My mum only allowed me to drink coffee when I turned 16 and I always looked forward to the day I could drink with all the other adults. But then I stopped drinking coffee a couple of months ago, I realised I was only pretending like it, because I was never allowed to drink it when I was younger. It's way too bitter. I prefer Hot Chocolate and marshmallows.

That's not even the worst thing. When you refuse to engage in their petty discussions, they think you're being arrogant.

I write for the Student Newspaper (not sure if that counts as a club). And I'm also the student representative for my course, but that usually only involves complaining about the queues in the library.

ehh, if it has been proven that certain people are predisposed to violently raping women, then they can claim whatever they want. But their nature doesn't drive them to do anything against their own will. It always comes down to choices, and the great thing about choices is, there are always at least two available to you. Like I already said: That doesn't matter I suppose, people are still free to make choices, whether to give in to their 'nature' or whether to accept as sinful and refrain from acting on their urges.

My impression from the whole situation (which I'm not even sure is very well informed) is that Africa is still reeling from the effects of colonial rule. It seems not to have just damaged their economy, but their collective mentality as well. It seems like the options most choose are those of extremes. There are those who see their continent as wonderful, refusing to acknowledge any serious deficiency and think they can sort it out on their own, and there are those who seem to think the country is hopeless, and therefore justifying their own corruption and theft of public money. I think one way to start cleaning up this mess, is trying to get rid of corruption. It is not just an action committed by a few, it's the entire conciousness of the people that need to be addressed. Africa at the moment, is a free-for-all type of place. Or should I saw, free-for-a-few. Certain governmental actions seem to concentrate on removing those few, but that doesn't help, when there are always people on lower ranks waiting for the time they get their 'share'. These people lack long-term memory or foresight. They've probably grown up in poor households and most likely never want to return there. There never used to be many millionaire Africans, but now they think it's their chance to be one, as though this reaffirms their African identity. Maybe our fellow Africans should stop thinking of wealth as a way of validating their purpose or identity. Maybe they need to restructure their collective conciousness in a more socialist way. Perhaps this will end the large-scale corruption and allow the funds of these fairly rich countries to filter through to the public areas that sorely need it, such as education, infrastructure and health services. I'm a bit tired, so I might not make much sense. But what do you guys think?

^^ First of all, I'm talking about being Somali, not being Gay, that's determined by genetics. Whether you like it or not, a gay Somali will always remain Somali. As to whether homosexuality has something to do with genetics, I don't know. Last thing I heard is that no one has conclusively proven it is determined by genetics or that it is not. Seems like jury is still out on that one. They say some people are predisposed to alcoholism, but that doesn't mean that you'll automatically become an alcoholic. It sounds a little under-produced, but with a catchy tune. Nothing interesting, but then again, there's nothing inspiring anymore about rap these days. I thought it might have some life again with Eminem. He at least could see beyond the money and b*tches, and actually had stories to tell, however disturbing they were. It's not that impossible. I have heard there are quite a few gay Somali guys in Amsterdam alone. It's not really an oxymoron though. You don't stop being Somali, it's genetics y'know. However, it is an oxymoron when you refer to a gay Muslim.

^^ The point is not to stop from eating chicken, but to stop you encouraging the cruelty these big mass-producing companies inflict upon the animals in their care. Doesn't our religion forbid cruelty to animals. Why else are you taught to slaughter an animal in the quickest way possible. I'm sure there was a hadith where the Prophet (peace be upon him) chided a man for sharpening his butcher knife in front of the animal, because this would cause the animal some distress (correct me if I'm wrong). If after watching the unislamic practices on the video, you're not at least a little bit moved, then there must be something wrong with you. Yes, God gave us animals to feed us, but he also gave us the responsibility to take care of those weaker than ourselves. I don't see the point of animals suffering more than they really have to. It won't cost KFC that much to train their staff to be more humane when handling animals. It doesn't cost a lot to make sure the environment these animals live in is at least tolerable. But most of them won't, until they get too much negative publicity. It's just how these corporations operate, humans, animals, they are nothing more than dollar signs. Besides, do you really want to eat chicken that's ill with so many infections? Personally, I like to eat chickens that were healthy before they were slaughtered. I am a little confused about Shi'ism and I was wondering if someone could help me understand it a little. Some of the information sources I have found were either Shi'ite sites merely chronicling their religious history or Sunni sites condemning them. I know that Shi'ites rever Ali, but I came across some site which say that his descendants were infallible and holy to a certain extent. Also that a certain Imam disappeared at some point in history and is set to return (I'm afraid the details elude me)? My question is, what sources do they base this on? And are they valid sources? If so, why don't Sunnis believe this? You can probably tell I'm not very informed about these things, I am still a student of our religion and I would appreciate it if you could help me here. So far I've believed that one should stick to the Holy Quran and the Sunnah and nothing else. But I'd like to know how other Muslims think. Thank you. PS. Are there many Somali Shi'ites?

Question: What do you mean believer? Is anyone who claims the name 'muslim', automatically a believer? Does that mean muslims can't fight an other muslim who is a tyrant? Was Saddam a believer? How about the Taliban guys who were running the show in Afghanistan? BTW, this might not have anything to do with the topic. I'm a bit confused about this, would appreciate it if someone could enlighten me. I'm not saying the US/UK/etc were right to go to war, but only because it was illegal and for immoral reasons and the war cost too many lives. However, I didn't like Saddam. So, are the Saudis really wrong to aid the US forces? (I know the Saudis aren't doing this out of kindness, for they commit the same crimes Saddam is always accused of, but let's say they were, aren't there grounds for muslims to dispose of other muslims if they are too .... evil?).

I always heard that, in the case of abuse a woman can seek a divorce. Especially if you're pregnant, because all this stress can't be good for the baby, and it will put both your healths at risk. Islam doesn't give men the right to abuse you, and if you fear for the life of yourself or your child, as far as I know you are allowed a divorc with the help of wadaads / judges. I hope that while the whole divorce process is pending, you have removed yourself from that stressful environment and possibly stay with your family for a while. I'm not sure what the surat / hadiths are, hopefully someone else can provide them to put your mind at ease. I hope you work it out safely, especially for the sake of your child and I hope that you will be able to form a stable enough relationship after the divorce, so that your child can enjoy both parents.
