  1. TELEGRAPH.CO.UK The US secretary of state promised increased military support and other aid on Thursday after she met Somalia's president, Sheikh Sharif, during her visit to Kenya. To go infront of millions and make this promise show's that in the most powerful nation in the worlds eyes Somalia is not dead. Which was the question asked in this thread, the hand shaking the promises from the U.S proves Somalia is much alive. It is when no one will even meet with you, or at the very least invite you to meetings as a seperate entity that show's when Someone is dead. If no one recognizes you're existence like Riyaale's enclave that is when you are dead. Riyaale couldn't even get one little handshake in his trip to Kuwait and gets invited with the rest of Somalia to the U.S meetings. However in 6 months President Sharif meets with the U.S Secretary of State and many other heads of state. You tell me who's dead or alive.
  2. Are you normal? That isn't some women it is - "the United States Secretary of State is the head of the United States Department of State. The office of the Secretary of State is one of the most high-profile positions in U.S. government." It's a huge accomplishment! No one in the U.S government will even invite NW Somalia's admin to any meetings.
  3. Thankfulsp what has sh dalxiis don but traveling around the world begging for money and international troops oo yeah his last victory was shaking hands with Hillary Clinton. Woow I am impressed Come on the man that started this thread asked a question. I answered that if people acknowledge your existence and the secretary of state of the most powerful nation in the world meets with you, then you must be a alive. Now the question must be asked what about war criminal Riyaale and his admin? Who gives them nice welcomings?
  4. Is Somalia dead? I think this answers the question. Sharif in 6 months has done more internationally then the NW Somali admin has in 18 years!
  5. Gaalkacyu is by far the most tense and weaponized cities I saw in Puntland. It was the only place I saw 6 or 7 guys in civilians clothing caring guys. From what I have read during colonial times and Siad Barres era, the city was tough to control. It has seen some of the heaviest fighting during the civil war and you have two different tribes sharing it. One side is developed and the other is not. People on both sides are certain they'll be another fight sooner or later. This city has not be neglected and has actually benefited the most during Puntlands existence. If anything they have had so much with ever admin except this one. From Presidency, Vice Presidency or Finance minister (the three highest positions). It can be said that there is bitterness towards Faroole admin. But the fact of the matter remains, this is a city that is on the front lines that has seen the bloodiest fighting in Puntland, was taken over by the USC for a brief time and was threated by the ICU in past, people their are tough and are in a constant state of readiness to defend.

  7. He's staying at the Taar city hotel which is located outside of the city passed the "control". There's is a huge military force protecting him. With a minister killed, I guess he feels that he needs to take extra precautions. When he made his first trip to Gaalkayo in Febuary he stayed inside the city. His meeting with officials and elders which is good. Then men must face justice.
  8. General Duke ignore this guy Rudy, he's incoherent. The men must face justice quickly the President can't do it alone, the leadership of Gaalkayo must help him.
  9. The killers must be caught and executed. It's easier said then done i'll admit; but if the men are not turned in, the chances of more violence will be very high. President Faroole must stay in Gaalkayo for sometime and mediate between the different groups. To attack and kill a minister like this in broad daylight has change the State.

  11. Hmmm, you don't sound too sincere. If this was the south it would be news for day, the shock Puntland is in right now is proof of the peace that has taken a hit.
  12. Che, are you hoping for a fight? Don't you realize Puntland is the safest place in Somalia, that still wants to be part of the nation? No where else even comes close.
  13. In the Puntlands history never has a minister been killed. There is a reason why this man didn't have any body guards, people had a respect for the Ministers. When I was there, I remember seeing the former finance minister Gaagaab would walk with one guard (a guard who looked like one of the most serious and angry looking guys). This was in Garowe and you'd think someone who is the finance minister would need more. I saw him at the airport and in the city. Before Ministers either had no guards or 1. The more and more I look at it, this doesn't have to do with tribe. People have disputes and people lose their lives, but the revenge has never been directed at a minister or the government. The question must be asked here and with the murder in Kakaar, why are government officals and now minister being killed? this is something I found online (not the best example), but the guard in the back was the only person that use to travel with him. This was the finance minister, who had lies spread against him that he had stolen millions of dollars, yet he still didn't need to be protected with tons of security.
