I made double entry.. tell me wat should I do with this one... how about a joke. A man married a woman. After the first few days he realized that she really smelled bad. So he thought long and hard about wat to do . At the end an idea hit him. He took his wife to Africa, and made alot of money. He now owns, " Shadiyo mosquito repellent" sprays.

Happy Birthday Gurlie... Enjoy ur day... although everyday should be a birthday ...since u get to wake up among the dead. As for the discovery thingy... its gaal and his work... I will just lay back n watch.. but its interesting though. Let me consult my book, " Astronomy for the dummies"
  3. Salaam All... I hope u r all well! Told u folks.. get out of London urtooy u refused... ha idinka saarto!
  4. I think it depends on ur husband. If he is supportive u can do it... my mom did it. She finished her high school when she had my older sister. Completed her BS when she had me. Did her masters when she had my younger brotha and all that time my father attended to us. So it depends really on ur husband. Hope dat helped...
  5. I just don't get it. If u guys don't like somali weddings don't attend them nooh. Common folks, if everything fall into place how can we enjoy being Somali? That means we have lost our identity. Its part of being Somali to stand around the hallways, lounges etc. Stare at gurls, fill up plates, have women shaking their behinds on other women... men lined up standing along the walls of the hall, u name it. I love it... I love it so much that I am going to another wedding this weekend. That is two in 3 weeks... MAN...I broke my record:D
  6. Why is everyone taking a piss at Somali weddings, common now? Its pretty your faults as much as it is the bride n grooms. Lets analyse this: The couple sent out invitation cards on which there is a label that says only two guests allowed, instead we bring three or four uninvitated guests claiming that they r visiting relatives or friends and u couldn't leave them at home. There is an specific dress code, only formal evening wears. But we show up with our diraccs, jeans, baseball caps... u know name it. It says explicitly that we should be there by 8 pm, instead we take our time and show up at 12. Acting like we r the guests of honor and without us how did the wedding shape up like dat. The dinner is served in buffet please act civil. we start cutting the lines, infact most of the time we beat the couple to the buffet table acting like that is the last email we r ever gonna have. Filling our plates beyond our stomach's capacity, making sure there is none left for anyone after we have had our share. The organizers are in place but the guests are not. Couple of people decide to walk down the aisle rite when the couple arrive adding a lil chaos to the already shaky business. The single men act like they r hungary not for food but the young gurls who have come to this event making sure they don't have a space to breath. And the gurls knowingly, keep walking up n down the collidor so that one of those dogs can bark at her. And when he does depending on the aggresiveness with which he did, she responds either with " waa edebdaran tahay or nabad aboowe". acting like she is hard to get when infact she has been hopping to get hitched right then n there. So if u look at her really, its the guests that create the chaos and not the couple. So start behaving better next time u r invited. Those who are about getting married, I would say start planning ur wedding a yr early so that everything falls into place and u r not over worked when ur wedding is near. That time is for u to enjoy ur days at the spa and get your last talk with ur shrink about your anxiety. For The record: I would never have a wedding. I love the Islamic way. The men have their lunch so do the women.. and me n my hubby are on a plane headding for honeymoon the evening.
  7. Discreet: Let let me ask u this How long has it been since u read anything about Africa? Coz seriously with you Are'nt politicians voted by the people for the people, thus they are not solely at fault, we all are collectivley. I assume u r one of those Somali make believers who believe that the people just elect the corrupt politicians. U r wrong my friend, yes we r corrupt and we lack the fiber to do anything good for ourselves, so why not face the music? He is rite. Those NGOs who have appealed to the UN to do something for Somalia have swollen their bank accounts with the fundings they were given to make a difference in the lives of the poor, tell me is there any African government that isn't corrupt? Are u implying that all the African people choose those political thugs coz they didn't know any better? U need to listen and watch more on Africa then u will know why we have to let the westerners keep the money in their banks and supervise in the building of infrastructure.. that is the only way the money they have raised is used for the cause. Or else it will end up in the deep pockets of the theives that run our continent just like those before them. Africa doesn't need money, africa needs infrastructure.

