  1. I wouldn't be happy either if every move I made was plastered all over tv and magazines. hm, I wonder if the media (and the people always itching to get the latest dirt on the girl) will feel guilty if she commits suicide??

  3. it's the lebanese flag. maybe the hotel belongs to a lebanese company? there are a lot of non-canadian flags flying around out here too
  4. also just wanted to add that it's *great* that a Somali is taking this kind of interest in uncovering somalia's treasures.. How much of the history of somalia is actually written by Somalis anyway?
  5. African Americans used to do that too back in the day, I just saw this on msn today. I'm definitely not trying to undermine the woman's awesome achievements =) but this article is taking it to extremes. "she is the first British-based researcher to work in Somaliland for 28 years..." maybe that is true..though I suspect it isn't. "...and the only somali archaeologist anywhere in the world" now this sounds a little too exaggerated, IMO.
  6. ^^ that's something I'd like to see! not sure if the people are ready for it though. on a random, my workplace closed today because of the storm in T.O. sweet!
  7. I would love to have photographic memory. damn, the things I could do... Do you sometimes think that life is just a cruel joke?
  8. "Rarely is the question asked, is our children learning?" "You teach a child to read, and he or her will be able to pass a literacy test. "Childrens do learn.”

I bought it Aug/06 and sold it just over 6 months ago before leaving TW. I'm happy it wasn't stolen, that might've put me off biking forever.
  10. maybe you have an intense need to be understood do you have an intense need to be understood?
  11. thanks for this article, it's good to get some proper perspective. when I remember how hard life is for so many other people I can't help but feel guilty for not being happy enough with my life
  12. I wanted to copy/paste the lyrics, but it wouldn't do this song justice =) I've loved this song for so long - and to this day I listen to it like it was the first time..
  13. as a person who constantly makes the worst possible first impression, I know how tough they are to overcome luckily though it's not impossible to change people's minds by the second/third/twentieth impression.
  14. fear of failure... Have you ever been propositioned by a prostitute?
  15. no, there are too many things that could go wrong  Do you sometimes laugh out loud for no reason?

It could be a case of self defense considering the level of violence/attacks against shop owners! the article said that the boy was shot in the back, so... Originally posted by Khalaf: quote: so maybe east africans are hated b/c they're better business ppl? cutting down prices and unleveling the playing field doesn't make one better business people. actually I don't know the first thing about business, alls I trying to say is that they're getting the business so in my own twisted logic, that makes them better business people. whether they're righteous or not p.s. ever heard of walmart?
  17. Kelly, whose 1,600-meter time of 5 minutes 17.49 seconds and 3,200-meter time of 12:00.81 are the fastest of any D.C. girl, was hoping to run fast enough at the Montgomery Invitational to qualify for the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in New York on February 8-9. Bowden said the team has no other meets scheduled that would allow her to qualify for the event, which attracts dozens of college recruiters she sounds really good! hopefully with this publicity she'll attract some big name american colleges

  19. I lived in Johannesburg for a short while and I couldn't believe how wide-spread the xenophopia was. it was weird. I know I'm generalizing but from what I saw, it seemed like the black south africans were the most racist bunch (or maybe it was just that they didn't hide it). they hated the whites, the indians and even black people from other countires (zimbabwe and nigeria topping the list! and somalia was definitely near the top:p) I worked with a Zulu woman (who admitted to me that she can't stand Indian people once  ) and she said the main reason somalis are hated is because they open shops and they slaughter the local competition by underpricing goods and working longer hours. so maybe east africans are hated b/c they're better business ppl?

Why is it a lot of western converts come from messed up (and sometimes criminal) backrgrounds?? Originally posted by Ms DD: Unwanted celebrity The ugly fact is that many scholars, especially white converts, cannot avoid the probing lights of celebrity. . In a world where Muslims are increasingly demonized, does a white man’s conversion provide a form of validation for the followers? . “We have the habit in the West to transfer our constructs so if we like David Beckham, we replace David Beckham with so-and-so imam. Is there a subliminal factor in dealing with the white person, looking up to white people? I think so! I’ve seen our community react to an African-American becoming Muslim and saying, so what? But a white dude with blond hair who looks like Owen Wilson and everybody goes crazy. yeah? what the heck is that about  a white person converts and they're put up on a pedestal and they get groupies! give me a break.
  21. If I was really serious about an issue, I would use proper picket signs and not black & white 8 1/2 x 11 paper

  23. looool this thing is crazy, I scared the heck out of my cousin! love it =) it took me a good 10 mins to figure it out though. I'm going got freak my mom out next, she scares easy!