  14. Even Garoweonline knows this is not some tribal fighting or a daily occurrence. It can't be diminished in anyway. Yes there has been attacks and revenge killings. But to specifically target a government minister is unheard of in our history. This act was a direct message to the government. It was an attack on the state. Things are very serious right now. Garoweonline Press Releases Somalia: Puntland Information Minister Killing 6 Aug 6, 2009 - 4:14:40 AM PRESS RELEASE Today, Wednesday, August 5, 2009, at 12:30pm the Puntland Minister for Information, Telecommunication, Tradition and Culture, Mr. Warsame Abdi Shirwa, was shot in an organized killing in Galkayo, the provincial capital of Mudug. May Allah have mercy on his soul, the Minister was part of a large delegation representing Puntland government branches who have been in Mudug Region for one month on issues relating to the region's security. As is well known, Mudug Region shares a border with the Central Regions in Somalia and Somali Regional State in Ethiopia and Galkayo has seen organized killings in the past targeting society's worthy individuals including traditional elders, intellectuals, businesspeople and government officials. The Puntland Council of Ministers held an emergency meeting this afternoon and recognized the killing as politically motivated, despite whoever was used to committ the crime, and the intention was to hurt the security, stability and reputation of Puntland. An investigation is underway to arrest whoever was behind this brutal killing and to bring them to justice. The Council of Ministers sends condolences to the family, relatives and generally the people of Somalia and particularly the people of Puntland, who lost a Minister. We pray to Allah that He admit him to Janatul Firdowsa. May Allah give the rest of us patience and faith. Amin. Amin. Amin. Office of the President Puntland State, Somalia E-mail: plpresidencyg@hotmai l.com Tel: +252 90 790999/794030
  15. I don't think it was suicide. I did hear that he was summoned by the president and had a meeting about the lack of security in a number of area's. Allah u naxaristo.
  16. I hate saying this without confirming it, but I am hearing it was a suicide.

  18. Che, If heads there quickly it will be a huge sign. He will be hailed as a hero. He's doing good in the city of Garowe, but obviously if revenge killers chose one of his minister. There's a clear lack of respect for his admin in Gaalkayo.
  19. LooooooooL@capital moved to Galkacayo..That's reactionary Do you realize that the people have lived without an effective government for so long, you have a generation that think in ways you can't imagine. President Faroole is starting to be viewed in many places as the president of Garowe, for one reason, he rarely ever leaves that city. Gaalkayo is the most strategically important city in Puntland, if not Somalia. Yet President Faroole has spent more time in Minnesota then he has in the second biggest city in Puntland, Gaalkayo. There has been revenge killings in Puntland's history, but never ever on a Minister. People have always shown a respect for the government during the worst of times (this is a man the President elected). Killing a government official is something new and is a direct result of the neglect places outside of Garowe have seen. This isn't some isolated incident or something that will blow over easy. President Faroole needs to go to Gaalkayo immediately, even if he has to bring the whole Puntland Army with him. Gaalkayo is extremely important. Someone told me that during his trip to London, President Faroole spoke of Gaalkayo as if it was part of the south and not part of Puntland. I'm not sure how true this is, but h has definitely spent too much time in Garowe.
  20. I can't believe a Puntland Minister was killed like this. This is probably the biggest single incident in Puntlands history. If they go after government official, they'll go after anyone. I'd expect this from elements outside the State but not like this. Gaalkayo has been neglected a lot over the last few months that's why the delegation was sent there, President Faroole is in big trouble if he thinks the state can exist without Gaalkayo. Garowe is the Presidents Strong hold, where is biggest support is. He needs to go to other places and win support. This might sound drastic but the capital should be moved to Gaalkayo. It'll show the people that he cares and will pump money into it's economy. President Faroole is reer Garowe he has their backing. He better take someone attacking one of his minister very very serious.
