It was a bad day in the office, terrible terrible line up from RDM Aghghh!!! I must say, Steve Clarke is fast becoming a manager of the season candidate. I didn't think he'd make the transition from coach/righthand man to a manager but he's doing a tremendous job.

My exact thoughts. Torres has moments where he seems too comfortable for Me. Seems like he could do with a kick up the azz so he knows he has to work for the full 45 minutes each half and not just the first 30 minutes. I could understand him not blaming himself for last season. The team was built around Drogba and not suited for him at all. But now he needs to take some of the criticism and try and prove people wrong. He still looks like he doesn't blame himself for not scoring and it's other people's fault.

^^^^^ ya back?? Am off to UG in a week or so (you know what happen in Kamapala this week right) LOZ, Arsenal still Lol?? I look at your squad and it's clear that you need to change your formation. You've got 3 players who all want to play up front, you don't have a single natural winger in your ranks, a ton of technical central players and when on top of their game, 3 very good centre-backs. Considering you use your full-backs a lot in attacks, I don't see why not just change the formation to a 5-3-2/3-5-2. It still allows you to flood the midfield, it still allows the full-backs to charge forward and it allows to play 2 up top. I'd rather see AW play strikers up front then out wide. Let wide players play out wide. You've had 3 seasons with the 4-3-3 and have done nothing.you also tried to emulate Barca and failed. West brom vs Chelsea: Lukaku isn't allowed to play is he? I don't want Torres to start this next game. He's too comfortable. He knows that however badly he plays (which he has been) he will start. RDM needs to man up and start Sturridge, give him a chance and show Torres that he is droppable.Think this will be a close one but Chelsea to edge it.

Norf, Brendan rodgers admitted that he made a mistake with his formation and tatics which he changed midway through the 2nd half and in doing so changed the outcome of the game , I thought Carragher rolled back the years with a tremendous performance, Glen Johnson what a terrific player he is.... Gerrard also had a good game.

Shouldn't Webb be trying to help Liverpool as points lost for Chelsea would be beneficial to United?. Unless we bolster our striking options it will be a two horse race btw the Manchester clubs When did Torres last score a league goal? You have 2 strikers and both seem unhappy at the club. No chance of a serious challenge if that isn't addressed. Ps:It was sort of interesting how nobody celebrated with the Tooth Fairy when he scored.

We should have killed the game off before half time. We were punished for not doing so. I was actually waiting for Liverpool to score. Could see it happening, and we ended up being lucky Liverpool didn't nick it at the end with the Suarez one-on-one or Enrique effort. Oscar and Mata had great chances to make it 2-0, and twice Torres was unlucky not to score - I can't believe how often that little bit of luck goes against Torres! Saying that, I also think Torres didn't show enough effort towards the ends of both halves. He started brightly but then stopped closing anyone down, and when playing against a possession team I think this is really important. It forces them to go long, so I was really disappointed with Torres here. Just compare ourselves to United and City this weekend. They needed to pull something out the bag and they had the players to bring on to do it. Hernandez and Dzeko. The sign of a serious title challenger is when you can win even when you haven't played particularly well. Sad to admit it, but seemed a draw was a fair result in the end. I do think we edged the game overall though.

