Can't that be possible, I mean we know that many Somalis when they got to the Western world and started seekeing Assylum lied about everything... how can u say for sure that it doesn't apply to the Iraqis as well? You are right really, Iraqi refugees are no exemption. But from what I can gather of their personal accounts, he wasn't a very good leader to his people, especially those who wanted free speech or those who spoke out against corruption in civil bodies. And we also know about the Halabja attack which killed thousands of people (mostly civillian), even though I think there is some dispute over who was really to blame, US, Iraq or Iran. Also, when they had won the war in Iraq and later when Saddam was captured, Iraqi people were celebrating (mind you not all of them, but many people did, remember that press conference when they revealed they had captured Saddam?). I have noticed something, even amongst members of my own family, where they celebrate anyone who stands up against the US, despite their personal record. THis is how diversions work in the political game, I would have admired Saddam for some of the work he did for his people and for his defiance of the US, had it not been for his poor human rights record. ^^and what is that suppost to mean????? are you indicating that the jew did not deserve every ounce of what they got by the germans. you do realise that these are the same jews that bilittled and humiliated our phophit muxammad (SCW) these are the jews who continue to this very day to discrace our religon, kill our brother and sisters, disimate that ecomoies of the world and of the muslim countries... I'm sorry, I wasn't aware that jews had the special ability to live for hundreds of years, if they are indeed the same jews who have committed those transgressions against our Prophet (peace be upon him). Professer please, think for a second. You are saying every single last man, woman and child deserved to be gassed, shot, raped, buried alive etc. because of what their ancestors did? Sure there are a lot of Jewish people who don't like muslims or who support Israel's violations of human rights. But what about those Jews who are against Israel and support Palestine, those who respect muslims and Islam (trust me, they exist). For that matter, do you hold citizens of Mecca responsible for the humiliation of our Prophet (peace be upon him), since a lot of the pagan meccans of those days fiercly resisted the Prophet's message (peace be upon him)? Many people continue to kill innocent people, many people continue to defame our religion, it's not just the jews. There's nothing inherent to a race that will make them predisposed to violence and ruthlessness. All I'm saying is, please look closely at what you're saying. Does anyone ever deserve to be put through what those jews and gypsies were put through? Why else, have the Jews been accorded special favours along with the Christians by Allah (swt)?

Please tell me about this amazing revelatory intelligence that you have access to and we don't, please enlighten us brainwashed media puppets, oh bringer of truth! Good grief, your average monkey could figure out that the media exaggerates certain threats and that they certainly have a hostile agenda towards the middle-east (just look the media coverage of Palestinian conflict). You my friend, assume that people only watch TV and read news papers for their information, sure I know a lot of the crimes he is accused of have never been proven with hard evidence, but seriously, a good man??? the Guy is no hitler (though i like whath happend to the jews under his reighn) But then again, what's the point in arguing with someone who comes out with this sort of cr*p.
  3. I'm sure he has his fans, but I'm talking about the informed majority here (informed meaning, people who actually know a thing or two about his regime, not the people who support him simply because of his dislike of the US). I was just wondering who these pictures were for. For the people who still support him or for the people who defeated him? And also, if it is for the former, I wonder if The Sun thinks that his militant fans running around in Iraq are actually going to feel disheartened by these pictures. I would imagine, if anything, they would feel more inspired in their anger against America. So really, the only reason I can think of for publishing these pictures, is to showcase the 'great' accomplishments of the US/UK army. And apparently their victory can only be emphasised by human rights abuse..... Long live The Sun!
  4. You should do what I do. Braid your hair regularly and then completely forget about it, and before you know it, you'll be like "Oh my God, I can use my hair as a jacket!" It's like with water, it will never boil if you keep watching it.
  5. A slighty different topic here. Some Somali people always say "there are plenty of Somali guys who are educated and handsome or who are into the same thing you are, so therefore there's really no need to marry a non-Somali". I always imagine to myself, that I have to produce a certificate to prove that I couldn't find a Somali guy who likes gardening and works as an engineer, before I'm allowed to consider men from other cultures. To some Somali people I know, finding a partner is all about ticking the boxes. Want a husband who is educated? check A smart dresser? check Builds plane models? check... no need to get an 'outsider'. Sure it's not all about love, but I would say about 90% of the relationship should be. I personally don't really see skin colour when I think about my future husband, I see qualities that attract me, but it is this indefineable chemical reaction that will lead me to one guy and not to another (though he may possess the same qualities). ....aaah, I'm rambling
  6. I was wondering what your opinion was on racist jokes. What do you think are the limits? And are there any limits at all, if you happen to belong to the race which is the subject of the joke? My friends and I are a diverse bunch ethnically speaking, and we tend to make a lot politically incorrect jokes when we're alone. I think the idea is that we all know each other well enough to know none of us harbours any serious racist ideas. Mostly we just play around with existing stereotypes to make fun of each other and others. So is racism too serious a subject for humour?
  7. I guess that's the end of any Somali people in that town

