Yes, crying with laughter, this place wouldn't be the same without the Somalilanders, especially Oodweyne, the ring leader. You guys are in your own little world where nothing goes wrong, tha's why your news is always good in your enclave and all the bad news is in other places!! You are at like at another level of reality! I mean almost 24,000 posts!!! You're a propaganda machine! -

Somaliland is not Somalia LOOOOOOL, Chinaland is not China, Americaland is not America, like bangladesh calling themselves pakistaniland or any Arab country calling themselves Arabland. Even though the whole region has arabs, one country can't call themselves Arabland!!! That's why Somaliland is a joke and is not taken seriously by any country! THE NAME MAKES NO SENSE. -

That's why they are giving over 250 mil+ to the federal government of Somalia, Australia just offered more. They won't give an ounce in recognition to your tribal enclave our direct contact. Piracy definitely hurts Puntland a lot, but it strengthens, President Sharif. He is given full presidential treatment, even though he has so much trouble right now and controls very little. All this piracy pumps more money to his government and other aid. Before when it was all about terrorists, Somaliland would display a bunch of guys tied up with rope and say we are catching them. Now they are doing the same with pirates, even though they have no airforce and a few slow boats. Like, I said the German man that is in Somaliland fixing his boat said it best!!! Scroll up! -

So if I post a Puntland website bashing your enclave, how credible is that? Here you are posting, a somaliland website and trying to hide the source. Give me a break!!!! -

Beberanews.com Why are you hiding the link? The german man who is in Somaliland fixing his boat put it best when he spoke about the Security servies there, when he said: little belief in the effectiveness of the coastguards. 'They put on a Mickey Mouse show,' he said, dismissing them with a wave of the hand. 'They will never catch a thing.' We should write our own articles and make up stories to. -
The Shahada is on one of them!!!

I agree, I think we should have done this a long time ago. You have a generation being raised in Puntland that only hear about the south from negative news on the internet, other media outlets and the older generation. I believe the path Puntland is taking will end up paying off for the people in the long run. The Puntland government must get behind this.

Guns and intervention have failed; let Somalis talk to each other
Thankful replied to Jacaylbaro's topic in Politics
Somalis in Somalia and elsewhere are my brothers and sisters .... we share a blood. I feel their pain sxb regardless of your cuqdad. But when I ask you when you will have your elections, which always seem to get pushed back, you tell me that it is an internal problem and none of my business. I feel the same way for you guys in your enclave as you do for us (brothers and sisters)!! Do you think the elections in september will go along or will it be pushed back and why doesn't Riyaale do some sort of power sharing until then? -
Riyaale needs an appointment with a barber and taught how to tie a tie. You show anyone this picture and ask them who they though was a someone impersonating a president and they'd pick the other guy and NOT Riyaale, I bet.
-
If you notice other "presidents" their desks are virtually empty, not full of junk like Riyaale and you don't hold meetings right in front of it, that is what conference rooms are for. But I have to admit I do like that he has his name written in front of his desk, just incase the people visiting him forgets his name and why they are there.
-
Impressive office, these are the pics we need to see, rather then the constant news about conflict. I've had the oppurtunity of meeting the Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid and he's a very honorable man. I hope I get the chance of meeting President Sharif. A true inspiration.

Somaliland Political Parties Sign Agreement on Elections
Thankful replied to Jacaylbaro's topic in Politics
I'm just fascinated by this form of democracy. The man was voted in through the ballot and when his term expired somehow there were problems with the process that got him into the position in the first place, I wish was a leader of a place like that. His not a dictator, or royalty but something new. Just like all world politics I pay attention to it and have an opinion, whether it be the middle east, south america or anywhere else. Surely I can comment on you guys since your right next to us? -