Athena, I guess u r one of those sisters with no nose dee Just kidding don't u dare hit me with ur lug, I know u kick like a damn dameer QacQaac: Balaayada baas hadii aad xerantahay 15 yrs daniba in aad qatar ku noqoto waa kugu kalifeysaa For The record I would never advice someone to do Laser eye surgery, I saw on 60 minutes what happens when the surgery goes bad. Believe me irreversible blindness or cross eyed... and there is 1% chance dat might happen. Its ur choice.
  9. Haddad: Simply someone's view point doesn't coincide with yours doesn't neccessitate for complete disagreements even when point made are quite revelant and sensible. Maybe you should loosen up. His believes are comepletely his but when he offers solutions, we ought to give it a thought.. and if we care about Somalia or Africa in general, having a first hand experience, I would say he made a gr8 point. Or r u involved with an NGO and thus the cut in funds if his views r considered??
  10. Seems like I am the only person who sold soemthing on Ebay. I have sold an antique vase... so far I am thinking about setting up a website for Somalis... wat do u think folks.. if i brought u Somali relics and clothes would u buy??

  12. Empowering people and not politicians is the answer to Africa's poverty Good intentions to dislodge poverty's tight grip on Africa are welcome and must be well appreciated by every conscientious African who cares to see an end to the continent's long night of hunger, disease and grinding poverty. In Africa we should salute all honest initiatives aimed at helping our neglected continent. We say Viva to Prime Minister Tony Blair's Commission for Africa, Chancellor Gordon Brown's relentless fight to bring as many countries as possible to the African aid's bandwagon, Bob Geldof's Live 8 and his army of world singers and musicians who enthralled the world in the name of mother Africa. We also take off our hats to the audience of millions who responded to the Live 8 call and poured out their pockets and their hearts to Crusade End of Poverty. We do this because in Africa it is the language of singing, music and drumbeat that we understand more than any language. When we are hungry we sing, when we are sick we sing, when death descends on us we sing, when life smiles for us we sing. We always sing, beat the drums and dance. Music and singing are the secret of our existence. This is how we cheated extinction and annihilation. Even when the prime youth of Africa, the manpower of our continent were taken in chains across the Atlantic, they took their drum beats and their music in their hearts, in their heads and in their feet. This is why when the world sings in our name today, we understand the honesty of it and we sing with them. In Africa, we also know that it is our singing and our music that soothes our blues, drives away our melancholy and sends our hungry children to sleep. But our music and our singing bring no money. Now when we see music played, drums beaten and lyrics sang in our name to bring us money, we worry. Because we know money is evil at least in Africa. You see when our hungry children hear our music, and our singing and our lullabies they remember it is sleeping time and they go to bed, but if they learn that music means money, they would stay awake and wait for food. Because they know money buys food. But in Africa, money is like a snake's droppings, everyone hears about it but no one ever sees it. We know it comes from the world to us as aid, as debt, as grants as charity, as food, as medicine. It comes from all over the world. But you know in Africa, our leaders taught us a long time ago that money is evil. They taught us it is the root cause of all wars, diseases and poverty. They said that if money came to our kraals and our abodes, singing would no more help our children and our wives to go to sleep. It will not be enough to give them food and fill their stomachs. No, they will not sleep till they touch the hard cold silver and gold money. And you see in Africa we know sleeping is the therapy of every disease. If someone doesn't sleep he becomes crazy and causes trouble. They even may start fire and burn the whole camp. Therefore, our leaders taught us that since money is very rare like a snake's droppings, the best place to keep it is in their pockets. They also told us once their pockets were full they would send the rest for safekeeping in far away Banks. This is why you see money is like a snake's droppings in our continent, we only hear about it but we never see it. But lately, just very lately, some of our young ones who went to schools and traveled to far away lands told us another story. They told us we have to have money to feed our children. They told us we need money to have schools, hospitals, roads and clean water. They told us that money was not evil and in fact it was not as rare as a snake's droppings after all. They told us to go to our leaders and ask them to build schools, hospitals and roads for us and provide us clean water. And when we told them our leaders became crazy and started beating us, killing us and driving us out of our farms and taking away our animals. This is why in Africa today you can see many wars, burnings and killings. This is why we are worried when we hear Tony Blair, George Bush, Bob Geldof and other good intentioned people talking about money coming to us. We don't want more wars, more killings, and more burnings. We want to thank all for your generosity. Please don't give us money. Keep it in your far away banks. We will tell you what we want. We want our children to have good education like your children, so we need schools. We want medicine to treat our sick like you do, so we need hospitals. We want to send our products to far away markets so that we can get books and pencils for our schools, medicine for our hospitals and tools for our farms, so we need good roads and harbors and airports. We need clean water and electricity. This is what we want Mr. Blair, Mr. Bush and Sir Geldof. Singing is our faculty, music is our soul, drumming is our tradition. This is what we know best. This is our language over the centuries. We sing to send our hungry children to sleep, you sing to make money. Money in Africa Sir is as rare as snake's droppings and evil. It should be kept away from good people like us and be held tight in the hands of our leaders. Please don't give us money, just give us the means so our children could sleep in peace with our lullabies, go to schools and get medicine. Sir, empower us, the people, and not our leaders. Thank you. Bashir Goth e-mail: bsogoth@yahoo.com

