  3. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After Pavel Nedved scooped the prestigious Balon d’Or, French newspaper l’Equipe has also praised the Italian League. There are five Serie A stars in the annual Top Eleven team picked by the pundits of this esteemed publication. Newly crowned European Player of the Year Nedved is part of the midfield, while Juventus teammate Lilian Thuram is also included in an almost entirely Italian-based defence. In fact, three Azzurri heroes help make up the Team of the 2003 with Gianluigi Buffon and Champions’ League winners Paolo Maldini and Alessandro Nesta. L’Equipe’s writers note that Juventus goalkeeper Buffon “has all the indispensable qualities for a Number 1.” Nesta represents “the archetypal Italian defender,” while his Rossoneri teammate Maldini “remains the best example for a football player.” L’Equipe’s Team of 2003: Buffon; Thuram, Nesta, Maldini, Roberto Carlos; Makelele, Beckham, Zidane, Nedved; Ronaldo, Henry
  4. By Jonathan Kent BBC correspondent in Kuala Lumpur The Malaysian Prime Minister, Abdullah Badawi, has become the first leader of his Muslim majority country to send an official Christmas card. Some 1,500 leading members of Malaysia's large Christian community have received season's greetings from Mr Abdullah. The prime minister's card shows Malaysians of different races and religions holding hands and dancing. The card itself does not explicitly mention the Christmas holidays. But it does extend festive wishes for peace, happiness, love and national unity to Christian preachers and their congregations around the country. 'Discrimination' claim Abdullah Badawi, who became prime minister almost two months ago, is a respected Muslim scholar and has long made a point of promoting good relations among the country's various religious groups. Malaysia is predominantly Muslim, but remains under secular rule None of his four predecessors, who were all also Muslims, sent out official Christmas cards. Last week Mr Abdullah reacted angrily to a US Government report which listed Malaysia among countries which discriminate on grounds of faith. Ministers are considering lodging an official protest with Washington. Although Malaysians enjoy freedom of worship, some opposition leaders say that the state discriminates economically in favour of Muslims and that non-Muslims are excluded from the highest political offices. -------------------------------------------------------------------- I thought i would post this here as it has relevance for all of us, who work and study and are invited to join in the seasonal "Festivities" My Q. is, is the price of promoting multi-faith relations to high? I ask this as am reminded by many brothers around this time of year to not join in what is effectly a pagan festival that tells a warped story of Issa Alay salam.

  6. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Many people are thought to be buried under the rubble A powerful earthquake that hit south-east Iran has left at least 4,000 people dead, state TV reported. Tens of thousands of others were injured in the quake, which had its epicentre near the ancient city of Bam. Rescuers have rushed to the area, but phone lines to Bam have been cut, hampering relief efforts. Power and water supplies have been disrupted. Iran suffers frequent earthquakes, with small tremors happening almost daily - and 35,000 dying in one 1990 quake. The French news agency AFP reports that 500 people have already been buried in Bam, a city of about 80,000 people. I have lost all my family. My parents, my grandmother and two sisters are under the rubble Maryam, survivor Pictures of the earthquake Reporters in the city said there were scenes of intense grief, with people losing many relatives at a stroke. "I have lost all my family. My parents, my grandmother and two sisters are under the rubble," Maryam, 17, told Reuters. It is thought many people were crushed as they slept in their beds. "The timing was very bad - early morning, everybody at home," the Red Crescent's Mostafa Mohaghegh told the BBC. Iranian state television reported that 60% of the houses in Bam had been destroyed. "Authorities have demanded immediate blood donations to save the lives of those who have been admitted to hospital in the provincial capital of Kerman," the television report said. A legislator representing the affected area said he believed the death toll could be 10,000, but it is not clear how he arrived at that figure. The local governor, Mohammad Ali Karimi, told state radio many people were buried under the rubble. Crisis centre The BBC's Miranda Eeles in Tehran says a crisis centre