  21. In Puntland the people are going to blame the Puntland admin and not the local one. President Faroole has spent more time and has done more speeeches in cities like Washington, London and Dubai, then he has in Gaalkayo. No one knows why he rarely leaves Garowe and they don't by the excuse "because it is the capital." People are upset that he flew straight into Garowe after his trip and think that he purposely did it the day before celebrations so he can use it as an excuse. Sending delegation isn't going to work, the President Faroole needs to go to the cities that are in need of help. Whether it be the skirmishes in Bari or this tragic incident. The local city admin can't function without the Presidents direct involvement. People in Puntland think the President is scared to leave Garowe. He needs to show them he's not.
  22. Just read this now, Horseednet Somalia: Puntland Minister Killed in Galkaio August 5, 2009 · Comments (0) Puntland Minister of Information Warsame Abdi Shirwa By: Mohamed Aydarus Horseed Media On Wednesday, the minister of information of Puntland State, Warsame Abdi Shirwa, was shot dead by armed men in Galkaio, the second largest city of Puntland State of Somalia. Eyewitness on the scene told Horseed Media, that Mr.Shirwa was shot in his car by four armed men in military uniform. “….two armed men shot him several times….while two others gunmen blocked the road,…the minister was in his car, near the former Darvish base in central Galkaio …“ said, one of the eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity, because of security reasons. It is the first such assassination of a Puntland minister, since the establishment of Puntland State of Somalia, in 1998. The killing of the information Minister comes just days after, the autonomous region of Puntland state (Northeast of Somalia), celebrated the 11th anniversary of the creation of the State, on the 1st of August. Over the past few weeks, a high level delegation from Puntland government was in Galkaio, the capital of Mudug region, to discuss security and administrative issues in the region. Mr.Warsame Shirwac, was part of the delegation of Ministers, MPs and security officials elected from the region, who were on a mission to restore and strengthen, the provincial and district administrations in Mudug region, which is plagued by corruption and insecurity. The government officials were also trying to end the tribal conflict in the region. On 25th of July, one person was killed at a checkpoint north of Galkaio, when armed men from the late minister’s tribe, opened fire on a convoy of vehicles carrying, the regional officials led by Abdinur Mohamed Gesey, the governor of Mudug region. 23. Allah u naxariisto, I heard this was in retaliation for a killing that happened last week. Sometimes the victim had absolutely nothing to do with it. He(Info Minister) was sent with a government delegation to try in calm the city that has been out of control for the last few months. I can't remember a Puntland minister being assasinated like this. I'll be honest with you, the victims "family" will be furious. They'll be looking for revenge from someone of the killers "family" and it will be someone big. As sad as this sounds, I don't think this is over, unless the killers are found quick and face justice. If not they'll be retaliation.
  24. No one wants to step into the any of those places. That would only be seen as an act of aggression. It would play right into the secessionist hands. Meeting Hillary Clinton, world presidents, being given full presidential welcomes is the way to fight for the union. When Riyaale can't even get welcomed in Kuwait, when the recent meetings in Washington refused to invite the NW Somali admin as a seperate entity or last year when Riyaale went to Washington and the state department made it clear that they weren't recongizing or on the verge of recognizing his state. This is exactly why the blue flags came out in Boorama, they know that the last 18 years have gotten them nowhere, not even one single country will recognize them. Then they look at Mogadishu and see they are the only government that holds an international standing. The Somali republic may be in disarray, but the president of the republic just met with the U.S Secretary of State today! In the 6 or more months President Sharif has be the leader, he has accomplish more internationally then the NW Somali Admin has in 18 years! How long has Riyaale been leader? Show me the pics he has with world leaders. After that search Sharif and see how many he has met in 6 months or so. The facade is over, the people realize recognition has seen no progress!
  25. I completely agree! I'm just saying it is comprehensible that Somalis in other parts of the nation still consider the NW part of Somalia! There are even people in the NW that feel the same way as the pictures prove! So don't seem suprised at "che, KK and Duke" for stating the obvious.