    hobbies

For a while I collected vials of sand from different countries. I gave up on that when my mum started complaining about broken glass and sand being everywhere. I also like to collect freebies that come with magazines such as sandals, bags, books, sunglasses, cds etc. I will buy a magazine simply for the freebies. I also like to hunt for toys that come with cereal boxes.
  9. You're right, Happy Slapping is not funny at all. What would be funny however, is watching a video of the same moronic kids being abducted to an abandoned warehouse and watch them undergoing an operation to have their kidneys removed (without anaesthetic) to be sold on the black market. Imagine watching the initial shock on their faces once they find out they have no kidneys!! I should really talk to a TV executive about my ideas for a reality-tv show.

Anyway, back to the topic. What I'm wondering is, who are these pictures really for? First of all, I don't think many people idolise tyrants, except for other tyrants and people who have something to gain by their tyranny. So I think that defeats the purpose of The Sun, which after all claim that they intended to strip a tyrant of his power, and reveal the naked pathetic truth. Seriously, we don't need pictures to know that Saddam wasn't a great man, the vast majority of the international community looks at him with contempt anyway. So I can only conclude these pictures were printed not to shatter this (non-existant) image of Saddam as a powerful man, but revealed as a rather hollow justification for an illegal war. It is a typical victory image so beloved by jingoistic morons. A violent abuser of human rights has been publicly conquered by taking away his human rights. Irony, my friends, seems to be a making a frequent appearance ever since this war started.
  11. I always refer my non-Somali friends to this site, whenever I find a thread that's informative, interesting or funny. I know one of my British white friends have signed up to these forums because they were interesting, and as a Somali I'm not only his link to African people but also to Islam. So I think it's quite useful to have non-Somali members. Sure, most of them wouldn't be interested in a Somali forum, but if they did, it would be nice if they joined this one, considering it really is the best Somali forum out there. And as for the language, even I tend to drift off when people start speaking Somali, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying other threads.
  12. I have one friend who is a member here, and he's not even Somali. He reads the threads here from time to time, he quite likes this site. But I don't think he ever got around to posting though.
  13. I thought the answer was that she killed the sister and harvested her organs for money, so that she could hire a detective to track the man down, but then she would realise that in reality he was a low class scrounging scum and she would be overcome with guilt for disposing of her sister in such a manner, and so she decides to kill him also and sell his organs to buy a decent husband from Russia. Seriously
  14. I'm so incredibly sorry OG-girl, so sorry. I couldn't possibly imagine what you must be going through. I hope you feel comfort in the teachings of our Prophet (peace be upon him) and I sincerely hope that you are surrounded with the strenght and love from your loved ones. May Allah heal your grief and provide you with happiness in due time.
  15. The best feeling is when you eat that perfect sandwich, and after you finish it, you feel that all is right with the world.
  16. I really liked that. I truly hope you finish it one day. It sounds intriguing.