Somaliland.org Sadly,We Would Never Elect A Man Of Such Integrity And Straight Forward.!! May 24th, 2009 Goto comments Leave a comment Many of the leaders in our society are guided by unhealthy intentions. Instead of seeking to serve the people and heal our nation’s ills, their actions and decisions are primarily motivated by their desire for power. Many of the people running our country are run by their addictions to approval, power and control. Unfortunately, few truly healthy individuals want to submit themselves to the necessary abuses inherent to our political races - the verbal abuse both given and received, the huge amounts of money spent, the integrity sacrificed through the concessions, lies and manipulations offered in order to win. Our system of electing our officials is so corrupt that there is little possibility of attracting a person with a strong, personally responsible, loving inner adult self. This is not to say that none of our elected representatives are honest and caring. Except Ucid party. Some are certainly motivated by positive intentions but, unfortunately, they constitute a minority. There is no training required in personal responsibility to run for office. Our leaders are not required to heal their dysfunctional aspects in order to become honest and trustworthy people. The prerequisites for political positions mostly include having enough money, enough powerful people behind the scenes, being male, and being white. Our political arena is designed to attract wounded people who need approval and power in order to feel worthy and validated. Obviously, such a person, with little or no internally derived sense of self-worth and integrity, is very susceptible to corruption. “Power corrupts and absolute.” Power corrupts when a person is motivated by his or her desire for power over others, and few people have accomplished enough inner healing to transcend the desire for control over others. A healthy person in office who is more concerned with serving the people than with getting re-elected could accomplish a great deal. however, is a man of heart, and rather than allowing himself to be controlled he sets about making necessary changes . We need sameone even takes responsibility for the corruption.of course. Sadly,we would never elect a man of such integrity a straight forward, honest, caring, and financially middle-class man.Our election processbad habit does not allow for this. Revamping our election process would give people like middle-class an opportunity to run for office. We desperately need people who care more for the common good than for their own popularity. We need brilliant, creative, honest and caring people to lead our country, but this will never happen with our present election system. We have incredible talent in this great country of ours, talent that could eliminate hunger and homelessness, and heal the internal wounds that create health problems, drug abuse, racism, violence and crime. But this talent is rarely tapped because running our country has been based on the earthly values of greed and power over others rather than the spiritual values of honesty, compassion and caring. Unfortunately, neither our government nor most big businesses are based on the spiritual principles of compassion and caring about the common good. I have no doubt that if our government was based on spiritual principles we would not have the hunger, homelessness, crime, health problems, and drug abuse that are endemic to our modern society. Somaliland nation, a nation that must learn from what it endured in the past.A nation that must review its bloody racial history and not repeat the same mistakes. A nation that must vet incompetence when electing leaders of high office.. I sincerely hope that Somaliland people will recuperate and survive the immense moral and emotional damage that has been inflicted upon it over the last 40 years. Amiin Dahir Columbus.Oh -

Wow, that's amazing how you can just push election back so many times and just keep adding months and months. I think this is a new form of democracy! Anywhere, else they would start some sort of power-sharing agreement after a presidents terms expired, then again I guess this is what happens when your not a real country. -
Evidence mounts of Puntland involvement in the Piracy
Thankful replied to Recovering-Romantics's topic in Politics
what should or could have the Cadde administration done to quell piracy. From what i've seen President Faroole and the Former president Cadde definitely are against Piracy and have said many times to stop paying ransom. If they could stop it, they would have. I made several trips back to Puntland and one thing I noticed is that people like to solve their issue among themselves. They don't react kindly to others coming in. An example is the garoweonline article I showed you concerning the incident when the parliament was taken over. Even though the men were armed and were committing a crime, they were upset that the presidential guards who are very close the parliament building intervened. They wanted Garowes local police to intervene. If a murder (which is rare) is committed, usually elders and the families are involved and sometimes exact the punishment. To answer your question, I am not sure their is much that could have been done if such high ransoms were being paid, it was very complicated. I think the former and present administrations understood their capabilities and with threats on both borders, suicide bombings and targeted killings, half the security forces in mogadishu and so much financial resources going to that cause they didn't have the means to fight back, especially without local support it would have been bloody and costly and in the end everyone would lose. Plus every month a new candidate was landing and everyone was preparing for the elections, their priorities were somewhere else. The former admin did free two ships by force. However most ship owners that are paying ransoms have made it clear they don't want Puntland forces to us any force. So I can honestly say, I'm not sure what they could have done. Piracy is something that involves many different players and in my opinion it can only defeated with a coordinated effort and support of everyone, but division and pointing fingers won't get you us anywhere because the government can't do it alone. -