Chelsea showed in their 3-2 Champions League success over Shakhtar Donetsk that they can attain success without pragmatism, says our man on the scene Tom Adams. When Chelsea practiced robust pragmatism under Jose Mourinho – a strategy that restored the club to the top of English football for the first time in 50 years – it made them feared, but not admired. It was in the best traditions of this reductive approach that last season Chelsea finally became champions of Europe for the first time, Barcelona and Bayern Munich falling victim to their suffocating approach. However, Roman Abramovich was not satisfied. Chelsea’s mute owner may carry the reputation of a steely oligarch, yet we know he is an aesthete too. This is a man who two years ago spent £250 million on a decrepit St Petersburg island - previously functioning as a military base - with the intention of showcasing his burgeoning collection of modern art in galleries conceived at the cutting edge of design. When he looked at the squad Chelsea possessed last season, Abramovich apparently saw a similar need for reinvention, for art to overcome function and for old structures to be stripped away to provide creative space. Because for all their success since the Russian purchased the club in 2003, Chelsea have never been appreciated on an aesthetic level. Even after winning the Champions League, the great Johan Cruyff – football’s self-appointed ideologue for all things artistic – described their penalty shoot-out win over Bayern Munich as “a defeat for proper football. I'd rather not win it, then to have to play this way.” However, perhaps the most vivid critique of Chelsea’s conception of the game came not from Cruyff last season, but from Real Madrid’s then sporting director Jorge Valdano – a man known as El Filósofo (The Philosopher) - during the Mourinho era. Reflecting on Liverpool’s turgid victory over Mourinho’s Chelsea at the semi-final stage of the 2006-07 Champions League, Valdano’s analysis is worth revisiting in full: "Football is made up of subjective feeling, of suggestion and, in that, Anfield is unbeatable,” he wrote for Marca. “Put a s**t hanging from a stick in the middle of this passionate, crazy stadium and there are people who will tell you it's a work of art. It's not: it's a s**t hanging from a stick. “Chelsea and Liverpool are the clearest, most exaggerated example of the way football is going: very intense, very collective, very tactical, very physical, and very direct. But, a short pass? Noooo. A feint? Noooo. A change of pace? Noooo. A one-two? A nutmeg? A backheel? Don't be ridiculous. None of that. “The extreme control and seriousness with which both teams played the semi-final neutralised any creative licence, any moments of exquisite skill." And yet, watching a thrilling 3-2 win over Shakhtar Donetsk at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, it was tempting to conclude that Valdano’s criticism has finally, decisively, been answered. A short pass? John Obi Mikel has made a career or them. A feint? A change of pace? Meet Eden Hazard. A one-two? A nutmeg? A backheel? Well, for the final 10 minutes of the first half, Juan Mata was playing with a dizzying mix of extreme technique and unbridled imagination that made almost anything seem possible. Notably, Valdano didn’t even dare to posit the possibility of a goal as sumptuous as Oscar’s, an extravagant stroke of his right foot from 40 yards providing the standout moment from a game bristling with entertainment. S**t on a stick? Not quite. This was a monument to fluid, attacking football. And it was not just Chelsea, far from it. Shakhtar, despite losing their first competitive game in nearly a year due to an injury time header from Victor Moses, were even superior to the hosts for long spells. Their three of Willian, Henrik Mkhitaryan and Alex Teixeira looked a sliver more accomplished than the Chelsea triumvirate of Mata, Oscar and Hazard; Fernandinho – a wiry Brazilian in a No. 7 shirt – performed with even more poise and penetration than his carbon copy in a Chelsea shirt, Ramires. This match was not an isolated case. In September, Chelsea were involved in another hugely entertaining contest when drawing 2-2 at home to Juventus, with Oscar scoring another goal that demanded the attention of a continent. Indeed, their 18 games in all competitions this season have contained 73 goals – a Keegan-esque 4.05 per game on average. Chelsea are now England’s great entertainers, possibly one of Europe’s too. There is little doubt this shift towards attacking football has come at a cost to defensive solidity - the pendulum’s swing from application to art has seen Chelsea stray firmly into vulnerable territory. The way Fernandinho sauntered through the home defence, past a slipping Ryan Bertrand, to create Willian’s first goal was an extreme example of the generally welcoming approach that Chelsea took to defending last night. Time again they were troubled, Ramires and Mikel insufficient cover when the Hazard-Oscar-Mata axis was disrupted and Shakhtar broke. Without a Makelele or Essien they are more exposed to the whims of opponents. In truth, Chelsea should have lost to Shakhtar last night. The character they displayed in winning the game so late was hugely admirable, yet they were outplayed for the majority of the contest. They were only level heading into the final seconds of injury time thanks to two horrific errors from Shakhtar goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov - an infuriating anomaly in this otherwise extravagantly-talented team from Ukraine’s industrial heartland of Donetsk. But it is also pertinent to note that there is clear room for improvement at Chelsea too, and it is here that we come once again to the curious case of Fernando Torres. Though a reminder of his class was provided prior to kick-off when he received the Euro 2012 Golden Boot award from Kerry Dixon to the cheers of an admirably patient and supportive home support, this was another match which appeared to pass Torres by, his evident qualities again failing to coalesce. A stumble here, a misplaced pass there: this was instead a mishmash of a performance. Though Torres enjoyed an encouraging opening 15 minutes and even scored when Pyatov’s attempted clearance struck his outstretched leg, this period of promise soon gave way to familiar mediocrity. Torres still fails to convince as the apex of the Chelsea attack and given that Mata, Oscar and Hazard now lurk in the space behind him, that is borderline unforgivable for a player who has now spent almost two years at the club. Asking Torres to lead the line for this Chelsea team is like arming a Ninja with a baguette. Still, rumours of a January move for Falcao persist, and what a frightening prospect that would be. Securing the most effective centre-forward in world football would complete this dynamic, destructive and downright delightful Chelsea side, at least in an attacking sense. The vulnerability inherent in their new approach would persist, but this is an element which only enriches the entertainment that Roberto Di Matteo’s Chelsea provide. No longer the pragmatists they once were under Mourinho and his successors, Abramovich finally has an island of artists in West London to call his own. Chelsea vs Liverpool.. 4pm kickoff at the Bridge this Sunday. Our record against these boys isn't too clever in the premier league but with a loss and a draw in the past 2 premier league games we need to get back to winning ways. Hopefully Mata will be fit for this(?) but we've got a tricky European tie with Shakhtar mid-week to negotiate safely which isn't the best way to prepare! I'll pick a team/result after Shakhtar. PS:I hate it when we play against Licerpool, they always raise their game and make it hard for us! I'm gonna say Torres will get his first goal against Liverpool, 1 - 0.