    Question

Originally posted by Haddad: quote:Originally posted by MsWord: Should qabiil matter when one is choosing/searching for a mate? Why or Why not? No. Because qabiil (the kind Somalis practice) is, first and foremost, a concept that clashes with Islam. I will not go into details with that clash, because we practice very little Islam. This kind of marriage will foster the feelings of superiority over others, create myths and taboos about others (outcasts being one of the results), increase hostilities, decrease harmonies- it's in short, a recipe for a hostile atmosphere. What's more, this kind of marriage is unfit for this era. For one thing, most Somalis are no longer nomads (living in urban centers, and leading an urban lifestyle). This kind of marriage might have made a little sense from a survival point of view when the environment was harsh and most Somalis were nomads. What should matter is, one's strong faith, positive morals, values, mores and good character. Couldn't have said it better. Giving in to your family thoughtlessly like that, means you are an accomplice in the degradation of the Somali identity and of Islamic practice. If no one speaks up, we will never have progress, but instead we'll have every generation surrendering their common sense to please the ignorance of a previous generation.
  18. Ehh, apparently men see me as playful, but what the test really says is that I have some serious issues. Men want a challenge and you are the perfect playmate So I'm the kind of girl men only want to play with. When the time comes to settle down, men will leave me for someone less challenging (and less demanding. You know how to push men's buttons and attract a wide range of guys So I am manipulative and calculating, and apparently not too picky with my guys. Great, I wonder if they also pay me? You enjoy living and loving - it's one of your most attractive qualities I have yet to meet a single person who doesn't conform to those above qualities. One can safely assume that the vast vast majority of people quite enjoy living and would hate to have anything to stop them from that enjoyment (i.e death). Men are often consumed with desire for you, and you love that! So I'm a tease and a whore. Great. I feel depressed now.
  19. What Famous Leader Are You? personality tests by similarminds.com Answered all 45 questions. Quite fitting I suppose, I always had a thing for interns and expensive lung cancer-causing cigars.
  20. 1 - 1 And the war of the sexes continues, ladies and gentlemen stay tuned for more...
  21. I love Somali people and their stubborn tendency towards chaos. I've made up my mind, when the time comes, that's the kind of wedding I want. This delightful scenario was the first thing to make me laugh in days.
  22. Sweet-gal I've been meaning to ask those same questions myself. I've only ever been to one wedding, and as soon as they introduced me to the couple, they made me stand in the corner all night so I could collect cups and plates. It was a black-tie affair (apparently), and there I was helping out in the kitchen (against my will, but I couldn't very well argue with all these older women), wearing an expensive evening gown. I've never felt less glamerous. But seriously, I always wanted to know what real Somali weddings are like (since I missed everything the only time I went to one). If SG doesn't mind, I'd like to add a few questions of my own: - What happens during the ceremony? Can everyone be a witness to this? Do the parents have to be actively involved in some way? - The type of dirac one wears, is it the everyday (but slightly fancier) style or is it something you can only wear to weddings (like the somali equivalent of a white bridal dress)? - When does the couple sign the marriage contract? Is this optional or part of the marriage process? - Is it normal for men and women to celebrate the wedding in the same place, or do they have to be in seperate rooms/buildings? - Are children normally invited? - Does the couple exchange rings/vows?
  23. I'm not familiar with that case so I can't comment on that. But (please correct me if I'm wrong) as muslims shouldn't we have to endure any type of illness we have and do everything in our power to stay alive? Isn't making the decision not to have the tube reinserted as unnatural as refusing to eat food, which is akin to suicide? I believe the government in most cases should honour the wish of the patient rather than the parents or the spouse. It is a horrible thing to live in such a state, but in this case, as muslims do we have a choice? I always thought we didn't, but I might be wrong.
  24. Now Gattaca was an excellent movie. Normally most against-the-odds films are too sentimental, but when they are done well they are great and truly inspiring.
