn't anything without him. Those are the behaviors we are angry at. As to me knowing about indian culture, u right i don't know a lot about it, and didn't even pretend to when i replied even though i am listening to an indian song. We might not have a lot of cultural celerbrations or rituals, in part due to our islamic religion, as the indian or chiness do, but that in no way gives u the right to be little our culture. As u yourself said there is bad and good in every culture. Now to as to no Somali woman respecting her husband like Indian woman, let me just say that maybe I don't touch your feet everyday, or even starve myself for for my husband to get a long life in full moon time, but I will ask for his health, strength, and happiness five times a day when I pray to Allah. Since I was the disignated driver as you mentioned my name first, i am in no way representing the opinions of every nomad here. So what I say stands for me now personally, so please don't try to generalise my response here.

Well As to Somali going to war over that, at this time in our lives, i guess i can say that Somali people would fight about anything. But again that mentality is associated with women in cultures such as those to be a "property" not a human being. When a woman's life value is less than of dogs, it's hard to see anyone being upset about their deaths. U know what, i can see how this might for some people be about the survival of fittest. I mean if u keep a girl and she has to compete with other guyz for everything, it's correct to assume that a woman would at one stage be not strong enough to do so. Another part for the survival mentality of families, is the practice that when a woman marries a man she takes his name and drops her family's name, so that sense of imortality having something of urs live on for eternity, isn't really continued with women. Such practice could be seen in Somali culture, where it isn't the name, but the tribes name of the father, that children carry on. I am in no way excusing those actions, but it wasn't something that was born one day, and it wouldn't be something ending in one day. And we ourselves must be careful, that over the next generations we don't come to the same mentality of having men lives be more valuable than women!!!

Well Shyhem i am not saying that we are doing it intentionally but that notheless doesn't makes it okay for us to have those type of behaviors toward the handicapped. It is for us to know what we are doing is hurtful and make efforts to change those types of attitude. As to west affording to to help them, it wasn't always that easy but they are trying to make changes and that's all i am asking us as a society to do. And as most of us live in those west countries now ourself it's already half way, it's just that practice and mentality that needs to be changed so that we allow our handicapped children now to use the opportunties avaliable and avoid the discrimination in later generations. If one thing is seen in somali communities now is the somali people's adaptability toward other cultures, it's just yet we hadn't picked the good ones!!!!!! I guess what i am trying to achieve with this topic, is maybe next time the thoughts accur to anyone here to stop and say "that's wrong", and be concious of your attitudes. loooooooooool Idi so u telling me u knew who i was from the start ha hmmmmmm well at least u know my problem now, i can never have multipule personalities disorder. See that new country made me so talkative now i am all over the place, i just hope they open the door soon before i run out of things to lecture back home hmmm i wonder what happened to OCEANS and Ayan from there!!!!

There is no excuse for such actions in my opinion. but i can see that after a long time of being conditioned about the value of one gender against the other it's not easy to distinguish how wrong we have becme at times. Societies as such in Asia, since the women leaves her family and become part of another family, maybe parents feel that in their old age, their sons are more likely to care for them. Men are the bread winner and continue to be that if married or not, where as the women's financial situation changes with her marital status. Another reason could be the societies expectations and double standards in how they react to actions of both genders. Woman who sleeps with many men is a "whore" "slut" where as a man who sleeps with many women is a "Player" or a "experienced" and so many other non offensive names for him. So we create this societies with different rules of conducts and leading to a differentiation in our values for men and women. I once remember being told that if a man raises three good muslim daughters he gets to go to Jinnah. Where if he did so with 3 sons he doesn't. It's interesting though, that human race can continue without men really being here, if we only save few sperms. But without women, men can't continue human race. Yet through all of the millions of year, we still struggling to have equality

THE SUMMER IS COMING SOON WHRE DO YOU GO FOR VACATION
SCORPION_SISTA replied to farey's topic in General
summer school and work. But maybe i would be able to check Ohio and Vancuver insha allah this summer too. But at least i was able to go to London this past decemember so i can't complain now. For the rest, u all have a safe and wonderful jouneries -
Hey C_L woman what's up? It's really interesting points u have mentioned. So insha allah this summer, i am going to volunteer for something that has to do with kids who have special needs or handicapped. that will provided me with the information i need and would be able to supply to somali people that might not know about the opportunities are avaliable for their kids. Really appriciate it. As to Che_Guevara, i seen ur post in the other topic and i appriciate u yelling at people and hopefully everyone here would be an effort to do so to and the attitude might spread and hopefully in couple of years we wouldn't have that mentality. bee bye for now.
-
hey observer that's interesting, sorry i can't read the somali ones right now, it may take me weeks to read them all but i would read them insha allah. As to ur question Lefty, maybe i think it goes back to the root of Adam and Eve. U know the believe in some religions such as christinaty that she was the reason they were kicked out of Heaven. So they associate the downfall of men to women. Because it's in women's nature sort of mentality. Women are viewed as the seductress or temptress that makes a men behave in ways that aren't good for them. I guess it could explain why for long times it was believed that women had no soul in some religion. At least that's my opinion!!!! bee bye.

