  1. Salaams Thanks all for the encouraging responses. I wish it was only a simple teasing, but nop they are dead serios about it. My dear grandpa who used to lecture the daylight out of me-wont say a word to me bc I wont get married this summer. (He thinks he has a good suitor for me) By the time I'm 23 I think they will go crazy on me. For my b-day, yesterday my aunt called to remind me I was the oldest neice they have who hasn't got married yet. Whenever I say something about my neices or nephews-I'm being bombarded with comments-you could have your own, you know. My younger sisters plan on finishing school first-thank god- but ofcourse I'm being blamed for their decisions. ---- QQ--Why is it that most Somalia guys think a woman who decides to get married beyond 25 the abilty for them to have childeren diminishes. I'm sure u r aware Khadija RA was able to have 6 children after the age of 40.
  2. My whole family is obsessed about my age (any girl  over 18 is too old and should be married) and the fact that I’m not married yet drives them crazy. 2 of my younger cousins are getting married-this summer and my mom is on my case about how all my younger cousins and sisters got married before they were 20. (They don’t seem to understand I’m not them, and we have different priorities). Every time I go to a wedding I can’t talk to my aunts without being bothered with the comments “are you waiting to be 30” my answer nop am waiting until am 99  or “Don’t you think you are getting too old”. yeah so are you. I can't seem to enjoy a wedding without getting lectured. Am I the only one in this sad predicament? How do you deal with it – without disappointing your parents?
  3. ^^LOL@jail Sophist Congratulations and best wishes. May allah bless your meher with many healthy and blissful years.

  5. The best exercise there is gota be swimming. After living on steroids for 3 months-wasn’t fun. My Dr. suggested to take on swimming for my lungs and I will lose the weight. I lost weight, helps me with my asthma and it’s not tedious. Sound like infomercial dont I. To see my b4 and after pic Click here Seriously though Swimming uses almost all the major muscle groups, and places a vigorous demand on your heart and lungs, also develops muscle strength and endurance, and improves posture and flexibility. Not to mention Relieves stress so well. Yall should try out swimming sometime. Ok am done - I must love swimming to much.
  6. I wouldn't call it regrets, But expriences that we learn from...So in essense our experiences made us who we are today. It would just be stuuupid to repeat the same mistakes over again.
  7. Hadith - Sahih Muslim, narrated 'A'isha By Allah, the hand of the Messenger of Allah never touched the hand of a woman. "By Allah, the Messenger of Allah never took any vow from women except that which Allah had ordered him to take, and his palm never touched the palm of a woman. When he had taken their vow, he would tell that he had taken the oath from them orally." It was narrated on Malik bin Yassir that Rasool Allah said that it is better for a Believer to be struck in the head with a hot iron rod than to touch a woman who is not lawful for him.[Tabarani & Baihaqqi] If shaking hands is haram--then the cheek to cheek must be haram too.
  8. Learning Arabic abroad is sponsoring a trip to UAE and Egypt--I'm more inclined to go to Egypt.
  9. ^^they are mostly interested in the marriage issue mostly for tax purposes. At least thats what I heard of. On the issue..it's their life..and wether it's legalized or not there isn't much people can do to stop them from being homosexauls.
  10. All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over black nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action. Prophet Mohamed (pbuh) With that – do you people realize how you are making the Somali people far superior than the black people? How dim to judge some one by their looks or skin tone. Besides who someone chooses to be with is their choice – I guess since that is not against Islam – we are making it against somalinimo. Never seize to amaze me, how racist many Somalis can be, funny thing is mostly towards black people. I wonder why?
  11. Asalamu alaikum ww I’m so keen to study abroad, but very worried if I will be able to cope to the conditions I will be in, especially not being able to communicate with most of the people there. I’m curios – did any of you study abroad? Was it worth it? Were you able to get credits towards your degree? Pls share any tips you find valuable for studying abroad. Thx Wa Salaams
  12. Walaal – you say no for a reason, its probably because of your standards you said no, unlike so many girls around here. So don’t fret. Thers’ nothing wrong wit ya. And @ 21 you have along way to go before you can say am old. In due time I’A you will meet the person Allah has intended for yah. Good luck.
  13. Sparked interest sister - More info Plz.
  14. Salaams Bambina - Finding swimming my only form getting rid of stress, my hair has to pay the price for it. Anyways Wudu really doesn't harm the hair much, it would only benefit you. I use oil called DOO GROO V Enriched. It keeps my hair from getting dry at all. My sister also uses henna and egg mixed together on her hair, work for her - if you can stand the smell of egg in your hair for 30 mins, try it, works wonders for my sis. ( she puts on twice a month)
  15. Salaams Nur jazakallah khair for this topic on salah. "Out of all the ways through which My servant gets closer to Me, Salah is the dearest to Me." (Bukhari) Whenever I start praying this hadith comes to mind on how imporatnt salah, and each prayer I perform is step forward getting closer to allah. Nothing worries me more than not completing the correct process for salah. Here is my problem I worry so much, that there are times I start my prayers over and over again becuase I might have pronounced something wrong or or wasnt attentive enough. Any ideas on how to reduce this level of waswaas. Any ideas on how to stay attentive in prayers. Thanks in advance

  18. Oh come on sistas - it aint all that bad being out of school. Problem with us humans, now I'm so desperate to finish school-blazing through 18 credits each semester. But after i'm done I will be wishing I would be back in school. Well girls enjoy this bit of freedom, cause later on you would be wishing for it.

  20. ^^lol Isn't so funny, I've been in those situations before. The only way Somalis would beleive I'm Somali is if I speak somali to them...Few weeks ago I was shopping in pre-dominantly arab community - I saw a somali family - said salams in Somali - they looked at me as if I was crazy and said- wow you speak somali, How did you learn... They still wouldn't beleive I was Somali. It's bit infuriating - but nothing much I can do about it.
  21. Such a shame that the tone of skin color is so much of an issue to Somalis. I don’t know whether to feel sorry or aghasted at those who bleach their skin. One of my friends started bleaching her skin, just on the look out warned her of the effects of it – I was accused of being selfish b/c I was light skinned and didn’t want her to be light skinned. It’s so sad, I wish they would just understand how disfigured they become once they bleach their skin.
  22. King-The reason they hired me isn't because am somali or they are in need of interpreters but the reason I took the job was because I would be help to the Somali people in the community. How they go about screwing the system ain't my biz, but some of them stoop way down to get something not worth much. same ppl you are complaining about are the ones who are putting your food on the table. Care to explain on this? MJ-I haven't mentioned a name so, I haven't personalized what I said on anyone, and I just used that as an example.
  23. Salaams I would like to join - Inshallah this will work better for me.
  24. WOOOOOOW its a bit scary
  25. King- Thanks for the info., but none the less I was just referring to what I had experienced from work. Other people are doing it doesn’t give us the right to do it. Mujahid- I wasn’t criticizing Somalis, after all am Somali and proud of it. I know some of us need help, but lying – breaking the law- to get something that is not even worth the trouble-perhaps can get you in a lot of trouble. There are other ways to make money….what's nonsensical though is lying for couple of hundred dollars.
