"My main concern is; "is it lately on the rise for some reason or did people suffer/die from it but no one was aware of it?" I don't live around an area with large Somali population so i really don't know about statistics and what not...But one reason for supposdely the increase in liver diseases seen is due to the awarness of younger generations of Somali therefore forcing elder generations such as their parents to go for medical check-ups and what not...At times maybe older generation go to doctors for something else and when a full check- up is done or screening occurs they might find they are suffering from liver disease which they didn't know about...I do also believe(no scientific knowledge) that older generation are not as active as they had been back in Somalia...For example, many now choose to sit in cafes or homes to talk instead of how many people, my recollection, back in Somalia used to go for long walks around the areas after eating meals and what not...Another reason could be even though we are eating the same type of foods the ingredient or the level of fat or unsaturated fat is not the same...So our bodies might not react to it the same...Or we can't take the increased unhealthy food levels and metabolize...So probably people should not eat the same food as much as they do now, espically elder generations...That's all i could thing of as a cause for the rise in liver diseases...Hope i helped, bee bye.

Hey Libin I am been trying to get to posting a reply to this topic for couple of weeks now…My grandfather died of liver disease back in Somalia, as matter of fact, both of my grandfathers passed away due to Hepatitis C….Hope these information are beneficial, I don’t know though their extreme relative-ness to Somalia’s liver disease…Let me know if u have specific interest in a branch of these diseases…Hepatitis C virus (HCV) effects about 170 million people worldwide. And the usual forms of transmission is blood transfusion especially prior to 1990’s, sexual transmission methods, and the use of intravenous drugs…Most people though are infected by exposure to contaminated blood or blood products…It can become chronic but it is rare and in those cases it causes a liver failure (such the case in my grandfathers)…Some people may develop cirrhosis probably due to alcohol abuse (I assume not applicable in Somalia, but probably can be a cause in our generation now), and others develop end-stage liver disease as mentioned previously…Now another liver disease concern I feel is HBV which is endemic in parts of Asia…It has the same form of transmission methods but can also be transmitted from a mother to an infant in the prenatal period…In hepatitis B case, the chance of development into chronic hepatitis depends on age…Some symptoms such as loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, fever, abdominal pain, and jaundice can be an indication factors…Fortunately this hepatitis B unlike HCV can be diagnosed easier because it has a serum HBeAg which has antibodies treatment available…Oh I got to go now, but let me know if u need anymore information…I know there are multiple liver diseases, but I tried to choose one in closeness to what I had seen…Of course our possibilities and chances of facing other liver diseases has increased now due to change in our lifestyle (more sexual activities/drugs) and diets (alcohol drinking) and etc…Also I think it’s very important to insure that whenever a person is getting blood transfusion to be sure that the blood they are receiving has been triple time checked if necessary...Even going to butcher areas and buying meat, it's very important to ask questions about the products and see how healthy the area looks and if there are a lot of blood around…I hope I helped in anyways…Bee bye.

What would u do if you were in my shoes?

hmmmm...A year and half ago, when i joined this forum, i might have replied to ya in emotional way...But trust me Qa'Qa i definitely wasn't driven to reply to you out of emotions...And i do know we have different opinions that is a fact thank Allah...First of all, U know most of us here or atleast before the raid of teens, are propbably around 20's to mid 20's if not above...So we were all raised by mothers who didn't attend clubs or party and we(as in our generation) regardless of that upbringing, have attended clubs, drank alcohol, and did drugs...Second of all, most of women, who even are wild in their 20's, there is no indication that they wouldn't settle down when they get married and take parenthood responsibilites very serious...U know what, a mother who might have partied in her youth, is more likely to know or better equiped to handle kids in these countries because she had experiences and would more likely able to know when her kid is doing something or lying about something...All woman parent does (pure and party girls) is teach their kids from right and wrong, and yah party girls know the difference too, and it's up to those children to choose their path...An understanding mother is more helpful than a unaware mother...Personal opinion...bee bye P.s. Qa'Qa i said pure=great kid raising skills, and i do still believe that was what u were logically asking us to deduce from your earlier statement...Anyways, doesn't matter, i said all i am going to say on this.......................... -

