  1. Something random which has nothing to do with the article; I had contact with this firm (Soheil Mosun) a while back when they created an award for us. They're good. That's all
  2. That scene is Snatch is hillarious!! Crazy British humour... If I had to pick just one scene it would be this one From "Being John Malkovich"
  3. Can't stop hitting replay! A short but sweet song..
  4. Good thing they hired her back! If anyone needs to be fired (if they haven't been already) it's this guy. what a total freaking psycho.
  5. ^Buxa, #3 is not bad. I keep using his anecdotes in random conversations...I have to stop that though because it apparently annoys people! I just started this book. It was recommended by a borderline genius from work so I'm thinking it's probably good..
  6. Jared Lee Loughner http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/40980334/ns/us_news-crime_and_courts/ As tragic as the incident was, I breathed a HUGE sigh of relief when I saw the shooter. If a muslim did this, no doubt people in the US would've been more up in arms. And all the muslims of the world would've been guilty by association and we would've had to defend ourselves and "condemn" what he did. Fortunately because he's white, notice how the media's is just focusing on this whackjob without trying to hold all young caucasian males accountable? Eish, the world we live in

That would be the perfect way to approach it...it's doesn't imply anything negative and it makes it about you and not the teacher. btw a little girl in a hijab jumped into one of my photos at an event and the mother walked over to me and kindly asked me to delete it!! One possibility is that the teacher isn't sure how open you are to having your child's picture and name in the newsletter...
  8. ^^ somali R&B-like music, that's cool Most somali songs sound the same to me with the same beats and background music but this was different...

    IKEA

IKEA ruins relationships. last year I spent hours assembling a sofa bed with my friend only to find out we did it wrong. I left in a hurry before she asked me to take it apart.. hehe, our friendship was never the same
  10. Marvin Gaye - Mercy, Mercy Me. What a voice!
  11. The instant he sat next to her, Amina sensed there was something extraordinary about Hanad.
  12. I was downtown on Dec 25 (going to see the Tim Burton exhibit) and I was shocked to see so many muslims at Tim Hortons (in practically every seat!)...then I remembered RIS was happening just down the street It was amazing! I wish I went but maybe next year inshallah.
  13. A man walks into a bar. Ouch.

There are so many unspoken heroes in somalia doing amazing things w/o getting or wanting recognition.
  15. Lychee, check out this thread http://www.somaliaonline.com/community/showthread.php/854-Question-for-the-ladies - same question but from the guy's perspective. You guys have a lot in common *hint hint*
  16. Question - what happens if I click the 'facebook connect' button?
  17. I'm on LinkedIn...I joined out of curiousity and I'm glad I did b/c when I was job hunting last year, there was a big increase in my profile views (and I could see that people from the places I applied to were looking at my page). My profile is private now, but I still use the site to look at different groups and network...

    Music

Good luck Aaliyah! you made the most important first step by setting your goal to stop/decrease listening to music. I'm not an expert on 'how to quit listening to music' but something tells me if you ditch your music player it should be downhill from there, no?
  19. Great trailer! Have you been to RIS before? so many friends are coming in from out of town... I've never been - I feel like I'll stick out b/c I don't wear a hijab p.s. "all of Islam revolves around two things: sincerity to your Creator and mercy to His creation." that's brilliant.

  21. I feel your pain. It's so tough to get around some secretaries...here are some advice I learned/picked up: - listen carefully at the beginning and use their names when you speak to them.. "Janet, thank you for speaking with me, bla bla bla" - BE NICE! this one's kind of obvious but the second you lose your cool or patience you can forget about speaking with the boss - Be persistent.. There was a lady at the UNICEF office who remembered my voice when I was trying to get to the Finance director..I eventually got to speak to the person but I think I called over a dozen times - Be clear on why you're calling - their job is to weed out unnecessary call volumes and if they feel that your call is valuable they'll put you through. - Don't underestimate how helpful THEY can be. Even though they're not the head, they're still a wealth of information. Plus they'll appreciate people asking them for advice. This one is a little underhanded, but it worked for me: - If you know the CFO was at a function recently, tell the secretary that you met and spoke to their boss at the event and that they asked you to get back to them with more information on something. Make it sound urgent and time sensitive That's all I can think of now..wishing you luck. Keep at it, you'll get through one of these days!
  22. That's garbage, we should learn to spread out. One problem with us somali people - we like to stick together in one place don't we? and whatever neighbourhood we are in huge numbers tends to turn into a ghetto..coincidence? I don't like to think that way but it's true based on what I've seen!
  23. If this kid is as bad as they say, won't he make bigger problems in somalia?? What if he becomes a warlord?