I can see you are trying to connect him and his father in this pirate business and that is fine with me. I support president Faroole and even though I am suspicious of his son Mohamed, I know the President is a very intelligent man. He spoke of unity and said he'd make Gen. Cade an advisor and that neither his nor the previous admin were involved with Piracy. He is a very intelligent person and I'll give you my opinion on his term 4 years from now. It is only some of those around him, i.e YOU and his sons through garoweonline who find excuses, I know he has nothing but praise for the previous admin and wouldn't go around blaming any of his problems on them. If you want to be critical of the former admin on piracy that's ok, but you shouldn't stay silent on the piracy issue with the current. -

Gheelle. T, Like I said you can have your opinion with on Gen. Cade. But no matter what, you know and I know you are silent and refuse to answer why Mohamed Abdirahman Faroole the presidents son is able to make phone calls to is connections and arrange a meeting with one of the most well-known and successful pirate leaders so a western journalist can interview him. This isn't a Somali site writing this but the times.UK that said it. It clear said that the presidents son wanted the meeting to take place outside of Garowe so he wouldn't be seen in public with pirates. THIS IS MY WHOLE POINT, YOU WANT TO BASH THE FORMER ADMIN, BUT WHEN NEWS LIKE THIS COMES OUT YOU TURN A BLIND EYE. You know no matter what you can not justify his actions and they are extremely incriminating. Can you imagine lets say the President of Mexico's son taking a foreign reporter to meet a drug leader and act as an interpreter? What do you have to say about what he did? You say piracy was inherited by the previous admin, can you comment on this? Eyl is the most prospers base in all of Somalia, Human Trafficking and everything occurs everywhere on the coast, people are told meet here and we will depart, it's impossible to stop, the U.S can't stop people coming into their country and they have a smaller border with Mexico then are huge coast, there is no way we can stop people leaving. We need to improve the quality of life so people won't take the journey. I agree Piracy involves Somalis from every corner and attacks have occurred mostly in the Gulf of Aden. However, the majority of ships are docked at the Coast of Eyl and that town is the headquarters. That is why the Pirate meeting and the 200 pirates who renounced the crime held the meeting in Eyl it's not taking place anywhere else, because this is the Pirates base and a SAFE haven. Believe me many people are poor in Puntland just like the rest of Africa and piracy is a big money business but you still don't see dozens of bases popping up all over. My point in all this is that you cannot blame any Admin if the inhabitants of a province allow Pirates to set up a base in their land. If they are willing to give them sanctuary then they hold the responsibility. I'm making the assumption Cadde admin never did that since I never heard Cadde engaging the elders, politicians, and religious figures from that region? I am not sure exactly what took place behind closed doors, in 2008 when their was the spike in piracy attack, it was also an election year so many people were occupied with other priorities. But I can not say for certain. I'll say this one last time, I am not against reer Nugaal or saying everyone their is responsible for piracy. But if you started pointing fingers at who is responsible for piracy, and in my opinion those that are enabling them to set up a base must be looked at. But you are not, you are just blaming the previous admin! -
No he's not, his term has expired. What happened the last time he went to lascaanod?