  17. I am the only dark skinned sister left in UAE and guess what? I walk around proud. I love my skin color... Like that black guy said, " When I was born I was black, when I am happy I am black, when I am sad I am black, when I am sick I am black and when I die I will be black".. What matters is the features, the face cut, the nose shape, the lips, the eyes" Color has nothing to do with it!
  18. Ali Baba: I think you have the Somali history all screwed up. The tribal system has always been part of Somalinimo. Being a Somali one had to belong to a tribe, and that was his or her identity and still is. The Independence brought freedom that we need to rejoice. Nonetheless, it also gave power to the wrong kind of a man. He was good for the country till up in late 70s and early 80s. That is when he started his bullshit of " Qabiil hala duugo" knowing that it will raise it up. What has us all screwed is the fact that we are trying to change what has been in existence since the beginning of time. Our Allah SWT says it in his Quran that He has made us into tribes so that we know each other. However like everything else it can be used as a weapon of discrimination, just like the Somalis are doing. And believe me we are no different than the rest of the countries in the world where there is racism. This great America u see had civil war, the only reason it didn't get supper destructive is because all those belonging to it the so called America were criminals and poor people England filtered off its grounds, and they knew each one stood for himself. Hence the carelessness. Anyways, I would rather you mark this blessful day as a blessing and not label it as being a dark day. Its not. The War in Somalia is a curse but 1st July has nothing to do with it. You should infact appreciate those heros who have suffered to achieve wat u now call home. Somerican: You are entitled to your own opinion but don't talk for everyone. like my sister here said, talk about how you feel not how others feel. FYI I am Somali and I don't watch CNN or Al Jazeera... I listen to Somali BBC. It tells me enough about the world as well as my country in my beautiful mother tongue, maybe you should try it too... kind of reminds u that u have identity or u like the label " Black American"? Rudy: You should be the first to think positive. Coz Salada sida ay u kala horeyso ayaa loo kala tukadaa. So start the optimism with you, then talk to others

I have all curls... when u have beautiful curls why would u want to strten them? If u want to str8ten without chemicals.. then use the hot iron to str8ten ur hair..its good... n no chemical is used!

  22. OG- Sweetie, relax. U r taking this on a personal level and its not dat. Your family members are ur family members and no matter wat Somalis say will change dat. So smile suga gurl Havard: Somalis do kiss behinds too walaalkiis its not only Arabs. I will give u an example, when I went to Somalia, I attended a conference held by all the NGOs and the UN organizations that deal with irrigations, and food. The chairman of the conferece was a Somali guy who was also the representative of Unicef in Somalia. Now they had rules, which said, if u want to talk plz hold ur hand up and u will be given ur chance. Kind of kindergander way of managing conversations.. anyways there was only one Italian ( white man) among us and two kenyans the rest were Somalis. Everyone including the kenyans held their hands up when they wanted to talk except the white man. He cut conversations, said all he wanted to say, and the Somali guy just let him, infact hushed the person who had the right to talk so that white man could talk. I was irritated. Although i kept quiet till the conference was over, I did however give a piece of my mind to the chairman at the end. Which proved to be constructive. Seriously its a disease, seems like we see the whiteman as a god or something. What goes on around the third world is insane. Arabs did not do us ( Somalis) any favors after the war. Saudi Arabia deported refugees and still is back to the war rotten country. UAE fired Somalis and told them to leave the country within 21 days given dat their was no home to go to. There are plenty of poor families in UAE and the government doesn't help at all. But does that mean UAE nationals are bad people? No they r not. Infact when you get to know them, they are good hearted. Ofcourse like every other nation they have bad n good people. Personally I won't give priority to Arabs if they ever came to my country but I don't hate them, because they r my brothers in Islam.
  23. Thought the topic was about wat city we would love to livein? To answer dat, i would say any city in Africa is fine with me. I love africa As for the Arabs They do have issues like the rest of the third world, but who can blame them. In this age its like u r either with the big shots or u r slained. The Arabs don't bother especially the Emiratis as long as u don't mingle with them. I have been living here on & off 10 yrs.. And I am yet to encounter any hatret from them. So I have nothing against them. But yes they do kiss a$$... who wouldn't??