DO SOMALIAN YOUNG GENERATION CARE IMPORTANCE OF TIME?
SCORPION_SISTA replied to murefu's topic in General
hmmmmm are u asking if our generation respects time in reference to others???? Well if that is the question, then i haven't seen many that have. As matter I have ended quite a lot of acquintances because of that type of behavior. People would say they would something at a particular time and they don't and one just waste their time because they believed them. I don't accept that type of behavior, but i noticed a lot of other people tolerate it because they be like "well what can i do" well for one thing stop letting people get away with such disrespect and as the behavior was or had been taught, after years it could be untaught. Well i gave you my 1 1/2 cents I just hope it's just for what u were asking for I think maybe Jawahiir he was talking somali people respecting other somali people times not to school or work stuffs, because i did noticed that mentality of time changes when it concerns another somali. At least that's how i had seen it. -
Why is it considered a TABOO to date an Older Woman?
SCORPION_SISTA replied to DA_BEAST's topic in General
hmmmm interesting question because it's making me question my believes. U know as when i was younger, i didn't like older women with younger men because i believed that intellectually they wouldn't be compatiable, because men mentally grow slower than women. And i thought a older man with younger women (mind you u i am speaking of max 15 years age difference here) was okay because then he was probably at the same level in intelligence as her But as one tends to grow up, i have changed my mind. I am okay now with older women marrying a younger man (i could think of a huge benefit in one depatment ) because there are guyz with high level of maturity at a young age. So I say if an older woman fell in love with a younger man go for it, because really it isn't like it is his fault his parents had he later than you NO MORE DISCRIMINATIONS -
A lot of interesting perspective on this issue, i appriciate it much. I understand that things change as one marries and that's understandable, things even changes when one of friend is dating. But not end it all the way, i mean friends can make compromises or adjustments and still have that good friendship. I mean it isn't like true friends are falling out of trees now days!!! Now CLOWN you saying that really makes u sound shallow. I mean u basically saying that u would date anyone as long as she is good looking I mean u got to have other standards beside that to choice a girl u would date   and besides would u waste a someone that's really a good friend to u for few months of romantic drama

lol lol Idi mate what's up with ya!!! well u know i was a hard core citizenship but with the censhership and what not i decided to seek asylum else where. Unfortunately that new country of mine decided to go underground while i was out. so there i was sitting on the bench with my suit case and ideas so i thought i still have that passport for original country, so thought i would sneak back for little bit. By the way, u figured me out ha, but again it isn't like there were many choices there!!! Che_Guevara, I find it interesting that u said instead of being angry i should try to educate people about it. Yet at the end all u suggested for u to do was just to pray, why not also educate people. Prayers are good, but lets face things don't get solved because we just simply pray hard. One has to make changes and get involved. As u already suggested i try to do that, How do u think i should go about it? How do i try to make parents aware and a whole community for that matter that just cause a child is handicaped u don't have to make them believe they are worthless and don't deserve anything??? Any suggestion would be helpful because i am interested in committing to this issue. till then bee bye!!!

As I was walking today around the campus, I saw this handicapped student. And I remembered a conversation I had with a friend of mine about couple of days ago. She had attended this wedding of a nineteen-year-old girl, who seems to be mentally handicapped. The attitude of her family was that she is not going to school and isn?t working, but she can cook and clean so why not marry her off. Gosh hearing that brought a lot of emotions in me but mainly anger. American people here have special schools, teachers, and bathroom spaces or even in restaurants, have Olympics for their handicapped or "Retarded" people. You can see them working at markets, although doing small jobs, still they are independent in that way. Yet, those Somali's I have been exposed to treat a Somali person with handicap ness as if they aren't worth our attention. As if they should just dig a grave and throw themselves in it. I have a cousin that when he was young, he got ill and afterward he couldn't walk. I remember how the kids in our blocks didn't want to play with him and others ignore him completely. I was always getting into fights with other kids because of their teasing. He wasn?t sent to school and they always tried to make him change and he resisted every effort to change who he was, "Accept me like I am." He lives in Sweden now, actually those that live there might have seen him on TV, and I got to say it's definitely one good thing that came out of this war in my opinion. He is attending University now, studying to be a filmmaker. He plays basketball and other sports, even though he is in wheelchair. But I hate the idea that despite all that if he tries to get married, a person would look at him and see nothing but that handicap ness. Like that's his identification tag, not that he is intellectual, love classic music, or anything about who he really is, they just are "Giis". I could commit murder thinking that he and others like him could be discriminated against for something they had nothing to do with. So can anyone tell that despite all the opportunities that are available to them, Somali parents treat their kids as invalid or worthless, because she/he is bit slow or can't use their limbs for some reason?

S.O.S. I KNEW I LEFT SOMETHING OUT OF THAT LIST. THANX FOR THE REALLY GOOD POINTS.

STILL MAKES ME LAUGH.

lol lol lol lol lefty. For others thanx for the input it's much appriciated. after posting this last night, i was watching the comeday channel, and there was this guy talking about opposite sex being friends. And he was like, that relationship is like applying for a job (for man) and employer(meaning female) telling ya this is a great resume but we cann't hire u. Although we will judge everyone that applies to this position by this standards. empolyers then asks if it's possible for them to call them so they can complain about whom ever they hire.