has been set up in Kerman, some 200 kilometres (125 miles) from Bam. RECENT IRAN QUAKES February 1997: about 1,000 killed in north-western Iran May 1997: More than 1,500 killed in eastern Iran June 1990: 35,000 died in worst recorded disaster in Iran, affecting the Caspian regions of Gilan and Zanjan. About half a million people made homeless June 1981: More than 1,000 killed in quake that destroyed town of Golbaf Officials have pleaded with people to stay off the road between Bam and Kerman in order to speed the flow of rescue vehicles. Rescue teams are flying to the area by plane and helicopter. Russia is sending emergency response to assist, Russian media reported. The Red Crescent is setting up tents to house survivors. Mr Mohaghegh said the region, a semi-desert area, is cold at night and warm clothes and heating will be needed. Friday's quake had a magnitude of at least 6.3, according to Iranian sources. The US Geological Survey measured it at 6.7. The earthquake occurred at 0528 local time (0158 GMT), Iran's official news agency Irna quoted the Tehran University Geophysics Centre as saying. Two strong aftershocks followed the original quake. Heritage site The historic city of Bam, about 1,000 kilometres (620 miles) south-east of the capital Tehran, is reported to have suffered most. Jewel of Iranian heritage An important regional centre in the 16th and 17th centuries, the city contained many ancient buildings not built to withstand earthquakes. Its 2,000-year-old mud-brick citadel is reported to have been destroyed. Since 1991, tremors have claimed some 17,600 lives and injured 53,000 people, according to official figures. Reuters reports that there is little modern earthquake education in Iran. "Most people think that what God wills will happen. This is absolutely wrong . This thinking is poisonous," Tehran University professor Bahram Akasheh told the news agency. ------------------------------------------------------------------

The captain struck both goals to ensure that his side stay clear at the top of Serie A. There was an unfamiliar look to the Roma side because of their left-sided problems. Vincent Candela was unavailable, while Lima was left out of the starting line-up after his AWOL episode. That saw Dellas drafted into the defence and Chivu moved out to the flank. Roma were strong favourites to win going into the game and they instantly attacked. They had a penalty appeal rejected after four minutes before Cassano saw his shot saved by Bucci with just the former Parma ‘keeper to beat. Yet Empoli, who caused Milan problems two weeks ago, were not resigned to a defeat. Pelizzoli had to be alert on two occasions after efforts from Rocchi and a Di Natale volley that flew wide of the goal. Roma boss Fabio Capello decided to adjust his system. He moved Panucci to the left, allowing Chivu to slot into his more familiar back three role. Within minutes, the away side took the lead. Carew turned inside the penalty area where he was caught by Pratali just before he could get his shot away. The referee pointed to the spot much to the annoyance of the defender and Di Natale who were both booked. Francesco Totti powered his penalty to the right of Bucci. Empoli’s attempt to get back into the game was limited by Roma’s possession of the ball. On 38 minutes, Capellini went close when his 25-yard free-kick hit the side netting. That was a rare scare for the away side. Dellas almost doubled their lead on 40 minutes, before a piece of magic from Totti put his side 2-0 up in first half injury time. The captain received a pass from Cassano, he spotted Bucci off his line and from 17 metres chipped the ball into the back of the net. Simply extraordinary! There were no substitutions to digest with the half-time oranges. Roma were looking to control their lead and Empoli’s attempts to get back into the game were tame as Agostini and Cribari didn’t trouble Pelizzoli with their efforts. On 58 minutes Totti almost grabbed his hat-trick. Cassano and Mancini worked a short corner but the No 10’s header finished well over the bar. Mancini threatened himself soon after when his diagonal cross shot missed the target and the stretched foot of Cassano. Empoli’s only real chances were being created at set-pieces. A Capellini cross eventually found Di Natale whose shot just finished over. Substitute Foggia then struck a 20-yard free-kick which was off target. Totti was again handed a chance to get his third thanks to a poor Agostini back-pass. But his effort, which beat Bucci, ran across the mouth of the goal. The Roma idol then tried his luck with his left foot in the 81st minute but Bucci tipped it around the post. Roma’s win ensures that the Giallorossi end 2003 at the top of the League, even if Milan do have their rearranged game against Siena to play in January. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Empoli: Bucci; Balleri, Cribari, Pratali, Agostini; Grella, Fucini (Foggia 59); Buscè (Tavano 72), Cappellini, Di Natale; Rocchi. 10. Another Good Example of what these Kufhar are like Don't Bow to U.S. on Reform, Top Islamist Tells Gulf KUWAIT (Reuters) - A leading Kuwaiti Islamist parliamentarian on Saturday urged six Gulf Arab states with close ties to Washington not to enact educational reforms on U.S. orders as part of a drive to fight terror. Lawmaker Waleed al-Tabtabae called on Gulf governments not to bow to pressure from the West on education reform, an issue high on the agenda of a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit meeting in Kuwait on Sunday and Monday. "The amendment and development of the curricula should stem from the Gulfis' needs, not from external pressures," said Tabtabae in a statement. Tabtabae leads the four-member Salafi Islamist bloc in Kuwait's parliament, a powerful body controlled by conservative tribal leaders and Islamists. The latter hold 15 seats in the 50-member, recently elected house. After the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States, Washington pressured regional kingpin Saudi Arabia -- home to 15 of the September 11 suicide hijackers -- to change school curricula. Saudi reformists say the country has removed from textbooks intolerant or offensive chapters on Christians and Jews, which had depicted them as infidels and enemies of Islam. Tabtabae said it was U.S. Zionist and right-wing institutions who were pushing changes in school curricula in Islamic countries. They "want to capitalize on the post-September 11 atmosphere to impose unacceptable changes...that contradict with clear verses in the Holy Quran and the Sunna (sayings of the Prophet)," he said. They were doing this "in order to impose normalisation with the Zionist entity (Israel)," Tabtabae added. The December 21-22 annual GCC summit will discuss a Gulf agreement on fighting terror attacks, and GCC officials said concrete proposals on changing curricula will be presented to the summit for approval. The GCC, a political alliance, includes Saudi Arabia, which is fighting a surge in militant violence linked to Saudi-born Osama bin Laden (news - web sites)'s al Qaeda group. Other members are Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Oman.

  12. I am of the opnion that we need to go bak to the basics. Whilst we talk about re-establishing the Khalifah Rcaisim Nationlism And Ignorance is prevelant amongst us muslims, both in the west and wherevere why might hail from. In saudia, the Birth Place of Prophet Muhamad SAW, we find wide ineqaulities, we find a society that can hardly be compared to that of our Rasulluh, we find many un-islamic norms. In other countries a whole host of self-inflicted problems persist's, Somalia Tribilsims, Turkey Nationalism and the introduction n Mix of Kufur into Deen etc etc. The Khalifah can only be re-establsihed by the will of allah and the sincere actions of Muslims. We need to go back to out deen, and learn again what it means to be a Muslim. The 5 (6 to some) pillars are obvious enough requiremnets. But we have a deep running lack of Knoweldge concern our Islamic History and Tradition. How else, could we be in this abysimall condition that we are in today. We have a whole host of groups around, all sinceer in the intentions of re-establsihing the Khilafah, but at each others expense. Many Lack Islamic Knowledge and ettiqette, yet the willingly put themselves foward to represent us Muslims. No i Belive that we must always be working to re-establishing our great Islamic History, but we must be trully sincere in doing so, and moreover we must be well versered in Knowledge, and ways of Rasulluh (SAW), the Sahaba's and so on.
  13. This is great news great news walaahi, i hope that this can finally convice us muslims, especially anyone of us who trully belive that we can trully integrate into these countries that we cannot, and that they will never let you practise your deen. Bit by Bit the continously bite away at us and some completely resign themselves to some of the above views It's about time a leader had the courage of his convictions. Like sex, one's [religious] choice should be behind closed doors. If you leave your place of birth, you adopt the laws and ways of your new home. Wayne Colegate, Toronto, Dec. 18 Rember Allah SWT said the Kufar will not be happy with you until you become one of them.