Knew this wasn't a simple fixture! Can't complain with the result, Swansea deserved their late equalizer and point. I know Torres had a header cleared off the line, but he's goal drought is becoming a worry again. I think it starts to affect Torres' game when his not scoring. I just don't see why RDM doesn't tell him to shoot when he's one-on-one. He seems to always slow down in these situations, then try and cut in and it's so frustrating! The guy he cuts in and tries to pass to could score from the rebound if the keeper saves his shot anyway. He's good enough to at least hit the target so why not test the keeper? Well played Swansea. Hope Mata is back for Wednesday!

Shame the game was eventually decided by controversy in the end, was a great game up until the Torres red card. Summing up the controversial moments:- -Torres 1st half booking Honestly think a yellow card was fair. I wouldn't of been completely surprised if a red was given, but that comes down on the ref and the how the other player reacts - and fair play to Cleverley he got straight up. Again, I think a yellow was fair and the fact no one even mentioned it until Gary Neville did at the end of the game kind of suggests it wasn't that controversial. -Ivanovic Red No complaints. It's always going to be a booking when it breaks down an attack, but the fact Young is through on goal means it's got to be a red. I can see what Ivanovic was trying to do, but why try and get on that side when you've got to cross his legs? Young was definitely waiting for contact and I think we would of been better keeping the pressure on and letting him take on Cech. -Torres Red Never a second yellow for Me. The gif. people keep referring to, clearly is a bad view but you can still see Evans right foot go the whole way down Torres's shin. How is he not entitle to going down there? Someone said it's clearly a dive because of the delayed reaction. Torres is running and his right foot doesn't touch the ground after there's contact. How can you delay going down, when you're running and your right foot doesn't touch the ground after the contact? It's physically impossible. Thing that makes it worse is Evans could of easily gone which would of put us in a great position to go on and win. -Hernandez offside goal Was inevitable he'd score when he came on. While I don't think he's an amazing striker, I think he's really effective at finding space in the box when a team is pressing and looking for a goal. Was 100% offside and it's a shame that goal decided the game. In the end I would of taken a draw. To be 2 goals down to United so early is never good and we should great character to come back and look likely of getting a winner. Gutted we didn't get anything, but we're top and I would love to get revenge on Wednesday.

Massive game! After Tottenham (A) and Shakhtar Donetsk (A) this won't be the best time for us to be playing United. But we're in top form and if we could get a win here it would be great for our title push. But if there's any manager to expose our weaknesses and bring us back to reality, it's Fergie. While we have been looking great at times this season, there is still that weakness in defence we have and RVP and Rooney are a lot more dangerous than anything Tottenham or Arsenal have. I'm going to go with 2-2.

Well that's life innit

Norf: you've got so much negativity towards Chelsea lol, the defending champions league leaders will easily pass the group stage. : D Man U looks strong coming back from a two goal lead is incredible , its gonna be tough playing them this weekend. PS: I thought this match was a draw. Torres is going to be sold.