Evidence mounts of Puntland involvement in the Piracy
Thankful replied to Recovering-Romantics's topic in Politics
When Puntland was formed, their were elders and influential leaders brought from every corner of the state that agreed to try and work together under an administration made up of members of each province who would elect a leader and government. Each province agreed to take care of it's own security and work together with each other. That meant supplying soldiers in times of emergencies and sharing resources. Although the government would help distribute everything and organize different agencies, i.e taxes at the port and what not, it was the responsible of every tribe to ensure that they kept their end of the bargin. It is no secret that the parliament is made up of a certain number of individuals from each tribe who would choose a leader and that the government that was formed would make sure the ministers had equal representation of tribes. After the civil war every tribe broke up and acquired a large amount of weapons to defend their lands. Puntland was formed to bring organization to the chaos that ensued. So unlike other governments in the world, the weapons that the government has are the exact same as those that the tribes have. Technicals, PKM's, RPGS and so on. The government doesn't have fighter jets or other sophisticated weapons. So it must depend on help to protect the state from the different tribes and their forces. There's an understand that each province through elders, religious leaders and other respected people would ensure they would take care of their area's and send Representatives to work with the government i.e ministers, parliamentarians. For instance when the war in 2006 came to the gates of Gaalkayo, every tribe contributed a certain amount of fighters and weapons to the cause. This is why right now in Eyl, elders of that area are taking part in the discussions. Also if you remember there was a dispute in Bari between two tribes, 2 or 3 months ago over land. It had nothing to do with the government and even though many people died, the two groups settled the issue through negotiation between them selves with help from elders, the government didn't swoop in and make a bunch of arrests. So my point in all this is that the provinces and those that inhabit it have an understanding that they will work with the government. Because at the end of the day they are the ones that control their land and if they are allowing pirates to set up base in their province they are not holding up to their end of the agreement they signed in 1998. President Faroole attack on Parliament 2006 This is Garoweonlines interpretation of the incident, which is run by President Farooles son. Attack-Garoweonline Doesn’t Garoe have a police force responsible for security? Indeed, the Puntland capital has its own police force, which is capable of handling all security threats. Then, one must ask the impending question: What was the reason for sending in the presidential guard instead of the police force? Furthermore, why was the administration so quick to use guns instead of diplomacy? The bloody incident in the central Garoe exposed a weak administration and its lack of proper procedural protocol. When armed militiamen captured Parliament House, it was the duty of the police to engage the militias, not for the presidential guard to interfere. The militiamen, while armed, neither shot nor killed anyone but were there to express their grievance against the injustice incurred upon “some” ministers, while others are given the green light. Puntland prides itself as a region where law and order reign supreme; yet, the president’s personal security forces were quick to break the law. Because of poor judgement on the part of the administration, several families lost their loved ones. Also, the people of Garoe have guns and could’ve responded violently against the presidential guard’s murderous tactics. But, as with the whole of Puntland, the mediation and wisdom of the Issims, or traditional elders, was given priority. As the Issims of Nugal region calmed the tense and potentially volatile situation in the Capital, the president called in more heavily-armed reinforcements to encamp himself in a “Green Zone” not unlike the American one in Baghdad! Why did the president reinforce his personal security forces if he’s not guilty of anything? What does he have to fear today that he didn’t have to fear the day before the bloody gun battle in Garoe? Just like Garoweonline said, everyone has weapons and can take on the government. A base can't be set up in far off Eyl, Nugaal and then say oh it's the governments fault it is happening. THE GOVERNMENT DOESN'T NOT CONTROL EVERY INCH AND CAN NOT FUNCTION WITHOUT THE HELP OF THE INHABITANTS OF EACH PROVINCE. It is the responsiblity of each province to protect their land. In Bari: Bari residence fight It's not the government but local fishermen in the area as this article show's". Already the militia has arrested 12 pirates in two boats and handed them over to the local authorities in the northern Somali region of Puntland. Bari Fight - BBC And here it is "Regional leaders" Regional leaders at Alula and Bargaal in Somalia's northern Puntland region told the BBC they have put together a militia of fishermen to catch pirates. As you see it is the responsibilty of the locals to deal with the Piracy issue and in the case of Nugaal - the Issims. Something that they are not doing. -

I know, if you want to bash the former admin you have every right to, but piracy is a global issue, the biggest one Puntland has faced. Our Public image has been hurt, but the fact is that it isn't the whole state that allows these criminals to set up a base. It was easy to point fingers at the former admin for everything it did, but what about now? -

Although there is no universal set of rules, a UN report based on information gathered from pirates based in the north-eastern village of Eyl, reveals some interesting information about how the ransom spoils are divided: • Ground militia (armed groups who control the territory where the pirates are based) - 10% • Local community (elders and local officials) - 10% Where's Mr. Ghelle T?? He accuses me of attacking a province of Nugaal when I am just taking evidence from independant sources, Ground militia ( armed groups who control the territory where the pirates are based) - 10%." I am not basing my facts on Somali sites run by the opposition. I am just saying Piracy is flourishing in one spot. However Reer Eyl and it's elders have started discussing the problems Piracy is bringing to the state and have agreed to follow all the other provinces in the state and not allow these guys to set up a base. 200 pirates have renounced piracy, which is a start. This is coming from someone who claims to live in a country no one recognizes and their for has no capital. I never thought i'd see the day a Northerwest Somali would tell me i have no capital. Aw-Muuse, I apologize for what route this thread took, i'll bring it back on course. I saw these buildings and a recommend all to see it with their own eyes, Bosasso, is really growing.
