Finally, Ukrain government admitted!!! October 2, 2008, 12:25 The Ukrainian Prime Minister, Yulia Timoshenko, says her government has information that Ukraine is involved in the illegal arms trade. The statement came after conflicting reports about the final destination of ‘Faina’, the cargo ship that was transporting Ukrainian T-72 tanks to either Kenya or Sudan when it was captured by pirates. "We pass all the information we have to a special investigative commission which was established in the Rada [ukrainian parliament] in order to probe the illegal arms trade, in which Ukraine is unfortunately involved today," Timoshenko said. Timoshenko said that such things as the arms trade should be under governmental control. "The government today is trying to combat the grey economy and, in order to stop the illegal arms trade, the issue should be transferred from the president's control to the government’s. Then we will be able to put this issue in order," she added. But Timoshenko expressed concern whether or not the Ukrainian President, Viktor Yushchenko, and the National Security and Defence Council will allow the government's watchdogs to check the legality of the arms trade. "All arms trading is under direct control of the president and the National Security and Defence Council. The government, in fact, stands off this activity," she explained. Yulia Timoshenko was talking at a media-conference in Ukraine’s capital, Kiev. The event was scheduled for live coverage on Ukrainian TV. However, it so happened that the country’s channels were closed for maintenance at that moment. Ukraine’s arms laundry list The Russian newspaper Izvestia has published a list of Ukrainian arms supplied to Georgia over the last 10 years. The newspaper says the list was compiled by the Ukrainian Parliament’s investigative commission. Source

As far as I can tell, there is good relationship between Djibouti & Somaliland at the moment, few years back xiriirkoodu wuu xumaa, that was when Djibouti tried to invite Somaliland to shirarkii Jabuuti lagu qaban jirey ee Soomaaliya. Another word, Geele is saying to Somaliland, no more inviation to the Djbouti conference since the outcome will be always the same, NOTHING, Madaxweyne Geelle mar allaala markuu damco inuu casuumo Somaliland, waa barigii hore, waxay ugu jawaabi jireen oo adba Somaliweyn ayaad ka tirsanaan jirtee wana kaa dowlad baad tahayee qeelada naga la tag oo ammaan aan kaa helno waxaban hana ictiraafin hadaad doontee. ^^ And there is no mention of Ethiopian withrawal in that chronological order! The whole so called meeting in Nairobi is about re-inforcing the Ethiopian presence in Somalia, and a way to get IGAD to finance the Ethiopian soldiers. And, as you may know, Ethiopia is the BIG player in IGAD countries. It won't make any difference if all the stoogies go to Nairobi, since their brethren are butchering Somalis in Muqdisho. Referring to "Jinni ninkii keenaa baxsha", I think that could be trasnlated now to a new one "Jinniyadu markey is dul dul fuulaan, ibleez baa loogu yeeraa si uu u kala hago". Marka uma arko in Kenya oo kaliya ama Igad oo kaliya iney fuquburaalaha Soomaaliya ku habsadey iney ka bixin karto. Ibleezka weyn ee Mareekanka aan naf ka sugno, maadaama uu asaga ku amar taakleeyo dunida, dhisi karo dowlad, baabi'in karo qaran.

Somali vigilantes demand $35 million ransom for weapons ship
nuune replied to Sir-Qalbi-Adeyg's topic in Politics
Breaking news: Three shot dead in row between Somali piratesArgument between rival factions over what to do with Ukrainian ship's crew and cargo of tanks descends into deadly shootout Three Somali pirates have been shot dead during an argument over what to do with a hijacked Ukrainian ship and its cargo of 33 tanks, a maritime group said today. Rival factions among a group of roughly 50 pirates argued over whether to free the cargo and 20-man crew, said Andrew Mwangura, of the East African Seafarers' Assistance Programme. In the most high-profile incident in a wave of hijackings off Somalia this year, the pirates seized the MV Faina six days ago and demanded $20m (£12m) in ransom. US warships have surrounded the boat, whose capture sparked controversy over the destination of its cargo and threw a spotlight on the prolific piracy in one of the world's busiest shipping areas. "The radicals on board do not want to listen to anyone," Mwangura, whose Kenya-based group is monitoring the saga via relatives of the crew and the pirates, told Reuters. "The moderates want to back-pedal. The Americans are close, so everyone is tense. There was a shootout and three of the pirates were shot dead." Xan Rice on the ship's capture Link to this audio The US navy has said the ship, which was heading for Kenya's Mombasa port, was carrying T-72 tanks, grenade launchers and ammunition bound for south Sudan via Kenya. Such a shipment could violate the terms of a north-south peace pact in Sudan unless specifically authorised by both sides in the truce. Kenya insists the armoury was for its military. Nathan Christensen, a spokesman for the US navy's fifth fleet, said: "We are not going to let [the pirates] offload the cargo." Having set off from Ukraine, the Faina was destined for Mombasa when it was hijacked by gunmen in three speedboats. Its 21-man crew included 17 Ukrainians, three Russians and a Latvian. One of the Russians, who suffered from high blood pressure, is reported to have since died. One diplomat, speaking on condition of anonymity, said it was an "open secret" that weaponry arriving in Kenya from Ukraine had been forwarded to the autonomous southern Sudan. If the claim was proved true, it would be deeply embarrassing for the southern Sudanese government. Southern Sudan, which denies purchasing the tanks, emerged from a 20-year civil war against the northern-dominated Khartoum regime in 2005. Western donors pouring hundreds of millions of pounds into developing southern Sudan would be furious if the government there was found to be using its oil revenue to buy arms. Read More