  14. Ferdinand to fight ban Ferdinand is expected to play against Spurs on Sunday Manchester United are planning an appeal against Rio Ferdinand's eight-month ban for missing a drugs test. The defender's ban is due to start on 12 January, and United have until 5 January to lodge their appeal. But Dick Pound, chairman of the World Anti-Doping Agency, warned: "He should be careful about his appeal as his sentence could be increased." United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has insisted Ferdinand will play against Spurs in the Premiership on Sunday. Ferdinand's ban for missing a routine drugs test on 23 September means he will miss Euro 2004, the first month of next season and the opening round of qualifiers for the 2006 World Cup. It's certainly a punishment that will not leave people thinking the FA has gone soft on drugs Lord Coe Analysis: How the FA's disciplinary process must change Realistically, an appeal is likely to be heard in mid-February, and could significantly delay the start of the ban. United director Maurice Watkins described the eight-month ban as "savage and unprecedented". The club is angry that Manchester City defender Christian Negouai was only handed a £2,000 fine when he committed a similar offence last year. Wenger criticises Fifa And Ferguson attacked Fifa president Sepp Blatter and FA chief executive Mark Palios for insisting on a lengthy ban for his star defender. The FA is setting up a think-tank to examine its doping procedure in the wake of the Ferdinand affair. Former Olympic champion Lord Coe will be one of its members. "I will have to look at the whole situation simply to make sensible observation about the way the FA conducts its doping tests in the future," he said. He added that Ferdinand deserved to receive his ban. "It is a punishment that, on balance, is proportionate and it's certainly a punishment that will not leave people thinking the FA has gone soft on drugs." England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson, who submitted a character reference for Ferdinand at Bolton's Reebok Stadium on Friday, will have to start preparing for life without his most influential player at last summer's World Cup finals. England keeper David James, writing in The Times newspaper, said: "We saw from the last World Cup that no side can afford to lose its key squad members and, assuming that he does not overturn the decision, Rio's absence will be regarded as a big blow," Despite Ferdinand's testing week, he is expected to play against Spurs at White Hart Lane on Sunday. I can't see an appeal even getting it reduced less than 6 months - that's still all our season From Bishop Blaize "He has a good temperament. It hasn't been an easy time for him but I am banking on that temperament helping him on Sunday," Ferguson said. "Rio knows that when he comes here he is in a good environment and protective situation." But he added he was concerned at the toll the affair had taken on the centre-half. "In terms of handling football matches, Rio has been as laid back as he appears to be but, like every other human being, he is not unbreakable."

  19. <<<<<<<<<<<<Nigeria's fatal anti-bullet test>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> In Africa the belief in witchcraft and charms is rife A traditional healer in Nigeria has died after an anti-bullet charm he prepared failed a potency test. The healer, Ashi Terfa, was allegedly shot dead by a client in Benue state, during trials for his product. The herbalist reportedly tied the charm round his neck and asked his client to shoot him to test its efficacy. The client, Umaa Akor, has been charged with homicide since the herbalist allegedly asked to be shot at, according to police spokesman Bode Fakeye. AFP news agency reports that the traditional healer's skull was shattered after he insisted that a gun be fired at him. Mr Akor had reportedly sought "insurance" against bullets from the traditional healer. Belief in witchcraft and charms thrives in Africa. Traditional healers are widely consulted for "cures" of various ailments and magical powers to protect their clients from a wide range of misfortunes.
  20. lol yeah i guess ur youth team (that the thief) has assembled from the four corners of the earth pefromed well for 2 games, good luck . Roma's Future has arrived, we have a poor squad compared to the likes of inter Juve and Milan so we have blooded our great youngsters with spectular results. Now we have Mancini (23 yrs) Cassano (21) Pellizoli (21) De Rossi (20) not to mention De' Agsotino (rember where u first heard the name) all regular first team members not tomention Full Internationals. And we,like your selfs have a few more out on loan. I like to see talent come through so lets see if Roma's Young Guns cant come against your players next year that would be great.
  21. I agree rokko BTW: Rossoneri rage at Awards snub Wednesday 17 December, 2003 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Carlo Ancelotti and Gennaro Gattuso have bitterly criticised the lack of Milan players up for the Balon d’Or and FIFA Award this season. “I wonder whether we won the Champions’ League or whether it was all a dream,” sniped Ancelotti after not a single Rossoneri star was nominated for the FIFA World Player of the Year award. “I think I will go to the trophy room at our club headquarters and check whether the Cup is there or not. I want to be sure.” Milan were crowned the Champions of Europe and lifted the Coppa Italia, but despite doing the Double they were largely ignored in the votes for top players of 2003. Zinedine Zidane was a controversial choice for the FIFA Award, beating Thierry Henry and Ronaldo, while the highest placed Milan star was Paolo Maldini in ninth. It now seems almost certain that Juve’s Pavel Nedved – who did not feature in the Old Trafford Final due to a ban – will be handed the prestigious Balon d’Or. “I don’t believe in these awards any more,” added Gennaro Gattuso. “I have no problem with the French voting system, but in my view the best player very rarely wins. The victory goes to the man with the biggest sponsors.”