hehehehehehe...U know what i have this tendency to remember s.t.u.p.i.d/ridicules posts and yours falls under that catogory...Of course i couldn't pass without commenting on the ironic twist...Although i have to say i am dissapointed in ya, u see i thought u changed, but then u made this comment now and i knew in no way have you grown up...As to my tooth paste, i rather stick with crest and scope i don't like colgate...Beside i am not like you, guys don't be all up in my mouth...As for the number thanx but no thanx i am sure you have tried that number many times yourself and used their services or u wouldn't have recommended them...But u see i am kind the woman who likes to get what she wants in personal ways...BTW i am sorry to hear even with all those calls, u still ended up with the weird speed away fella...Maybe he been around the block too many times...Unless of course, u choose the previously used up guy...Gosh i do feel bit sorry for him...Anyways, that's life...Bee bye p.s. i think u need to come up with new ways of insulting women or me specially, because it's quite tiring for you to always go for "need a man" punches...Expand your horizons...oh yeah thanx you very much for the laugh -

loooooooool two last replies just cracked me up...Now religious guys are synonomas with good husbands ha...So now the secret is if i don't date anyone the person i would end up marrying would 100% not break my heart...Do u swear to that now Qa'Qa!!!!! Because according to you, hearbreaks are result of a woman getting involved in dating rituals...U know though what i loved was the part about guys going back to look for the "clean ones" or "pure girls" because he can trust her with kids...I would have never seen that connection in million year...Being pure=great kids raising skills...That's for sharing... oh before i leave, finesista2005 now u agreeing with Qa'Qa ha well i must say u came a long way from the girl who asked if guy y played her, whom if i remember correctly, invited him to your house when your parents weren't there. To the girl who is looking for the real deal (marriage)...U know what, maybe u should check that guy u used to use for stuffs and who wanted to marry you, maybe he became religious...Just a thought............. Bee bye -

Hey lambda i thought blacks or africans didn't have a resistant to HIV virus...As a matter fact, i thought it was only the european descendent, who had people exposed to the black death, had developed a resistant to AIDS...To say that there is an african person also is quiet interesting...See if you can find her brackground information with the article...This is exciting news for me...bee bye. -

Stem cells and regenerative Medicine

Thanx lambda that's quiet interesting, but at the same time scary...I mean can you imagine the links some people might go to, if they had the money, to cure their illness and what not...In USA, there is a big controversy about stem cell research, because some poeple, dislike the fact that they use aborted fetus and at times make a baby in test tubes and then kill them off if their genetic make-up didn't match the reciepient...Anyways, keep informing us about these scientific developments, i am sure i would have more questions, and u will see me back again. Libin, first of all like your name, my cousin has this name too...I also wanted to mention that in european and america people with AIDS are living longer because of the medicine avaliable here that is not in africa...Also africa themselves made this problem worse, by tabooing sex educations and talks, and also creating this sense of alienation for people with diseases that at times they didn't tell their partners about having AIDS. bee bye -

hey lambda thanx a lot for giving us this information. I find it quiet interesting. I was watching couple of months ago this american show called "law and order" and it was dealing with this issue. If i remember correctly, this guy who had parkinson's disease was having certain women with brain damage to be impregenated and then they would abort the child and use those stem cells. I had a question though, does the fetus one receives stem cells from should have the same DNA as the person getting the stem cells or they don't have to have any relationship to each others? and what are the chances of matches for cells like those between relatives? Thanx again for posting this topic...We as a young generation must keep with all these scientific advancement. U know what's sad, that a lot of african diseases are so easily curable in western and european countries but they are life threatening in africa -

I don't agree with your theory...I think that is oversimplyfying things...First of all, if i am not mistaken, supposdely jin who overtakes a body, usally exzibt their personality through, and they have different voices and attitudes...Now jin domination of a body or a person has nothing to do with social logical issues, it's just a pure luck...Now multiple personality to me, really comes from one person trying to cope with many espect of their lives and over a long period of suppression of certain events, they have this personalities that are not effected by events...Many people trying to avoid unpleasent memories, espically children, lock these same events and memories that even at sometimes they don't remember it happening, although it is a known fact it had occured to them. Gee i ran on...Anyways good luck with your paper...bee bye
